As my forebearer said, the story has a touch of darkness, it's fast paced and eventful. There (so far) are no useless chapters with info dump or endless descriptions (f.e. of cooking or technology). It's also nice that the time spent travelling is described to some extend (salted with nice character interactions making it fun to read), instead of getting a time skip.
The MC is no typical airhaid plot-protected hero-type japanese MC, he is quite strong and can (to an extend) read the mood. (He is styled to be a mix of Goblin Slayer (he's about talking just as much if only slightly more) and Guts (looking and fighting like a weaker version).)
We also have a stong heroine who is quite OP herself and crafty (!) to boot and she defenitly knows what she wants and how to get it.
The premises of the first arc is a goblin hunt while the party and the MC seriously underestimate the supposedly weak goblins. We also see an expedition into ancient ruins that differntly from the usual ancient ruins in other LN don't contain loads of traps but are rather styled like our current research / military installations (though with a touch fantasy and sci-fi) - that was defenitly quite refreshing.
So far there is no character "development" for this we likely will have to look into the next arc (s). The reader is shown a bit of the past and quite a bit of the character of each of the main cast though. Now there are of course con's though (many of those were already mentioned in the other reviews) :
- The characters are quite uniqe and likable, but our MC's lack of talking or asking for information (during / after important situations) is too forced by the author. The reader gets to know all the mistakes the other characters are making, as the MC thinks about it, but because the story requires these s*upid actions, the MC doesn't act on his thoughts (speaks them out alod / asks important questions/...) but remains quiet. While the author wants to display the MC as a quite type, thoughtful type, who thinks talking to strong headed people is a pain and asking indepth questions about is insensitive, it regretfully rather makes the MC look like a push over and s*upid.
- As it's important for the world building, the MC is apparently ignorant about many things and needs to ask about them. This could've been done better.
- The heroine knows quite well how to get the MC to (continue) helping her. The MC is supposed to act a bit like a tsundere and grudgingly accept helping the heroine (out of kindness). Still the reader currently gets more the impression that the MC is a pushover and is easily controlled.
- Of course the MC is required to remain broke. But is he therefore really required to be completely ignorant / s*upid regarding money matters?! (The MC fails his quest to hunt goblins - as he has no longer any goblin ears to show. Still there would have been quite many ways to still get some recognition and payment for his work done. Yet the MC simpy accepts the results / the word of the heroine and subsequently getting no money instead of trying to talk it over again / negotiating himself - which would be the normal reaction especially of anyone who has no money to even pay for his next meal!)
