The Husky and His White Cat Shizun

Description

Mo Ran thought becoming Chu Wanning’s disciple was a mistake.

His shizun was really too much like a cat while he himself was a dumb pup who’d only slobber and wag his tail.

Dogs and cats were different by nature; originally, the dumb pup didn’t want to reach his furry paws out to that cat.

At first he thought, dogs should be with dogs, like his shixiong, beautiful and tame like a cute Japanese Spitz, and the two of them together would surely be a match made in heaven.

Yet, after having died and reborn, after having lived two lives, the one he hauled back each time to his den in the end was always the one he couldn’t stand at first: that snow-white kitty shizun.

This made me cry so much. Especially the last chapters when the revelations are made. I have never cried this much for a novel, had to take long gaps to recover but I glad I finished it. Totally recommend, both ML and MC are good people and other characters are great too. Read until the end, only then you'll know why its such an amazing BL Cant wait for the drama!!!

This novel really holds a special place in my heart. It was so captivating and intriguing; one hell of a rollercoaster ride (into hell and back), and it left me on the edge of my seat, gasping in distress and anguish. The amount of tears I've shed for this... good grief, I gave myself a headache and a bad case of stuffy nose over it. (I legit had to have a whole roll of toilet paper beside me)

I haven't read something so impactful, so riveting, in so long.... more>> I feel quite compelled to write a (non spoiler-ish) review for this.

I love Meatbun's descriptive way of writing. Her use of Chinese is quite simple and easy to follow along surprisingly; nothing too overly complex and not much difficult Chinese phrases/vocabs like (成語)

Yet despite this, she manages to convey intense and deep emotions so well, and her imagery portrayal is so vivid. I feel like I can actually see the scene unfolding before my eyes, feel the emotions radiating off the words, it's just so... tangible and immersive. She's absolutely amazing at capturing the atmosphere of her setting of the novel. I was worried initially about how she would manage to fit the different timelines into the story smoothly, but she executed it very well. Not to mention the astounding twists and turns it has; the tiniest thing you may have overlooked in earlier chapters will come back in full force later on. (One of the reasons why this also deserves a reread)

Then there's the angst, the slowburn, the pain, the misunderstandings and miscommunications.... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... it's just, heart-wrenchingly devastating, but damn, it's so good and so so worth it in the end. (Happy ending guaranteed!) Don't let the angst scare you too much though because there are some really sweet and funny scenes in there that make it all the more endearing and genuine.

Then comes the characters. Each character is so unique and their character development is so good, and her background stories for each of them are so well thought out. She brings out the human side to the antagonists, or villains. You cannot help but feel for them, what they've gone through, their reasons for doing what they did, and such. It really makes you think more about grey morality, and reflect on human nature in general. One that really speaks to me is that should one really jump to conclusions so quickly? I feel like that's a really common occurrence happening nowadays, with lots of people ending up accusing someone far too quickly and baselessly, and just how much harm it can cause to said party.

I started this novel in June and just finished the main plot a couple days ago. I started off with the English translations by Rynn (superb translations, please refer to their trans and shower them some love!) and because of my impatience, I went and read the raws. I read Chinese pretty slowly but thankfully, I can understand it well. (also thanks to Meatbun's relatively simple use of Chinese.) This novel gave me the drive and motivation to continue through with it and improve my Chinese.

My attention span is basically non-existent, and I have a bad habit of dropping off things halfway, so for something to really grab my attention for such a long time, for me to finish off something properly, is pretty rare. Now, I've only got the extras left!

Overall, 1000/10 would recommend. But one MUST pay heed to the warnings, for there is quite a lot of explicit content. Take care and don't force yourself to read it if you are uncomfortable with the warnings.

Now THIS is an emotional rollercoaster ride! I've been procrastinating to read this but when I did, it was worth it!

I personally enjoy the development of all the characters. The plot twists were also very very surprising! I kid you not,

when it was revealed that Ye Wangxi was a girl, I literally jumped out of bed in the middle of the night! LOL

Also, the 'villain' in this novel isn't really an annoying villain, unlike the other antagonists in other novels. I found myself empathizing with him because honestly, he has some points, and I understand that he does not have any other choice. When you read it, you'll see.

All in all, I recommend this novel to those who haven't read it yet. And if you already have this novel on your reading list, trust me, this is the sign for you to read it NOW!! It's all worth it! <<less

one hell of an emotion roller coaster ride!

i've read this novel after reading mxtx's and bruh, just like mxtx's, this is just one of the finest that i've ever read.

while reading, you'll feel like you're riding on a roller coaster but three times the emotions that you'll feel or no, way and even more than that.

I'm really hooked with the whole story and really suprised by the plot twists every single time - like there are some that I already have an idea but there are some that will just... more>> slap you in the face like you didn't expect for it to happen.

i've experienced a lot of emotions while reading, I got angry, hurt and cried a lot, but I also felt the fluffiness, love and happiness in the end.

i also really love ranwan, their love for each other is deeply rooted within their core that no matter what are things that they'll go or have went through, they manage to overcome all of it and be with each other at last. ♡ <<less

I love this novel!

This novel literally took my breath away. When I started this novel, I thought that it will be a funny and silly story because it was named the 'husky and his white cat shizun' I hadn't even read the tags.

How wrong I was...! It literally takes you on a rollercoaster ride. As you read, you will sympathize with the characters. Every character was beautifully fleshed out. The plot, angst, romance is on point!

I would like to give this novel 10/10.. !

Rating : 5/5 for a emotional rollercoaster

okay wtf I mean?? I remember I cried a lot when I read the first part I guess till 120 or so chapters but I was literally weeping.

while reading the 2nd half... at one point I thought this novel might have a bad ending but after that huge rollercoaster ride it's all sweet sweet.

there are so many mysteries like I was continuously reading this without sleeping and well small breaks to eat (bc gore uhhh and I'd be embarrassed to cry in front of... more>> my fam lol)

I was addicted to it. smh idk what to do now that I have finished reading it. crisis oof

About the story

  • I don't want to say much the setting etc it has normal cultivation background but like I said there are so many secrets like until the end. I was shocked.
  • The DETAILS / meanings of those small small things!! it was kinda sweet. chilli wontons, brocade pouch, sweets, handkerchief, and haitang blossoms everything was so sweet.
Characters :

  1. Mo Ran - istg I was angry at this dumb fellow but he is very pitiful I felt sad for him. There's so much character development I loved it.
  2. Chu Wanning - he's the sweetest. Cold but soft from inside feels AWKWARD to talk about himself and then gets angry lmao. I love him he's so strong
  3. Xue Mengmeng - hehe er he felt lonely and that's pitiful. He's so sweet and dumb lmao
  4. Shi Mei - I'm gonna be honest I don't really like him. Even in the beginning I guess 1st few chapters.. the way he forgave those bad guys was just a wtf moment// like how can one be so kind? it was doubtful I didn't like it. There's a character development tho and that's nice but still he's not my fav.
  5. Mei Hanxue - a flirt//cold. sweet talks with every girl/women there's no age limit. lol but he's a cute character.
  6. Ye wangxi - actually scratch cwn and mr Ye wangxi is my FAVOURITE Character. Strong, fierce, intelligent and independent.

The undertones are dark but the humour lifted each chapter up to balance it out. Pacing is great. Characterization is sound, though can be a little too caricaturish at parts. Enjoying it very muchhhhhhhhh.

I didn't know I could get addicted to reading this. I've already reread this like three times. The world building is amazing and the pacing was really really great.

At the start of the novel you'll feel that the MC (seme) is really hateful and just plain evil but damn by the end of a hundred chapters, I've already become a Mo Ran apologist. The chemistry of the characters are really nice and really well-balanced. Smut is there but it doesn't get all over the place. You get some car... more>> keys every now and then which keeps the story spicy that'll leave you wanting for more.

10/10 really. My heart is full. <<less

Others have already singing praises to this story. I just wanna say be patient with the MC. At the first 88 or so chapters he might seems to have bad characters and the misunderstandings sure is frustrating.. But once you found out the reason why.. You would feel heartbroken for the MC (granted the truth only unveiled in later chapters probably around chapter 270+).

And pay attention to the tag, there is r*pe tag. It happened only in the past life (flashback) and there is clear warning tag before the triggering... more>> scenes so you can skip it if you choose so.

And lastly, so exstactic to hear that this will be adapted into live action. I hear it's a big budgeted project by tencent with promising young actors as the leads. I hope they do this novel justice. <<less

A novel that maybe goes a little over the top for shock value but still entertaining. The protagonist/ seme is interesting but quite dumb. I really didn't like the love interest/ uke at first he seemed like such an abusive character with a short temper, (one has to wonder why in the world he became a teacher) at least he grows on you later. I would have given it a higher rating but the over the top angst was kinda draining tbh

Almost drop it cause of MC but I endure it anyway as the story become more interesting and there is so much mystery and plot twist.

It less focused on cultivation and more on character growth. I love how MC and ML started as unlikable but then help each other grow. And not only that, the plot and side characters also contribute in their growth and solve their misunderstanding

I really love that in this story both romance and plot are equally written well. There's no obvious disbalance, it's both interesting and it makes one feel a hurricane of feelings. Meatbun has evoked emotions by words in my soul, and I'm extremely grateful to her for this.

Perhaps, for me this novel is the best danmei I've read so far.

mixed bag of feels.. My heart was torn, mended and torn assunder. So much humanity is maddening! Like, you can easily find at least one moment described in this novel in your real life: from wishing a parental figure in your life recognises your effort, low selfsteem, silently helping people only to be left behind, trusting the wrong people, being let down by people you love, being friendzoned, etc. Its so much drama I think each arc could make its own soap opera.

MC bleak view of the world is simple..... more>> Like a dog, he will like anyone who feeds him and show him kindness first. Which comes around to bite him in the arse later, when he finds out the person who has been feeding him and showing kindness was actually the ml, who he hated to the point of madness, he gets to cash in a fat reality check.. His black/white view is kinda agravating in an angsty way, he doesn't underestimate human nature, but is so pessimistic about it, I really dunno how I feel about MC. He admits his wrongs at some point, but by then I already disliked his guts.

ML will provoke motherly instincs, so prepare for that.

anyways so far my score is 4.9/5

translation: 5 (long chapters and a cultivation novel.. The translator is a wizard)

world building: 5 (despite the whacky timeline, when you get fond of the world, you know it)

characters: 5 (so many characters for the sake of suffering, if you dont apreciate their noble sacrifices, you dont have a heart)

romance: 4 (-1 for MC and ML being a pair of dumbasses and making me suffer)

plot: 4.5 (- 0.5 for the cliches.. Like master/student stuff. Also, emotion driven plot, its only purpose is to harm your kidneys, drink lots of water next!) <<less
