“Can’t I properly read stallion novels anymore!”

Shen Yuan transmigrated into someone who’d tormented the young male lead almost to death, the scum villain Shen Qingqiu.

It must be known, the original Shen Qingqiu ended up being carved alive by his disciple, Luo Binghe, into a human stick, a human stick!

Ten thousand “f*ck your moms” rampaged through Shen Qingqiu’s heart:

“It’s not that I don’t want to cling to the male lead’s thighs, but who made him so f*cking black. The type who seeks thousand-fold retribution!”

Why have all the female lead’s scenes been forcibly given to him.

Why, as a scum villain, does he need to constantly sacrifice himself, blocking knife and gun for the protagonist!

Shen Qingqiu: “…I think I can still save him, one more time.”

This was the first reincarnation story I read <3 and I've reread it so many times and it still gets me the same way. I know it could have been better in some ways, but I'm still in love with it. The first half of the novel is my all-time favorite.

I love themes of reincarnation and learned to love systems with this novel, I think it colors the story in a unique way.
SQQ is amazing. LBH - I love it when he's in the white lotus phase, after that I have my issues, but I still like him.

Spoiler

Gongyi Xiao has a place in my heart and I still can't get over what happened ;-;

When I first finished reading this this I thought it wasn’t bad, it isn’t the most unique but I love protagonist and every time he talks to himself. I really liked some of the characters too.

However, after a while (and a sh*t ton of fanfics) I realized how unhealthy their relationship was.

Spoiler

Like the ML legit stole his once dead body from his home and martial siblings and prevented everyone of them from visiting the MC. And the ML is so two-faced and a giant baby to the MC. EXTREMELY possessive. Also he forced the MC to drink his blood which allowed him to basically control the inner part of the body (can cause major harm too). And when the MC got accused and locked up in the water prison, he just let the MC be tortured, and tried to feed him rotten food, (it’s been a while but I’m pretty sure he later said he didn’t know that the food was rotten) like I believe that?! Also when they first did the deed, I seriously was irradiated, like it caused the MC so much pain bruh. Very unsafe and the ML was inconsiderate.

[collapse]

I mean I don’t regret reading it??? I liked the MC a lot, he wasn’t very OP or anything. And the entire Ike he just wanted to live.

Spoiler

But like he still self destructed to saved to ML, like the ML just accused him of working with the demons and let him get tortured. Also it wasn’t even the MC’s body in the first place, the original owner worked harder than anyone in the entire sect for that golden core, and he just destroyed it from someone who tortured and killed the original owner??? Since the beginning till the end the MC barely cared abt the disciples, everything was about Binghe, the only disciples other than him that showed up was just NingNing and Mingfan. He barely taught the students what was suppose to be taught.

[collapse]

I really liked the side coupled and also Liu Qingge. But there were a bit of plot holes or unanswered questions like, what happened to the original Shen Qingqiu? Liu Qingge clearly knew that he wasn’t the og but never really bothered. Did the entire sect just ignore that he became a different person? Like the sect leader too?

I wanted more on the Original owner if the owner the body, Shen Jiu, and what happened to him and a bit more of his past. I think there could’ve been so much more added to this and way more interesting plot. I love MXTX and this was just written for the funnies when she was younger.

This wasn’t bad, and I would recommend to ppl who want a funny MC. His inner thoughts are pretty funny and so is his interactions with the system. But for the ppl who like a healthy relationship and not one that could be destroyed by a tiny misunderstanding, don’t read this. <<less

If you read a lot of transmigration stories, this one is very satisfying because the MC is well-acquainted with transmigration system stories and therefore doesn't make as many s*upid mistakes as characters in other novels. The entire story itself is quite funny and satisfying. I really recommend.

After experiencing 2ha I can get through the rain and torments these Shizun and disciples relationships brings me. My heart is cold as ice so I didn't really get affected by the tragic past of ML.

What makes me feel good was the comedy in this novel, which I think only a selective group of people might appreciate. Lucky for me I think I am one of them. I like the comedy style of this novel it had me laughing and rolling alot of the times. Especially our heroic MC who... more>> spew all sort of slangs and things that I really can't help but burst out laughing. I do feel bad for him when he have to act as meat shield alot of the time. Speaking of which this system is one of tr*shiest I ever seen! It's basically useless, it's not even remotely cute. It has no personality and purpose pei! Which makes me not understand the role of having a system in this novel. ML is actually quite cute when he's been sticky, sigh wish we had more rivals, we had the snake and the other guy which got offed he was really a good character. Overall the comedy really saved this novel for me otherwise I wouldn't have rate it highly because of the how short it is and the plot.

I also love the handle names especially Peerless cucumber!, lol hi meet me in another place, I am Peerless Milk-Buns from now on ^-^ ! <<less

not the best, but not the worst. It's one of MXTX's first novel (I believe), and her other works like TGCF are way better, it's still good. There's great humor (sqq's inner thoughts lmao). And even though this is bl and romance, I don't feel like the romance was involved until later chapters, but lbh liking sqq, we get to see a bit and his confusion, but idk. Also, I feel like side characters like the females and sqh.. Etc., weren't shown as much as I would've liked like others.... more>> The novel was short, a fun read, and still understandable. I would recommend this :)

3.5/5 stars

This was the author's first novel, and it does show in the overall writing quality when it comes to character development and plot holes. That said, I absolutely loved the overall concept and underlying themes of this story. Scum Villain is both a meta-commentary and parody of YY/stallion novels and a decent transmigration novel of it's own. It pokes fun at YY and BL writing conventions as well as fan culture which adds a comedic element to the storytelling. Thematically it explores the role of fate and free will,... more>> how preconceived notions can hurt you and others, and the cycle of abuse - how it effects those directly and indirectly involved over time and the importance of timely intervention to break the cycle.

The story follows Shen Yuan (SY), a young millennial who transmigrates into Proud Immortal Demon Way (PIDW), a typical male power fantasy novel which he has religiously hate-read for years. SY's running internal commentary and interactions with the System throughout the story are hilarious and really carry the story, particularly how he is screaming internally over everything while maintaining the cool outer composure of the Peak Lord he now inhabits. The story feels a lot like an RPG, the System assigning missions and various types of points to force Shen Yuan to meet a series of essential plot points from PIDW. Naturally SY is eager to avoid being dismembered and tortured to death and proceeds to hug the thigh of the protagonist to his utmost ability, doting on Binghe and developing a very close and positive relationship with him. Binghe has deep insecurities and attachment issues due to his childhood and earlier abuse from SQQ, so when his teacher suddenly starts being kind he becomes infatuated and crushes very hard on him, though SY is quite oblivious.

This is where SY's struggles really begin, where he has grown close to little Binghe but is forced to complete the plot point of pushing him into to the abyss. An ongoing theme is SY's difficulty adjusting his worldview to new information. He constantly assumes that the characters motivations are the same as those written in PIDW before he transmigrated and believes that what he read in PIDW, despite being from the biased and limited POV of the protagonist, is a truthful reflection of reality. So when Binghe returns from the abyss SY runs with his initial characterization of the protagonist and does everything he can to escape from him and save himself. The rest of the book involves the slow unveiling of the true situations around him, from learning the backstories of characters who weren't developed in PIDW to seeing how his actions have changed the people around him. Eventually misunderstandings are cleared and SY and Binge get together, though not before some nearly cataclysmic events.

Overall I liked the story's concept and themes, though the execution was questionable is some areas. Binghe's romance with SY was a particular weak point. After his blackening, Binghe is quite possessive and forceful with his romantic intentions and genuinely attempts to force SY in bed at one point. Furthermore, SY's self-image is that of a solidly straight man and when he does eventually get together with Binghe he seems uncomfortable and reluctant to engage in intimacy. I understood this as the author intending to write SY as oblivious to his developing feelings, going from abstract fanboy, to doting teacher and friend, and eventually to lovers in a slow realization of his feelings at the end. However, the manner of execution means it reads more like he was guilted into a relationship with a man he loves in a more admiring/fatherly fashion. I personally felt more chemistry between SY and Liu Qingge, who is a total badass and is much more respectful of Shen Yuan's feelings and agency. From MXTX's other books I kinda gather that she has a thing for dubcon but it's definitely not for everyone, so just be aware.

If you read Scum Villain I'd highly recommend also reading the extras, which add a lot by filling in more backstories and adding post-canon content. The "Bing-mei VS Bing-ge" and "Return to Childhood" extras expand nicely on SY's and Binghe's relationship, which does finally start falling into a healthier dynamic. "Yue Qingyuan and Shen Qingqui" was great as well, covering the sad progression of their interpersonal relationship throughout the original PIDW storyline. It helped showcase the original SQQ's role as a tragic villain – its easy to understand how his traumatic early life shaped his descent into bitterness and self-destructive tendencies, struggling to deal with his pain and insecurities by lashing out at others and ultimately digging his own grave. In many ways he serves as a foil to Binghe, who shares a similar past and also blackened into cruelty in PIDW but was able to somewhat heal and live a happier life when SY intervened with love and care. I actually would have liked this extra to be in the main story as it fills in the SQQ's backstory much better. <<less

It was ok I guess. Nothing earth shattering. The ML wasn't at all fleshed out well. He seemed really one dimensional with nothing much except 'shizun shizun' in his brain. The story was also pretty blah. By the time I reached the middle chapters I was yawning and wondering if I should just directly skip to the end. Not even close to MXTX's other novels.

I really really really love this story. Not only because it's my first ever BL novel to read but also because of the ✨plot✨ and the characters. Sure not everyone may like this (as I've seen on some reviews) since people have different taste but it sure does my cup of tea. I agree to that one review that it's a balance of comedy and drama.

And to those who are comparing the characters or the novel itself to the author's newer works, Let me remind you that every story has... more>> a different genre and there's a thing called "tags" so you'll get a heads up about what's the story is up to. And why compare it when it's made to be different? If a certain story or character keeps having the same characteristics, Ain't that too redundant and bland? Ain't it just the same story and characters just with their names change? That's why stop comparing and saying that character "blah2x" from this or that novel is better than this character's novel. <<less

  1. Well, I will write an incredibly short review to just tell you about what you are getting into. Its a wacky story and the plotlines are an absolute mess but its supposed to be like that, even the MC acknowledges that fact, I got pretty confused in parts of the story but I think I got the hang of it. The romance is fairly one sided and till the end, the MC had fatherly love for the ML, the MC himself states that he only thought of ML as his Son.

    BUT,

Its so funny, it has a lot of humor and the MC is sarcastic and logical. The book many times doesn't take itself seriously and I recommend you read it for the comedy, the side characters are quite likeable and I think they just add to the comedy factor. But keep in mind that this is a MXTX novel so, it comes with its fair share of angst and tragic scenes that may make you cry.

In short, I loved it! It was a fun read and I feel like that's all that matters to me

Shen Qingqiu (SQQ/MC) : The "Why are you running?" meme
Luo Binghe (LBH/ML) : Big Enough (but change the "AAAAAAA---" to "SHIZUUUNNNN---") meme.

That's it. That's the whole book.

.....I'm just kidding XD I finished this series last year. Thank you very much to the translators who picked (it got official English release now) this book! This series is the 1st that I can't put down when I started reading and the starting point where I read danmei (literally) religiously like I never did before. I actually read some of Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation previously but can't get the mood to proceed after chapter 1. Will definitely continue it and start Heaven's Official Blessing (both are works after this by same author) one day though XD

This series got a hilarious transmigrated-into-the-book-I-read MC, puppy ML (all those Bingpup fanarts are so cute), caring sect leader and notice-me-shixiong Liu Qingge. Both aside of LBH that can be a part of SQQ's harem (also that one kind gongzi and that overly-kind snake) should the book is geared towards that. Sadly, it doesn't but that doesn't mean I won't ship them. Hehehe -got stabbed by LBH-

The plot is quite light even with all the fights, drama and level of obsession, one of my favorite troupe, LBH have towards SQQ. Though I have to say it's kinda hard to see the part where SQQ starts falling for LBH since what he's been doing all the time is doing the task System gives as well as trying not to be sliced by LBH. The 'ML is mostly OP in the story except during certain parts and only weakness is MC' is another of my favorite troupe hence why I really enjoy this series. A funny MC also helps in the immersion of the story; the face-slapping as well as threatening and debating with his System over the course of the story adds color to it. He even face-slapped the 'God' of the story (won't spoil anything though). Bro, he's become more pitiful after you roasted him that much XD Side CP is a good laugh addition as well XD

I'll stop now or else this will turn into an essay since I really do love this series XD If you don't mind the above, give this a try. Sure, author's other works are much popular than this one but pretty sure you'll enjoy this as well!...I hope XD

This novel is a very fun read and I recommend it even if you're new to the genre. I didn't expect so many jokes to hit and I laughed my ass off on several occasions reading this, but at the same time there were some badass moments that hooked me. All in all your enjoyment will really depend on how much you enjoy a relationship between a very possessive ML and MC who is constantly screaming inside.

If I'm being honest, this is probably a 4/5 for me but it's the enjoyment that I felt that bumps it up to a 5. I really do think everyone should read this because it's a work of art. For some reason, out of all of MXTX's novels this is the one that I can re-read the most. I just always end up thinking about it.

Summary: Shen Yuan (MC) was an avid reader and critic of a novel and while he cursed it often, he still read every chapter and... more>> analyzed the crap out of them! However, when he reaches the end of the story, he actually chokes and dies from anger from how bad the ending was! When he wakes, he finds himself in the body of one of the antagonists in the story, Shen Qingqiu, the shizun of the protagonist who is going to end up as a human stick for the way he treated the protagonist. The MC has a system that tells him to fix the plot holes of the story but he can't deviate too far lest he be punished. As a result, he tries to treat the protagonist, Luo Binghe (ML), a little better without disrupting the entire story line. However, things don't go the way he planned??? Because somehow the ML is obsessed with him.

So this is indeed one of those stereotypical villain-system novels where the ML gets bent but I have to say that it's different! I think this novel exemplifies the genius of MXTX's writing. While it is her first novel and it's a bit immature in a lot of ways, you can tell that she was exploring a lot of different things while writing this.

Spoiler

My goodness, the one chapter that was literally only comments from people from the 'real' world. Breaking the third wall was crazy. And the constant third wall breaks from the MC were also way too hilarious. MXTX was definitely poking fun at a lot wuxia and system novels in a smart way

[collapse]

The humor in this is definitely what makes it so hilarious! Unknowingly, the MC (a very straight man or so he claims) ends up with a harem of men who like him and the ML who is supposed to have a harem of women ends up obsessed with the shizun who supposedly hates him! The irony!!! Honestly, just the MC's personality is reason alone to read this. He's a walking contradiction and way too funny. It's also really interesting how MXTX decided to give us some glimpses at the original goods (aka the former Shen Qingqiu) to show us why things turned out the way they did. And the side characters add so much to this story.

I'm aware that this is a polarizing novel and definitely not everyone's cup of tea (the ML is very much a yandere but he's an endearing one), but if you like transmigration stories, I do think this one is a fun read. It's just very entertaining with how ridiculous everything is and I can't get it out of my head. Worth giving a try in my humble opinion! <<less

Lord... I love Transmigration novels, but this one really did it for me. The writing is spectacular, especially the inside thoughts of our main protagonist, Shen Yuan. He's so chaotic. Not to mention, I cannot count the nights when I went back to Chapters 40-43. That really did it for me. I read way too many fanfictions involving those scenes, overall... I would 21/10 reread this again. It's good... Mo Xiang Tong Xiu is back at it again (I am sad, depressed, and dying of laughter).

This story is a work of art.

I have read the novel and watched the animation, and seriously, this is one of my favourite BL novels.

Yes, I know that the story is pretty cliche (I will admit I enjoy cliches more then others), the storyline is somewhat messy, and the side characters undergo minimal development. I still found myself loving this novel despite that.

I mostly loved the comidical POV that the MC gives. I do enjoy angst,

Literally most of the female characters s**ked absolute balls and the age gap at the start of the novel is definitely questionable. I don't think I need to explain why the age gap feels wrong, but I can go into detail how shitty the female characters were written. First of all, the female characters can be divided into three groups : antagonistic (as in rivals kind of), the only ones who are chill but end up fetishizing the two main characters, which iiisss absolutely f*cking gross, and the extras who... more>> are thirsty for the main characters. If this was real life, shipping two fictional people together would be fine as long as you're not going overboard. Shipping two real life people, however, especially if you're doing it simply because they're homosexual, is oh god so f*cking disgusting and dehumanizing to gay/queer people (not to mention creepy). I'm not surprised about all the female characters/extras being lazily written because this is a BL novel, but it's still disappointing when taking into account the general quality of this novel. Whenever this happens, it just makes me feel as if the author is one of those cringey fujoshi pick me's that nobody really likes. When you see these type of characters, just ignore them and actually condemn their behaviour/actions as to not end up like them. Trust me. I've met fujoshis who were like this in the past.

Spoiler

Nevertheless, the story is still entertaining and I really liked the Shang Qinghua ark, although I feel like the author should've made more content for them since Mobei Jun's feelings for him were never elaborated on.

Despite it being MXTX's first book, this was the very last one I read. This book pokes fun at not just online novels, but CRAP-written online novels that I'm sure we've all been subjected to. I know I've read stuff that I just looked at and knew 'gotta read this with the knowledge that it'll require me poking holes into my brain so I forget things that are important so the author can change things up later on'. It also makes light-hearted fun out of the fujoshi stereotype, making a clear distinction between those who are normal and can still ship people, versus those CRAZIES we sometimes see.

The characters are dull at the start, but as SQQ starts to see the characters in the novel as ACTUAL PEOPLE and starts to see himself as a part of this world, it because even better. Unlike some other stories where the characters are just FORCED to stay in their transmigrated novels, here, SQQ has the choice to stay or go. But he chooses to stay, as the relationships and life he's built for himself here, become so incredibly meaningful to him. I love the side characters; Yue QingYuan, Liu QingGe, Qi QingQi, Shang QingHua, and so many more.

Love this novel - read it if you wanna have a laugh (but lbr, this book from SQQ's P.O.V is comedy, but from LBH's it'd be a tragedy, like ouch) <<less

Just like the other 2 MXTX novels, this novel did not disappoint. However, it does pale in comparison to the great masterpieces MDZS and TGCF. Why? Because the MC was transmigrated and bound to a system so I did not feel his emotions to the ML (not transmigrated) that deeply. I do love transmigration novels but for SVSS, I think it would be more satisfying as a normal one. Shen Qingqiu (MC) is your fav jade white, elegant and lofty immortal shizun while the ML reminds me of a stray... more>> dog.
