This was an amazing novel, but extremely exhausting to read. There was virtually no break at all from the angst, because there's a LOT to unpack.

If you're wondering, the trigger warnings do apply to the main couple (Mo Ran/Chu Wanning) so if you're uncomfortable by the tags I'd suggest you turn away from this novel.

This novel is a roller coaster of heartwrenching, fluffy and maddening moments. The story, world-building, and characters are detailed and interesting.

I just finished reading this novel, and I absolutely love it. The characters are so lovable and their character development is so wonderfully written. As you read, you can easily go from hating a character to loving them whole heartedly.
This story at first just seems like another typical rebirth and "having a second chance to make things right" story, but it have a lot of hidden knives that are ready to attack. As many may know, this story is quite well known for their angst, and one of the thing I appreciate most from meatbun is that she don't throw in sad scenes just for the sake of adding angst, but the angst that are in the story actually plays a role to the plot. I also very much enjoy the philosophy that this series have; for example, what is right and what is wrong, or is there really a such thing as black and white.

There are many more things I want to praise about this series, but I don't really want to go into spoilers territory, and I honestly can't form proper sentences on how to give this series the praise it deserves. All I can say is, if you haven't read 2HA yet, please go read it.

I've never seen such a selfish and self righteous MC like him before. All the other horrible MCs can't amount to him. Poor ML deserves someone better. Someone so much better. Like maybe Xue Meng. So far, it's great!!! I like the plotline. The MC and ML are interesting characters. At first, I didn't understand why the MC was so difficult and against the ML. As you read on, you find out slowly why and mystery unfold. Mo Ran is a very difficult character---he can be black and white, and gray. This was the first ever novel I've read and to top it off, I MTL'd it. However, the plot was still relatively easy to understand. I decided to stop reading it before the plot becomes too complicated for MTL and wait for Seven Seas' licensing to catch up (because at the time I read this, Seven Seas only had Vol 1 published).

This novel is *not* for the soft heart; there are topics that are so grotesque and very complicated. There is a LOT of internal conflict for Mo Ran (who is the protagonist of the novel, and whose POV it's mainly centered on) and a great deal of angst. I've already deemed meatbun as a torturer of her characters, but in the end it actually carries the danmei world. However, I think that 2ha is very overrated, but it's a great novel to delve into if you're into novels where the protagonist is the top/seme/gong.

The novel centers around the trope of a master-disciple relationship, where the disciple is the top and the master the bottom. It starts off very toxic and from the perspective of Mo Ran and his dislike of his master, Chu WanNing. It involves two parallel universes and the process of redeeming oneself and finding true love through their struggles, suffering, and devotion. This is a novel where I cried for two hours and is not something I would reread because it's torture for the reader! <<less

Do not get fooled by the title and description, this story is by no means light-hearted as it might come off. I have recently attempted to read this story for 2nd try but I have only realized that this story is just too angsty for my tastes.

The beginning caught my interests but as the story progresses more, the relationship between MC and ML gets more stiffening. There's Chu Wanning with stoic kuudere personality and then Mo Ran who wears his heart on his sleeve and his hot headed decision making.... more>> Now add miscommunication and voilà - it all causes misunderstandings sigh

The problem is that all that misunderstanding grows over 100 chapters - and as I read a few spoilers - I knew my poor heart wouldn't be able to handle all that upcoming angst. Of course, we also get some endearing scenes between MC and ML but it can get draining as well with both of them being in hard denial.

I won't come back to the novel but I might still follow Chu Wanning's and Mo Ran's story through manhua. If you aren't weak hearted against character suffering like me, I think it's worth giving a try. <<less

I liked this novel a lot and there were many parts that had me whipping a few tear. In my opinion it was really well written and the author mad a point not no make any details unnecessary. Everything has meaning and the whole story comes full circle.

For the negative reviews: I’ll say that if you have not read the full story please don’t leave a review for this one because it really is one where you have to read it all to understand the characters.

It’s def something that I try to filter out of my searches but I’ve just come to terms with it being a large part of the yaoi genre. Three books: 311 chapters (and I didn’t count the extras) equals a thousand something bed scenes (), seriously...

The truth is that this book was not at all what I expected, I imagined a somewhat more typical story of the xianxia-danmei genre. The first book throws us into the life of the great Emperor of the world of cultivation, or rather into what remains of it. From there, with his reincarnation, the story begins to get more and more interesting, because honestly, the protagonist you take affection from the beginning... more>> (and that has sins to fill a life). On the contrary, the second book has slower parts, interesting things happen but there are chapters that feel like real soap opera stuffing.

Here you already have more than clear who can be the "puppeteer" of everything that happened in both lives, although not for this reason you lose interest in history, which has several surprises facing the third and last book.

Undoubtedly the best of the whole story, apart from some very funny moments and some to cry, are its protagonists with interesting and contrary personalities. Without forgetting the secondary characters (too many Chinese names ಥಥ), of which, at least I wanted to know even more about their lives because none of them were figurative. Rather, the stories of these characters are an important part of the plot and each with more secrets than the last.

As I roll up, to finish, it will not become one of my favorite novels within this theme but if I think it is worth giving it a reading, despite how long it is, it does not disappoint. <<less

Ahhh very good novel that left me with strong impressions. However, there were two big issues I had with the plot. Actually three but I'll not state the third since it might be caused by the MTL translation. Yes, the novel was that good that I was desperate enough to MTL to finish it off.
