Waking up, Kim Hajin finds himself in a familiar world but an unfamiliar body.

A world he created himself and a story he wrote, yet never finished.

He had become his novel’s extra, a filler character with no importance to the story.

The only clue to escaping is to stay close to the main storyline.

However, he soon finds out the world isn’t exactly identical to his creation.

I think this novel is good and I do recommend it.

The greatest part here is characters, both protagonists and antagonists. I think the whole cast might be "one of the best" from the novels on this website.

Somewhere around the first third of the novel setting is good too, it's consistent and engaging... But then Author just... Deletes it? Nothing you knew before is important anymore and narrative is just a mess of some random episodes (like in "Villain want to live" by the same Author). But here I can't imagine... more>> anyone being strongly upset about it because of a core axis holding everything together - "all the characters" being so amazing and developing even further is time goes on.

Unfortunatly, the theme of "something you was interested in before stopping being important" is much more consistent than the world these stellar characters live in, so MANY of things you might be hoping to see being developed further are just discarded. So, there are some loose ends, and some of the things that are actually being progressed just stop halfway with the ending.

Again, I do recommend it, all the negative things are easily forgiven with countless positive emotions I'm sure you will experience. <<less

This novel started off strong with its mysteries and problems the MC has to solve and do something about it. I really enjoyed it up until the ending.

The ending dissapointed me. I have so many questions about the ending.
Spoiler

Like how is the genkelope, with their memories lost. It's highly likely that they would question themselves about how they came back as they were all loyal to the MC, unless the co-author just replaced the MC with some other person in their minds. And how is Altrain???? The girl he sponsored in the lower-dimension, did she also forget about him because the author erased her memories too? If not, then what is she thinking now that her sponsor is not reaching out to her anymore?

[collapse]

So many unanswered questions waiting to be answered. But my questions are probably answered with the side stories made by the author. Though I can't find a site to read those short stories from, I still enjoyed this novel except the end.

I rate this a 4/5, ending is just quite dissapointing for my POV.

The good: there are multiple POVs and world-building, as well as varied cast. It's different from all the same-y stories that just follow the MC, MC does a thing, everyone reacts, bla bla bla. Build up of relationships are also believable and gradual.

The bad: all the unnecessary dramas that just doesn't get resolved, and dragged out for no reason. MC rotates FL on different arcs, babies the 1st FL all while making her suffer the worst sh*t possible, keeping her "safe from the truth" when she's going to find out... more>> anyways. Also, for some reason, every f*cking body is involved with the original owner of the body in some way, and that 1 incident gets blown out of proportion only for MC to not GAF. The ending is rushed, as indicated by the 100 side chapters for the author to tie up loose ends.

Imo, the score is like this: 10/10 for around first third of the novel, then down to 7/10, then down to 5/10. <<less

its a great novel... until the 4 year time skip, at that point it just slowly degrades until the end which although not bad, ist any "good" either; ironically, at some point in the novel the author seemed to replicate what happened to the MC and hit a wall, dishing out mediocre material just trying to finish the novel just like the MC. as the saying goes, "art imitates life"

The novel itself is good. It's funny, but with serious parts. The characters have a good background and development. The basis of the novel is not super original, but it is not like a copy and paste of the thousands of novels that there are about authors that are taken to their own novel. It can be said that the author used a common story and altered it to his style.
The much-talked-about ending is certainly somewhat simple, I wouldn't say bad, but it is disappointing. Another bad thing about the novel, are the many elements that appear in different chapters but are later completely forgotten, for example, the MC obtains an artifact, a material or a skill and at that moment a lot of importance is given to that but later It's never used, I mean, if the author doesn't plan to use it later then what does he put it in for.
But well, as I understand it there is a side story where some incomplete episodes are closed, so I would have to read it to know if it is true.

And while it seems like I've said a lot of bad things so far, I actually highly recommend this novel

I really like this novel as far until the last Arc that the co-author made. Almost at this point the author (maybe he got bored or ran out of ideas) started to speed-run his own novel, ... more>>
Spoiler

items that could change the story of some characters were discarded like the seed from Plerion, his Authority -Demon Hunter- was only showed in 1 chapter and then it no longer appeared, extra towers, the memory (existencial) wipe without previous warning, Athena, the sub-worlds, e.t.c

One star for the author : at leaset he can finish his boring novel.

Another star for the translator. He so determined that he can tolerate the borness of translating this bored novel.

The first 200 chapters may be OK. But for the next 400, you can skip read ten chapters in a row without missing anything. Because it's so full of non-sense half-chapter-word-filling unrelated episodes. Unrelated! Like one busying laid out plan to raid the boss, suddenly stopped, walking through the door, bought soy sauce and orange juice to feed the... more>> stray dog in other town!

There are such buying-soy-sauce episodes throughout the novel.

Many reviewers had already written about the dense and ignorant MC, so I wouldn't talk much about him.

The MC abansoned his novel in the first place, out of his denseness. Then he was thrown in to his tr*sh novel by AI from the higher realm. Reason :
Spoiler

his novel was so tr*sh that even the AI could re-write for better, and he allowed the AI to do!

[collapse]

His poorly written novel could be seen from the dialogues between all characters, from beginning to the end. Most of them are one-sentence conversation. Most sentences are short and straight. Half of them were cut in the middle. Dialogues like below are norm.

I say.

She says.

He says that...

She says.

I say.

Worst of the novel is : The MC must be the extra, unimportant, side character. He must have no role. He should not interfere with all the leading characters.

But start from the very early chapter, the (real) author forced the MC to contradict those all. Not only he stole the real MC's role, he almost dump those real MC, ML, FL, important side characters to the tr*shcan. Instead, all of them were turned to be extra char !

In the end, the MC's previous life's original novel becomes nothing but the unfinished novel that no one would read. Even that higher-plane AI (and real author) could not change this truth. <<less

I picked up this novel a few days ago and to be honest, it was a hell of a ride. One amazing thing about the novel is the characters. Each one of the character I’ve read from the beginning has developed and changed greatly at the end. The plot lines are especially intertwined, personally I feel like everything fitted in amazingly kind of similar to a puzzle. The main character of the novel, Kim Hajin, isn’t really overpowered, but his abilities are way more versatile. Romance was here and there,... more>> not too great but not bad. I really enjoyed this novel, but the ending wasn’t conclusive enough for my taste. Give this a novel a read, it won’t fail your expectations! <<less

Definitely a masterclass among light novels. The sheer quality of the protagonist and the new spin the author placed on any used tropes are enough to forgive a couple of minor numerical mishaps on the middle.

It's just, sigh, disappointing.

I dunno, the novel starts off great, by mean truly great. I'm really hooked with the MC behavior cause he's really different and fresh. The setting seems new and fun albeit it still contains tropes like dungeons, monsters, and such. I get to know of the character, the MC, and the world surround it very well at first. But leaning on chapter 60+ an on, the story become more and more confusing. I tried to digest like " which pov is this?" or " who is this... more>> character again?" because the author throw bunch of side character so much that I need to rack my brain to finally figured who that certain character was. Shallow, the side character is too many and seems shallow.

I just lost my interest because the story doesn't intrigued me anymore. Heck I didn't curious enough about what happend at the end. Oh yeah, the system of how the power works, hero, guild, hunter and such, truly confusing. In comparison with orv, when I first read that novel although the power system is new (constellations, story fragment and on) I can figure it out. But the power system in this novel, is just straight up confusing, cause the author jumbled about almost everything he can, you will read about magic, high tech devices, artifacts, and the system about his stats and stigma is just 🙂 straight up CONFUSING.

If you have high imaginative concept, maybe you can rack this author world building into your brain. But for me, this is just nah. <<less

Wow. This series is a wild ride. Objectively I would rate it 3/5 since there are tons of flaws throughout the story, but I usually end up dropping LNs so the fact that The Novel's Extra engrossed me enough to binge read it over a single weekend means I have to give it a 5/5. It doesn't hurt that the translation I read is very high quality.

I don't want to summarize the story or go into too much detail, but here is what I love and hate about this series:

The... more>> Good

  • I really like the MC. He can have some generic or self-insert qualities, but I enjoy how mature he is, and how his vulnerabilities can come through sometimes as well. He's a bit dense but not as much as the tag would lead you to believe; he does have multiple love interests, but those characters are developed as people instead of their identities revolving around loving the MC.
  • Character dynamics. The main characters interact with each other naturally, they develop and grow together, and they have unique personalities and goals. They build into some really emotional moments. As I mentioned above, there's certainly some romance but it's not the sole focal point, which is a good balance IMO.
  • Breaking down some tropes. It's pretty obvious from the title/premise of the story, but the MC is an "extra". The skills he acquires throughout the story are rather unique and he's not the flashy generic hero, nor is he completely overpowered, needing instead to rely on his allies.
    Spoiler

At the end of the story, he even loses most of his powers and goes back to being an "extra", which is a great bittersweet ending.

    [collapse]
The Bad

(Disclaimer: I haven't read the side stories yet.)

  • Parts of the story are a confusing mess. There are at least a few glaring loose threads at the end, some of which can be addressed in the side stories I suppose, but some of which I feel like were forgotten about. Also, around 2/3 into the story, it feels like the author got bored and just started creating new systems and currencies and stat points out of thin air. I think these random details could have been dropped entirely.
  • The pacing and story beats can be a bit inconsistent. The series started off alright, got really good, and around the chapter 250-300 mark took a big dip in quality (before finishing fairly strong). The time line is also very unclear, and it's hard to keep track of how much time passes between chapters or even paragraphs.
  • It felt like the author wanted to have an open ending in terms of romance, but the love interests are treated SO unfairly. At some point it was just uncomfortable to see overtures of certain girls liking the MC when the MC clearly doesn't reciprocate their feelings.
    Spoiler

Also he ended up with my least favorite of the romantic interests.

    [collapse]
Basically, there are a ton of minor nits I could bring up that annoy me. But the overall story and characters are unique and interesting. There's also a healthy amount of humor, without detracting from the serious tone of the novel. Overall, I think it's worth completing if you really enjoy the first 50 or so chapters, otherwise all the flaws will only get more annoying as you go along. <<less

Everything was so convenient for the MC. There was almost no thrill in the story-everything will turn out for the better for him. And the misunderstanding? Apparently everyone thought he likes everyone. There was little to no interaction with the male characters, including the original MC. But in every chapter (at least until 76), he has interaction with the girls. I hate harem novels so maybe I'm just sensitive about this. Plus, I'm not clear about his opinion on the world- does he treat it as a novel or as... more>> an actual world with real people? Ah right, he's also passive- he waits for an event to happen, then take advantage of it (despite knowing that he could've prevented it from happening in the first place thus preventing others from dying). <<less

It was great, I really like all the twists and turns and MC's claim to being a genius is properly explained.

I dropped it at the point when the story is saturated and the question of Who MC Would End Up With became the main theme. I just Googled the answer. Not disappointed by it either but I'm just not interested in all the girls gunning for MC tales of woe.

Recommend to read until this arc, then, feel free to abandon it for triteness.

I'll probably reread it again to enjoy the... more>> beginning but stop before this arc. <<less

Dropped

Hmmm, it feels pretty average. Nothing is terrible or anything but the main character feels really bland? I can't really get his personality. And the female characters do not appeal to me in the least. Especially the one that likes the antagonist in the original novel. She was introduced as a character to be disliked and until now, no matter how interested the MC acts towards her, nothing is changing my mind about her. The other female character I am more neutral towards but I also don't have any fondness... more>> for. Then the original protagonist is barely in the story, so I have zero thoughts about him. Also, the world is kinda uninteresting to read about, so whenever the MC does his money-making tasks, I'm kinda bored? Sadly, I don't think this is for me even though I came here after being recced from tr*sh of the Count's Family and Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, both of which were pretty interesting and excellent. I wonder if I should even continue, will it get better hmmm

Korean nationalism - check. Alhough phrases like 'Of course, the English Royal Court wasn’t worth much compared to Korea' are somewhat amusing, it feels strange overall. Also half of the side charachters are called Kim, and the MC is Kim too. Feels rather confusing until you realise who's talking. Another national specific present is a metric ton of very important korean problems, like who is taller, who is older and which honorifics are used in random talks.

Apparent plot problem is a clueless MC. Apparently he's doing something but without defined... more>> aim and it seems completely from the blue in most cases.

And what grinds my gear the most is the author's way to balance MC's overpoweredness, apart from his clueless lifestyle. It is to make everybody around the MC hate him and make his life harder without any sane reason. Instead of intended presentation of the MC's hard life it becomes a neverending show of how sociopathic are almost all the other charachters. This problem may just be the reason for me to drop the novel. <<less

The gem of this novel doesn't lie on technical plot or complex concepts. It actually lies on character development.

The characters in this novel were not likeable in the least. Certainly because they were not flawless. But if you ever do found one you like, it is tantamount to say that you actually like an actual person rather than a character in the novel.

That's how it feels as I kept reading.

... more>> Also, ML is not that much of a god-like. It's true his abilities is a cheat and his creativity played a big role in his survival. But aside from that, he sucks lol

Kim Hajin was not like the other OP MCs acting like 'I know what ever plan you're thinking of but unfortunately, I'm too smart so I already devise a gift for you' *rolls eye*

And he wasn't even socially adept to be honest. But Kim Hajin is within an acceptable range. Certainly. *Nods*

Anyways, the ending is satisfactory. But the near-end part is what I really like the most. <<less

Liked this one a lot but a bit of a down side is how the MC acts when it comes to himself and others.

He truly believes himself to be an "extra" for a long time and therefore he's for instance not allowed to fall in love with some of the girls, there is also the fact that he believes that he will return someday and is mostly focused on returning to his own world.

The story is based around a story the MC himself wrote that was a huge success but... more>> eventually he got a writers block which led to him being unable to bring the story forward while at the same time many of the last chapters were sub-par. The MC then allows another "writer" to take over the story and is then transported into the story world only to inhabit background character A. Being the author he does get special privileges like being able to influence his stats, skills and so on.

Overall the story feels at least to me pretty well thought out and follows a fairly straight plot without including a bunch of filler chapters to pad things out. It does to some degree suffer later on in my opinion with how everything that has happened is explained.

Some major spoilers on world settings.

Spoiler

In the story we get told that the higher dimension you live in the more stable the world is and the less stuff like magic, superpowers or gods exist. Our world being of the highest dimension is the most stable one. However a being in a lower dimension wanted to create a universe but their unable to create a new world on their own instead they need to borrow the ideas or worlds created by ppl in our world. On top of that they also need the souls of that person to create this world and act as an anchor that makes this new world stable. So in accepting that this being in a lower dimension was allowed to use and write his story however he wanted he somehow agreed to having his story turn real and become a part of it.

At this point it's kinda weird since it's explained that creatures of a higher dimension are overall much more powerful but somehow by saying yes the MC was kidnapped and then used as a battery to create a new world. It's also explained that if he ever dies during the story the world will cease to exist as well since he's the creator and what keeps the world and everyone in it, all the dimensions connected to it and so on alive and running.

Later on it's also explained that once the story finishes his soul will truly fuze with this world and it will become stable by pretty much taking all his powers as a higher dimensional being. Which will also result in him losing all his powers and becoming a normal mortal.

To me this part felt kinda convoluted because the story sets it up as he's the creator god and pretty much all powerful in this world but because he gave away his story writing rights to the "co-author" who's from a lower dimension then him. He somehow only had access to a fraction of the powers he should have and eventually even lost that and everything he had gained through out the novel. Almost everyone he knows also loses all their memories of him because of him losing his "self" so to speak-

[collapse]

There is some romance in this novel though the main love interest shifts after about a 1/3 of the story. I am a bit unsure if I should call it a harem ending or not since it's left pretty ambiguous at the end.

Spoiler

Pretty much the MC get's a girlfriend fairly early on I would say but he was forced to kill her brother or the brother would have turned into a demon that would have killed a lot of ppl. When she eventually learns of this she can't forgive him and even if she loves him above all else she can't be together with him. In the end however she get's an item that let's her wish for anything and she makes a wish to return to the past so she can save her brother and be with the MC, which would create a separate dimension where the story starts all over but with her getting the knowledge of what was to come.

The main love interest is also introduced fairly early on then she and the MC pretty much falls for each other but it takes quite some time for them to become a couple that lasts to the end, her being one of the few who remembers him in the end.

Why I call it a maybe harem is that there are two other girls who loves the MC as well from early on and they also remember the MC and seemingly lives with him or visits him a lot in the ending but it's never explained if he ends up with them as well or they stay as friends. One of them is even the mother of his daughter. The daughter is born from a seed that was given a drop of blood from the mother and infused with the MC's power which gave birth to a witch so no hanky panky between them.

All in all to me this was a fun read that I enjoyed. <<less

I absolutely love this novel. It is most definitely my favorite novel I have ever read, but I understand that is because it really plays into a trope that I love really well, being the main character already "knowing" people before he meets them as a result of his prior knowledge before he comes to this world. The characters in this novel are great, seeing things from the perspective of the guy who created them also leads to some very interesting thoughts, such as the morality of falling in love... more>> with a character you created, that has since become real. My favorite part about this novel however, is how well the MC's power is maintained throughout the series. He very slowly and gradually builds up power, at a rate just fast enough to stay ahead of the competition, but never truly becomes absolutely broken (save for in one specific circumstance that would spoil a whole arc if I talked about it). It does a great job of keeping tension and subverting expectations, and at the end of the story all loose ends are tied up and little is left to the imagination, which is how I like my endings. I do think the ending could have been better, but I am overall satisfied with it, and would highly recommend anyone to read this novel. If you actually made it through this block of text, congratulations, I have no real reward, but we can pretend I just gave you a cookie. Bye. <<less
