This is what Gourmet Food Supplier should have been.

Takes the Modern Setting of GFS, but adds actual "Cooking" and goes way more into detail on the specifics of cooking while introducing logical conflicts and actually funny beats. And has some aspects of Gourmet of Another World sprinkled in.

The main character is simply not as good as GOAW Bu Feng or the other gourmet main characters. He’s a spineless, arrogant, and altogether fluctuating character that at points will worry about his self-image over people he “supposedly” cares about. He’s got the super broken Girl Spirit Gluttony Test Fairy to help him be overpowered but spends most of the opening chapters (150) whining about it. He’s lazy because the author doesn’t want to write a Main Character that actively does stuff. Novel is mostly MC being bossed around or... more>> being forced to do things by people he could handle. He doesn’t even manage to conquer his own spirit pet with his crummy cooking and has to rely on the Spirit Fairy to do it. No, this is not a cooking novel. As it goes in the book, cooking is 40% Ingredients, 40% Cultivation base, and 0 % effort. It’s phrased differently with a proper 4-4-2 ratio but this is how the author makes it. MC steamrolls all the famous chefs by adding a tiny bit of Xianli (Qi) to his food to make it infinitely better than any good chef. You see, there’s no such thing as a good chef making bad food taste good. It’s just all “Garbage.” Besides this, our MC easily becomes a mu*derous like cultivator and doesn’t ever seem to realize how wealthy he is, continually mooching off friends. I get that he’s lazy but having him sometimes just give people money and sometimes not is rather unconvincing. Novel gets worse whenever cultivation is involved
Spoiler

with MC becoming a sect leader and then effortlessly leading them to victory as he watches all the other sects pointlessly self destruct.

[collapse]
MC is never is danger and there is no credible threat to his life until he finally leaves Earth and then it’s just horrible cultivation stories. This author couldn’t write a fight to save the Mc’s life. No satisfying face slapping all novel long (though there is face slapping) and no sense that the MC ever matures.

All in all it’s a disappointing mess. Read God of Cooking or Gourmet from Another World instead and save yourself this mess. <<less
