It’s Actually Not Easy Wanting to be a Supporting Male Lead

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

In this period where countless supporting lead actors always attempt to counterattack, turn over a new leaf or simply refuse to take up the role, his purpose of existing is to fill the role of a good supporting male lead and uphold his duty to the best of his ability. To add the needed lustre to storylines and this world. Only, it’s a pity that someone who is not afraid of god-like enemies will be afraid of pig-like teammates.

Bitterly, he realises that for some unfathomable reason, he is being bothered time and again by a bastard who refuses to follow the script… In order to walk the path of a good supporting male lead, he engages in a battle of wits and courage with that person. Loving each other and killing each other, one ultimately cannot escape fate’s teasing– why is it so difficult wanting to be a responsible and diligent supporting male lead?! QAQ

Still reading, will edit but tentative 5 for now.

honestly that first arc was off the charts amazing and I would have been totally ok if the entire story was the first arc. That said, I've enjoyed all that I've read so far. To clear up any misconceptions; here's no actual beastiality in arc 5, which honestly was my second favorite because it was the one that hammered in that wow ML has it DEEP for MC. if you're worried though, that world they basically just live as pet and devoted... more>> owner.

arc 5:

MC's a dog, ML a teacher and basically ML's so in love with MC it didn't matter to him what form he was in, he'll love him and be devoted to him anyways (emotionally). ML does google beastiality porn to show to MC, and says

"Everything I said just now is not to disrespect you, but I simply wanted to tell you... I want you very much. This desire cannot be restrained no matter how much I wish to. Even if you are a dog in this world, I still like you." A restless sigh escapes his lips. "I like you so much I even went and look up things I abhorred before, chaotic thoughts running through my mind like a pervert. I sincerely thought about killing you too. That way, I can put an end to my suffering and enter the next world quickly... "

also, this is not a snub at the second translator, she does a fabulous job and I appreciate her hard work. However, she keeps in all the endings (la, ba, ah) to the point where it gets a bit grating (ex: OK la. OK la.). It would be a much smoother read without it, but its a minor complaint. <<less

It was cute in the beginning ngl. The first 2 arcs were like aww look at MC and overbearing ML. The arcs don't end suddenly and each arc has its own twists and turns.

What bothered me was as time went on

MC was still focused on the task and not considerate of ML, so

it felt like MC had no feelings for ML??

(even though the author wrote that MC did). ML on the other hand kept finding ways for them to be together.

If you read you'll see that there is a system which was one of the reasons why MC refused to go off task. But at some point it just felt like MC was too naive, selfish, and inconsiderate, almost as if MC was just using ML like a white lotus character. ML on the other hand was very persistent and fairly OP and decisive.

The arcs were well-written and interesting (good translation too!) but the MCxML dynamic wasn't for me. As time went on their relationship became more and more off-balanced. <<less

First Arc: I CRIED. DID NOT EXPECT THIS DEVELOPMENT. Also laughed when the ML realized what happened.

Second Arc: Laughing cause the ML is chasing after supporting male lead. Sui Yuan and his System are confused. Hahaha... both the System and Female Lead called him an innocent child. He's dense and adorable af.

If you love Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil, you'll love this. The premise is very similar, but less ruthless by far. MC is a pure transmigrator that is trying really hard to adhere to the plot as the supporting character

while ML is also a transmigrator that chases him around through worlds and ruining all of MC's hardwork. ;DD

I'm super excited for more!

I love where this is going.

No I don't.

Change my mind, I really dislike the Male Lead. He is a selfish, rude, possessive as*hole who doesn't care about the feelings of the Main Character and basically forces things to go his way when MC is trying to do his job.
I really hate him.

I wish I could change the star rating. 2/5

Meh. Its great at first. The first volume and the second, then it just degrate from the third, mainly because of the ML. I mean come on, since you like the person then what you will think is not to cause them trouble, pain, stress etc. And do the opposite but all what the ML did to our MC is that. All of that. Urghh. Annoying twat. Urghhh. Its not even the level of a elementary notice me sempai kinda thing where you bully your crush. Urghh. AWESOME story! I'm so pumped up for the next arc that I feel like I'm running on adrenaline! Such twist, much wow! :3

Both the main characters are transmigrators and we only get to know this at the end of the arc. Goddamnit! Give me (and the ML) back my tears! QAQ]

While not having the most original premise the story has an engaging (if not a bit oblivious) protagonist with humorous banter between him and his system, but the main love interest is what drags down the story for me at least. He is selfish and inconsiderate to the point of coming off as more the villain that should be kept far away from the protagonist than someone we should be rooting for.

There's a one-sided misunderstanding after the first arc when Zhao Xihe (the love interest) learns Sui Yuan (the protagonist) is a fellow transmigrator and falls under the impression Sui Yuan had played him which is pretty dumb when you think about it since he had been playing a role and act out of character reduces their points to level up and potentially gain free will. How Zhao Xihe did not realize this is beyond me. Misinformed hate transforms into possessive infatuation because I honestly cannot call what's between these two love. Zhao Xihe for the rest of the arcs I've read up to abuses his free will to basically take advantage of Sui Yuan and screw him over redacting points from him as a supporting male lead.

If you're into possessive male leads than this has plenty of it. I still plan on keeping up with this since Sui Yuan and his system are fun to read about. <<less

The story is kind of cute. We have a dense MC who try his best to complete and follow the plot as supporting male. And the cold dominate ML who think he got play by our MC (MC is totally innocent he just doing his job lol).

Easy to forget, easy to get tired of it.

Saying this because I made more than one pause, while reading this. And when I got back it was hard for me to remember what happened before, except the main plotline of MC being something like AI/"creation" and ML following him after the first world.

What bothered me:

  • the whole beastiality thing, like f*ck no.
  • when the story insists that FY is a creation, so that's why he can't sympathize with people, treats worlds like a game etc. time and time again the novel repeats it. but isn't that denouncing the importance of all the characters the story tries to push on you so you'd feel invested? not to mention that the whole lacking emotion being told repeatedly makes the reader believe that and who wants to follow unemotional robotic MC? about lazy, MC doesn't get into plots and stays almost always on sidelines, while ML deals with everything. Example, quoting: "He was too lazy to deal with any superfluous matters, nor did he have any interest in them". This phrase appears more often when MC decides to rely on ML and not care. which makes me think... what is the point of those worlds then?
  • the strange relationship, which started from ML forcing MC. each arc he was the victim of a failed plot, because of ML he couldn't progress and this is wrapped into 'love' package? and only who knows how many arcs later and ONLY after MC was about to be obliterated, our ML remembers that he actually can adjust things, so it will comply with the plot. which paints the previous worlds with a tone of insensitivity. though who is surprised, after forcing MC and later chasing him, sometimes his thinking of only 'pa-pa-pa' is ridiculous and repulsive (like arc 5, MC is a dog, but that hound ML feels sorry he has to wait till next world to bed, or arc 11 MC is poisoned, but ML drinks vinegar instead). his constant wish for s*x doesn't remind me of love, but erectile dysfunction.
  • that is why it's hard for me to believe in their feelings. he resisted for so long, it felt like not love but that he had just given up. also MC is portrayed silly, but he sounds just stupid, his stupidity should sell meng, yet I can't buy it. but maybe because I like MCs who are not so indifferent to the world and bring something to the story I don't really see myself liking FY that much.
Thanks, but no thanks.

I cried from laughter (and the occasional sad moment) when reading this novel. One of the best BL comedies I've read. The system has personality, the female leads aren't evil/two-faced, and the MC is capable though emotionally dense. The premise is simple:

MC gets sent to universes where his job is the Supporting Male Lead—a fate of loving the Female Lead from afar while supporting the romance of the Male Lead and Female Lead. Despite his best efforts, the MC fails his job in spectacular ways because the Male Lead has already fallen for him, and intends to follow him from universe to universe. (RIP MC's paycheck)

My thoughts on the ML:

Except for the end of the fourth arc, where I think his jump in intimacy with the MC borders on "Not okay/How old is our MC?/Is this legal?", I don't think he's a bad ML. He's honest but at the same time devilish. He does knowingly frustrate the MC's efforts in the second and third arc, but he takes responsibility for his actions and addresses the MC's grievances as best as he can.

I'm sure if he could take the MC to a cafe or the movies without getting the both of them erased by 'regulations', he'd pick that over making the MC fail at his job. That said, I can't wait for karma to kick in for the ML in the next arc hahahaha...

There are no revenge/dark storylines so far. Definitely recommend. <<less

This was really fun to read. I understand a lot of readers are very annoyed at the ML right now, but what to do - this is what happens when you have a MC who is only interested in sticking to the script, and an ML playing the male lead destined to fall in love with the female lead having no interest in anyone else but the MC. This does change later on though, and the ML does acknowledge the MC's goals so he tries - emphasis on tries -... more>> not to mess up the script too much, but he always fails.

ML switches roles in order to mess up the script the least, and does things to preserve the plot to the best of his ability i.e. Not killing his love rival cause his love rival is the main lead just to please MC.

It's really very cute!

And the MC is dense, but not in the annoying kind of dense, but because he doesn't know what each action means, he just chooses to stick to the script to the best of his ability - even when sticking to the script doesn't make sense anymore, which makes his actions (which would have looked logical if the script had progressed normally) look completely irrational, and creates very funny situations

where people assume it's because he likes some random character.

It's hilarious!

Also, earlier arcs have the ML kinda but not really forcing himself on MC. Maybe more like creating situations to trap the MC in,

like in arc 4, 6 and 7.

to which the MC doesn't really have any opinion about, but it's not explicitly consensual - even if MC's only complaint is the wrecking of the script. Later arcs does show that the ML does respect the boundaries set by MC, even if they're so low they're almost non-existent, which is always a plus point. <<less

I love this novel so much! The MC is naive and adorable, while the ML is also so loveable!

Both reincarnate throught worlds with a system, but the ML has freedom while the MC doesn't. The ML learns this at the end of the first arc, but he already has fallen in love 💖💖💖

I honestly don't know how to rate this story. The first chapter, or first part is amazing and even gave me deja vu. It went downhill from there, and I had to stop reading at chapter 5, when the MC is reborn as a dog. I feel like I should have stopped when my instincts told me to, but I ended up reading most of that chapter.. (Cries). Even after this world is passed and he is human again, I don't want to keep reading since everything has been going... more>> steadily down hill towards a certain direction. I almost feel like the First world should be it's own small book, free of the brain shredding or bad influence from future reincarnations/worlds. <<less

It starts out so so good but then midway it turns trashy because of the ML being a complete uncaring selfish creep. Tonnes of dub con. The stories get better only when the MC is at the risk of losing his life due to the ML's fuvk ups. Yeah it's typical scum gong trope. Id rate this novel a 6/10. You'd have to have a huge amount of patience to not rage quit this novel midway.

Hatequit around arc 6.

Tags should include non-con with a chance of zoophilia.

It wasn't funny and it wasn't cute. I don't know what novel the other reviewers are reading, but it's not the same one I read. Well, the first arc or two were promising, but then it went weird and creepy real fast.

The romance makes no sense. The ML is a classic overpossessive yandere type and the MC is so not into the ML that the ML's active pursuit feels really creepy and wrong.

The ML chases the MC through the different worlds and in every world his behaviour gets more possessive and creepy.

At first it was just forced kisses and spending time with the MC despite his will. But then it turned into blackmailing the MC to be in a sexual "lovers" relationship with him or otherwise threatening to screw his supporting male lead job over.

And then, when the MC is a dog, he becomes his owner, threatens him again with castration and zoophilia etc, to stay with him bc he "loves him so much"............ No.

I'm assuming that they will turn this r*pe into a romance in the later arcs, but by arc 6 the MC was still very reluctant to be with the ML and def not in love.

Maybe just not my cup of tea at all, but I wouldn't recommend this novel to anyone. <<less

[Rating/Review might change as I'm in the process of reading this]

So far really enjoying the story! The arcs are pretty fun/awesome and super comedic, especially the misunderstandings between the MC and the ML from the beginning. There's a lot of character development and the ML has a bit of a mysterious past cliche, but I didn't mind it much. This one is a good contrast to QWFOD because the side characters are awesome! The 'love rivals' are generally good people, and it's so refreshing to read BL with non-misogynist,... more>> likable female characters. I think the set up for this story allows for more freedom with the plot & characterizations (since the MC isn't typecast into a vengeance role) so there's less repetition.

I understand the POV of some reviewers mentioning that the ML bullies the MC and causes him a lot of trouble in the arcs. I dislike bully!MLs or overly dominant/oppressive!MLs, but that's not the case so much in this story. Due to the MC's origins (which is a spoiler), the MC himself wasn't actually traumatized or emotionally hurt by the ML's actions, just annoyed at his 'strange' colleague.

The MC isn't too good with emotions or understanding people's feelings, which contributes to the way the ML has to act very extremely for the MC to even take notice of him.

The MC will eventually think about how he feels towards the ML without coercion and it's a really touching arc with a lot of things getting cleared up, and I think the MC also successfully gets revenge for some of the stuff the ML pulled in earlier arcs, haha.

Translation is fantastic, the flow of the story represented very well! High re-read factor. <<less

Same as all the reviewers who mentioned this before. I've stopped reading it for well over 2 months and can't remember it too well so I'll be vague. ML and MC doesnt have a healthy relationship even until this arc where I dropped off. ML would force things on MC to the point that MC has given up on trying to...I don't know, stop ML's harassment or something? Then further arcs have ML jealous of MC cause ... more>>

ML is no longer being the main characters of the arcs therefore allowing MC to stand out more

so they just make ML even more possessive.

I know the author has this plot twist or the ML's backstory to introduce that could make ML more likeable but I frankly don't think it'll make the relationship any better. <<less

Updated review:

Very fluffy and cute story. ML is indeed selfish and unbearable in the beginning and the romance is quite one-sided for about half the story. However, in the second half, much of the questions readers have are revealed. For example, just why did ML fall for MC so easily? ML also becomes much more caring and takes MC's wishes into account. MC also feels strongly towards ML and their interactions are at times very sweet and cute. Arc 15 (I know, very long wait) has a bit of a... more>> counter-attack in which you see the power dynamic shift a bit to our MC. Especially in arc 16 (which is very tit-for-tat between MC and ML. Pretty funny). There isn't much in terms of intrigue but there are overarching little mysteries and problems they tackle.

With that said, there are many flaws in this story. Consent is of course an issue, and their relationship is not healthy most of the time. It is a light-hearted read if you're looking for a good time and don't care about plot or substantial character development. <<less

Pretty good! It's funny how they actually make legendary BL romances everywhere they go, whether it's a BL world or a BG one LMAO even when all MC wants to do is hide hahaha

Characters: 3.7/5

Because of the premise, it feels like MC is too much of the naive white lotus that somehow makes everyone fall in love with him. Honestly I love these types of classic troupes, but I feel like his dimwittedness is still a little much. On the other side, ML is a little too possessive and inconsiderate.... more>> However, I quite like his character and feel it's totally understandable. He's lived through COUNTLESS lifetimes and hadn't cared for anything, but suddenly found a person he did care for; imagine what type of boring life he had lived before! A lot of commenters are complaining about his aggressiveness, but he really does genuinely care for MC, more than MC can even care for him. I do think it doesn't make MUCH sense that he liked MC so much, but oh well. I would've loved to see more flirting and teasing scenes that led to MC "falling in love", but it's fine anyway. I like that it's not really a "fell in love at first sight", but rather a gradual progression.

Side characters are also all decent. I'm especially happy that females aren't portrayed to be evil, as is the case in many BL romances for some reason.

Plot: 4.5/5

Definitely a plot-heavy novel, but lives up to it. Each world is explored quite well, and they all have their charms. The overarching plot of the Origin and setup of the "actors" is also starting to reveal itself, so I'm excited to learn more about that. I also like the epic (the technical definition) finishes of the novels, very in line with "legendary BL romances everywhere they go". The author is able to use the characters' deaths to tug at readers' heartstrings.

Writing & Translation: 5/5

The quality of the translation is very good, to the point that I'm pretty surprised. Especially in the early chapters, it really captures the "this is a legend" mood with eloquent writing and error-free translation.

Overall, not bad at all. As for genre, although it's yaoi there's only a feel scenes that are yaoi, and the rest is shounen ai. They're also very easily skipped. <<less

I hate the ML.

The first 1, 2, 3n4 arc is so good but then it plummets. No-matter how loving he is to the MC he's not considerate to MC's work at all. It's like he doesnt have morals at all a long as he gets MC even forcing himself on him. Very selfish and annoying to death.

I'm considering dropping this. This is the first time I leave this much of bad review.
