When a futuristic scientist is transported into the body of a young man in a fantasy world, his curiosity and desire for power push him to pursue magic. In a world without mercy, Leylin has no qualms about doing anything if it means benefits. He is cold, ruthless and calculating, never forming attachments that could impede his ultimate goal…

Honor? Who needs that… Hmmm… that guy seems too powerful for me to take on now… I better keep a low profile for now.

You want me to help you? What do I get out of it? Nothing? Bye.

Hmm… that guy looks like he might cause me problems in the future. Better kill him before he becomes a problem…

6.5/10 readable and enjoyable

As a lot of reviews say, the MC is only willing to take actions for benefits. This character trait prevails throughout the novel and is consistent with who Leylin is. Despite this consistency, his character seems a bit bland and does not develop over the novel, as the author keeps repeating the same thing: " he only does things for his benefits, morals are nothing, he's so smart 🤓"

Moreover, the author's writing is mediocre to the point that the pacing of things is weird and some arcs... more>> are a slog to get through.

The south coast arc in the first book was a good introduction to the world of magi where the people took actions for benefits which is normal as humans don't do anything that directly harms their interests unless they are forced. The arc, however, was too long where towards the end you had to slog through and wait for some dogsh*t plot writing to transition to another arc.

The twilight zone arc was by far the best arc as we see the author's writing shine. The author is best at creating a play where the MC is the director controlling everything. This is what happens here, and it is deeply enjoyable as the MC works is the background to his goals. The transition to the next arc is linear and not interesting but emphasizes the Mac's ambitions.

The Central continent arc is also fine in reading and the plot progresses adequately. However, it is from here that we start getting contradictions with what the author is saying: "unlike normal MCs Leylin does not just get ez drops". This is not the case since we see on many different occasions that he has insane luck and just finds things:
Spoiler

he just finds the pocket dimension in quicksand and that's all I can remember but there should be more of these moments

[collapse]
. This arc is pretty long and has some good moments 7/10.

The passage of bloodline arc is pretty boring except for the end where we see the direction by Leyling to accomplish his goals. The author is pretty garbage at world building much like other xianxia authors where everything is massive and blah blah blah.
Spoiler

The only issue I had was that Leyling stole Beelzebub's law of gluttony, which doesn't make sense as Leyling has f*ck all idea about laws (blazing flame monarch doesn't count since he stole a bit but couldn't even comprehend 1% of what he stole). He steals gluttony's laws and somehow understands it perfectly and isn't contaminated by is broken ai chip

[collapse]

The world of gods arc was refreshing at the start but the initial pirate segment was f*cking boring as shit. The silverymoon segment was enjoyable with good action scenes and fighting. However, I have the same issue with the author where he says the MC does not get ez drops but he does.
Spoiler

he somehow finds a 1/trillion possibility of finding a map that leads to arcanist clues and he can access that area. Then he goes to fight the dragon in netheril but there's no danger since tiff is a legendary. After slaying the dragon, MC finds pocket dimension band gets the coordinates to the floating city as well. Not only this but he gets the most broken nightmare physique for free while there is not backlash or danger form distorted shadow because of this since he has the most bs ai chip that no one ever detect even though many beings can see his soul and the chip is connected to it somehow

[collapse]
. The end of the arc is dogsh*t with the hell arc; that sh*t was so boring that you could skip to the last chapter of it and understand what is needed.

I couldn't even read the final war arc because of how bored I got from the author's repeater writing that he considers world building. I just read the summary and was disappointed with the lackluster ending of end is just the beginning, cringe.

Overall, the author is alright but can't world build like most xianxia author's. Leylin's motivation of immortality seems a bit forced as well as there is never an event that seems like a catalyst. Although all humans seek eternal life to an extent, we have more values but apparently Leyling doesn't have anything but his goal of immortality, which is contradicted with his non-obsession with it: he is said to be single mindedly focused on this goal but doesn't want it if he can't have worldly pleasure. Idk, Leylin's motivations seem bland and only have surface level implications. The ai chip is so f*cking broken as it is the only reason Leylin can do anything. To Leylin 's benefit he seems the resources for the ai chip to have a bigger database but has doesn't do or accomplish anything in his own, except the plotting in twilight zone and snake dowager. The other character are just name dropped and irrelevant to the story. Also the power system suffers the same flaws as other xianxia with concepts of law and dao that can't be described except in a surface level and sucks. Overall this novel is readable and enjoyable it you ignore the issues that I pointed out. <<less

Pros:

- The biggest difference from others novels would be the 'evil' aspect of the main character, as his quest for immortality has no moral guidelines whatsoever. Good for when you don't want an MC fawning other another "Jade-Skin Beauty".

- WMW has good worldbuilding, with the western fantasy style being refreshing from other cultivation novels.

... more>> - Action scenes don't last for numerous chapters, only highlighting the key schemes and actions that happen.

- Plotting is the biggest pro here, as 50-70 chapters of buildup let you end each arc in the most satisfying way possible.

Cons:

- As others have said, the AI chip would be the 'cheat item' of this novel, and his 'overpoweredness' would stem from this.

- Lots of exclamation marks! If you tend to notice smaller issues in novels! Then this might get to you alot!

- The side character arcs, these might be worst thing that really throw people off. While the beginning side arcs are more enjoyable and short, the later ones near the end only get longer and more frustrating.

Overall I'd recommend it for people, as it lets you see how 'cultivators' would become powerful when righteousness only makes one weaker in this cutthroat world. <<less

I enjoyed reading this, it may not be the most well-constructed story, but it was enjoyable. I'm a huge magic fan, and the magic system wasn't too horribly generic like most cultivation stories. His power ups, more so near last 300 chapters of the story did not make too much sense and felt like ass pulls. The different worlds especially the hollow earth / subterranean world was cool to see. The ending honestly underwhelming but if you're bored not a horrible read.

Refreshing protagonist, interesting magic system. The only real disappointment I had with this novel was that he abandoned alchemy roughly half way through. Would recommend this to anyone that is tired of typical face slapping MCs.

This novel, although good in my opinion, heavily depends on personal preferences. As mentioned in many reviews the MC is ruthless and heartless but it is, in my opinion, one of the best parts of the novel.

The lack of well-developed and relevant side characters is also a problem, however, the novel revolves around Leylin and he is, very much, a lone wolf. He does everything by himself (or rather his AI chip) but as a side-effect of that, the side characters become irrelevant. The author probably made the right choice... more>> in facing them out and focusing on the MC. Of course, the author could probably have written a story where they somehow stayed relevant to the story but considering this is a web novel where they have to pump out multiple chapters every day it would be hard to come up with such a plot. It would most likely have derailed and the side characters would have become pointless, only there to gawk at the MC's strength. Personally, I liked the fact that the love interests were left behind for a large part of the story rather than the author killing them off or having them kidnapped just for some cheap plot development and motivation for the MC. Regardless, I enjoyed the novel very much and would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent read. Also, there are many people complaining about the fact that the MC doesn't act like a scientist whatsoever, however, it is likely just a plot device to justify the MC having the AI chip and give him more of a wow factor at the start. I forgot about it early on and didn't even remember until reading through the reviews after having completed it. So I recommend forgetting that detail if it annoys you. <<less

One of the best novels I have read. I liked how there was nothing left to luck, or plot armor. Everything was planned out by the MC, and the way they were revealed are always amazing. The translation quality was also spectacular. Now that I finished it I find myself bummed out because I know it will be almost impossible to find another book with the same features as this one.

The one and only Chinese novel that reread.

5X!! At that!

NORMALLY Chinese novels are meant to be dropped halfway or most of the time, be cursed by the garbage ending.

... more>> Very rare, you would finish it and say not bad or good, but forgot about it next week.

ONLY WMW has made me reread a Chinese novel again.

Sorry for Focusing on the word 'Chinese'.

This is not racism.

This is just common sense that Chinese novels are potato-novels.

Some are not bad, some are rotten inside. But in the end, you will fart it out and forget about it, because it's not worth remembering.

WMW on the other hand is your mouth wash after eating dirt. <<less

50% of the novel is the MC scheming, for those who said he's not calculative bruh it's not like the AI chip is the one who make scenarios of schemes for him. AI Chip is used for his research esp on potions and deduction of time researching complex things.

  • The MC is a ruthless cold blooded villain, evil and a schemer
  • he gets close on people for benefits
  • his luck is average
  • he don't take risk if it danger his life
  • the only cheat here is the AI chip attached to his soul

This is truly a great novel but is not the cup of tea for everyone. What makes it great is the vast world, how the author takes many magic and (one) sci-fi systems and incorporate it in a long ever progressing story creating great world-building. The novel is full of great twists made very cohesive. Yes this isekai MC has advantage but it encounter many set backs that made the story interesting. One thing that negative reviewers don't get is that the MC explicitly tells he was reincarnated in a... more>> world with the "rules of the jungle" where only the strong survives, (minor spoiler) >[ mixed with the MC wish for achieving eternal life] push away morals for self improvement.

Spoiler

Other reviews have rated 1 star because MC becomes evil align or because there is no romance but none of that means the story is bad.

This is the one of the best novels I've read. MC is cold hearted, cunning, ruthless, calculative! The story starts a little slow, it took me sometime to finish first 100 chapters but after that the story picks up the pace. You'll realize the why the word Warlock is in the title of this novel after you've read those first 100 chapters. The cultivation system in this novel is really nice, it's not like any other xianxia or wuxia novel where you just train mindlessly and reach new levels. How... more>> MC handles various situations is realistic, he doesn't offend someone more powerful than him just because they disrespected him, MC doesn't care about honor or pride. MC is not completely heartless maniac, he has a family and some good friends, but those who've only read a few chapters won't tell you that. MC cares a lot about his relatives and teacher and it was clearly shown in the novel. In this novel, MC has an actual goal and he puts in effort to achieve it. And for all those saying, MC is not a scientist and uses ai chip all the time, well yeah he's not a scientist anymore!!!! He's a magi and about the Ai chip, it's just a computer and computer can't do anything unless or untill we provide instructions to it and yeah you need knowledge to use computer. If I give you a super pc and ask you to make me a program you can't do it if you don't know programming languages, same logic applies to this. MC is knowledgeable and thus can use ai chip to his benifit. <<less

With so many people whining about how the MC is not acting like a scientist and cares too much for power and other s**. Don't listen to them.

The MC was a scientist in his previous life so he has no obligation to carry on as the same in the magus world. And here his pursuit is to become an immortal for which he is willing to do anything. Which is what anyone would do in such a world where if he doesn't act he won't know how he died.

For the... more>> setting of the world the MC adapted perfectly. As for people calling him heartless and without humanity he doesn't bond with people too deeply and doesn't owe them anything so why would he risk going against the world for someone he barely knows. <<less

Ok I liked this one because leylin's dependence on the plot was close to none, something you can't find in our classical japanese light novel where the hero is simply OP by being the hero (looking at you ryuuji-kun). Leylin is not made strong just like that, for about 100+ chapters leylin is at the bottom of the hierarchy and has to be carefull he had to learn, improve, and overcome on his own there where no one for him to trust other than the AI Chip the author at... more>> least tried to show the mc's transformation from when he first arrived to the magus world as silkpants son of a noble to supreme lord of the universe at end

Complete garbage.

The MC is supposedly a scientist but a high school kid in a decent educational system is a better one than this guy. He has an OP A. I. Chip that does all his work for him. This is not the same as using the current computers as the preteen fan boys defending this tr*sh would like to claim but it's fine. None of them would be able to differentiate a real scientist and research from a toddler finger painting, much like the author.

The MC is not particularly smart,... more>> he just has a good sense of preservation; everything is done by his s*upid beep beep companion. There is absolutely no satisfaction when this OP object solves literally all the problems the MC has. It is boring beyond belief.

His preservation instincts and the chip make it so that there is no real tension or conflict. Boring.

He is a psychopath which could be very interesting to read about but for the author that means a flat personality who commits atrocities as easy as blinking. That is not cool, that is boring and someone please kill him so that we are put out of our misery.

The side characters have no depth at all. There are no meaningful relationships at all, thats goes for friends or foes. Everything is flat and you guessed it, boring.

The plot itself is also boring.

I have got to wonder at education levels when this is apparently the height of fantasy literature for some. Antiheros can be great and the basis for great books. This is not it. Yeesh. <<less

A good story, but bc I'm not to evil-apathetic-selfish MC...i refuce 1☆..

A mad-scientist MC from earth.. transported to world of magic.... so MC only care his experiment and how to get stronger.

A meh romance (MC apathetic... so ofc)

... the story itself have pattern boring-boring-interesting-a bit interesting-boring-boring (for me), dark, with many hypocrite everywhere, with MC Much Smarter than other (ofc).

That's it...a boring novel without much attractions (for me).... but not that bad that deserve 1☆.

I really wanted to like this novel. I gave it a second chance since I dropped it after the first few chapters the first time around. Back then it seemed like the AI chip the MC had was going to be doing all the work. (Too bad after picking it back up that seemed to still be completely the case).

The MC isn't interesting. I get why some people would like it. The MC doesn't make the usual choices that other MC's in this genre make. If that's all you need... more>> to be entertained it's good. But the MC is inherently uninteresting on his own. He does makes smart choices in comparison to other MC's. If he sees a secret lair he doesn't blunder in dumbly. Or find a clever way to break it into. He'll make the smart choice of walking away and training himself to a higher level then come back to it. I can usually get behind making smart choices. The problem is that's all he does: Make the most beneficial choice that he or his AI chip sees. He does no real work himself. It's all the chip. He can have his chip make fight plans for people he's never fought or faced before so he can dodge their moves. The only thing interesting about the MC is comparing his choices to other MC's in this genre. He'll hide that he's killed some young master, instead of arrogantly flaunting it and getting chased down by their clan. For a little while that's entertaining, but for some reason it's all done in a really boring way. Point A to point B to Point C with everything every explained along the way. So the story, the MC, and the side characters are all bland and predictable. I kept reading reviews of Age of Adepts being put down and this story being put on a higher pedestal. It's one of the reasons I gave it another shot, since I'm a fan of AoA. But the MC is AoA is far better than this one. He has goals. He seems to actually understand how to do proper scientific experiments. And he manages to accomplish many things that aren't dependent on his AI showing him the way. His AI is a tool, not a crutch. AoA has a better lead, better pacing, better growth, better enemies, and better side characters. I'd recommend that story over WMW any day. I might give WMW another shot in a few years when I get bored, but I'm really doubtful. <<less

I'm in brink of Dropping at 434 I might pick it up Again out of boredom

I have read almost every magic gene friction in nu

... more>> Reason: unrealistic fight scenes, too much s*upid characters both Intellect and mind

In real life there are 9 stages in meditation at first stage ur mind Will Not get weavered by happiness or hate. u can observe how. soul functions and how awareness forms

Just this can make u consider things very careful

And your mind can erase distraction in a brink of an eye, so it means u can erase every thought or fear, impulsive.

So imagine someone who do meditation 100 years and even do something like researching

But the ways they fight each other is somewhat like... mess and pretty confusing

I CaN't understand how they fight, never tell me what range of spell is, who uses spell first, What range it can reach, how fast it is.

Mostly there are many circumstance where MC appears in enemies' eyes-sight

And enemies let MC-attack first and they say oh powerful.

Wtf.

Don't u have any countermeasure? Like observation plan, finding out how powerful MC. Plan to escape. Test out state of mc?

it's like everyone has a powerful gun and PowersuitThat boost movementspeed, melee attack and defense
Just think if u had 10 friends Who were equipped with sguns and powerful suits and u are gonna fight with other team with Same amount of power as yours, what are u gonna do?

Do u think a random strong person can fight 10persons firing to u at once?
How many strategies can be implied?

BuT they fight each other so s*upidly and impulsively

What a use of meditation?

There are many I want to say but better find out yourself

Spoiler

MC kinded to friends. one who first taught how to use sword.. second bit*h that slept with him. third Teacher who guilded him in alchemy, making drug.

He once guided a kid out of boredom, but latter he found out that kid was a child of destiny, so MC plotted against him to make magical coin that couls predict future wether his journey would be bad or good.

The kid still respected and meant no harm to MC, but sadly MC killed him to make the Coin. Before he died he asked why MC did this for? He said for the coin, and then the kid said you did just this with sadness, contemn, disappointment.

[collapse]
It meant MC didn't value any relationship, it meant MC just pursued matters to upgrade his matters to be better matters, all of story only a kid who was fascinated to be strongest interacting with nothing but natural phenomena. It's fine if you love to touch or satisfy feeling of something after u touched from any of 6 senses that way, but that is not my taste

MC will get manipulated by chemical substances in his brain that feels as good as masturbating oneself to the rest of story. <<less

Boring.

Want to see a evil MC, cool heartless, -i f*ck so much every time I want with anyone I want- mc? *flashbacks from SAO* oh no...

Well, for a start, MC is not mc; A.I. Chip is the MC, and the most kind of coward, totally~ useless, without any kind of strong character, leaves behind all people no matter if it's a wife, friend, family and would sell them for free if anyone he cannots beat challenges him -kind of person- (he literally says he will all the time he can, nice author).

Is it a cool MC tho? Yea, he so cool, his enemies are so dumb LOL :D well they're practically *brainless*, they might be 500+ yo but have a mental ability of a 14 yo. Even though they're supposed to be a super computer (their brain) once they get to rank 3 magus (guess not anymore). So, what about what he can do alone... nothing, he can't fight, he can't learn, he can't f*cking walk without the A.I. Chip. BUT NOTHING, I firstly believed MC was going to have his ups and downs, nah the A.I. Chip is the strong, any person can be Leylin, ANY, even more the case for a mentally ill person that has aggresive tendecies (I'm not trying to insult mental illnes, I myself have, and is enough). "As long as he doesn't magically find anyone stronger than him, and never loses the A.I. Chip, he is better than anyone everytime, forever. That's the briefest resume of the novel."

The only good thing you can expect is to read more development of his magus tower, seizing control of organizations and even a whole 'continent'. Fights, alchemy, s*x (?) and even taking a look at someone requires A.I. Chip 100%, while the other is more like 30% since MC is the one getting everything constructed. One good thing about MC without talking about his evliness, kinda-smart decisions and cold personality? Easy, he just doesn't get fooled by anyone, even if it's one of his women that desires power and only want a child of his so that she isn't abandoned.

I never regret anything, but as dear Bee says, there is no cure/medicine for regret.

I certainly wish i'd give more reads to novel updates reviews before starting to read... ah...

So this is better than MGA imho; but only for 1 place, it could've been so much fun to read if it wasn't for this author to go all-out so his MC's look so cool and f*ck a lot yeeeea *more SAO flasbacks*.

I tried reading this after Release the witch and I can't help getting disappointed about this one. RTW isn't perfect but if you will compare both protagonist, this one is way too boring.

The story started good and interesting but then it got boring. The protagonist, who is a scientist doesn't even show much characteristic of a scientist. Even a highschool student who is simply good at science as a protagonist would have been better than him. He got a cheat ability and he is beyond useless without it. He depends... more>> too much on it, as if he don't have a separate brain at all. More or less the protagonist won't pass as a scientist at all. Otherwise he could have had a better start.

Not only the MC but also the AI Chip as it is full of inconsistencies. It would have been fine if it's only OP because it's a computer afterall, but it's ability goes beyond it, as if the author had to add a lot of ability to it, just for the convenience of the useless MC. <<less

Wow, this is DISGUSTING!

Spoiler
    • Allies/Friends that is no longer useful will be betrayed or killed.
    • Author repeat a lot of times that MC doesn't like unnecessary killing, but later on looks like the author forget about what he said because he becomes a god of massacre and if you see the prayer for his church your brain will get hurt.
    • If there is someone that drowned and all MC needed to do is throwing rope with no risk or loses whatsoever, he will still ask first "What benefit can you give me?", if it is not enough then of course MC won't do anything, sometimes he will 'help' so that they died faster.
    • If there is a new character in the story that looks nice/friendly to MC, you will be thinking how will the MC later uses them, betray and disposes of them.
    • MC saved 2 girls and then
make them as prostit**es without them knowing.
    • Wants to make everyone become a devil by corrupting good hearts.
    • Towards the end, there is only betrayal and killing, and not the exciting kind.
    • There is a lot of inconsistencies and nonsense. Although I am fine with a moderate inconsistencies and nonsense because I have read quite a lot of CN novels, but when I hate the MC and Author, it becomes worse.

It's alright if it's only

a few times, but all the books is like this.

0/10. Won't ever read the Author works again.

Overall great novel. Well-written world, main character, and his rise to power. A good break from a typical hot-headed, overpowered MC.

The last 1/6th of the novel was a slight reduce in quality but overall still a good novel. Would definitely read it again.
