Heroic Death System

“I curse you to never die in peace!”

Thus, Shang Ke started a never-ending cycle of constantly throwing away his miserable life.

He would always show himself as a martyr while letting others cry over his death.

It was because of a woman’s curse that Shang Ke was hit by a car and turned into a human vegetable. This led to him becoming bound by an unlucky system in which he was cursed to die. The most unfortunate part was that he never cheated on anyone’s feelings. The reason for why he was cursed by a woman was because of a guy named Qi Chen. Qi Chen was a ladies man, and he would always use Shang Ke as an excuse to break up with any woman that he was with. As a result, Shang Ke was always blamed for the breakups. Since then, the main character could only be forced to cross into different worlds. He would thus experience for himself, the hero’s “thrill”.

Loved the novel. Shed a few tears in some of the arcs but it was worth it.

The ML'S character is highly questionable in a few arcs, no matter how much the word yandere is used, certain things are not acceptable. But since, it is consensual on the MC's part (because he identifies his lover), I can just barely tolerate it.

But, beyond that, I enjoyed all the arcs, especially the Re ones.

One of the best QT novels. I really like this one and Don't Pick Up Boyfriends from the tr*sh Bin. MC is gentle, smart and creative while ML is a loyal lover even he loses memories every world.

Every arcs are not boring and the worlds are quite unique and have their own meaning.

Give it a try, it's a good danmei novel.

the speed of falling in love is unreasonable, especially for someone like me who has a low EQ. A lot of arcs that I think are too rushed and for some reason don't really leave an impression on me.

Spoiler

especially in the first arc, it doesn't make sense for ML to fall in love with MC just because he saw him being tortured really I don't understand his brain circuit. Even though it's written that MC looks beautiful when he refuses to talk when he's being tortured, I'm still confused likeeeee where's the senses arghhhh

Okay, I'll leave my footsteps here. I'm a QT lover, but on the condition "it's clear who's the MC and who's the real body owner".

I really love FOD, also for this reason where the author puts them so clearly.

It is also the same with this novel. But my biggest disappointment is ML. And looking at other reviews almost all agree,

ML is tr*sh that thinks using its underside. He's basically useless and I totally disagree about how he keeps forcing his hot d*ck on the MCs as a form of... more>> love and longing. Ahh, doesn't the MC just look like a s*x partner rather than a lover? Very disgusting.

Then in the arc re:guard and guide, he even sinks into sadness and completely ignores the child the MC left behind. And he in the last arc is the most unbearable, I really hope the MC is better together with Qi Chen. Wei Xun was just tr*sh among the worst tr*sh with no hope of recycling at all.

Although the ML in FOD isn't very good either, the easy-to-heat type too. But he's still more rational, a little more useful, and I can still feel he loves MC. Instead of just being tied to s*x like tr*sh ML here. For the MC and plot, although there are some shortcomings but it can still be tolerated as light reading. Bye bye❤ <<less

This is my first time reading QT. I was afraid reading this kind of genre because I can't imagine having to change the ML over and over again. The first semi-QT I have read is "A Wave of Exes Came Looking For Me What Should I do?"

And I think I choose the bad one for my journey to try reading a QT novel. This novel is like basically reading a bunch of short stories. The setting of each arc is sometimes good sometimes not. Depends on each of our preferences.... more>> At first it was good but as the time goes on the arc become boring. Basically just finishing the mission. And the development of the MC and ML is just like love at first sight and then they go papapa.

Spoiler

And ML is basically a scum and a possessive bastard. I honestly doesn't mind possessive ML, but this one? He basically ignore all human rights! Although in the end he noticed that MC is strong on his own, but he's still a freaking scum! It's okay to r*pe, it's okay to restrain, it's okay to decide everything for the MC. And the worst thing of all, MC doesn't mind! He just spoiled the ML and forgiving each of his act. I have read a bunch of possessive ML but I can't stand this one. Really, I don't mind r*pe, I don't mind twisted stories, but this one? I can't. The ML doesn't grow in character. It's a huge disappointment.

[collapse]

Well I think this isn't my preferences. I plan to read other QT. <<less

I remember having read this novel a long time ago when it still was only partially translated and I had to mtl the majority of the novel. Maybe it was due to mtl making it difficult to understand the whole context of each arc or whatever, but I barely remembered the plot of a lot of arcs which made for a better reading experience on the second, fully-translated read.

There are good and bad points to this novel and maybe it's the nostalgia speaking, but I don't really mind the cons... more>> all that much (either that or I am desensitized).

Among the cons there is the r*pey/s*x-crazed nature of the ML. Throughout all the different arcs, he has slightly different personalities due to his living circumstances and lack of past-life memories. But one thing always stays the same and that is that he falls in love with the MC fast, his feelings quickly bordering obsession (honestly, it's not even bordering anymore. He IS obsessed), oh, and the fact that he thinks with his d*ck. Dude would live his life with his g**italia inside the MC 24/7 if he could. This, unfortunately, makes him also less likeable, especially in the real life arc. He is a straight up r*pist there. But it's glossed over because the MC loves him and will accept his s*xual assault as just rough love-making (someone else rolling their eyes with me?)

After talking about the ML so much I forgot the other minus points so let's move on to talking about the MC.

The MC... I don't mind him all that much. He is a bit of a holy mother. But he probably became like that due to the mission of dying heroically in each world. Or maybe he is inherently gentle and patient, who knows~

I liked how he gradually grew stronger and more OP through learning and studying different subjects for years in the system's training space instead of magically being injected with the knowledge without the need for hard work.

The plot itself was nothing particularly new. But I did like how we got a glimpse of how the ML lived on (suffered) after the MC died and then got some closure when the MC revisited the worlds.

All in all, it's an okay read if you get over the r*apey aspect of the ML. <<less

For the loooooooongest time I didn’t read this cuz of that r*pe tag, and it is there with good reason, seriously appropriate TW, it happens. And I’m not really into angst, maybe every couple years I just want to cry my eyes out and cleanse my soul. That’s why angst exists! Seriously try it sometime.

But I digress, I’m glad I ran out of things to read and finally gave it a try. The character development and True Love trope are well done to where... It kinda slips to the back... more>> of your mind, even with the MC themselves, eyes wide open, knowing that’s what it is and if it was anyone else, he would cut off their third leg.

I like the MC, they are realistic and pragmatic but also gentle and sweet, and just seem genuinely kind without being naive or s*upid about it.

The ML is forceful and consistent... Yep. I like them too tho. I think my fave reincarnation was Ivan but my fave arc... they all had their merits. They were cute. A++ I finished it in two days, and just couldn’t stop reading. <<less

(English not my first language, and also not my second. It's my third language. This review full of grammar mistakes that some people might find it annoying. And I'm not gonna apologize for bad at language which I never use daily)

I have not finished the novel yet, but this might be my favorite QT themed novel for now.

First of all, there's NO ANNOYING SYSTEM THAT'S ACT CUTE, BRAT-ISH, AND HAVE SUPER CHEATS TO MAKE EVERYTHING EASY. DO NOT ACT AS THE HOST'S SERVANT, DO NOT UNNECESSARY TALK TO... more>> MC. And they also did not deliberately make things difficult for the MC for the sake of plot (like when the system suddenly under go maintenance with out prior notification, of when they suddenly goes malfunction)

The system in the novel literally only communicating with MC when MC finish the mission, or when in between worlds. And there's no unnecessary drama between the MC and the system. And I really REALLY like this kind of system. While the system did give some cheats, the MC still have to finish the mission with his brain, and not depend on cheats.

Second, I really like MC's character. He's, sensitive, know when to act, know when to use his head and his character pretty consistent (THIS IS IMPORTANT! Some QT MCs really annoyed me with their inconsistency, make me think of the MC has multiple personality disorder. At first they called the MC smart, but turns out he can't use his brain later in the story -, -)

Third, the MC always act every world as a real world. I dont remember what the system said about the worlds in this QT because I skimmed the first chapter, but MC treats everyone in the world as real person. Real person that have characters, and emotion. And he did not solely focus on the story provided by the system, as it was not his main focus (his only goal was to complete the mission that given to him).

And of course any story will have their own cons.

As for me, the ML was rather really forceful. Tbh, if I was the MC I might get scared by the ML.

Spoiler

In one arc when ML forced himself to the MC (YES, THERE'S R-PE, READ THE TAG), I really disappointed. But later, the MC did not make it easy for the ML, so I'm s litttlleeeee satisfied.

[collapse]

Over all, the story really good, and the arcs also well written. For me it was 5/5, based on how the system written and how smart and consistent the MC is. So far this is the first QT novel that I manage to read over 10 arcs. The other just turn me off at 3rd/4th arcs. <<less

concept and I LOVED Pupu 9/10. Fourth arc was kinda meh to me? 5/10 for that. Idk maybe the male lead will get character development in the later arcs but I don't really like how pushy he's being. Even when he's wrong or forceful the MC just forgives him.

ARCS (Major Spoilers)

Spoiler

First arc Ravel, loved him he was my favorite, the dude literally witnessed the person he loved die twice to save him, someone give this poor man a hug..

Second arc Chenfeng was bearable, I pitied him at the end especially in the ending:

Jian Xin turned back, a faint trace of grief in her eyes.

She silently followed her older brother out of the sickroom, not speaking until they were in the car, "Brother, you hate me, don't you?"

"You are my younger sister. I do not hate you, " Jian Chenfeng faced ahead, his tone dull as he continued, "but, I will never forgive you."

Jian Xin, you lost someone who was willing to use his life in order to love you. And I lost someone who I was willing to use my entire lifetime to love...

The last part broke my heart : (

Third arc Tylor was ok I guess but I kinda liked Kasier more, Tylor's change of feelings was too abrupt for me he went from hating-ish and being indifferent to Shang Ke to loving him, even asking him suddenly to be his lover when they've never even acted intimate towards each other beforehand.

Fourth arc Feng Juan. Sigh. Where do I start with this guy? In the first scenario wherein they were hiding I thought he'd grow up to be a cute kid but he turned out to be the character I disliked the most. He's pushy af, even after the MC told him that they should sleep separately, this guy forced what he wanted and moved his things to the mc's room, and if the MC hadn't won those 'competitions' they had he probably would've also browsed through his phone! Heck, he even fcked the MC while he was sleeping! And the worst part? The MC just lets him off every. single. time.

[collapse]
I mean I kinda get it but eh. The main reason I'm putting this on hold if not yet obvious is the ML. The MC is fine, the stories are fine, the ML no. I'll edit this after I get the motivation to continue reading this novel.

After following this for a couple years and rereading it numerous times I can say this is a decent novel. The ending was unfulfilling and left me unsatisfied but the different arc were really good. There were good arcs and there were other arcs that were not as good but the ideas were interesting and you could go back and reread the arcs if you wanted to. Sadly there is a huge plot hole with the origin of the main characters and I really wish the author expanded on that.... more>> Originally I assumed that we would get to go back to the “original world” as most novels do to summarizes the relationships of the characters and bring more insight to it but that did not end up happening
Spoiler

you could argue that the last arc was the “original world” but I mean the “origin world” where they were cursed by the fate changing lamp (?)

[collapse]
.

Spoiler

I may be bitter because of the almost abrupt ending with the little blurb of them growing up together but I though that at least the ML would get that experience of growing up with him (as I thought that the ML getting jealous in the last arc was a foreshadowing to them fully growing up together). But I may be just greedy

.

Spoiler

Another tangent, but I really couldn’t stand the last arc with all the r@py aspects. It really frustrated me how the ML could do whatever he wanted pretty much and the MC would forgive him. If it was anyone else then they would probably be impacted negatively from crappy overbearing r@pist. Even if it’s fiction it’s disgusting.

[collapse]

What I really did appreciate is the author giving us “bad endings.” I think that it gives the novel more when QT has some unsuccessful arcs. We even got reruns of the arcs where the fails became successes and the author made it work. The concept behind the transmigrations and the “heroic deaths” concept is so interesting and I wish we got more.

I can say that this novel is one of my favourite QT novels at least the begging parts

minus the ending

and the beginning arc will always make me come back (whenever I forget about this novel I remember the red flower and I come back). That arc was so impactful for me. <<less

I finished reading this awesome novel!! So, here’s my review :)

Alright, first thing first, I wanted to say that I ABSOLUTELY ABSOLUTELY adore this novel. My fav arc is arc 3, 7, 11 and 14 which I re-read it for the nth times.

The story tells about how MC died and heroic death system helped MC so that he “lives” again by doing the mission which is dying heroically. I love the story separately instead of the main plot. Yup, there’s a plot twist near the end of the story.... more>> Which, I don’t really like it bcs first, I don’t understand

Spoiler

about how the “mole” is separated by the “main soul” yeah, that sh*t doesn’t make sense at all. I mean, if you think logically, how is that even possibly? Also, on how the “mole” gets to remember the memories and the “main soul” forgot about it. Next one, okay, maybe bcs my brain is s*upid but I seriously don’t understand how the “villain” (you know, that dude who trapped the MC and ML in that lantern) yeah, I don’t understand his motive.

[collapse]

So, for me, I like how the author wrote the arc and how the MC gets to repeat the world with HE. Which mostly world-hopping novels that had SE in their arc doesn’t do. Honestly my rating would be 4.5 yeah.. The ending just ruin the whole thing. It could’ve been a better one but okay ig <3 <<less

I actually really liked this. A couple arcs were really boring but damn when they were good they were good. Our MC is so sweet and intelligent you can help but love him. The ML is typically tbh. If it wasn’t for the personality of the MC I wouldn’t like him much but they work well together. Overall a pretty good read that I finished in 2 days.

I promised myself I wont cry.. But I did. Really I wasnt too sure about reading this at first, repetitive dying doesn't sound appealing. Im glad I listened to the positive reviews. The plot is good. Even tho sum arcs weren't half bad, most of them dragged out for quite a while. Well, that's not the point of my review here nvm.

MC and ML are super bland. I get that to die heroically as f*ck, MC gotta act like Holy Father to impress the masses. Sure, act as much as you want, but I have yet to see his real persona? Or is he Holy Father for real? He's kind, magnanimous, selfless, radiant... If you don't count his occasional swearing to the... more>> system, you'd be hard-pressed to find any imperfections. Dunno you but to me, he's just oh so boring, I came here after reading 100+ chapters of "The Perfect Destiny" and laughing my ass off so my opinion on this dude is even lower rn.

ML is a classical possessive s*x maniac, nothing new here. I don't necessarily dislike this stereotype either, but he was just so basic. Since the author refused to show his thought process and feelings, other than those times when MC dies and he feels so sad, he comes off bland and his instantaneous attraction to the MC doesn't make things easier for me.

I also have doubts about their relationship lmao. I can't help but think that what ML fell for was MC's Holy Father act and nothing else. Just think, if MC wasn't so selfless and acted like a total adrenaline addict all this while, would ML still love him as he did now?

I know nothing about MC, but I'm at least aware that he's not a fan of courting death and not a selfless person.

In short, character interactions sucks due to the severe lack of persona lmao, but then again, the plot isn't half bad. I found some worlds interesting. <<less

And regarding the ML:

Spoiler

I'm okay with the ML and can even say that I kinda like him because I approve of him in most of the stories. I don't actually dislike him as much as some others here. His personality has differences in every arc. I don't like the "bad" ones but I'm pretty chill with the others. Sure, even the better ones are overbearing but I've honestly become immune to it with so many years with BL stories, I've actually seen worse. It's just Wei Xun (real-life arc) and Rhine (ABO arc) who I "hate" cause... they just aren't the best. But I'm okay with separating them from the others who are relatively a lot better. Though, emphasis on relatively. It was hard to sit through the last arc cause of Wei Xun though so I do understand other readers', who aren't willing to separate the different MLs, disappointment in the downfall in the ML's character.

my love for this novel is immense. I have already reread it twice now, and the times I reread some specific arcs is numerous.

My five stars doesn't really pertain to the plot or the novel but by the enjoyment and adventure I had while reading this. I don't really read qts but I stayed for this one because the worlds in this novel are too diverse. OwO

Also, I read this in summer last year, I think??? I remember that when I went jogging with my friend all I talked about was this book lol (it's because I stayed up all night reading this) I'm pretty sure I pissed her off tho hehehhe.

It was getting too lengthy tbh, it could have ended way earlier. Some arcs got boring and are less descriptive as compared to previous arcs. Definitely suitable for those who likes transmigration story or world hopping, but don't expect it to be like Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil or The Perfect Destiny, while there are similarities, HDS's backstory is more mundane than the other two mentioned novels.

But if you want to enjoy different arcs of unique story, then just go ahead. Because I'm someone who cares about the backstory so it affected my enjoyment of this novel.

Ultimately, kudos to the translation team for finishing this much translation, not easy. While there are mistakes here and there, I liked it that they place the Mandarin version and translated version sentence by sentence so I can reference.
