Transmigrating into the Reborn Male Lead’s Ex-Boyfriend

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

Song Xuanhe transmigrated into a book called “The President’s Seven Boyfriends”. He became the President’s cannon fodder ex-boyfriend, Song Xuanhe.

The Song Xuanhe in the book: 180 cm tall, so attractive he would trump over even the hottest celebrities, three generations of family in business–a very appropriate rich third generation.

It wasn’t a loss to transmigrate into this kind of person. It was just that this was a rebirth story.

The Song Xuanhe in the book abused the male lead 800 times and had even indirectly caused the male lead’s death. Faced with the reborn blackened male lead, his fate was obvious–not only did he reach rock bottom, he even died without an intact corpse.

Right now, he had become the cannon fodder ex-boyfriend that was foreordained to die without an intact corpse.

—–

System: Don’t you think that the male lead has been a bit strange recently? It’s like he’s plotting something in the dark.

Song Xuanhe: Plotting how to kill me?

System: No, plotting how to eat you.

—–

Song Xuanhe, who was lying on the bed with an aching waist, pained back and legs suffering from cramps, cursed the System 800 times–what happened to the male lead being a shou?!

Emphasis: Xiao Yuanmu is the gong! Xiao Yuanmu is the gong! Xiao Yuanmu is the gong! Moreover, the big shot has always been a gong! Spoilers only up to here!

This is not really a review, rather it is to explain the plot holes that people have mentioned in their reviews.

Spoiler

So some people mentioned that it didn't make sense why the system sacrificed itself for the MC and ML. In the extra, it was explained that when the system first saw MC, they knew that he was his host, and they really loved him (in a familial way, as the system said that they felt like an elder watching their child). The system's name is Shun (if translated properly) and he never knew why they were called that. The main system said that the name was some kind of 'mark' (idk MTL probably lost the meaning in translation). Later we find that the system was probably a family member of MC, I think their family cat (seen in MC's flashback later). In the system's flashback, they said that they remember a cute chubby boy running towards them and calling them 'Shun' and that was the first word the chubby boy said. From that moment onwards he "vowed with nine lives (because cats have 9 lives) and would take good care of him", and said that "Mom and Dad, [even if] you are not here, I will protect him". (I'm getting teary).

Also to make you guys feel better, the author hinted in an extra that the system reincarnated into a kitten. One of the girls in the orphanage named them 'Shun Shun'/Er Shun, which is why MC got reminded of his family cat in his previous life.

[collapse]

Again, I MTLed the extras so my understanding may not be accurate but I'm sure the meaning is something like that. I'll probably delete this review once the extras are translated so this does not confuse people.

I really wish there were more extras to see the domestic fluff and perhaps where the OG SXH went? There are some little things I wish the author could have included but the story itself is still pretty good. <<less

Honestly *sigh*, it’s written like the characters are really in depth but at times they randomly become OOC. Like really. The ML is honestly kinda bland at times, since were spoon fed his personality. My sweet corns. If I ever here “there was no ripples in his eyes” again I might breakout into hives. Like, we have your typical “selfish MC who doesn’t think the world is real. “Some people think he’s a arse, which he is. However I REALLY like how he’s not your typical “wahh I’m so independent... more>> I’m going to make a magical business “ character. He actually has wealth so, it saves all that money grubbiness to the all talented ML. To me, the internal monologues and views on philosophy started to get annoying. Like, really we don’t need to here an in-depth discussion on the world every 3 seconds. There was never any real feel of danger or struggle from the characters. They had mindless enemies and it was so annoying. The MC had no reason to get so involved with these cannon fodders -if he didn’t feel this was real-. He creates mindless amounts of trouble everywhere for no reason. There’s a million and one ways for things to be solved but he chooses the one that puts his life into jeopardy. Their relationship pre-reborn is so good and than they separate and were basically out on ice for the rest of the novel till the end. Also the fact their isn’t any explicit scenes whatsoever doesn’t match the novels tone. Ok, China censorship but at least in the extras could be something. To me, this was just a waste of time if all that angst and bitterness washed away into a very dull show of useless sap. Both characters are jerks, and they don’t seem like the type to be mindlessly lovey doves when in love. They seem more rational and passionate. So I was expecting at least waist up descriptions of their most likely amazing s*x life. Felt like a waste of time, but I appreciated the fresh feel of not having a philanthropist MC. Also it felt more realistic view on the rich, rather than the black and white other novels have it as. Would never reread though <<less

It’s not the usual plot I’d normally pick, and certainly isnt extremely original. Transmigrating into the the Protaganists lead Canon fodder ex, who’s done him extremely wrong in the past, bonus points for reborn male lead. It’s got the makings of any book of this genre. Many will likely point to similar books such as the Scum Villains Self Saving System. While the system interactions were much more entertaining in SSS, if we were to make comparisons, I still much prefer this. Which is unusual for me to say,... more>> as cultivation xianxia/wuxian novels are typically more appealing to me than second generation political dramas, which is also a key factor in this book.

I really like the characters in this book. Many of these web novels fall flat on their one-dimensional characters, which makes for easy reading but also doesn’t lead to a very memorable product. The MC is a bit of a tsundere, which leads to a slow burn, which, in this case, was quite satisfying. The profession of their relationship felt very natural in their circumstances and their successes felt deserved. Despite the fact that the MC is a vast improvement over the previous “host” character, we still see him, and the ML go through their own respective character arc and development.

Spoiler

Spoilers: When the MC takes some time to self reflect on his behaviors, which have become self destructive once he reaches a point of mental conflict, it was actually a really poignant look into his character and thought process. MCs breaking point in the novel has him reflecting on the similarities between himself and the OG host. Had his circumstances been different, he feel he likely would have turned into him. It didn’t excuse OH hosts actions, but was instead a look into how the author views relationships and how the people in our lives can have a massive impact on how we approach the world. It felt really raw and was probably some of the best writing in all 150 ish chapters.

[collapse]

Many of the characters are well fleshed out. Some MLs really struggle when they’re the “stoic, quiet” types that are so common in danmei. ML is the quiet type, but he’s soft for MC. Slowly we see him open up to MC more and more as his barriers are broken down. It’s made clear that he has a kind soul, but struggles with trusting others because of his past and the cut throat nature of family politics.

Have I mentioned that they’re Soft? Because they’re soft. Anyway, I highly recommend lol. <<less

First review that I'm writing on the site wew.

If you're a reader trying to see if the novel is worth reading: Yes. (But beware, it's SUPER slowburn and there's alot of family revenge drama. If you don't like any of that then I don't think this novel is for you.)

Note: THIS IS NOT YAOI. I have no idea why it's tagged as such. Putting this at the top so that others won't be disappointed (because I definitely was). I mean I didn't expect explicit pounding or smth but man...... more>> the hugs and small kisses are the best you're gonna get.

Before I read this, I looked at the reviews below as well and there were many users warning about the slowburn but DAMN. This novel takes it to another level LOOOL. Probably the few that I read where it took sooooo many chapters for the MC to realize his feelings and for them to get together. But the ML is super cute after he realizes his feelings and he becomes a total clingy puppy :"). Now that I think about it, I'm probably biased cause I'm a sucker for these puppy types.

Their small affectionate moments are super cute too. But
Spoiler

I feel like a lot of their relationship moments (aka when they officially got together) is just them talking on the phone LOL. A lot of long-distance pinning stuff.

[collapse]

I'm someone who can't stand super long novels and I'm surprised I made it through. I think it's cause the author tried to make the literature easy to read but I have to say it got rly draggy towards the end. I felt like giving up but I was curious so I continued. And maybe this is a unpopular opinion but I preferred the MC's personality at the beginning of the novel. I found him cuter cause he gets all jumpy when he has to interact with the ML, esp
Spoiler

THE FRICKING LAP SCENE AT THE START. AND ALSO THE SCENE WHERE THEY HAD TO KISS INFRONT OF THE OTHERS AND THE ML GOT RLY INTO IT. WEW. THOSE WERE THE BEST.

[collapse]
As time pass, MC gets used to the world (understandably) but it kinda got boring for me that he became so alike to the ML. I mean perhaps the author intended for it this way as his character development story since many of the OG host's friends commented that MC has become so much like ML. But eh... "cold" characters just get boring to me.

Also I didn't really like the ending. Maybe cause I went through so many chapters, the ending just made me feel meh, that's it?
Spoiler

So apparently the ML suddenly has some terminal illness cause he was reborn twice. And initially MC wanted to use the soul fluid (?) but system said it wasn't allowed. So he wanted to do some conversation treatment aka giving half of his lifespan? Didn't really understand this part entirely cause I MTL-ed it. In the end the system, z48, sacrificed himself? And both MC and ML are happy and healthy. But I felt like the thing with the system was super abrupt LOL. Apparently system has liked the MC this whole while and he's actually the MC's dead pet cat (in the MC's og world). Honestly felt really weird cause the system didn't have a significant role throughout the novel, it just appeared from time to time. I never really felt any deep affection, even if it was platonic. I feel like the author just wanted to make the ending deep so he/she randomly placed it.

[collapse]
And so it felt super unfufilling for me but oh well. I did have some good moments at the start with the novel.

BTW did anyone ever find out who exactly is the dude in the photograph that the fat ugly boss used to threaten the OG host? I was sooo disappointed that the author never got to revealing who this was because I was waiting for it till the end. I thought it was gonna be a big reveal because the MC himself said that the OG host would not have easily gave the ML to someone else. So the person in the picture had to be someone special right??? Ugh okay this was probably the part I disliked the most about the novel cause it's such a major plot hole for me that the author casually forgot about. It could have been interesting if it was linked to the MC's original world or someone that was special to the OG host.

Idk if anyone even reads this much cause I rambled alot but give it a try! Just remember that you won't be able to see them officially together until like 80-100+ chapters (i forgot the exact chapter). <<less

Favorite danmei of all time. People said it's slowburn, but to me the progress is natural and the way the author wrote the climax is great. Why? Because danmei I've read have too fast pace – it makes the plot drop after the pair finally got together. But this author can hold the plot progress until the end (but author-sama why won't you write side story tho QwQ).

Anyway, the characters are great, I mean :

- Cautious, prideful MC (he's not cold mind you! The system demand him to be a... more>> bully but he's actually warm to the core)
(Btw I wanna hug both MC and original MC ugh ;_;)

- Cold, smart, doting ML (tsun puppy ML pre-rebirth, turn alpha wolf post-rebirth)

Side characters :

- MC's friends : man, all of them have characters : kind, chaotic, calm, shameless, tsun, you'll find all of them. And they care about the MC, so does MC toward them.
- MC's fam : lets put aside the family drama, but I wanna say, GO GO MAMA SONG!! (Honorable mention : a doting Grandpa Song :3)
- Villains : yooo the villains are really well written I wanna slap them one by one.
- System : is adorable but that ending ;____;

Plot : decent amount of laugh, angst, family drama, fluff you won't get enough of them. (I won't talk about the storyline to prevent myself unconsciously writing spoiler)

Cons : no side story QAQ.. I mean, I was dropping most of danmei mid-story because the plots become boring after a pair got together. But this one? I can't get enough I want Xuanhe-Mumu fluff after that ending at least one more chapter TwT <<less

I honestly don’t know why so many people dislike the MC.

He’s a pretty normal guy, he follows the rules of the system so he could live and I think that’s understandable. Not everyone is so OP with their ability to scheme or fight against the universe itself.

Spoiler

I think his actions towards ML is pretty justified. It was established in the beginning that he needs to act out every scenes perfectly if he wanted to live. Once or twice, things can be altered but events regarding the ML is pretty hard to interfere with because they are direct contact with specified lines.

At the end of the day, him too is also a normal human who only wanted to live peacefully so it makes sense for him to follow the instructions although not si faithfully but enough to minimize the damages.

We can also see ourselves from out perspective that he’s slowly falling in love with the ml. But the situation does not permit to do so and the risk is his own life. It’s a hard decision.

LOVE IT!

It's in my top five right next to FOD, it's not a complicated complex story 😅 it's a simple narrative but the characters are 3D and have some brains, it's a slow burn but it isnt at the same time (you'll get what I mean).

ML is enotionaly the smartes ML i've ever read and aparently the most handsome too 🤷 (i'll Buy that just for his BDE)

MC is not as original (with his past-present life and seamingly new persona out of the blue) but he is still one... more>> of my favorites MC, he is not a marthir of any kind 👌

Healty relationship, face slaping, dog food, a bit of dog blood and funny drama, greatly writen and translated.

Waiting for updates 👀

And definitly reading it again 👽 <<less

one of the best transmigration story plus rebirth ML hahaha. You can see at the start Both leads are wary at each other. MC-Knowing that he did many bad things to ML (Well the past Orig char) and the ML (Who has his previous memories plus not good past). The story flow is good and you can see the development of the characters. MC -Song Xuanhe -how he tries to somehow twick/ the story flow of the book. The ML gradually changing due to the actions of MC.

As you read... more>> you will gradually realize how well they match and suit each other. ML and MC starts to open up their hearts. A good faceslapping too-to the villains. It was a good ending. Just want to know what happened to MC's (other body where he came from) <<less

I MLTed this a while ago but I'm finally writing a review now.

I absolutely love this novel. Probably my favorite transmigration novel, from the plot to the characters, and just everything. The MC: calm, composed, but not cold, and amusing. The ML: a confused, abused (LMAO that rhymes), and, like usual, cold black-bellied dark possessive dominant gong-like ML. And the romance aspect is so sweet. Chef's kiss. Sort of a slow burn, but mutual liking. And it's sooo heartwarming and sad that the MC

gave up his life in his original world to stay with the ML. And that was a really important and admirable thing the MC did there since he's kind of admitting that the ML is more important than his own life

but thats on selfless love yall.

But I have to say, the MC does have his eccentric moments. But it's understandable. The whole "Ima take a vacation to Chernobyl just on a whim to get some dyes since I'm an aspiring designer" part was extremely unnecessary, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. But the fact that I'm an avid supporter of abusing MLs such as Strategy to Capture that Scum Gong, means that I enjoy seeing MCs put themselves in danger and have no regard for their own life; and seeing the MLs suffer as a result. Also if you are a fellow compatriot in indulging in dog blood drama and the "I love you but I can't love you because of my personal problems" type of troupe then you will love this novel. Like the whole:

Spoiler

breakup part, long separation, and even all the little plot points when the MC had to let the ML get hurt, but he already had feelings and pitied the ML, f*ck my heart hurts for him. AND the car crash part. Like aghfghs. Sorry for going off there.

[collapse]

The villains are like the basic danmei villains, brainlessly getting into fights with the MC and ML with no apparent reason. The side characters also did their job: helped the plot line along, but damn can we get a hand for Song Jiani. She is literally the definition of women empowerment when she

Spoiler

let go of Song Xuanhe when she realized that he wasn't good for her and no matter how much she cared for him, he wouldn't care for her. I live for the part when she wiped off her makeup, stood up, threw her f*cking handkerchief at Song Xuanhe like the queen she is.

[collapse]

I didn't like her in the beginning of the novel since she was just depicted as some annoying and persistent pursuer of Song Xuanhe, but at the end, her character development was amazing.

The ending was rushed a bit, but overall the novel was really good. <<less

First came off rly strong and leave more room for guessing. Then it went down hill. Everything is unnecessarily described. Even if I skipped 2 or 3 paragraphs I wont miss the main plot lol

Its like a school writing assignment when u need to write 10, 000 words LOL so u just keep bullshit-ing to fill in the quota.

Repetitive face slapping. I dont even find joy abt it. Like why the f*ck is everyone of them so brainless??

No real depth abt MC so far and ML is.... The same as ever. I dont know why I read this far. But pretty much 1 chapter costs me 2 - 3 minutes of reading. But man, I just wished someone put on the summary of everything so I can get over this. <<less

i think MC can accept ML sooner. I understand that he wanted return to his world so he didnt want to give a hope to ML but I think The author could have moved the story forward faster And there was no need for many events in the story. Like going to another country. There are many useless event. And we could enjoy their love life more than this. Its really short. I wanted read more about their peaceful life. And I happy when the system reborn in world again. I feel sad when I read its part. And I wanted to read more about ML's previous life. His interaction with his 7 bf. What's happened to him in his childhood. How did his Stomach get hurt something like this

i dont undrstand many things, maybe its because I read mtl or something else but whats the reason that MC transmitted to story? I really didnt understand. Cause the story was uncomplete? And its not like other many worlds novels that MC transmitted to many worlds to complete his mission its only 1 world so I couldnt accept that there is no reason. And its not like that this is MC's Previous life or he write something for author or there is an evil system I really can accept any reason but there is no reason . Maybe im illogical. I think I want more reasonable sake. Another thing is what the hell is with the novel's name really? And a 7th bf is a hacker and hate ML at all, only 1 bf really love ML in this world but 3 of them didnt meet MC so why they didnt chase ML ? In this novel system said its because ML and MC are in public relationship and many people didnt chase ML for this. But I dont think its the reason. I mean others even didnt have good impression on ML . When you like someone and he has a bf you should at least keep a good impression on that person but 2 of them even hate ML so it isnt a good reason and so whats the reasson behind the novel's name ? And why author didnt complete the story? Its really because she didnt know who would be the real ML's bf? Its kinda ridiculous you know. So I cant understand this matter too. But im glad that it has a hp end and another question that I have is who is the Protagonist in the world now? If this isnt ML then who can be Protagonist? Can we have a novel world without Protagonist ? I have many other questions too, but im too lazy to write them. Maybe after I read the complete version with good translation not MTL I can find their answers,

[collapse]

but the plot holes doesnt matter at all, the story is good and satisfied you and I dont want to write about it, you can read other reviews to find out. So I recommend it to you, and I should say what the most I hate in the story, yesssss I want to tell you that the story really lacking hot scene (っ-̶●̃益●̶̃) っ. I really wanted to read at least something little about their first night but the author didnt say anything. Maybe she write them in her weibo I didnt know but im sad about it. T T <<less

This is an enjoyable read. However, the romance is very, extremely slow, and the main couple took a very long time to actually be together.

The story also has a lot of emotional roller coasters, and I was harshly abused while reading it. 😭 One minute, it gave you candy; the next minute, it stabbed you with the knives. Really, it's sweet and cute and whatever, but the angsts were also basically everywhere. My frustration boiled over with all the push and pull between the MC and ML, to be honest.

The... more>> characters' setting is not bad. Even though the personality of ML is quite typical; a kind of those who have grown up in harsh environments, making him smart and more observant. It's pretty cliche, but I still more or less okay with it.
Spoiler

I actually prefer the ML before his rebirth. He's smart, pure and innocent, much more likable.

[collapse]

Meanwhile, the MC had a bit of an up and down with his rationality and emotional issues. He was sometimes too illogical and annoying. There were many times I was so frustrated by his actions, but because of his self-sufficiency, I still liked many things about him.

Overall, I think it's a fun read. At least worth a try! <<less

Also near the end of the novel MC's fam suddenly isn't mentioned again! And as for the scum dad I feel so much hate on how he didn't get a bad ending! As for ML's fam, especially the mom! I hate how the novel ended without us seeing them suffer! F#ck ML's mom and bro!

It was an interesting story. Sometimes I like reading romance novels like this. It really makes me feel like I do and don't understand what it means to be in love at all.

In summary, it's a transmigrator vs. Reincarnator romance novel with a few twists. MC and ML are both quite willful, with overbearing attitudes and unwillingness to explain themselves that makes them difficult to communicate with. It makes you wonder sometimes why anyone would want to be friends with them haha. The tacit understanding they develop for each other... more>> over the course of the novel is interesting. I can't decide if I think it's realistic or not, or whether that even matters.

Their miscommunications (both deliberate and not) as well as the "political" intrigue present enough obstacles to keep an interesting suspense for the story. That said, it's not a psychological thriller of any sort, so don't go into this expecting to need to use your brain a whole lot.

Considerations before reading:

Spoiler
  • Cannon fodder characters really behave like cannon fodder characters, it's clear to see who you're supposed to side with and who you should find in the wrong / annoying right from the start. Can be a little simplistic and annoying, so if this kind of formulaic writing really bothers you, this may detract from your reading experience.
  • In the original plot, "Song Xuanhe" did a lot of really scummy things. As the transmigrator, MC is forced to act out a lot of these scenes, including blackmailing the ML into a relationship and agreeing to "give away" the ML to someone else. While these misunderstandings are resolved in the end, it can be difficult to read about the MC going through these acts.
  • As you may have figured out, this novel relies quite a lot on coincidence and misunderstanding, especially at the beginning, when it is walking the tightrope between enmity and attraction between the MC and ML.
  • This novel features a fair amount of "face slapping" that some may even call excessive. Personally, I find it a little tiresome to see people crush others through money and status. That's the sort of thing you call scummy when the enemy does it; I'm willing to call it funny the first time, but it doesn't make it better just because the MC does it. That said, it's within a tolerable range, at least for me.
  • As with a lot of CN novels, disablement / disfigurement / addiction / etc. Are sometimes used rather lightly as a "just" punishment for villainous characters.
[collapse]

I enjoyed the insights into the MC's character and occasional self-destructive habits, as well as the things that he finds important to protect. I wish that the end of the novel had spent more time on MC's relationship to his new family, and followed up a little bit with his mysterious childhood memory.

That said, I was satisfied with the ending, purely because of the epilogues. I decided to write this review just so that I could say this: If for nothing else, all 150+ chapters were completely worth reading, purely for Side Story 1 and Side Story 2, which -- despite not focusing on the MC or ML at all -- made me cry.

For those of you who enjoy the romance genre, I hope you will give this story a chance. <<less

I have two main frustrations:

1) The MC is unnecessarily mean. The author tries to have the typical "transmigrator faceslapping people who have wronged him" scenes, but they don't even explain how the MC has been wronged. ... more>>
Spoiler

In the previous few chapters, MC shows up to crash his cousin's business launch celebration party, and publicly humiliates his cousin in front of everyone. It's implied that there is a reason, but it's never explained, so all we get is the MC being rude for no reason to someone who's actually reacting reasonably.

[collapse]

2) This might just be me overthinking it, but it kind of feels like... idk, the author has some disdain for poor people? It feels ridiculous to say, but within the past few chapters I've seen two instances, one where
Spoiler

MC's cousin gives his 'sad backstory' about being poor compared to MC, and then MC humiliates him for no reason, and this is portrayed as justified. Then right after, MC's cousin is portrayed as engaging in shady behaviour (like maybe he deserved his poor origins??)

[collapse]

Then within the same setting, we have
Spoiler

a poor waiter who's begging the ML to let him keep his job because the waiter has a sick younger brother that he needs to provide for, and the ML is just standing there with a cold expression and not saying anything. But then in the same scene, it's revealed that the waiter 'didn't apologise properly' and "Simply apologising for ruining someone's clothes really didn't have any sincerity to it. No wonder Xiao Yuanmu (ML) hadn't paid attention to him." The 'proper' behaviour was the waiter bowing ninety degrees (which is practically the most formal bow you can do) and offering to change the ML's clothes for him.

[collapse]
I just feel like the poor characters describing their poor circumstances and then being revealed to lack morals in the same breath implies something like, you don't need to feel bad for them because they're actually bad people. Meanwhile all of our main cast are rich young masters who have never done anything to earn their wealth and have the exact same moral character, yet they are portrayed as funny and powerful and cool.

Also, I dislike how we spend 30 chapters seeing the relationship develop between the MC and ML, and then suddenly
Spoiler

the ML that we've seen fall for MC gets essentially replaced by his reborn version. It resets their relationship almost back to zero, so what was the point of the first 30 chapters then??

[collapse]
It feels like a waste of time.

The translation is good, but I think I'm just going to drop this. <<less

I enjoyed the cute translator/editor notes at the end of every chapter more than the chapters itself..

A sign I should have stopped much earlier, honestly!

I'm genuinely too exhausted to read beyond ch130 which, coincidentally, is where other reviewers recommend we skip to. I really did love our MC and ML but it's at a point where I'd rather stop and rest my brain than witness their happy ending together.

A few novel quirks I disliked:

    • Some chapters end on a cliffhanger. Permanently. Bits and pieces are revealed in later chapters but in a fashion that disrupts reading flow (e.g. As flashbacks that leave readers confused over when it occurred. Some commenters had to backtrack thinking they missed something).
    • Convenient "by-the-way"s that honestly don't add much and would be better omitted/conveyed differently (e.g.
      Spoiler

the system suddenly having a character danger-ranking to reinforce how strong and edgy MC is. Or the system suddenly having the ability to predict MC would be 34.5%?? Happier in the novel-world, thereby causing MC to waver.

      [collapse]
    • Flimsy explanations for derailments (e.g.
      Spoiler

      our lively MC turning
very cold and obstinate mid-novel. Several chapters later, his friend comments on the change and concludes that lovers really do become more like each other, despite MC and ML having fallen out of touch. More characters continue to mention how MC is becoming more like ML. It's as if the author realized too late how differently MC was portrayed and just rolled with it.)

      [collapse]
    • Lots of MC introspection! It takes up the bulk of some chapters but it's wordy, repetitive, and honestly leads to no change or even attempt to change.
It's really just how the novel is structured that gives me a headache. The overall plot is fine! I do wish I could have enjoyed it more.

This is a slow burn of a story. Like, frustrating at times slow. It's not till after ch 120ish that you start getting fluffy and sweet moments. There is also a dog.

The cast of characters is so large that at one point, there was a link to character chart. I also checked in the comments for some help every now and then.

The development of the ML and MC, both as individuals and as a couple moves at a snail's pace. It's hard to track why and when they have feelings... more>> for eachother. It feels like things have been left unsaid along the way.

The both, but mostly the MC make decisions and choices that I found difficult to understand at the time, but as the story developed and memories of previous life's were revealed, came to make some sense. Although some just make you want to ask why?

I think this is a story that if you decide to read, you need to commit to. This isn't one that you can read a couple chapters here and there while also reading other stories. This is one that has parts that feel like they are dragging, but then later give you the reason or understanding of why.

There are a lot of flashes and ripples in the eyes as ways to try to show feelings and reactions since the main couple are both cold and hard to read. They also seem to have an understanding of eachother that the author forgets to share with us, so it has an almost voyeuristic element to it. You are reading a story that feels like it should have a companion book that has explanations and details and internal dialogue that would help.

This is a story that you have to persevere with. There were a few times where I considered dropping it because I was bored or annoyed, but I felt drawn to the characters enough that I wanted to know more and I think hanging around paid off. Atleast so far. If the ending sucks.... well, will not be impressed.

This has low level spice. There are kissing descriptions only. <<less
