It’s Actually Not Easy Wanting to be a Supporting Male Lead

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

In this period where countless supporting lead actors always attempt to counterattack, turn over a new leaf or simply refuse to take up the role, his purpose of existing is to fill the role of a good supporting male lead and uphold his duty to the best of his ability. To add the needed lustre to storylines and this world. Only, it’s a pity that even those unafraid of god-like enemies will be afraid of pig-like teammates.

Bitterly, he realises that for some unfathomable reason, he is being bothered time and again by a bastard who refuses to follow the script…

In order to walk the path of a good supporting male lead, he engages in a battle of wits and courage with that person. Loving each other and killing each other, one ultimately cannot escape fate’s teasing– why is it so difficult wanting to be a responsible and diligent supporting male lead?! QAQ

Easy to forget, easy to get tired of it.

Saying this because I made more than one pause, while reading this. And when I got back it was hard for me to remember what happened before, except the main plotline of MC being something like AI/"creation" and ML following him after the first world.

What bothered me:

  • the whole beastiality thing, like f*ck no.
  • when the story insists that FY is a creation, so that's why he can't sympathize with people, treats worlds like a game etc. time and time again the novel repeats it. but isn't that denouncing the importance of all the characters the story tries to push on you so you'd feel invested? not to mention that the whole lacking emotion being told repeatedly makes the reader believe that and who wants to follow unemotional robotic MC? about lazy, MC doesn't get into plots and stays almost always on sidelines, while ML deals with everything. Example, quoting: "He was too lazy to deal with any superfluous matters, nor did he have any interest in them". This phrase appears more often when MC decides to rely on ML and not care. which makes me think... what is the point of those worlds then?
  • the strange relationship, which started from ML forcing MC. each arc he was the victim of a failed plot, because of ML he couldn't progress and this is wrapped into 'love' package? and only who knows how many arcs later and ONLY after MC was about to be obliterated, our ML remembers that he actually can adjust things, so it will comply with the plot. which paints the previous worlds with a tone of insensitivity. though who is surprised, after forcing MC and later chasing him, sometimes his thinking of only 'pa-pa-pa' is ridiculous and repulsive (like arc 5, MC is a dog, but that hound ML feels sorry he has to wait till next world to bed, or arc 11 MC is poisoned, but ML drinks vinegar instead). his constant wish for s*x doesn't remind me of love, but erectile dysfunction.
  • that is why it's hard for me to believe in their feelings. he resisted for so long, it felt like not love but that he had just given up. also MC is portrayed silly, but he sounds just s*upid, his s*upidity should sell meng, yet I can't buy it. but maybe because I like MCs who are not so indifferent to the world and bring something to the story I don't really see myself liking FY that much.
Thanks, but no thanks.

I love where this is going.

No I don't.

Spoiler

Change my mind, I really dislike the Male Lead. He is a selfish, rude, possessive as*hole who doesn't care about the feelings of the Main Character and basically forces things to go his way when MC is trying to do his job.

I really hate him.

Meh. Its great at first. The first volume and the second, then it just degrate from the third, mainly because of the ML. I mean come on, since you like the person then what you will think is not to cause them trouble, pain, stress etc. And do the opposite but all what the ML did to our MC is that. All of that. Urghh. Annoying twat. Urghhh. Its not even the level of a elementary notice me sempai kinda thing where you bully your crush. Urghh. Come on if... more>> you like him make him like you in a different way not this. Urgh <<less

While not having the most original premise the story has an engaging (if not a bit oblivious) protagonist with humorous banter between him and his system, but the main love interest is what drags down the story for me at least. He is selfish and inconsiderate to the point of coming off as more the villain that should be kept far away from the protagonist than someone we should be rooting for.

Spoiler

There's a one-sided misunderstanding after the first arc when Zhao Xihe (the love interest) learns Sui Yuan (the protagonist) is a fellow transmigrator and falls under the impression Sui Yuan had played him which is pretty dumb when you think about it since he had been playing a role and act out of character reduces their points to level up and potentially gain free will. How Zhao Xihe did not realize this is beyond me. Misinformed hate transforms into possessive infatuation because I honestly cannot call what's between these two love. Zhao Xihe for the rest of the arcs I've read up to ab*ses his free will to basically take advantage of Sui Yuan and screw him over redacting points from him as a supporting male lead.

[collapse]

If you're into possessive male leads than this has plenty of it. I still plan on keeping up with this since Sui Yuan and his system are fun to read about. <<less

First Arc: I CRIED. DID NOT EXPECT THIS DEVELOPMENT. Also laughed when the ML realized what happened.

Second Arc: Laughing cause the ML is chasing after supporting male lead. Sui Yuan and his System are confused. Hahaha... both the System and Female Lead called him an innocent child. He's dense and adorable af.

If you love Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil, you'll love this. The premise is very similar, but less ruthless by far. MC is a pure transmigrator that is trying really hard to adhere to the plot as the supporting character
Spoiler

while ML is also a transmigrator that chases him around through worlds and ruining all of MC's hardwork. ;DD

Hatequit around arc 6.

Tags should include non-con with a chance of zoophilia.

It wasn't funny and it wasn't cute. I don't know what novel the other reviewers are reading, but it's not the same one I read. Well, the first arc or two were promising, but then it went weird and creepy real fast.

The romance makes no sense. The ML is a classic overpossessive yandere type and the MC is so not into the ML that the ML's active pursuit feels really creepy and wrong.

Spoiler

The ML chases the MC through the different worlds and in every world his behaviour gets more possessive and creepy.

At first it was just forced kisses and spending time with the MC despite his will. But then it turned into blackmailing the MC to be in a s*xual "lovers" relationship with him or otherwise threatening to screw his supporting male lead job over.

And then, when the MC is a dog, he becomes his owner, threatens him again with castration and zoophilia etc, to stay with him bc he "loves him so much"............ No.

I'm assuming that they will turn this r*pe into a romance in the later arcs, but by arc 6 the MC was still very reluctant to be with the ML and def not in love.

[collapse]

Maybe just not my cup of tea at all, but I wouldn't recommend this novel to anyone. <<less

This was really fun to read. I understand a lot of readers are very annoyed at the ML right now, but what to do - this is what happens when you have a MC who is only interested in sticking to the script, and an ML playing the male lead destined to fall in love with the female lead having no interest in anyone else but the MC. This does change later on though, and the ML does acknowledge the MC's goals so he tries - emphasis on tries -... more>> not to mess up the script too much, but he always fails.
Spoiler

ML switches roles in order to mess up the script the least, and does things to preserve the plot to the best of his ability i.e. Not killing his love rival cause his love rival is the main lead just to please MC.

[collapse]
It's really very cute!

And the MC is dense, but not in the annoying kind of dense, but because he doesn't know what each action means, he just chooses to stick to the script to the best of his ability - even when sticking to the script doesn't make sense anymore, which makes his actions (which would have looked logical if the script had progressed normally) look completely irrational, and creates very funny situations
Spoiler

where people assume it's because he likes some random character.

[collapse]
It's hilarious!

Also, earlier arcs have the ML kinda but not really forcing himself on MC. Maybe more like creating situations to trap the MC in,
Spoiler

like in arc 4, 6 and 7.

[collapse]
to which the MC doesn't really have any opinion about, but it's not explicitly consensual - even if MC's only complaint is the wrecking of the script. Later arcs does show that the ML does respect the boundaries set by MC, even if they're so low they're almost non-existent, which is always a plus point. <<less

I honestly don't know how to rate this story. The first chapter, or first part is amazing and even gave me deja vu. It went downhill from there, and I had to stop reading at chapter 5, when the MC is reborn as a dog. I feel like I should have stopped when my instincts told me to, but I ended up reading most of that chapter.. (Cries). Even after this world is passed and he is human again, I don't want to keep reading since everything has been going... more>> steadily down hill towards a certain direction. I almost feel like the First world should be it's own small book, free of the brain shredding or bad influence from future reincarnations/worlds. <<less

*Does not Contain Spoilers*

Ok so I see a lot of low reviews and I would like to say some of them do have a point but... I don’t think this is as bad as it makes it out to be. I have read a lot and I mean a lot of world hopping books and this one honestly isn’t that bad I wouldn’t say it’s in the top but it definitely isn’t worth those low reviews.

World Settings

In my opinion the actual plots of each arc are pretty good I mean... more>> they are ones you will often find in world hopping bls but they don’t feel boring at all. At the end of the first arc when the plot twist was revealed I was honestly shocked cause I didn’t read the description of the book....I think the twist is unique in a way.

Background Characters

I will say tho the main focus of the book is the romance between MC and ml, the worlds were particularly built for their romance but I don’t find it annoying at all. My biggest problem with the book is that the background characters are background characters you won’t remember them after each arc, they are basically there to fuel the romance. So if your looking for a story of intriguing characters and full 3D worlds like (qwfod) I would probably say this one isn’t for you.

Face Slapping

Also if your looking for face slapping this book is not for you, there is face slapping but I don’t think it can be counted as the generic face slapping. One of my favorite things in the book though is that the FL is not a b*tch in each arc, rather she supports them and adds to the humor and romance even more (she’s one of my favorite characters lol), she’s not annoying in the slightest and does not step over her bounds. She gets the endings which she deserves and I am a ok with that (Her ending in Arc 3 was my favorite).

ML

Now the other thing I see is people complaining about the overall relationship between ML and MC but in my opinion it isn’t that bad, cause I mean the ML hasn’t experienced real emotions in so long and then he finally found something that made him feel like having it, wouldn’t you do anything to get it? Coming from someone who has read a lot of f*cked up things it’s honestly not that bad as people make it out to be, I can at least over look it. Of course he could have done a better job at pursing MC, but it honestly adds to the ml’s character and it came out the way the author intended it to so no complaints from me.

MC

The MC is ok to me tbh I mean could’ve done a better job at writing him but it isn’t bad. He is naive when it come to emotions and ML pursing him. This character is a big contrast from what characters I usually enjoy reading about (aka smart and intelligent EQ mcs) but it doesn’t bother me cause him being a thing created is a part of his character. I think the author could’ve done a better job at writing that part but eh it’s over now nothing I can do. The MC isn’t that op but if the ML didn’t go off script MC could’ve definitely already reached a high ranking and each world would’ve gone smoothly.

Relationship

The Development between MC and ml’s romance isn’t love at first sight (at least for the MC lol) the MC does not immediately fall head over heals for ML which I enjoy it’s different. But there’s definitely some heated scenes here and there lots of spice dashed around. There was some spicy scenes I believe the smut scene was ch 60 or so.

Systems

I also love the interaction between the two systems, all I could think about while reading their dialogue is enemies to lovers lmao.

Overall Feelings

While reading this I won’t lie when I say I shed a few tears at the end of arc 3, It’s not a overall sad book I would say it’s more humorous it made me laugh a few times especially the reaction between the characters. I don’t think it’s emotionally deep and won’t make you feel like re thinking you whole life choices unlike (hds that s*it messed with me, omg that ending)

Summary

In conclusion if your looking for a outstanding story with full world building and characters this is not for you, but if your looking for a story to bide your time with and are craving some sweet dog food then your in the right place. If you don’t end up liking it oh well I am gonna leave some other world hopping recommendations you can go check them out, can’t guarantee you will like them but worth a shot.

Same as all the reviewers who mentioned this before. I've stopped reading it for well over 2 months and can't remember it too well so I'll be vague. ML is no longer being the main characters of the arcs therefore allowing MC to stand out more

I cried from laughter (and the occasional sad moment) when reading this novel. One of the best BL comedies I've read. The system has personality, the female leads aren't evil/two-faced, and the MC is capable though emotionally dense. The premise is simple:

Spoiler

MC gets sent to universes where his job is the Supporting Male Lead—a fate of loving the Female Lead from afar while supporting the romance of the Male Lead and Female Lead. Despite his best efforts, the MC fails his job in spectacular ways because the Male Lead has already fallen for him, and intends to follow him from universe to universe. (RIP MC's paycheck)

[collapse]

My thoughts on the ML:

Spoiler

Except for the end of the fourth arc, where I think his jump in intimacy with the MC borders on "Not okay/How old is our MC?/Is this legal?", I don't think he's a bad ML. He's honest but at the same time devilish. He does knowingly frustrate the MC's efforts in the second and third arc, but he takes responsibility for his actions and addresses the MC's grievances as best as he can.

I'm sure if he could take the MC to a cafe or the movies without getting the both of them erased by 'regulations', he'd pick that over making the MC fail at his job. That said, I can't wait for karma to kick in for the ML in the next arc hahahaha...

There are no revenge/dark storylines so far. Definitely recommend. <<less

I really enjoyed the first arc. But then it when everything from Arc 1 is repeating in Arc 2, I can't help but feel disappointment. I ended up dropping this series. I loved Quickly Wear the Face of a Devil and I'm looking for something similar. The only thing common between these two is the transmigrating part. I love power couples, not the naive innocent and especially never learning one. The MC strives to complete his mission but doesn't really think about his interaction with ML, which really annoys me.... more>> To be honest, his IQ is only average and EQ on the negatives -, -

Also ML is really rude and mean. He knows that MC is in a mission but still proceeds to ruin everything.

I hate the ML.

The first 1, 2, 3n4 arc is so good but then it plummets. No-matter how loving he is to the MC he's not considerate to MC's work at all. It's like he doesnt have morals at all a long as he gets MC even forcing himself on him. Very selfish and annoying to death.

I'm considering dropping this. This is the first time I leave this much of bad review.

The first arc was decent and after that it just gets progressively worse.

MC- EQ of a 3yr old and IQ of an average 13yr old. Putting it lightly he is pure unassuming and naive. His biggest pitfall was meeting the ML in his first ever task and unwittingly gaining his interest.

ML- I hate this dude. He's stressing me out ... more>>
Spoiler

The ML chases the MC through his task worlds and in each world his behaviour gets progressively creepier.

Forget derailing the plot and completely destroying any chance of the MC being able to complete his task successfully, he forces himself on MC. Starting with forced kisses and hugs it progresses into him blackmailing the MC to be in a s*xual relationship with him for the sake of saving his supporting ML task...

And considering MC is a new born while he's a very old and experienced task taker, this becomes even creepier and encroaches into g*ooming territories

[collapse]

MC's system: Idk why he keeps blaming the MC for failure of tasks. Forget that you yourself picked this naive kid while being fully aware of his 'predisposition', the biggest offender is almost always the ML! Go give him a dressing-down if you have the guts!!🙄

Romance: bah!! Honestly I don't find any. I only see an easily impressionable child being brainwashed into tolerating and then accepting a le*d old dude's advances.

Plot/world building: pretty average and cliche.

Translation is great. And for a change the FLs in the worlds they visit are actually normal people. Hence I'm giving it a 2⭐ <<less

The romance is bland. The MC is a Gary Stu and ends up breaking the CP in the stories they transmigrate into. The translation is great. It's just that the story is not gripping. As a matter of fact, I read this one arc at a time. Otherwise it becomes too boring. The ML's insta-love for the MC is explained in the later arcs but it comes across as creepy in the beginning. Overall an average story.

One of the better QT novels out there, especially the early half.

This one is a good contrast to QWFOD because the side characters are awesome! The 'love rivals' are generally good people, and it's so refreshing to read BL with non-misogynist, likable female characters. The set up for this story allows for more freedom with the plot & characterizations (since the MC isn't typecast into a vengeance role) so there's less repetition.

The arcs are pretty fun/awesome and super comedic, especially the misunderstandings between the MC and the ML from the... more>> beginning. There's a lot of character development and the ML has a bit of a mysterious past cliche, but I didn't mind it much.

I understand the POV of some reviewers mentioning that the ML bullies the MC and causes him a lot of trouble in the arcs. While I also dislike bully!MLs or overly dominant/oppressive!MLs, due to the MC's origins (which is a spoiler), the MC himself wasn't actually traumatized or emotionally hurt by the ML's actions, just annoyed at his 'strange' colleague. So it was acceptable.

However, later half of the story did start to get a bit annoying/repetitive because the ML kept his OP status too easily and was able to manipulate the MC into everything.

The last few arcs makes an attempt to address this issue and manage to restore a lot of the fun and interesting dynamics that had attracted me in the first place.

Overall, a solid 4, with the earlier arcs being very close to 5 for me.

Many thanks to the translators for their hard work. High re-read factor. <<less
