Compared to other transmigration novels I have read, this is kinda dark since the FL has to always to be edge of the "Male Leads" and their favorability of her to avoid dying. Even then, its not all roses for her. Some Male leads piss you off so bad that you just wish the FL would forget about their favorability towards her and just talk back to them. And guess what. She ACTUALLY does! When she has reached her limits, she doesn't care what they think and speaks the bitter... more>> truth which is SUPER SATISFYING!!!!

I read the manhwa so started reading the novel at around chapter 60. After getting through the main story and reading til the end of it, I had a hard time getting in to the side story. It felt boring Sooooo I skipped practically 40 chapters or so and went straight to the last chapter. <<less

Sooo I mtled this novel before all the translation came out and is I saw some reviews from people who actually didn't get at the end Of the story.

Warning this can have a bit of spoilers

First: The MC personality, well she was a situation where she was abused because of her family. Before the game thing she tried to talk with her brothers and father but it didn't work out (just imagine trying to reach someone to ask for help and all of your "new" family being hostile to you... more>> and the father don't listen properly and thinks its just a child complain) so yeah she has a trauma that wasn't treated. When she entered in the game world her trauma is brought back so yeah thats way she acts the was she do... Because it was the only way that worked for her in her real world (also the original person of the body was also traumatized by her family that lead her to act unruly, selfish and destructive in a way, and all this made her opinions don't being truly trusted by her father and brothers. So yeah in this particularly case TALKING WONT WORK).

Second: well from beginning until close the end she truly believes that this is a game, she doesn't think this is a real world because come on, she couldn't act freely when she arrived or talk what she wanted until she unlocked the special feature with the first duke encounter scene. Also she can see the affection number above the targets head... Also she can win rewards after competing some quests... so yeah its pretty game like and she just wanna escape this sh*t life and go back to her world where she was free. So she obviously think that the targets aren't real people and use them for her own benefit to achieve her goal to go back home.

3- Because of the main point of the history, and the climax reveal, the protagonist is kinda of "cursed" to not be loved by any family members. Again she can't avoid being treated bad and in the end she will know the reason (I confess that the end was a really plot twist and I wasn't expecting this at all).

4- the ML also surprised me. Even after seeing some spoilers I didn't beloved that the two of them would work together, but he is surprisingly fit for her and they work good together.

So I think I can help those who want to read.... at the beginning you guys can't find things like "Oh she should talk with others to try to make them understand" or "oh she is too cunning" or "she should trusts others more", just bear in mind that everything have a reason that is better explained at the end and she is in a huge fight that even her doesn't know about it. I suppose it's my fault for not seeing the tragedy tag and personally not liking tragedy but it didn't do it for me.

If I'm being honest I found most of the characters hard to like apart from Vinter.... maybe that's the authors intention for a grittier novel.

MC is quite clever but manipulative, so to be honest a lot of the relationships were formed by her manipulating them for her own survival. I know a lot of transmigration has this, but what makes other MC's likeable is that they can't help... more>> but be nice, whereas her kindness is usually calculated. Due to this I feel like it's not really a romance novel.... So it should be read by someone who is more interested in plot drama than romance. But I haven't finished the novel so I could be wrong.

Don't really like the final ML, as he's a bit too aggressive for me. All of them are kind of aggressive which is personally a massive turn off. The only two leads who didn't do anything bad to her get the worst endings (from what I can tell). I would continue to read if it was a different final ML but oh well....

wow, the prince is the lost man I'll choose what about the s*ave boy, killing him is too much, and the step brothers of cinnamon rolls are cute tho, theu aren't related by blood, she could end up with one of them..... What about the sorcer, he is pretty handsome too. BUT the prince, arrogant s*upid kid, that's a NO. Guys someone have to write a different /good/ ending for this . & I'd love to play an otome made out of this nouvel, if Otomate do it or Ideafactory.

The webtoon was a bit more tolerable in my opinion, this novel was just tr*sh, too overrated.

The premise was good, an otome game where you play and understand the two sides? Cool. But enter the isekai and it is just your clichéd shoujo story.

It’s great until the real villain shows up. Then the story falls off a cliff. Nothing that happens from that point on makes any sense. The villain clearly knows the MC is her enemy but constantly behaves like a stranger when they’re alone. The MC goes out of her way to escalate and prolong problems for herself. Literally half the people around her including the MC herself could kill the villain instantly but the MC refuses. She even withholds revealing information that the villain already knows that the MC knows.... more>> Everything that happens just makes no sense. <<less

Its so good at the start and its just gradually became repetitive and it was more of a frustating than a boring one.... She, no offense I really love our girl Penelope with all the sad story who build her character I really do love her.... But girl, she didn't change at the end of the main story.... She just like how she is in the beginning of the main story not much different.... Aaaaaaa I cant count how many times I was so frustrated at the thing that could... more>> been much easier turn into shiitiest scenario possible cause of her, her stubborness is not in the right place nor in the right time. At the last 10 chapter of the main story I have to distract my self with other thing cause reding this only make me "crazy" and I don't know until know I can be really pent up with the word crazy because how many times she said it at the end of the main story.

When I tell my brother about how I pent up with this ending part of the story my brother be like "what do you expect of someone who has broken family all her live bullied and being abandoned about, suddenly have such a strong mentality just because she came to video game, I think its make the novel you read more realistic" and because of what my bro said I have a clear mind to read the rest of the main story....

I just hope the epilog story or side story will get better <<less

Penelope is so biased. I cannot understand her and her grudges. She can forgive others who did bad things to her but on the other hand, she couldn't also forgive others for the same thing. Like girl, make up your mind and choose a character you can justify. She's being selective about her decisions and it's not making any sense lol

Well Well Well.... storyline is great it is interesting yet a bit familiar yet unfamiliar story I mean the you can make some guesses if you are experienced reader of transmigrated stories.

The MC is neither a genius nor a s*upid in the sense of being pitifull one who would need someone to protect her ALL OF THE TIME, she do need protection since she has transmigrated into a game so she doesn't know the background type stuff.

She is trying to protect herself while also falling in love with ML (crown... more>> prince Castilo) sorry if the name is wrong because I don't remember his name spelling LOL.

I would highly recommend it. <<less

It seems that other reviewers are correct in that chunks are missing from the translations. So far, I've been able to fill in the blanks because I got up to c92 in the manhwa, but what's gonna happen when I read past that point? Otherwise, interesting story that I wanted to continue from the manhwa

While I'm super interested in this story, I might end up frustrated due to these missing... more>> chunks. Premise is really compelling, but it’s already obvious at this point that huge sections of the story are missing. From one chapter to another you have no idea what is happening. I would stick to the manhwa until there’s another translator (also keep in mind, according to a lot of spoilers I’ve read, Penelope becomes less and less of a sympathetic character the farther you get in the story, so if you’re worried about that, maybe check out some spoilers from low-rated reviews).

This had a really good premise but went bad somewhere in the middle. It was a struggle to read this after the 150+ ch so I just skimmed to get to the end of it. : ( I pretty much agree with MonoJu. I find it hard to believe that the FL was so likeable and I really don't understand the author. *Ugh*

These are the reasons why I was able to finish this:

  • Premise got me hooked. An unwanted adopted child (transmigrated) no longer fighting affection for adopted family.
  • Heart-wrenching scenes with the brothers and their neglect of FL
  • BadA heroine (well, at the start, towards the end wondered what the author was doing to her)
  • Unique system that puts FL in peril
  • Psychotic male leads
  • Fantasy world building
It's a good story, really, it's just that there were some extremes that ticked me off:

  • I wanted Eclise to be the ML where Penelope at least tries to heal him. She effed him up real good. I understand that she thought of everything as a game and used him as a means for survival but had the audacity to feel betrayed over his actions. Tsk! I squirm whenever I read his parts.
  • Derrick bro's ending was so messy. He "betrayed" the FL when he was brainwashed by his og sis. I guess the author wasn't able to differentiate the FL's hate for him with the neglect and this "betrayal".
  • The ML is the crown prince. Well, just rolled my eyes that whenever FL was in distress, the ML came to the rescue. U thought she was supposed to be strong.
  • Honestly, towards the end FL felt more psycho than everyone.

Tldr; melodrama novel full of angst, betrayal, romance and a pinch of hypocrisy. If we're not mentioning her CP, the FL feels like a blackened villain lol

*don't read this bc spoilers all throughout*

I'm so torn over this story because I loved it but there are many things that gave me the ick. I absolutely loved the first half which is basically where the manhwa is up to, I loved Penelope, I loved the premise, I loved the ml. but at one point the fantasy aspect and the fights and magic just became ridiculous. but at the same time this is reincarnation in an otone game so I can get over that. additionally, the translations were nearly... more>> incoherent for a lot of the mid of the novel. so oh well. second, what happened to eclis was absolutely horrid imo and it angered me the whole time bc despite his horrid behavior to her near the end... he was the biggest victim of all. bc hello??? he was a s*ave!! the trauma all of it is unfathomable and it's difficult to read these imperialistic korean light novels without thinking about it in terms of the real life effects of imperialism. he was a victim & penelope took advantage of the immense power she held over him & he knew he was being taken advantage of but he was desperate and in the end, he went literally insane after failing to fulfill his purpose for her. it was heartbreaking to read. However, I think I was able to not have horribly negative feelings towards penelope because she was also in a life-or-death situation so survival is always everyone's first instinct whether they would like to admit it or not. and also in such a situation, rationality can't always be expected. it just left a bitter taste in my mouth bc I always wish for heroines who are from the modern day to be more... aware and enlightened bc they literally studied history and politics? the last factor that gave me the ick was how a lot of these stories like to completely ruin their mls in the side stories. just like how raeliana's ML noah in their side stories became annoyingly obsessive, so did callisto in this. both of those mls were and prob still are my favorite bc of their humor and devotion, but the authors love to ruin it in the side stories :/ overall, because of how much I loved the manhwa and the overall premise and how much I liked penelope & callisto (at least in the start), im still giving this a 4 star but I absolutely understand why other people would give this story a 2-3 star. <<less

Most of the story is around a 4.8 but the ending is lacking (lets not talk about the quality of this translation tho...). The MC might not be a good person but she is fighting for her life, she is really in an abnormal state of mind due to all the sht she has to go through every day, which is understandable. Her powerlessness really makes you feel. The male characters are absolute a s s h o l e s, even the somewhat redeemed ML is just someone she... more>> can feel kinship with as they are both traumatized af. It's rather good, but you have to know a few things, the FL and all the ML's are very gaming like, they really feel like NPC's of a game without any range of development, and you'll soon find out whos the real ML is just because he does have some development and doesn't feels NPCish.

Naturally it's the parent (and family... yay 3 brothers right there as ML's) who torment the FL. Its just so overused that it ain't fun anymore. Isn't there a single author what can make a FL... more>> what isn't always abused by family/parents?

The translation started out very well but it drops down, one of the ML gets his name changed almost every few Chapters, it's a pain. at one point it seems like it was maschine translated and just barely edited after, I hate when I have to spend time to reread parts just to understand them. argh

Nobility ranking are wrong... at one point a Marquess looks down on a Duke rank. Say what?
Its Royalty -> Duke -> Marquess -> Earl and so on

One stat of the game "Fame or Famous" (it changes back and forth very annoying) are counted wrong, and you'll find other discrepancies what just adds to the pile)

There's a few scenes where a ML just pops up out of nowhere without a yota of why and how what makes it feel like it a event of the game and nothing is explained. That sucks it's like the author had no clue how to write it so there plot armor for the win.

There is no real world building, it's all over the place. The value of Gold coins is never explained, but it's all wacky, one can only assume that gold has no value whatsoever in this strange world. (we are talking about 100 Million Gold coins what come and go, emerald mines, diamond mines...) BUT.. then in the SS when buying a mirror at the festival it costs 3 silver and is stated to be exorbitant price, what the what?

From now on, I'll live as quiet as a mouse so you wouldn't care the slightest bit!" - yeah right She says it at the start but then she triggers events with the ML's left and right (id say without a care in the world) knowing that a bad ending is right around the corner. So if you look for a FL what tries to stay away from the ML's and do her own thing - do NOT read this.

One of the MLs.. Eclipse... how she treats him... its awful, she basically gets him and then forgets him anytime, and she wonders why he does what he does?! There's nothing more foolish than a man chasing his hat (love) .

The flashbacks to her own Life youth and torment are weird because they are shoved down our throats out of nowhere. Half the time you don't even understand that it is her real past.
It seems like (I'm not yet done reading as of now) that her real self and the villainess past are basically the same - torment, pain, hurt, no love, close to be a s*ave in both lifes.

If you want to keep a little respect of the ML, do NOT read the SS, I liked him till then, but his a brick in the SS. Undressing her when she sleeps, confinement in her room, just so that she marries him.

At first I when I read the webtoon I was excited. This one a bit different because all the ML hates her. She has to start from the bottom to get to where she is.

Her personality is good at first too. But I have to take one star down when she changed to be MC that I don't really like. Because she's too mean.

Derrick was apologizing over and over again until he kneel down but she's still like that. She can forgive Reynold a bit but she's too vicious with Derrick I feel bad for him. But that doesn't mean I forgive all his action so far. But it just you know do we have to use the rules of "eye for eye"? You don't have to forgive him. Just don't care about him. Just act like you do with Reynold. So this was a bit a let down for me. How she handled Eclise was a bit mean too. It was her fault. And he was brainwashed. She should at least be responsible for him. Not act that vicious towards him like that.

I was hooked on this for the longest time, but towards the end it was a little disappointing. Up to a point, the MC seemed justified... but then all the ML's eyes continued to "shake" and they kept being abused by the MC. In addition, thinking was never the MC's strong suit. Every crisis always conveniently worked out with the help of a ML... her role completely became the Mary Sue of a typical otome game even though the premise was being the cannon fodder. The ending was disgustingly familiar.

Wanted... more>> to give 3.5 stars, rounded to 4 stars, because I truly enjoyed the first 2/3 of the story. <<less

Just had to read the novel because I became terribly impatient with the manhwa.

Wow, what a whirlwind.

A LOT happened in this novel. Not just the tragedies of being forcefully trapped in a dating-sim world, sentenced to hard-mode & dying every single time... but also dealing with family that has terrible methods of communication & rather worse coping skills. MC’s just trying to survive (literally) but she’s also so done with putting up with BS. I like the premise, but I felt the execution could be better. The plot was great... more>> enough to keep me on my toes, but of course its main gravitational pull goes by the name of Callisto. I love that psycho. Wouldn’t reread the novel again, but I’m still keeping tabs on the manhwa until the day it completes. <<less

After wasting almost 24 hours nonstop, I've decided to drop this as I couldn't handle Penelope's hypocrisy anymore, she literally demanded heart, sincerity and understanding from others whilst she herself treating them like a soulless NPC. And she f*cked up Eckles through and through smh, what a waste of my precious 24h. Got reminded again about why I should take 1-star reviews seriously. God, I feel Callisto is wasted on her...
