Hero Zhang Han was frustrated in life originally, but he stepped into the Cultivation World by a stroke of luck. Possessing divine natural gifts, he ascended into the disaster-crossing period step by step. He had imagined his life would not have any hardships anymore, but unfortunately incurred the god thunder since he violated the fate. After he woke up, he was surprised to find that he was reborn, going back a few years ago. He found that the world was different from what it used to be after his rebirth and he had a lovely daughter.

Zhang Han’s fate thus underwent a huge transformation. In the fast-paced urban life, he opened up a place for his daughter to have fun. Because of his daughter’s enthusiasm for food, he opened a restaurant, which attracted countless diners. His business was booming and money did roll in. In his spare time, he also wrote songs to earn extra income. At the same time, he performed a sweet love story with his daughter’s mother…

After his rebirth, he became a godly stay-home dad in the accumulation of experience. “Dote on my daughter and love my daughter” became his life creed. Although a few nasty guys occasionally appeared in his life, they were all beaten off by virtue of his mightiness.

Let’s take a look at how this godly stay-home dad lived in the city and how Zhang Han led his happy life.

(Edit: Not the translator anymore after some issues but my review still stands. ^^)

Hello, I'm the translator of this novel. This novel is currently the best '奶爸', aka 'stay-home dad' novel I have read in my opinion. I'm not really good at giving a review but I will try.

The starting of the novel is quite bad in my opinion as it gives the readers the opinion of "Oh... another cliche young master beating up other arrogant young masters continuously, going around raising his cultivation to get to the... more>> peak of cultivation kind of novel." But this is not the kind of novel that it is.

Rather, this is sort of a slice of life focused novel in my opinion and is not, I repeat, NOT an action-focused novel.

However, do give this novel up to at least chapter 30~

The novel starts to get good around ch30 in my opinion and gets really good from ch150 onwards.

And for a bonus, the MC is actually mature and not childish for someone who has lived for over 500 hundred years, unlike other novels where it was pointed that the MC was over a thousand-year-old but act like some teenager hitting puberty.

Even in the raw, many people also felt that the start of the novel was really bad and cliche and in the later chapters was where the novel starts to shine.

Spoiler

Around the part when Zhang Han opened a restaurant and accepted a gorilla into his land is where it starts to get good in my opinion. Also, this novel is a blend of everything. There is romance, action, family, cooking, music, and other stuff. Although it is a slice of life focused sort of novel, the author managed to put all the other elements into the novel without making the story bad, and instead actually makes the story get better and better.

[collapse]

Also, after reading the reviews of others, I want to point out that this novel is not a racist and 'China number 1' sort of novel. Apart from the start where Zhang Han changed his daughter name to a Chinese name that has his surname, where others would feel that it was racist, there is really no racism at all in the rest of the novel from what I can recall.
Spoiler

It has to be noted that both Zhang Han and Zi Yan, the father and mother of Meng Meng are from China. Zi Yan is not a foreign. Also, I'm not sure about other countries, but if you came from a big, powerful Chinese family (家族), I think that it was a must to take the surname of your family and a Chinese name or else you would be shaming your family.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Adding on, later on, a foreign (side character) is even introduced and there is really no racism but story flow that makes one smile.

[collapse]

Overall, there may be some flaws in the novel, but do wait until there are more translated chapters. I assure that the novel will definitely be enjoyable for most readers during the chapters later on.

I would give this novel a 4 or 4.5 star out of 5. But since I'm the translator of this novel, I will be biased and give it a 5. ^^ <<less

The plot of the story is not bad and quite enjoyable as long as you don't take things too seriously. I have minor problems with the MC's personality but not enough to turn me away from the novel. I would give this novel higher but the translation quality drops the moment you start reading from the other site TapRead. Seems like they don't edit their chapters as there are a lot of pronouns being messed up, "him" and "her" etc. Which really breaks the flow when reading. Xianovel was doing... more>> a good job before TapRead came along *sigh*. I can't really recommend this novel to be read just due to the poor quality of the translation.

Edit: The translation quality has gotten a lot better. Not a bad read at all

Edit 2: So Tapread has introduced a premium novel service like Webnovel where you need to unlock the chapter using spirit stones or coins in this case. Unfortunately, this novel is not worth the premium tier as the novel still seems to struggle with proofreading and has grammar problems which really break the flow of the novel. I still suggest you check this but something to keep in mind. <<less

Have read a bit of the raws. 3.5/5 for me. The MC here isn't as bad as those in your typical cultivation novels. But he isn't much better, either.

The author, while trying to depict the differences in perspective between a cultivator and ordinary people, unfortunately isn't able to avoid making the MC seem like a snob.
Spoiler

MC just used to be an incompetent, down-on-luck young master before he got really lucky. What's he got to be so arrogant about? To make things even worse, he is trying to inculcate the same attitude into his young daughter.

I remember a scene where the MC admonishes his daughter for calling her (well-intentioned) caretaker names. He impresses upon her the need to respect her well-wishers- a very heartwarming scene, indeed, of a father instilling values into his child. But then, he just had to add, "Even if they are just ants" (or something to that effect). It makes me wonder: What exactly did the daughter learn from this?

As for the name-changing thing that other reviewers have mentioned, while I can somewhat understand wanting to give one's child a native name as a tribute to one's cultural heritage/ancestry, what I don't understand is his selfishness of wanting his daughter to have both his surname as well as a given name of his choosing. Doesn't the mother (who carried her for nine months and raised her, putting her career on hold) get the right to a part of the daughter's full name? He even manipulates the daughter into rejecting the first name her mother gave her, just bcuz it's an English one.

This is an awesome story, but for some reason the high-quality TL got booted before chapter 50 and replaced by some machine-translation without proof-reading... The MC has a daughter, why is she called "he"? I usually dont get mad about stuff like this, but this story is otherwise so good, the characters fit perfectly. The 500+ year old Immortal behaves like a 500+ year old immortal, beyond the worldly, spending money like water, not caring for the ants. What a shame.

I like the concept overall, but I'm deducting 2 stars for the following:

    1. Way too slow. I like my slice of life but c'mon, author, a single day spanning multiple chapters, for every single day is probably the slowest I've ever seen. 3 days was the longest time-skip I've come across so far.
    2. In about a month of in-novel time, I think I've read about 10 different rapist young masters thirsting after FMC, and it's getting bloody annoying and out of hand.
Beware: this novel also has an ungodly amount of forced drama.

Hands down one of the best novel of this genres (city and stayhome dad) that I have read. Better yet, its currently in my fav top 5 novel.

This novel goes from bad to good to extremely good. Im currently at ch353 of the raw and I can say the story at this point makes one crave for more chapters.

The character development in Godly Stay-Home Dad is quite good. Readers can see how ZhangHan goes from being the typical city cultivation as*hole MC who would destroy anyone who stood in his... more>> path to a caring, much warmer, tolerant and better person due to his daughter Meng Meng and his other family members.

Have to give credit to the author too for being able to make the story interesting yet not dull by combining the aspects of cultivation and family love. It feels like that are abit of everything in the novel, but the story still flows really well. Although there are some points which I didnt like, for example
Spoiler

ZhangHan giving songs to other artists at ch50~ or smth. Felt like that was a really boring part honestly. And also the ZiYan's company young master should have been finished off long ago in my opinion, the young master is too annoying but yet at ch353, he is still alive. But everyone had their own preferences so yeah.

[collapse]

Rate this novel 5/5 because novel of this genre that is this good is very scarce. Trust me, I have read over 50 high ranking of novel of this genre at both qidian and zongheng and this is hands down one of the best.

Ps. For people who think this novel is racist? I want to point out that there is a difference between racism and nationalism. If some of you think that this novel is racist... you guys havnt seen what racism is lol. Also, reading up to ch 353, I honestly havent seen anything that I feel is racist. Just to point out, although I can read Chinese, I am not a person from China so my opinion is not bias. <<less

One of the best novel I've read so far and I just love it.

Don't be disappointed by low ratings or negative reviews, just read at least 50 chapters before you decide to continue or not.

This is a slice of life novel with mild action and good romance with a lot of cuteness and fluffy moments.

Zhang Han / Zhang Hanyang / Hanyang Immortal is a protagonist who came back from the world of cultivation and was a great Hanyang Immortal so arrogance is an obvious trait he has as people shouldn't... more>> complain about him being arrogant and his indifference about everything else other than his daughter, her mother, and his relatives & friends. But he calms down because of his daughter and becomes casual and his character develops as he becomes much more understanding became of his love for Zi Yan.

Romance is pretty good in novel much better than typical Chinese novels. MC and FL become couples around chapter 300 and their characters develop as the story goes.

Zhang Han is a doting parent and loving husband that's what makes this novel so good and leaves you wanting for more. And Meng Meng is one of the cutest character in the novel you just help but love her. Every character other than MC and his family are well written. The story is good so far as it doesn't feel repetitive or forced. There are many face slapping moments and MC becomes ruthless the moment others mess with his family.

Overall it's a satisfying novel and highly recommended. If you can't wait for new releases then try mtl as its not as cancerous as other novel and it's much readable. <<less

Just read up to ch700+ of this novel, and I will say that this is one of the best novel in this genre.

First plus of this novel, not a harem novel and MC doesn’t think with his pen*s and only have eyes for FL.

Second plus, drama doesn’t drag out too long and I feel like the pacing is good.

... more>> Third plus, interaction of MengMeng, ML and FL,

Fourth plus, good side characters.

Total, this is a very good novel and you should give it a try. Though there are also flaws in this novel, I mean which novel doesnt right, with how good the novel is, the flaws really doesnt annoy or irritate me much. <<less

Agree to whatever the translator said, give it a chance, the first 30 or so chapters did get on my nerve but after MC get together with his child's mom that is where the good stuff starts.

It is a light read that focussing on slice of life although there is some action to get the story going. Problems/crisis does not drag for too long, the pace is just right.

Just what has already been said, for me, I think MC has the right mentality for a 5++years old dude. He really... more>> settles down and be a stay at home dad, he does not crazily search for power but still OP, always thinking about his daugther and wife. <<less

I remember there being another novel with similar idea, so I gave this a try, this is just 4 chaps in so might give this a try later, but this doesn't appear to be nearly as good as the other one. TL quality is good here though.

Below some spoilerish things that turned me off this novel.

Spoiler

First of all, "the name your mother gave you is no good because it's not chinese"... What kind of parent is like this???

Secondly, the plot here seems to be "MC came back from immortal world to time before he died" it doesn't appear that his previous body survived this tribulation, but he still expects his items to be on his person, and even pulls out a random treasure, all while emphasizing how his cultivation is lost and he has returned on earth. This makes no sense at all, did his body return or did his soul return, why does he have his ear treasure but not his ring if his body returned, where is his cultivation?

While we are at that, the world he returns to seems to be completely different world than the one he originally left/died in, which atleast with this little amount of chapters seems to be purely unexplained plot convenience.

[collapse]

Basically it feels like the author first had an idea, and he then went and added more things later, feeling like there already wasn't enough and that some things he wanted to use weren't explained earlier.

I'm also guessing there is going to be A LOT of "china number oneeee!!!!" things here judging from ch 3-4.

Decent read though regardless of all the faults I guess, atleast compared to many other chinese novels here. <<less

It's not bad.

The characters are decent enough, and have some depth. Its different from the usual killy killy ones,

But there's one thing that is hard to take. A child does not automatically go up to a stranger who says he is your Dad, and start dissing her own family members.

... more>> She also does not automatically accept a new name from a "new" dad, and reject what her mom says.

She also doesn't automatically love the dad more than the mom or "aunt" who raised her.

In other words, the child isn't realistic, and seems to take action only to show up everyone else.

Its a small annoyance, but since the child is in half the chapters, its a big part.

Other than that, its pretty decent. Not good enough for a re-read, but enough for at least 1 read. <<less

This is one of my favorite novels, because it mostly stays true to its title. In this one, mc's main focus is his child, and changes because he is a father. There was a small moment where he left his child at home, while he was completing some missions, but then MC began bringing his daughter along.

Some people dislike mc's personality, but that is what I like about the MC. The MC spend about 500 years at the stop of the cultivation world, looking down on mostly everyone. Then he... more>> comes back to our present world, and people expect him to change overnight? That does not make sense, and I liked how the author kept his personality. As the story progress, we see how MC becomes more tolerant of those around him and more amicable, because of his daughter.

I agree with the former translator, it is probably one of the best novels in its genre. <<less

Was interesting at first until the author made everyone s*upid.

MC: Bland as hell, Just thinks about his daughter. Loves his daughter yet doesn't like the mother for no reason.

FL: Has to be the most s*upid woman in this novel, Wants to be a Actress and such yet works for a company that keeps screwing her over and trying to get her to sleep with this guy. Bad thing is that she Calls the Boss elder sister yet that elder sister is the one that screwed her over and such.

well the story indeed good though

except how MC personality and attitude

even after he reincarnate in modern world he still didnt let his personality from his 1st life change
that make him always looking down on ppl and didnt care about ppl, that make always clueless and careless everytime when his enemy began moving. This attitude made him like despite being monarch he still like a dumb person who doesnt know to read the situation and condition

and the most s*upid is MC Woman, just because her pride and she getting blinded... more>> by her s*upid career, no matter how hard MC try to reprimanded about her dangerous situation she still didnt care like she can handle it by herself and especially how she realy trusted her company even after her company try to sell her to a young master so they can get sleep together <<less

One of my favorite Chinese novels, it has a nice balance of character development and action. It takes a while to really get going in my opinion, but it's worth putting the time in (20-30 chapters). The author seems to be better at foreshadowing than his peers (something webnovelists are particularly lacking), as things casually mentioned a few hundred chapters back suddenly become important. Worth the read.

Ignoring the lecherous villians, for which I deducted a star, this is a wonderful story. Many Characters have a bit of dimension in their behavior making them much more appealing then the usual 1d or the deep and dark characters.

Good character growth of protagonist, nice world building, a good plot and an acceptable level of suspense. (It keeps u guessing till the end, but if u carefully observe the clues u can guess part of the truth around the halfway point of the story.)

The positive energy emerging from the... more>> MC and people close to him, even in difficult situations, makes for a nice read. Lots of funny scenes to boot. However, there are big hurdles to cross. The last battle specially tear jerking.

The ending arc leaves u a bit heavy hearted, happy ending it might be but a bitter aftertaste is left.

Great romance, good battles, wars, ordinary life and I am envious of even meng meng for such a doting dad. Lol.

i felt myself grow older, when the primary school teacher made meng meng subconsciously change the way she called her parents. My heart jumped in my mouth when the little girl wanted to go to kunlun world and was upset at using the red little flower. (Yeah, I got too attached to many characters in the story, and I was totally immersed in the feelings of having a daughter. Lol)

Well, it was a slightly different but a very enjoyable novel. <<less

This is actually a very good novel. Give it a try for a few chapters, you'll totally love it! Mengmeng is a very likeable character! Zhang Han is quite overbearing, but what can we do? He lived hundreds of years already in immortal world, so it's totally understandable how his 'great' mind worked. For the female lead, though her character is quite s*upid sometimes due to her 'star' career, she's still become a good woman and wife later on for MC. Not to forget, those annoying and to-die-character young masters,... more>> they exist in this novel *chuckle*.

Oh, romance is quite good in this novel. As well as martial arts and cultivation. It's actually interesting how the mysteries revolving around MC (his past a.k.a memory in immortal world), MC's wife (one of the mysterious character in this novel;
Spoiler

you just can't wait to know what's the secret of her being

).

Overall, it's either going to be one of your favorite novel out there or you'll never like this kind of slice of life genre novel. As for me, it's beautifully done. One chip from me! <<less

This is very similar to "Gourmet Another World" but where Loli is the daughter. This is mostly filled with filler scenes with badly written scenarios with only Zhao Feng taking action while MC behaves like a spirit adviser. This story all about Zhou Feng and not MC. The Author can't even face-slap properly. Read my spoilers.

MC: He lacks presence in the story. He's bland and indifferent about things then it comes to bite him back in the @ss, all because he ignored the problem! What's worst, MC even spares half... more>> of the people who wanted to ruin Heroine life! [Might Change in future]
Spoiler

The MC still sees himself as Immortal Han and has that Immortal mindset. Like where does the confidence come from? He still sees ordinary people as Ants! Do you now understand my frustration when I read this?lol He almost lost everything if it weren't for the fact the guy had help from his father.

[collapse]

Heroine: I like her but she keeps being manipulated by the same trick and it's all her fault! Even her Company sold her out many times to sleep with other guys to earn them money.
Spoiler

Yet she keeps believing this industry. She knew they were the MC enemies and still signed the contract. Sigh. What bothers me the most is that she talks big but doesn't have anything in her artillery to show for it. It just has to be MC saving her. Even after knowing this she's still with them till she mentally breaks down to MC! She thinks as long as she's earnest she will succeed but her bosses have no integrity. She can't do anything without MC! She thinks if she destroys the contract everything will be safe. But would they really let her off so easily?

The Li Jie obviously holds enmity towards MC. She sees this and still accepts the invitation and signs the contract because they promised a movie role.

The Hong family warns MC about Gu family methods, MC ignores the Problem but the next chapter the Gu family drugs Heroine and MC goes insane. Heroine even knew the Gu family is nothing good and still accepts a new invitation for another movie.

She founded out MC is part of the Martial Circle and she still acted oblivious when she heard the Hong family call him "Master". She or Zhou Fei didn't even say anything when MC mu*dered. The company didn't even defend her and she still ended up with them!

[collapse]
It really makes me want to flip the table due to her being so s*upid...

At times these characters act reasonable but at times out of character. Which is quite vexing to read..
Spoiler

Lian who fell in love with MC was liked by Zhou Feng, it was a good idea however she becomes like a B*tch after awhile because she keeps rejecting him. There is a need to have a order of things. Then suddenly Zhan Li falls in love with him. WTF? That was really forced. The MC even saw the 'Insect' who tried to r*pe his sister as trivial. And if it Zhou Feng doesn't work out with Zhan li, she would probably end up with Long Ge who tried to save her. Which is s*upid. Why does the Author feel the need to add more 'Love Interest' in the story? Even the Daughter has one! And Li Ann who was doing good at first somehow fell in love with MC.

[collapse]

Conclusion: I dropped this because I could no longer stand this foolishness any longer BUT this could definitely be a top grade novel and could had easily surpassed Trial Marriage Husband: Needs to Work Hard however it's to inferior in terms of plot. This is simply just too messy of a story sadly =/.

Is it worth reading? If you asked me the first 300 chapters, 'Hell Yeah!' I could bare with it. But now I can't really say. It might be worth translating depending on how the Cultivation goes. I really want to rate this 4 stars but too many things are forced! Nothing really happens in the 400 chapters I've read and no development what'soever. I'm not too optimistic and the story gets boring with endless repetition. Just nothing exciting. If the Author took it step by step and more polished.. This would certainly be amazing. Started as a really good story in general, but too many emotional ups and downs for my taste. Clearly the author is talented though to cause such strong emotional responses.

I don't do well with NTR & r*pe scares, and it seems to pile them on randomly from time to time. Thankfully they never happen as far as I read. (As far as I understand with MTL and having not completed the series)

But I just couldn't handle all the r*pey villains and fear of NTR happening anymore and ended... more>> up wishing I never read the story.

If you don't care about that kind of stuff though it's still a pretty decent story, it has a lot of very cute things mixed in. There is a lot of drama as well though, most of it is completely unnecessary and is the primary reason I stopped reading. <<less
