I’ve reincarnated as the reverse harem game’s villainess, the one and only adopted daughter of the ducal Eckart family.

But the difficulty just has to be the worst!

Everything I do will only lead me to death.

I must be paired with one of the main male characters from the heroine’s harem before the ‘real daughter’ of the duke family appears!

Two older brothers who always pick a fight with me on every little thing.

The insane crown prince whose route will always lead to my death.

‘I only see the heroine and no one else’s wizard, and also her loyal s*ave knight, too!

‘First, let’s take some of them which I see no hope in, out of the list!’

“I didn’t know my place up until now. From now on, I’ll live as quiet as a mouse so you wouldn’t care the slightest bit!

But why do their interests in me keep on rising every time I draw the line?!

My favorite novel so far, I fell in love with Penelope and Callisto. It was so different from another typical female/male lead.

Totally recomended!

Was unsure whether to give this a 3 or 4 but decided to go with a 3 as it had issues that bothered me a lot... But it's somewhere around 3.5 for me.

The story itself has a nice unique spin to the common villainess story trope. Not everything is original but it's enough to keep you interested throughout the long story for the most part. Although I must admit that I personally felt it was somewhat dragged for the last 1/4 of the entire story... more>> at least.

I am also not a fan of Penelope. While I get that she was mistreated, she is quick to blame those around her for everything and doesn't seem capable of compromise. Forgiveness is either denied or given on a whim it seems. Some characters are eventually redeemed and others she casts aside brutally. I didn't like that.

She can also be quite abusive and manipulative herself, which I loathe because it seems like she feels entitled to act that way.

I would have preferred her to be a little more... forgiving? That may be the wrong word but... She has also been at fault a lot, be that either in her original life, the original "real" Penelope, or herself once she became Penelope.

Other people's actions are also not as black and white as one would like them to be. There's no simple answers in these relationships. I felt disappointed that some characters were punished so harshly and basically exiled from her life. Call me a hopeless dreamer but I actually like stories of forgiveness. God knows each of these characters went through enough hurt and pain to deserve it, even if they behaved like twisted psychopaths at some point. Everyone in this story behaves crazy to a certain degree after all... <<less

I really love this novel. Although MC is so much invested in favorability percent that it gets annoying and all with second thought her fillings are understandable.
Spoiler

Especially after finishing hard mode, she is just too broken to think straight.

and I don't agree with "How she handled Eclise was a bit mean too. It was her fault."
If Eclise knew he wasn't being loved so he must have stick to his royalty so he could at least show how grateful he is to his master. Penny wanted him to fall in love but she always told him that she only needed his royalty. Falling in love was his own choice.

I'm still in the middle of reading but hot dang my heart!!! It hurts!!!

this is probably the best reincarnation/transmigration novel I've laid my eyes on. Literal blessing also cursed because this writer knows how to clutch your heart and twist it into smithereens big oof it had me up at 4am reading my nth chapter in a few hours. Made me cry a month's worth of late night tears ;w;

Might get spoilery from here on. Anyway, kyochan basically said what I wanted to say about this novel!!!!

Spoiler

MC is flawed and scarred but she's so strong and cool-headed that I might just want to marry her, but I'll leave that to best boy ML ;w;) he treats her as she is and so well at that!!!! I'm so happy he exists!!!!

MC's life before the transmigration was tragic enough and after the transmigration, I can understand how steely she became. Living in hell once is terrible, but twice?? Now you've got to conquer this realm and become queen. My heart hurts every time MC has to deal with the bs from the Eggheads Eckharts and everyone else. I'm glad she didn't become complacent and too trusting like most MCs in novels like these. She's real fresh and smart though all I want to do is keep her warm and safe in my pocket ;v;

The plot for this novel is so well-developed and thrilling that the one braincell squatting in my head is constantly getting whiplash. I enjoyed and hurt reading this thoroughly. I'm still on Chapter 164 but I had to take a break from all the hurt and read the end + side story/extras. The HE and soft side story eased most of my grievances with the angsty plot (cry) I haven't finished all of it yet but they're definitely lighter than the main story omg. Callisto is best boy!!! I love you for loving Penny!!!!!!!!

I'm glad she more or less sorted out her OG family in the last extra. Turns out, they're just like the Eggheads! "Awkward to death" folks who regret everything the moment things finally go too far. I'm glad she pulled off that respirator. Finally Siyeon can rest in peace!

anyway yeah sdfjsdkfsdf

So some people have mixed reviews on this novel/manhwa but I really love it. (I'm on chapter 44 for Manhwa version but I believe I'm on Chapter 107 for the novel)

This is the spoiler for the ending so if you don't want to know what happens just skip my review.

At first I didn't agree with her manipulation towards Eclise but it does make sense because she didn't know the details and needed someone who would have a high status in the future to protect her.
Spoiler

Although it turned out he became a high status knight because he killed her in the game to protect Yvonne (The real daughter).

[collapse]

I do love this because I spoiled myself by reading forums about the ending; (if you wanna know the ending spoiler click the next bit if not then skip lol)
Spoiler

I love the drama and depth this story has. She's taken into a game but what really happened was the game was based on her previous life. In her previous life she was cursed by a 'monster clan' called the Leila cult to be hated and so everyone was always wary about her because she was the one who could extinguish the Leila monsters for good (she has powers of her own that awaken later on). She ended up dying when the sister came back but Yvonne's body was overtaken by a monster of the Leila clan and so after Penelope died in her first life, Yvonne who's actually a Leila monster ate the entire duke's family and ruled the kingdom by getting into the palace through Callisto. The Leila monster can 'seduce' and put a spell on people to make them fall for the Leila whilst Penelope was cursed to be seen as a threat to everyone for no reason. The Marquess Vinter Berdandi who's a wizard, was under the spell but once Yvonne the Leila ruled the kingdom and wreaked havoc he realized what had happened. (Idk if he knew Penelope was cursed or not, but he found out she was the only hope to destroy the Leila for good) But he gave up his life in order to 'freeze their world' and save Penelope's soul. It also rewinded time to before Yvonne was ever found but kept it frozen at that time. Penelope's soul was reincarnated as the Korean girl who was treated poorly by her family, but she was treated poorly because the spell of people hating her was still attached to her soul no matter who she was reincarnated as. So when she woke up in the game that worlds time unfroze and started because she was the needed piece to start their world again. No one has memories of the Leila. So I do love the depth of action and drama this novel does have because I never thought for a second it would turn into an action adventure novel with this much depth to it, I just thought it was a love story (which it is) but it opened up to a huge plot twist.

[collapse]

Also Callisto's bae but if you want to know the ML read the next spoiler.

Spoiler

ITS CALLISTO DUH. Very cute because he seems scary but he's for some reason the only person in that world who isn't wary of her. And every issue she runs into he doesn't blame her or question her and ends up loving her. (There's a change where Eclise finds Yvonne instead of Vinter originally finding her but its because Vinter loves her too but Vinter and Penelope have a 'star crossed' love. They never click and could never trust each other. And so on Penelopes coming of age, Yvonne is there and tries to poison herself to frame Penelope but prior to that when Yvonne came back, Penelope gave up on life because Eclise betrayed her by bringing Yvonne, her family still hated her so she became 'suicidal' and asked Vinter to make her poison so she could kill herself.) Vinter gave her the poison and a necklace that glows if there's poison around and so when Yvonne and Penelope had a toast at the coming of age party, Penelope switched glasses with Yvonne and drank the poison herself. She ended up almost dying but was in a coma because Vinter had made a poison remedy incase because he didn't trust Penelope. Callisto was the one who ran to Penelope first when she was throwing up blood cause the poison while her family didn't even do anything but watch. While she was in the coma, Callisto came to see her everyday and it comes out later after when she wakes up that if she had died, he kept a knife on him at all times so he would kill himself because there's no point of living without her in the world. (Very dramatic and romeo and juliet like lol)

[collapse]

So if you did read all the spoilers I left, I didn't spoil the ending cause I don't know the full details of it but I heard it's super dramatic and cute. I do love this story with how they play it as the villainess always struggles but she breaks out of that struggle she was meant to be in and was able to find her own happiness and strength.

I agree with a lot of the other reviews here, but note that there is a lot of content in the side stories and extras. The full story is not told in the main story, so please read to the very end before deciding on whether you like it or not! With the extras and side stories, they tied up all loose ends and answered all of my questions. Was definitely a worthwhile read.

Wow. Just wow. The main story which has 231 chapters were full of suprises - literally one hell of an emotional roller coaster ride.

I accidentally found this through manhwa and learned that it's based off a novel. The start and until middle the part of the story is not that dark; heartbreaks, secrets, tensions, were just right. But, as the story reaches the end, I must say, it made me an emotional wreck. I nearly dropped the novel because of some spoilers that I've read, but then decided to stick... more>> to it and see how it goes, and oh boi did I do the right thing.

To summarize, I could say that the story and characters is not what you would expect them to be -- story is
Spoiler

not all light, happy andventure, and fluffy

[collapse]
and the characters are not the typical MC and ML, they are imperfect and flawed.

I still haven't read the side stories, but will do so in the future. It's just that the story was amazing yet heavy at the same time.

Recommended for those who likes isekai/time travel genre with a tinge of unexpected series of events. Kudos! <<less

I really love this story. It is a little bit different because it rather has a dark side to it and also that at the beginning with having to choose which lines to say or to do. I hope the FL will get her happy ending. I really pity her for having to experience this oppressed feeling again.

I really look forward to the new chapters and also for the continuation of the manga.

1 start.

Pretty sure there’re plenty of comments explaining why this novel isn’t worth reading.

Just gonna point out that the female lead got away with being the worst type of person ever. Only because her reasons are more “understandable” than others.

... more>> Not to mention those comments that defend her manipulative and childish behavior by saying “Oh! You would do the same if you were in her place!”🙄

And honestly, a character being manipulative was never the problem in the first place.

Penelope is just written badly and lacks actual character development. The only thing the author put effort into building her character is the “tragic” backstory and more excuses.

Overall, this novel deserves a 4-star for the story and the majority of its characters.

Too bad the worst character that ruins it all is actually the most important one.

The female lead, herself! <<less

Story is 5/5, but the translation and translator's note/reaction ruins it for me.

It like more darker and drama focus version of My Next Life as a Villainess. The consequences for every interaction is death, unlike My Next Life as a Villainess where it happens at the end. Sadly, this death consequence eventually fades away, but the MC and characters continues to hold up.

Sadly, the translation is poor and confusing. The sentences aren't making sense and I can't really follow what's going on sometimes. Still I keep reading to find out... more>> what's going to happen next, but then the translator's notes came. I appreciate the fan translations and all the work with no reward is admirable, but I got annoyed with the translator inserting their opinions and reactions in between. It felt like watching a movie and your friend is reacting out loud every 5 minutes with "OMG!", "Of course he did", "I hate him". It gotten too annoying so I just googled the ending instead on continuing to read.

Spoiler to ending in case you're in the same situation.
Spoiler

MC replaces real Penelope because resetting the game too much "killed" her soul.
Winter was suppose to bring back Ivonne, the heroine and real sister of Derrick and Reynold, but Eckles brought Ivonne back instead and betrayed Penelope. However, Eckles is still unstably in love with Penelope and just wanted Penelope to get kicked out and rely on him more. I think Eckles dies trying to protect Penelope from something.
Ivonne turns out to be evil, as she is possessed, and able to manipulate everyone to go against Penelope; Duke, Derrick, and Reynold. Ivonne's manipulation didn't affect Callisto. Callisto has a civil won for the throne and won. Penelope ends up with Callisto. She chose him over returning to her world, which kills her world's body that's in a coma.

I don't know how or if they beat Ivonne, but above is the gist I was able to find.

This is a very interesting take on the villainess genre and I absolutely adore Penelope and how she handles all of the situations thrown at her.

Seriously this is the only novel where I actually agree for MC to not trust anyone and keep her guard up at all times cause the rest of the characters except Callisto are so annoying.

If I start ranting I won't be able to stop so all I'll say is give this a read. I also have read the manga version and the art is awesome... more>> haha.

(Of course I'm still a bit sad about the character development of Eclis getting axed for the plot but I kinda understand why and it makes sense but I still have a small soft spot for him) (but Callisto has always been best guy cause he actually understands Penelope and accepts her as a person.)

Everything, everything is PERFECT. The Romance, the Action, The story, The plot twists. The characters, The crazy love Callisto and Penelope shared.

I RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERYONE HUHUHUHU I LOVE IT!!!!!

P.S THE GODDAMN SIDE STORIES ARE FREAKING GOLD.

First review! Been reading a ton recently but I wanted this to be my first review because the manhwa art is gorgeous and the first story I can say I quite liked! Not perfect by any means but I did enjoy it ultimately. The TLs I read weren't the smoothest so there's probably quite a bit of nuance and text I actually missed but I did read to completion and the side stories since I don't think you can give a proper review without it!

Major things I enjoyed/didn't enjoy:

Spoiler
  • Penelope. Really liked her character. A good but also terrible person at the same time, something that I like. She's not oblivious to it either since it's something she recognizes as well. Most of her actions are driven by her desire to get back to the real world however she's also not immune to the feelings she develops while living her current life. Without giving too much away, it's an interesting conflict and it certainly makes her not a "perfect" FL. The thing I took away after reading it was that she was an imperfect FL. Some might not like that, seeing it as a mark of a flawed character but I personally enjoy things like that. I enjoy some degree of hypocrisy and flawed behavior because to me that gives them depth. Too much and it becomes unbearable but some and it makes them feel more real. Ultimately, Penelope does more good than bad and that's why I enjoyed reading her story.
  • Callisto. Overall I enjoyed his character. Not a groundbreaking character but certainly one that you grow to like as you read. Again, he has his flaws (what he did early in the epilogue to protect the FL, a bit of a stalker to say the least with the map). He's not the best communicator, to be fair neither is the FL. However, they do ultimately still communicate to some degree which is more than what a lot of stories have the ML and FL do so I'm giving him/them credit. I enjoyed his sarcastic side but the thing that I enjoyed the most was what he did in the end in telling the FL to go back home. That was genuinely a surprise because most stories have the ML try to keep the FL with them no matter what but the ML here was big enough to put her desires before his. It's in line with his character overall and how he treats the FL and I personally enjoyed that decision immensely, an automatic boost in my eyes.
  • Character development. Overall, not too much to say. Not a fan but also not a critic. The story's not that long and it's difficult to pack a ton of genuine character development into stories as short as these. Overall, I'd say that it was adequate, the characters don't become new people by the end of the story but they're also not the same people they were at the beginning of the story.
  • Villains. Not a fan of them in this story, they just felt too weak. This is a pretty common complaint of mine in most stories I've read. The villains are rarely fleshed out, they're often cartoonishly evil. In this story, Yvonne felt just... lacking and her reasoning to be the villain was lacking. I think I liked Eclise more as a villain and that's because he got some actual development and storytime.
  • Eclise. Going to dedicate an entire section to him because he deserves it. He gets f*cked the hardest in this story, no contest. He's a s*ave whose country got wrecked, he gets bought by Penelope and used by her, gets used by Yvonne, and ultimately he loses his memories of it all in the side stories. HOWEVER! He's also not really a good guy which makes his character immensely interesting to me. His love for Penelope is not a pure one but an obsessive and possessive one. He wants her to himself, regardless of her happiness or feelings. His betrayal of Penelope is bad but he also betrays his fellow countrymen/s*aves as part of his cooperation with Yvonne. Eclise definitely suffers a ton in the story, some of which is inflicted by Penelope. But, and this is important in my opinion, even if Penelope had genuine feelings for him, his love for Penelope was the obsessive kind all along given the color of his bar. It would've been one thing if it changed but it was always a dark red suggesting that his love for Penelope wasn't twisted by her, it was twisted all along. Ultimately, I did pity him since he was a s*ave and his life improved but was also ruined by Penelope.
  • Side Stories. I liked and disliked some of them. I didn't like how they made Callisto lock Penelope up in the castle. To me, it felt weird since he had just been willing to let her go to another plane of existence literally but now he locks her up? One action is incredibly brave, the other is incredibly cowardly. I do understand why it was used but I thought there was a better way to handle that scenario that made Callisto not such an overprotective/possessive person. The parts I liked though were where they communicated about where they were at and ultimately found an agreeable compromise to the situation they were in. It was good! Some good fluff as well that I enjoyed too, they ultimately have a kid at the end. I'm a sucker for HEA endings and that was nice, just wish they had two or more kids haha but in my head they will for sure.
[collapse]

There's a lot of text above but I tried to give my thoughts on the story. Ultimately, it makes for a decent read, 4/5 stars, and one of the first stories of its kind that I can say I enjoyed. It's not a literary masterpiece but I enjoyed my time reading it. I only wish that it was properly fully translated, I'd happily buy copies of it since it's one I do plan on re-reading from time to time.

Oh my gosh, I can’t... the way the chapters are only half translated is insane. I’m dropping this. Honestly, I want to mark this series as incomplete because this can’t be considered complete-not if whole sections of chapters are missing.

In fact, I’m going to do that and anyone disagrees... you should read 20 chapters and see readers mean by incomplete chapters.

sorry translator, I can handle poor translations but incomplete chapters and then marking the series as complete is a lie

I love how it started at first but as it goes on and one the male targets attained some growth in their characters but the MC which was Penelope is stagnant. She remained the same victim character from the start without character growth and it is frustrating but what kept me from reading until the end is the other side characters not the MC.

Great read! Very entertaining, fun and exciting read from start to finish! I really love the characters, expecially Penelope, Callisto and Reynold! I know that most of you guys don't like Reynold but I really like his character developement thoughout the series. He was a prick in the beginning and he really evolved into a likable character as the series progressed!

The premise seems interesting but in execution it feels like a shojo anime. The translation is a bit awkward and I think some chapters around the 30's are not complete.

FL is not overpowered and there's no op cheat, she only has the game system, and acts with common sense, which is refreshing... It's super sad if you see her original past and that even in a new life she is stuck trying to please the unreasonable men around her to save her life, and at the moment I quit it... more>> does not seem likely to stop soon. But, oddly so far among the usual cast she is the only one with no character development, which conflicts me.

Also I got spoiled on who is the ultimate ML (apparently it's not really a harem? so my fav boys are out of the question) and he's meh.

I give it 3 stars for the attempt at wold building. The author uses extras to flesh out the world and situations much better than many other novels I have read in this site. And there's an attempt at a plot and mini subplots that come with a few of the MLs. <<less

Hello. I've come to the ln after reading part of the manhwa. I found it rather interesting and thought to give it a go. It's a decent read but since about chapter 20, the chapters seem to end too early, and skip parts of the text

For example
Spoiler

When P is accosted after buying her s*ave knight, the story skips directly to when she is already in the mansion and Eclipse's interest is at 18%

Because of that it's, frankly, annoying to read. Don't know if I will finish.

I really liked this story. FL showed growth despite all the confusion and achieved a HAPPY ENDING. I feel sorry for many of the characters specially those that achieved an ending that was sad under the circumstances. I think 8 side stories remain untranslated but this story both the novel and manwha version are must read.
