There is a very strange restaurant in the City of Sin.

Elves and dwarves must share a table, orcs are strangely well behaved, dragons are only welcomed on the small square in front of the restaurant, and the demons must bring their own stool.

This strange restaurant with their strange rules continuous to attract a long line of customers.

“This place serves the best food! The chef of this restaurant is a genius!” Some of the guests in the restaurant left glowing reviews. But these guests have a word of warning for other guests, “No matter what you do, never, never attempt to kidnap the boss or try to ‘eat and run’. You will die.”

A cute little girl stood near the door, and demanded in her tiny voice, “You have eaten the food, now pay up, or I will beat you to death.” The five-meter tall dragon suddenly felt a chill running up its spine.

I was fed up after reading so many xuanhuan and xianxia novels. I wanted to read something new so I tried to read other novels and finally found some novels based on romance, history and food.

This novel is so far good although there are some chapters which irritate me but the story is enjoyable and worth to read.

I thanks to previous translator from *Kitchen & Novel* and I hope *WebNovel* will soon update after Chapter 173 :-)

It is acceptable. But as some people have pointed out this is a very slow paced novel. Typically when I have time I'll binge read all day, but I was sick of this by chapter 70. Not because the writing itself is awful, the characters are unbearable, or anything like that...

Imagine a slice of life story like Chii's Sweet Home, Yotsubato, or some thing like that. Now tar it with awkward jokes. Take the cute character and make her a little bit malicious and a little bit spoiled (just enough... more>> to make you raise an eyebrow). And the protagonist is just so 'meh.' Neither his background on Earth as a trust fund a***ole food critic nor his otherworld background as a crippled legendary warrior matter as of chapter 105. And he is not even a real chef. The cooking is completely behind the scenes to the point that it is easier to look at Mike the MC as a vending machine. Insert 600 coins get fried rice.

There is a random cooking system (which has more personality than most), but why does it want to make the main character into a God of Cookery? There is a whole town we've barely explored. There are characters that do little more than eat and leave, maybe dropping a few nice bits of world building exposition. There's magic, math, history, and ongoing battles, but we've yet to see how the affect the characters. There is a "isekai restaurant" vibe going on, but it is like a second rate version compared to the Japanese web/light novels.

Since the story fails at the slice-of-life idyllic pace, the reader can only look towards the tradition conflict-climax-resolution formula for entertainment. However, we're still at the exposition phase.

The story has built up spotty foundation, but what it does with that foundation is still up in the air. But honestly, I think it is leaning more towards a "flop." <<less

I dont get why people gives 1 star when it cute, adorable, it Novel is like Gourment In Another World & Gourment Food Supplier in tern of story lines of system,

Spoiler

This novel the system is super miser, you can buy things, but only if you can afford, the prices MC buy can be consulted, it has intellengence growth, it even tries to pit MC for more money,

MC more kinder than other 2 novel mention above, but restaurant still have rules, it a magic world instead of culivation or earth. Meg Alex has a past, & MC is reincarnated, MC past was a rich 2nd generation, he a food critics that has a poison tongue. He drowned to death before he reincarnated. The system is like a torture since it forces him to make food that to the standard of his food critics of his past. The food he makes has different types of effect for each type of dish,

Half race in this world is look down on,

If I were to say the best part of this story is MC daughter, she cute, poison tongue, mischievous, gives others nicknames that sound bad, MC tries his best to give everything he can for her like cook her food, new dress & clothing daily, toys & etc, even closed a day just to spend time with her. The former or real father of her who died ignored her due to ashamed, but is kinda stupid due to his pride of not renting the first floor of his building, when he could have used it to support his daughter.

[collapse]

Major spoiler below

Spoiler

There a background of story of MC of the former Meg Alex is a level 10 warrior, so far there clues leading to who the suspect who attacked him, (but I won't tell who, but it just mostly known as MC slayed dragons & he famous, his wife is a elf princess,

there 2 level 10 wizards who became his daughter teacher, they famous for being powerful & for being rivals & represent the start of fire & ice teams.

2 stars. I really like the idea but the execution is horrible.

The pacing is terribly slow. Eleven chapters, ELEVEN chapters and the restaurant isn't even open. Read the description. That is the story I expect to read. And what the story is so far? The restaurant still closed. F**k!!!

The food description is terrible. Like, read this:

"Michael also placed a spoonful of fried rice into his mouth. The soft, tender egg favor was infused into the slightly harder rice, creating a perfect harmony. As well, the taste of various ingredients constantly... more>> bombarded his taste buds."

Terribly generic!

And the characters... Oh God! The characterization is horrible. It is as generic as the food descriptions. With have this two characters so far: a girl and the MC. The cute lovely girl that is just that! Cute lovely girl without actual character. The MC is generic and bland! He is more like a setup than a character.

And the writing is so weak. Descriptions are so generic. Prose are often very vague. Dialogue feels so forced and stilted. It just not pleasant to read.

*****

This is so poorly written without any skill. An average fan fiction has more finesse than this.

At the least, the ideas are fine, but the writing just takes away anything good about it. <<less

Alright, I'm stating this first; I read in Chinese and I'm just a by-passer that is free to comment.

Alright, a simple summary would be a food critic that was reborn in a fantasy world and forced to open a restaurant and make food while taking into the fact of how he commented on the food in his past. He gets a system, daughter and the body that he reincarnated in is an ex-general that was crippled due to somebody being jealous of him.

Spoiler

His wife is the elf princess of sorts, I forgot since I last read it years ago. Well yeah, beautiful and all that made people envy the MC's predecessor and he got crippled and live while hiding with his daughter while his wife is grounded. Then, MC comes into the scene.

[collapse]

Alright, before I go for the better parts, I'll state the bad parts of this novel first.

  1. This is a Chinese novel and you should know most of them are long so it will be a slow buildup. Thus, I recommend those that had a short-fuse to wait for a long long time before you start reading as I know there is gap in the time between the translation from Chinese to English.
  2. This is a novel that focuses on cooking, slice of life and action, cooking for most part. Thus, be prepared to just skip over the taste descriptions, you know what I mean. You could choose not to do so, but don't blame me if you end up roasting yourself.
  3. Again, this is a Chinese novel and Qidian gives out payment based on the number of chapters they write, you see? Don't blame it for being long winded because... Cough, you know the meaning. This is actually lots better than those other that I know.
Enough of the dark sides. Alright, now is the time for the bright side of the novel then.

Spoiler
  1. This MC at least has his own personality and he actually grows compared to other gourmet type Chinese novel I read before. Like Gourmet of Another World, Gourmet Food Supplier, Weird Chef. Alright, Weird Chef is not translated into English as far as I know and it's a really OLD one that I remembered and still like even after more than 7 years.
  2. Then, this novel got the cute mascot, the daughter. Sometimes, you might just treat this novel as a new type; having two MC instead, haha.
  3. Only after hundreds of chapters, the story actually starts to unfold and it is going in a good direction. The world is starting to unravel itself and more important characters are introduced; mostly those that are acquainted with the MC's original body. Then, we get to see the plot starts to thicken but still balanced well within the core genre; cooking, slice of life and action.
  4. The characters are not used and thrown away. Those that seem to be useless and provide comedy at first are then slowly brought up to front. This author knows how to recycle and reuse. Yup.
    [collapse]
So, what should I say? Hmm....

Yup, I would suggest those that are interested to wait longer until the English translation goes up. Then, just skip the taste descriptions that are repetitive. Don't blame the author for being long winded and all, blame Qidian. This book is actually not that bad at all. Give it a chance and try it out. <<less

The writing is solid, the plot has an interesting twist to it, that makes it unique and worth while to read.

Once this gets past the standard content barrier requirements most people will enjoy this.

For now there are a lot of stories to read out there but I would bookmark this and comeback if this ever gets enough content.

The current TL does a good job in terms of quality.

An incredibly light hearted story about a reincarnated father and his cute daughter. The story itself doesn't have much conflict, except for arguments between customers about which food is better. Which makes the story sound like it'd be bland, but it's the opposite. The little daughter Amy is incredibly adorable and moves every scene forward. Their will be a serious few paragraphs that makes it seem like something will happen and then Amy will diffuse the situation adorably with a sharp wit and sharper tongue. Almost like a su**er punch... more>> of humor in a way. I can't count the amount of times I've laughed out loud at her antics.

I've read a couple of chef type stories, and they always seem to have some kind of skill or shop or something or another to assist them. This is potentially the first time I've read a story where the chef has a [system] with a very interesting personality. They actually negotiate with one another on a regular basis and try to one up eachother to get the better hand. It's actually really well done and sometimes the system wins, and sometimes the MC wins.

All and all, it's a super fun read but a slow build up. I'd really recommend reading up to at least chapter 50 before starting to make an opinion. Alot of the beginning chapters are setting up the scenes for later events. So far, every character ever introduced has some part in the story, no one is truly a fluff one off character. <<less

Now that a few chapters have piled up, I'm confident in giving this an accurate review.

This novel is fluff. Pure fluff. For all ye who wish to be good father's one day, this story will feed that urge. The daughter is quite cute, but I can see why this story would be rated so poorly.

The first reason being the premise. The reason for his transmigration is quite weak, and the MC just accepts that he has a cute daughter now rather easily. The reason for his 'system' coming into existence... more>> is pretty lame as well, but it could just pass for a dull joke.

The second is the system itself. Yes, we have stories where the MC is given everything at the beginning, and thats what seems to be the case here. So long as the MC has the gold, he can buy anything and I mean anything. Apparently, you can buy instant knowledge for trivial things like hair tying as well.

The third is probably what is the deal breaker for a lot of people. The food. I would imagine that most people would click on this story looking for some delicious food p***, but the descriptions are merely average while the pace of new dishes comes out real slowly. It is only at chapter 50 that the second dish comes out. Now don't get me wrong, the pacing is fine as is for a slice of life story, but I don't think most readers came here for a slice of life story.

Despite all that, the MC does have more of a personality compared to normal MC's and his interactions with his daughter and system are enjoyable to read about. Although there are many things that I wish to be improved, that won't stop me from following this story in the near future. <<less

If you are expecting good food novel go check food supplier and gourmet in another world... if you are expecting nice fantasy story then you should read this novel... the writer is very bad in describing tasty food but succeeded in writing a good story make you want to know what happen next... it's rare to find chinese novels where the levels powers aren't exaggerated and where the protogonists and his enemys are constantly upgrading (dbz plot).. the way the writer treated this novel in power balance is much better... more>> than others keeping it bit real... the problem with the strory is it has been stretched causing bit lack of content. and undecided writer about harem/one wife.. <<less

It's an ok novel, if you've read one cooking novel then you've read them all usually since they have a system 90% of the time.

Not much has been shown even though we are 96 chapters in since the pacing is really slow, even for a Chinese novel. Now I could understand if you want to fill out the world and such hence the pace would be slow yet this is filled with unnecessary words to fill the chapter.

Quite similar to godly stay home dad. Its an amazing slice of life novel and soo fluffy.

Not giving 5 stars because while reading this godly stay home dad comes into mind and I don't get the feel which got reading the other novel but don't get me wrong it's an amazing story.

Just the system isn't systematic and I just don't see any food p***. I just don't get the complete satisfaction while I read this

Read this, not Gourmet Food Supplier.

Let's get the negatives out of the way: Slow burn, jumping plotlines, and you can probably read every other chapter and still get the plot.

Classic Face-slapping protagonist, but now with a cute daughter he has to take care of. This immediately changes the character dynamic and enriches the inherent interactions. There are some flashes of Uchi Musume here and there, but more often than not it's closer to Heavenly Star with more surface level relations, and cuter funny moments.

But that's standard. We all know that... more>> this is what a Chinese Webnovel is about.

It's the Banter and the Worldbuilding that grabs you and keeps you there. Ever wanted to read a story that's basically a Snark-a-thon and where the High-And-Mighty MC gets to head-desk thanks to an uncooperative System? Ever want to see a snarky MC also eat sh*t from his family and the System or even general circumstance? Ever want to see face-slapping done by itty-bitty children? All set in a fantasy world with intrigue and an MC that basically has Amnesia but has to pretend he know's what's going on?

If you said Yes to all of those questions, Bad news - this story gets 80% of the way there but then fails to deliver on the whole package. But if you're desperate for this kind of story, or are ok with not having the ideal exemplar of such ideas, this is a VERY fun story to follow. However, I suggest binging on this story, and not following chapter by chapter, as the chapters are extremely short and it has the traditional face-slapping novel problem of taking forever to "Savor" each scene.

Also, the RAW updates 2 chapters ata time, so really reading one chapter at a time is pretty excruciating.

This is closer to I'm Really a Superstar in tone, but sometimes you can sort of see glimpses of God of Music, if you get what I mean.

Also: Props to the translator Prosperous Food Translations - they actively are adding to the experience and are a GREAT resource for people not knowing the details of the recipes or Chinese food and culture. I highly recommend their translation, as their notes give so much more context for the non-Chinese. <<less

It's basically a clone of all the other "Cooking Mastery" type Chinese novels that have been popping up. While the food being cooked is slightly different, they all basically follow the same tropes. What I like about this series over the others is the addition of the daughter, it adds a cuteness that was missing from the rather bland and blunt personalities initially found in the other cooking novels. The skills that the cook picks up are given a rather blunt plot armor with a temporal warping training space, but... more>> other than that it follows about the same as the others (you can find these others in the recommended novels listing in regards to this series).

Another bonus to this story is that there is an actual story and reason behind why the System is taking control of this person's life instead of just suddenly popping into his life for no reason, so that's a nice little bonus.

Translation quality is nice, release pace is fairly good, and the story quality is decent, which means that this story far outplaces the progenitors of this overused plot. <<less

The story is nice. Some people would say A bit slow, but as far as the story is going it really isn't. For now it's a slice of life story, so don't go expecting young Masters and such popping every which way. Compared to the other similar stories, the MC here has more personality than your average cardboard MC. He comes with an adorable OP daughter as a bouncer. The system starts off the same with the other stories but slowly coming to life. Give it a read if you're... more>> interested in foodgasm stories with a side of fluff. <<less

Actually read it now, I'm a total re****. But yeah... despite the dark backstory of the MC, the novel up to this point's been very light-hearted and cute. No "OP MCs going around messing with noble family this and that" template is always a bonus for me :3
