The night he crossed over, he was told that his “wife” was having a baby.

Upon entering the delivery room, he discovered his “wife” is actually a man!!!

Was there anything more terrifying than this?!

Li Jin had just woken up when he saw a man run out from the room.

“Li Jin, your family’s husband is having difficulty giving birth. He can’t hold on anymore!”

In ancient times, dystocia was known as “one corpse, two lives”.

Without even thinking about it, Li Jin rushed into the delivery room. —He was an obstetrician.

After crossing over, Dr. Li, who was respected for his medical skills, became a “soft rice man” who relied on his “wife”.

A very sweet sensible novel, very gentle and honestly, just nice to read about a healthy relationship along with the interesting details about their daily life.

I liked that the MC quickly understands that the previous relationship was abusive and so isn't offended when the ML is nervous or withdrawn around him.

He gives the ML space to heal and grow trust so they can build a real relationship.

... more>> Not every novel needs to be slice of life, but man, I wouldn't mind seeing more respectful and actually consensual relationships like this!

I will look forward to more translations, which are also of good, clear quality, really readable and enjoyable. <<less

Somewhat of a misnomer considering the MC only farms for the first 30-40 chapters or so, and then the rest is about how he improves the lives of other farmers through being a scholar. Yes, this novel should actually be called "The Transmigrated (?) Li Jin's Daily Scholar Life. But this is the best SoL danmei I have read so far. It has a really, really unique calming flavor to it that doesn't rely on face-slapping for once. I mean there is face-slapping but the MC was trying to wait... more>> for the scums to pass and he kind of. face-slapped them on accident. lol

Plot

One thing this novel really dived deep into is how shitty life was back then for scholars from poor families, and this poor-to-rich journey is hardly at all easy compared to the strange multiplier/golden finger other novels in this theme have. It gives you all the gruesome details about the examinations that one needed to take on their way up to being an official and! in the end!
Spoiler

he resigns from being an official which is something you usually don't see in historical novels. Although he gets dragged back to the capital because of his love for his wife.

[collapse]
, and the story has certain 'unreliable narrator' twists to it too. Like most people say, the main text ends in a weird place, but not really if you consider the first 18 extras as part of the main story too.

MC

Li Jin is a very unique protagonist. Most of them are usually teenagers or guys in their mid-20s before they transmigrate, no, this guy was almost 30. Which is why he saw ML as a child for the first 30 chapters. He actually continued to refer to their 'age gap' to the hilarious confusion of the poor ML. But because of his age he is very level-headed and super self-disciplined, and we see from his POV reflection on his life "pre-transmigration" that he never experienced romance and was always emotionally 'distant' but then
Spoiler

it is revealed that his modern life was actually lived by part of his soul that transmigrated into the modern world after the body in this historical world fell into the well which makes such an excellent plot-twist because in those two years before he transmigrated back the 'MC's body' had no self-control and only lust so he abused the ML, whereas the MC in the modern world had only self-control and no lust.

[collapse]
MC doesn't make decisions based on how much money he can make, he prioritises the ML and his child above everything and his moving up the scholarly ranks is because the scholars are the highest social class so that he can make sure the two 'gers' in his family are protected by his status even though 'gers' have the lowest social status as a gender.

Wan Yun is also another unique character who becomes the MC's zhiji and
Spoiler

also part of the unexpected second CP.

[collapse]

Romance

We don't get to see the name of the ML for quite a few chapters and I was getting irritated by the label of 'young man' that they always introduced him with. But Qin Muwen is such an adorable and tragic ML that shows a ton of character growth over the course of the novel and is also the POV for most of the extras. I teared up reading his family's story and you can really tell that transition in their relationship started from when he decided to trust Li Jin with the full story. The relationship is a steady, slowly growing one that starts off somewhat intimate because the 'previous Li Jin' only married ML for s*x and made him do all his work and is also a consequence of the ML's poor self-esteem, which the MC slowly builds up, and it was super moving when they interviewed him and the MC reflected that
Spoiler

he never made promises or told the ML he loved him because his actions would prove it over time

[collapse]
which he did. To the point that he was famous in the capital for being a loving spouse to a ger.

Conclusion: Sugar-sweet but realistic historical SoL story that you can read casually. MC is surprisingly h**ny for such a disciplined guy it's like he changes whenever ML and he are alone. Definitely worth a read. <<less

So cute. This is one of the best novels I've come across on here in the wholesome category. It's very drama free and calm but it may be too slice of life or slow for some people. Overall it's a nice story to heal a heart that just got torn reading an angst novel.

This story isn't about farming, it's just set in a rural village and it doesn't have a clear point, it's exactly a slice of life story.

I really liked the attention to detail in the setting, it felt... more>> realistic despite the existence of gers. It felt much more grounded than many novels set in the realworld without fantasy elements.

I loved all the customs, the realistic portrail of gender roles in those times and the traditional rural mindset and how the author didn't make the characters black and white and you could see that most of the villagers were not bad or dumb people. I like how it didn't belittle the ancients and the MC wasn't condescending.

The finance managing parts felt like watching someone play the sims.

The author also kept in mind that knowing modern medicine and traditional medicine is not the same and no magical modern gadgets appeared nor did the doctor know how to make them (which would be outside of his expertise).

The main characters were all great. The dynamics between the MC and ML were very healthy and adorable and the growth of their relationship felt natural. The friendships that the MC built along the way were also nice and heart-warming.

The MC was a responsible family man while his spouse was an absolute sweetheart.

Very sweet overall and a good pallet cleanser. <<less

The MC is the gong. This is a happy end story.

MC and ML are not the OP characters, and the novel are about their daily life. Love reading it.

Of course there's some stuff I'm satisfied and didnt get and confused with.
    • So, what's MC actual profession in his previous life? Wasnt he a obstetrician? So why he's that good in mathematics, arithmetic to the point that he could make formula to design ship?? Confused.
    • No love rival, no students rivalry. No face slapping. Basically, no bad guy.
    • It's peaceful story.
    • Yeah, not satisfied with how the other characters from the first part werent written again. But I guess, it's how it should be. Since people will separate when they're about to pick their future.
    • Until the 100 chapter, I still didnt understand what's the theme of this novel. What's the main thing that MC wanted to do. Where'd we go with all this stories?? Just to reach the top of the top (scholar/official) ? If MC wanted to have a decent life, then he could just write book, be a half doctor, or do some business with the mind of modern man. I mean, even after he decided to take the final exam, he still didnt want to muck in the capital and the court. So whats the point?
    • Also, I'm confused of his ambition to create and build an industry revolution. Where's this ambition came from??
    • I like the children story here. MC and ML as parents were very good, they love their children fairly and justly. MC didnt just love one specific child just because he looked like his wife (ML), which usually the case with daughter then neglect the other child and I hate this unfair treatment so much. The same with ML too. They treat their children very good. MC was not your king of vinegar husband even with his children. So often I read in novel of how father will be jealous of their small children. And their children looked after each other too.

    • I wish the story on their children would last like another 50 chapters lol
    • What kind of ending was that? Is how I know I'm still confused of what's main theme of this story? What's MC looking for in this life?

Easy to MTL considering the ancient era genre. Will read the translation again.

Li Jin, an obstetrician, was killed by truck-san and transmigrated without any memories of the original host. The orighost body have a hung over while his wife was currently on labor. He then discovered that his wife was a ger, and helped his wife to birth their first child. With the great focus and control of a modern man, he integrated himself in the ancient society to earn money for his big and small buns.

Love how snippets in... more>> the future shows that LJ was one of masters highly reknowned where his earlier works were sought for.

Spoiler

The ending was actually really worth mentioning. LJ and the orighost both fell in a well when they were 9. The orighost was known in the village being well behave before the orighost fell in the well. And LJ don't have memories after he fell from the well, and don't have close relationship with his parents in the modern world. LJ then realized that LJ WAS THE ORIGHOST, so he felt more belong in that world.

Then hundred years later, where features the oldest and largest museum, where Li family relics are treasured

This is Honestly Good!!! ? No ups and downs, smooth sailing (except the MC's hardwork). The ancient people, emperor and officials are mostly upright. I'm thankful that the MC transmigrated (not really transmigrated, see spoiler) or else the ML (shou who is a ger) would be living in hell. Also, I honestly salute the MC. If I were in his condition, I would knit my brows and thought "why should I bear the responsibility for it". MC is really diligent!! Studying, farming, taking care of his wife husband and child, etc. Even though he's really tired, he still studies at night everyday to pass his exam. He is not OP, although he transmigrates he doesn't known most of the ancient terms as well as all their cultures unlike those person who studies when they're still a child. Whereas MC is the typical white lotus (gullible, martyr yet pure-hearted one).

Spoiler

MC is still the MC throughout his life (regardless of age). Rather a part of his soul (rational) is transmigrated

First of all, I think it is necessary to explain that this story is really purely about the life journey of MC and his family, there may be a little conflict but it is a conflict that is very very small, so it can't even be counted as conflict.

Also, different from some other transmigration/gardening stories, the MC in this story doesn't have a golden finger at all... the MC just transmigrates and lives a normal life.

I mean of course MC and his family gets better and happier as the story... more>> progresses, but it doesn't to the point where all the people in the world surround and scare him... it just to the point of the normal stage, where MC is respected by a lot of people and have good lives.

The shortcoming of this story itself may lie at the end of the story which the author wrote a little harshly.

It's hard to explain, it's just the ending that author made was done very badly.

It feels like makes your head fill with question marks even though it's over (but dont worry it's not a question mark that happed because of the plot hanging, it's just a simply a question marks).

Well, like I said it's hard to explain, I think you guys will understand once you finished the story. <<less

4.5/5

After reading many ancient China novels, I know that becoming a scholar is difficult. However, I didn't realise how difficult it was until this novel. I have walked away from this novel with a healthy respect for ancient Chinese scholars.

That said, I liked the novel a lot. I liked the relationship between the MC and the ML. It wasn't as repressed and bland as we often see in most novels of this genre. I also appreciated that the MC chose not to go into business selling recipes etc. The imperial... more>> examinations were a welcome change.

What I didn't like is that everyone liked the MC. Even enemies were quickly converted to fans. Overall, the novel lacked a bit of fire.

Still, this novel is worth reading. <<less

I really love this story, good cubs, not overly possessive husband (not getting jealous of his own children), real sweet story and really vivid on how they did imperial examinations that would make you think "I'm glad we don't take exams like that."

My main complaints, "WHAT WAS THE USE OF SAYING YOU STUDIED MEDICINE AND BECAME OBSTETRICIAN?!" I think MC should have studied engineering in the past, cause even if you want to try something new in a new life, shouldn't you also use what you learned in the past?

MC... more>> was like, I studied medicine for more or less 9 years but my heart now says I'm a genius mathematician who know how to make ships after studying for less than 3 years.

Okay, enough rant...

I like how the children actually seem like children and it was a good slow life read. It's also good how they didn't make the husband into a big shot suddenly after returning to the capital like other novels seeming like MC was marrying high and actually maintains their status quo but still makes others say they looked good together. <<less

this is a very leisurely read... a slice of life that focuses on li jin’s journey towards succeeding in the imperial exam... there are no heavy plots, no political struggle between the princes, no usurping the throne from the emperor, no collusion between ministers and any of the princes... but it was not boring at all and was quite enjoyable overall

This is your standard intro to the world of poor to rich, ancient faming transmigration genre. It was so smooth, translucent and surpringly, true to the history of the ancient China.

I enjoyed this story so much, I wasn't in thr mood for spmething heavy and this story's mood is so perfect for an afternoon break.

The only downside is the abrupt ending. The pace was going so well and it looked like the MC's life would be even better, but the author ended it at the climax of the story. There... more>> are still a few unresolved subplots and characters I'd like to read more since each one of them are interesting, but well, that's too bad. <<less

This story is soooo good! I never thought that I would like the genre 'slice of life' but I loved this very much.

There are no dramas, no villains, just MC and ML with their kids and friends on their journey.

The MC is not ambitious like other MC's and he is not very strong as well.

I love his interactions with other people and how he's not letting his pride up his head. He just focuses on following the wishes of his mother, and making the lives of his family better than... more>> what it was initially.

The pacing of the story is stable and no rush at all. Though I would like to see more interaction with the whole family

the birth of the third child was not shown at all and also the love story of the of the 3 buns

Different from its title and summary, a large focus of the story is MC's slow journey to his goals. And I truly did enjoy it. It's a step by step process to there, and because of that, you can appreciate and meld relate more to the experiences of the MC.

On the family front, MC and ML's relationship didn't take huge turns or twists as they were generally open with each other, their compatability and their actions drew them together to being true partners. The children were also very cute and... more>> I liked that MC took part in raising the his kids. Good qualities for parent too.

Another point that I'd like to point out is that despite having an already established and successful occupation, he didn’t completely rely on his past life's knowledge to achieve his success, but used hard work and determination with just a little inspiration from the his life before.

Overall, took a different route in a common plotline and I enjoyed the ride there. <<less

Well I will not write much, I don't like 'slice of life' genres, gives me feeling still left types of feelings but I had a inkling this novel is good, and I read it. Though a little plainly written but the story is not boring quite entertaining, the gradual development of the relationships between the main characters and side characters, their business development, everything fits well, and I am really enjoying it and the ending is also satisfying.

This is one of those novels that I read the mtl and want to go back later to reread it.

Overall it's a feel good piece full of fluff. I really like the relationship that develops between the MC and ML. The MC knows the previous owner treated the ML poorly and wants to show through action how he cares.

It's also not an OP MC. He has a few advantages coming from a parallel future but most of his accomplishments come from his hard work. He's also very self aware of... more>> his faults. <<less

MTLd and I recommend yall to do the same as the mtl is p easy to understand.

I'm getting used to see ger concept in the novels and honestly? It's starting to grow on me. After getting annoyed at ''The Only Favourite Ugly Husband'' this really healed my broken heart! It's cute and sweet; it mostly contains slice of life chapters. MC is hard working and smart, ML is cute and optimist (honestly, the only reason he lasted so long with the previous host).

I cried a bit when ML saw his... more>> child was a ger too and cried, fearing MC would sell his kid or worse : (.

I loved how MC was scandalised when he noticed a man was birthing his child because same, that's be my first reaction as well. In other novels they brush over this point very quicly like hello???? Aren't you a little surprised?

MC is a scholar so it's really nice to have a smart MC in a BL novel lmao. He's also empathatic so it's a pluss too! Unlike many other gong MCs he doesn't say ''Not my problem'' when people are suffering. <<less

I absolutely loved this story! (●♡∀♡) There's not much intrigue but there's progress in the interaction bet MC and ML. I adore how MC keeps his loyalty and love to ML in this era. I like how supportive MC is to ML and I'm proud of the growth of ML. ♡´・ᴗ・`♡

I have this feeling that MC is the real owner of the body bec MC changed his personality when he fell to the well when he was 7 or 8 y/o and then transferred to earth and went back again to that world after MC had car accident on earth.

I'm also curious about the gender of youngest child of the MC. (∩_∩) In the end, I'm glad that the descendants of MC and ML preserves their legacy.

It's a light read. I mtled this until the end. It talks more on the journey of the MC on taking the imperial examination to become a scholar and he top all those exams. The MC is a doctor but he's always saying that he is not proficient with chinese medicine. But since he knows arithmetic/mathematics, he introduced computations easier to common folks and officials for used in agriculture, shipbuilding, etc.
Some readers might find this a bit lacking or boring. There's no face-slapping, intrigue or drama. Just good natured story-telling about MC transmigrating (he seems to realize that he had soul swapping at age 8 due to falling into the well, then travels back from the car accident), adapting into his new life and having a family. Btw, don't expect the "car", since it all fades away.

If you prefer excitement, then better read "The Only Favourite Ugly Husband". Since the MC there founded his own country.

Good slice of life novel, I'm glad it was from gong (seme) perspective, otherwise I am not reading it, because it is hardly yaoi. MC wife is a 3-rd gender - ger - not strong as a man, not fertile as a woman (but still can have children). In this setting they are raised same as woman - be obedient good wife, and ML is a virtuous wife. And in this concept they are not gays, because they are different genders. Wen Wen's old friends who empathize with his beaten-wife lifestyle still badmouths Li Jin after LJ had changed and given Wen Wen some expensive sweets.

Wen Wen gets angry that they're badmouthing his husband. But honestly, their reaction is legitimate.

It's mentioned they still remember Wen Wen arriving with bruises and never forgot this. The way Wen Wen was acting, it was like he'd forgotten how badly he was treated before this.

And while they've heard how LJ had "changed, " they don't trust him. I think the author really did good at this part.

Wives that have tasted a little kindness from abusive husbands try so hard to defend them, making excuses for them and just forgiving them because they're so insecure.

It's honestly better to keep friends who is still alert of the abusive husband so the wife can be reminded. Wives should not be beaten. They should not be feeling inferior to their abusive husband.

Divorce and form a group of women who can support each other. Don't allow abuse to stain your eyes, especially if laws can help.
