Jiang Zhen crossed into ancient times and became the old bachelor eldest Jiang who was neglected by his whole family in Hexi Village.

He was born into a good family, but the eldest Jiang was busy all year and couldn’t even eat a full meal. His two younger brothers could marry a wife, but he was starved to death… Jiang Zhen felt it was unbearable.

You don’t want to feed me? OK, I will kill the chicken myself.

You don’t even give me a glimpse of food? It doesn’t matter, the door of the granary will be opened as soon as I kick it.

You want to tell me that I am unfilial? Ok, I will immediately take the knife to the village and slash people, and let the yamen officer catch all of us.

Jiang Zhen became a local tyrant in the village. He also saw the “ugly” ger who could not get married in the village.

Future father-in-law: “Jiang Zhen is always wandering around our house. Is he planning to rob our house?”

The future mother-in-law: “What to do? Jinge can’t beat him!”

Zhao Jinge’s face was hot… Dad, the wild rabbit that I brought back today is what he gave…

I totally recommend reading this story.

It's a great story that knows when to end, leaving me completely satisfied. I enjoyed the entire journey. I like how it tried to be grounded, with the main character facing difficulties securing his children's lives and protecting them from war. Even though, in the end, everything is thrown out, and he manages to solve all his troubles in a unrealistic way. However, it's still more realistic than other novels where everything goes as the main character wants."

4 stars. I enjoyed the story and MC interaction with ML. The family drama was a headache for me. Too much abuse of filial obedience was used by awful family made me skip parts. But reading his efforts to have a better life with a family he loves was worth bumping into the frustrations of his other bad experiences. His wife ML was so sweet and his passion for him was something I looked forward to reading. However, the later half became darker in storytelling. Politics, beliefs, human rights, etc... more>> was becoming depressingly too much but I guess that is the maturity of the story. <<less

I very rarely have read a Chinese webnovel where the main characters actually have setbacks that they have to fight their way through. There is no drama between the main couple and the story is quite well written. I liked the ending quite a lot as well and this novel was satisfying from beginning to end. I rarely rate anything five stars, but since I never had to throw my hands up in annoyance at how something was handled, I did for this one!

I gave this book an 4 instead of a 5 because I actually wanted to give it a 3.9 because although I like it a bit, they’re a fews things I really had trouble digesting. I’m glad the author let Zhao Jinge develop but personally I feel uncomfortable with self effacing characters and that was one thing that bother me with the buildup for ZJ. And it was clear to me that although it was well wrapped under the guise of caring Jian Zhen was in fact controlling and shaping... more>> Jinge to suit his aesthetic, I guess this author did it in a more humane and not too controversial way. But because of my real life experience I felt quite uncomfortable because it kept jumping at me as controlling and it ZJ was younger I would have even totally claimed it to be grooming. The other things that bother me was the blatant xenophobia and forced assimilation. Although the author dressed it up as improving the world and whatnot, all those chapter made me uncomfortable because it read like a colonizer trying to justify their stance. Once again this is a personal opinion based on real life experience trauma so much of this just jump at me and read that way. I respect the fact that many readers didn’t truly read that deeply into the all situation and just fluffily enjoyed that novel. Because at the end of the day it was a really cute and mostly sane ABO as we know how toxic most ABO are. So I will say that future readers should be aware that some parts of this story may rub you the wrong way. <<less

I've lost count to how many times I've re-read it, it’s just so good. It’s so satisfying seeing MC and ML's domestic life as well as the demise of annoying characters. Don't think just read it for once!

This is definitely a book where you have to ignore a lot of logic. People have mostly mentioned everything.

The swift rose to the top was unrealistic, yes, but way more realistic than many other get-rich-quick stories I have read. It was just plausible enough to ignore.

SAX was a shame. A complete and utter shame. He had such a nice introduction, but the moment he fell in infatuation with JZ, he crashed and burned.

Tbh, this might be controversial, but I didn't mind the note that ... more>>
Spoiler

the choice of r*pe vs other torture was not because he was pretty or ger etc, but because he cared.

[collapse]

Regardless, it was just the final touch on a character already destroyed by the author.

The racism and colonialism were sadly all too clear. The MC even acknowledged it, he just didn't care. It was effective, useful, convenient, he was going to do it. It was ugly, and if I hadn't enjoyed the book so much before, and known it was ending soon, I wouldn't have gritted my teeth and ignored it. Fortunately, I'm good at ignoring things and it was brief enough for me. If it had gone on even a bit more about it, or brought it up earlier, I might have dropped the novel, but what can you do.

Same with the emphasis on modernization (westernizing yourself before the west could do it, and then claiming that is not westernization because you came up with it). It was a bit of a fail. Some modern things are better, some aren't, some are a matter of taste. Why you got to empose your taste on everyone else?

One point no one mentioned was that the 'many years later' arc, while very gratifying, left me with my suspension of disbelief very strained. I may be a very pessimistic person, but values change over the years, families change, things don't remain in perpetual golden age. A more likely version of events would have been the future generations trying to overthrow the government rather than stay as puppets, the three 'sibling' governments falling out with each other after the years etc etc. Not a big deal, it was just an extra, no problem, it just happened to be a bit of a peeve. <<less

I'm very tempted to drop this novel.

Quality of writing, not translation, dropped around chapter 50: Author started padding boring, small events with about four too many sentences increasingly often to increase word count.

Characterization for ML is very limited and he seems to have very little agency.

I have a hard time believing that MC actually cares about ML but just really likes the way he looks and what he can do for MC. I want to know if they'll grow as a couple and ML's self esteem ever rises to a... more>> point where he doesn't just roll over for MC whenever because he's "ugly" and really worried about being left behind, but after 62 chapters and a wedding, I feel like a reader should have already gotten a sense of that, especially if they're expected to read 100+ more chapters.

What was also a disappointment to me was the fade-to-black or abruptly cut-out s*x scenes. I understand censorship is at play here, but if you can't even feature them, why include unpleasant off-screen references (ger ML describes soreness after wedding night as similar to diarrhea and that it hurt a little but wasn't too bad like, girl, you can have more than "not too bad") instead of focusing on other ways to show intimacy and sensuality?

Branching off of that, the MC in his previous life is established as being gay, but this has to be the straightest queer pairing I've ever seen: Sweet, demure, hardworking ger who's gorgeous but doesn't know it and is just thankful to be picked by the MC vs. Brash, boundary-stomping, emotionless (except for anger, of course!) MC.

I'd consider this novel average or a bit below average. Fine enough for a few hours of reading, but probably not worth sticking around for ~180 chapters, in my opinion. <<less

Rating 4.2

I was not expecting to enjoy reading this so much (Rating and comments had my expectations bit lower). Well, I Usually read this kind of novel for the Romance, so it was pretty good and fascinating.

I really enjoyed this novel, especially the first half and the ending part with extra. The story was kinda down to earth (In a good way)....... until we jump to whole rule the country....... though it was too much and I kind of knew this typical sh*t might happen, I still did really... more>> enjoy the whole journey of MC from being a small poor village person to the ruling the country.

I also really liked how MC was not know it all kind of MC.
Spoiler

Usually MC Transmitted from modern world has knowledge of things that normal citizens would not usually have, unless they did research about it before or they work on profession related to that. But here, MC wasn't like that. He only has the basic knowledge that everyone of us have. Considering his past profession, it's bit normal for him to be good at fight and know about how to survive in wild as well as some basic medic skill. Also many of the things he introduced is in actual very basic things many of us know. Though he did invent lots of things too, but he just gave the basic idea and it was actually people there who made those things possible.... As for his business profession.... it depend on one capability rather than knowledge. If one had talent for that, anyone can be Businessman, Though we can see, he's not good with paper work.

Well this was good until the story went to ruling of country. This sh*t sound easy but it's not easy to govern a country. In this the author went over the top like others....... but I enjoyed it still.

[collapse]

I can see lot of people having problem with MC Character but I find him interesting. A unique MC that actually a baddie, selfish and shameless too who is good to those good to him. Worst to those bad to him. beat and threatened others if necessary........ I don't mind baddie MC once in a while, especially not when they treat their partner good (ps: he never beaten or threatened people who didn't disturbed him or cause trouble for him)

Also ML is so Fine AF. I really like manly uke/shou with big body. Our ML, a ger is actually just like man, handsome, manly, strong and dependable...... He is not only strong but hardworking too. He got soft personality and has inferior complex and insecurities and though I am not fan of this kind of Characters but I really like him because despite his inferior complexity he still stand with MC and is not willing to leave MC, unless MC leave him or abandoned him. He doesn't let his inferior complexity get him no matter how much of a good looking, talented and better than him, his love rivals are (Honestly feel annoying when one try to leave other due to their inferior complexity, though I can understand them too but it's still annoying). MC is so lucky to have ML as his wife and vice versa.

I really liked MC Journey and MC and ML romance even more. The romance is indeed very sweet plus the babies
Spoiler

I love mpreg stories with babies. And they had 3 babies, a girl, a boy and a ger. Plus watching MC in father mode was really sweet

[collapse]

Though this story has negative shits too and other things that might trigger some sensitive people, I don't mind since it didn't touch my bottom line but it does felt a bit dragged but at the end, It was satisfying, making me smile. Especially the ending is so satisfying and a really one of the best ending for me.
Spoiler

The eldest jiang finally had a happy Ending 😭😭. I was waiting for it. For him to be happy and find Love. It's rare to see authors write about OG soul and giving them happy ending. I am happy Eldest Jiang wasn't forgotten.

Also ML reincarnated into modern world and finding ML and connecting time loop........ I love it. Really one of the best satisfying ending.

Thanks to the translator for translating this novel ❤️. <<less

Im glad I finally got to finish this!

It's refreshing to have someone who the author acknowledges over the course of the story as only special bc of the circumstances.

Could our gong lead be a general? No, he is just a regular soldier but human knowledge is constantly building on itself so in the past it's like he had a cheat sheet to help him give ideas to others who can better accomplish them and get a share of the benefits.

Like a commendation for sharing the knowledge of sterilization and getting stitches on bad cuts.

Common modern knowledge but very helpful in a time before it was known.

Who was the Ugly Husband? I thought it was the shou but idk at the end I think it's the gong now.

Extras

Also, when they find themselves in the modern world he came from, he's kinda a dummy and his lovely wife was the real genius. Which honestly should have been obvious all along.

I have read this for almost 2 years waiting for updates every week.
often enough I took breaks to reread fromt he start tot he current chapters because I lost the plot.
And honestly? After rereading this for probably the 5th time I can truly say that this is such a good Cultivation story.
It is similar to "Back To The Beginning Of Ming To Do Charity" with how good the characters are and how mature some of the topics are dealt with. Especially in the aspect of the MC actually having a mature mindset on topics like equality, science and life.

Wow, that was..a lot xD

Honestly, the writing is not that great, a lot of time skipping or glossing over details here and there, and there are things I find illogical.. BUT for some reason, I find myself so engaged that I binged read it for the whole day.

I thought at first, it would be just the usual farming story where they go from poor to rich,

Spoiler

but no, he goes from a farmer to a founder of a country lol. Don't get me wrong, there's a whole bunch of plot points before the MC get there (tho yeah, the author kind of glossed over some details, but it's not that dislikeable for me, just fast pace).

[collapse]

Overlooking the not so fleshed out things, I find the whole plot progression unique and interesting. And because it's kinda fast pace at the end, we were saved from the pain of neverending conflicts, heartburns, and blood-vomiting.

'Cause, let's be honest, if the author did not got lazy and decided to detailed every plot points step by step, we might be getting about 500 chapters or more xD.

What I also like from this novel, is it doesn't only revolve all the time around the main characters. It gave life to the people around them and their own story, and how these people contributed to the world and future the MC is building.

Spoiler

And I love that the author gave a 2nd chance to the original JZ to live a fulfilled and happy life. That poor guy is so pitiful, he deserves a good ending. Also, there are extras too about MC and ML in the modern world where MC originally came from!

[collapse]

Spoiler

I would also like to specially mention this scene:

JZ: *smiles* ZJ, we might become fugitives from now on.

ZJ: *looks at him solemnly and with trust* ok.

I dunno but that scene makes me go "Aww 🥺". Yes, ZJ was a very loyal and virtuous person, but it still reminded me of how much strong their feelings and companionship are towards each other. And, to think that JZ was originally an unambitious person but because he found a family that he wants to protect dearly, he gather more strength and climb up higher. I find that a lot of his thoughts were quite human, although, he wouldn't be able to make his plans possible if he didn't have the advantage of being a modern man and a veteran soldier. But I really admire his straightforward and honest thinking. He be like:

I'm so poor, this place is backwards and I want my wife to live a good life, what do I do?

Sell some things and probably go out to the sea.

Higher ups are bad people and this country is doomed to fail, what do I do?

Go to another island/continent and perhaps, establish a country with its own rules while I'm at it.

Lol

[collapse]

Oh, btw, I saw some other commenters who pointed out about the xenophobic vibes from this novel. Well, I'm not surprised. I find that chinese authors tend to have this kind of bias and patriotic view of their country that is clearly reflected in their writing. I might not completely agree, but I do understand and respected their views.

(If the place I come from is not a shithole of a country, I might develop patriotic feelings too lol) <<less

I like Jiang Zhen madman moments, they are quite satisfying, defeating the villains. It is totally one of the interesting/important point. I also like Zhao Jinge, his personality and thinking is worth to admire as a person. Besides, the amount of character developments and plot twists in the story?? Just amazing.

Towards the end I feel like the author is not pressing the brake very smoothly. Suddenly I'm reading the extra, whyyyyy

I did enjoy this story quite a bit. I also skipped any parts that bored me or the whole first arc with the imperial envoy cause it was s*upid.

But I am also quite biased towards Japan 😂 I love Japan so I don’t like the way it was portrayed here but meh whatever I just ignored it and finished the story.

I would have liked it a lot more if it focused more on raising the children towards the end rather than the ramped up drama

I finished this novel a while ago, and it has been such a comforting read for me. I think I read it several times already while waiting for the translation 😂

Some aspect may be exaggerated. For example like how the MC are able to make such a huge sum of money by selling seafood. In reality it doesnt make sense, so please lower your expectations a little bit on that part.

All in all, I give this 5/5

The author’s book is always good. But this is one of my favorite. The MC is the gong, super pe*vert and violent (in a good way). Our ML is the shou, very cute and shy, but strong enough to learn how to get rid of his inferiority for him standing proudly beside his husband and giving his best (including cooperating with our MC’s pe*verted behavior 🤣) to MC.

MC is ex special army who transmigrated into the world where men, women, and ger living. The original body was depressed and died... more>> from mental abuse from his parent. Once MC taking over the body, he teach good lesson to those who wronged him and separated from his cancerous family. Our cute ML is a ger who decide to live as a man, supporting his old parent to live, giving up his dream of marriage because he was too macho according to ger’s beauty standard in this world. Never he imagine in the first place that this macho appearance (and his kind nature) was the one who make our shameless MC pursue him. It cracks me up when reading how our shameless MC keep eating his tofu when pursue him. Later on our MC keep getting strong and stronger to protect him and his beloved. This is a journey of a man who strive for the best things he could give to protect his family.

The story is funny, the face slapping is good, the girls was not painted as all evil (like in few bad BL novel).. Overall I will give this 4, 5 rating. <<less

I actually like a lot of the story. I like that Jiang Zhen is very loyal and attentive towards his family and a very straightforward and upright when it comes to his employees. Zhao Liu is pretty funny as a character for me. I think I had a lot more to say about the novel but rn it's just shrouded by my feelings towards how the author handled Shen Anxiu's character and what was done to him after because of that Feng bastard. He would have been a great character... more>> to develop and may have even been a good friend to Jiang Zhen and Zhao Jinge. Maybe even an uncle to little Mingzhu. But the potential there was totally wasted. I'm gonna put this story down for now... Might come back to it later idk... <<less

Read it a while back, second of the transmigration into ancient times novel i've read.

All the same basic plot: MC is not well treated in family, wants to break with main family, make a fortune by using modern knowledge.. Because of course, he's someone qualified in modern times.

But still, enjoyable to read because MC is a seme for a change.

Very fluff I like it a lot at the beginning I really liked MC and the fact that he didn't have some niche hobbies in the modern world like ancient medicine concoction, alchemy, civil engineering, ancient languages or some other stuff that are fairly common in other novels...

However later in the novel he becomes too "powerful" and it stops making sense altogether. And the latter part of the novel made me wonder Tf did I just read...

The ML is really cute and at the very beginning it really made sense... more>> that he was insecure, out of nowhere his life changed to quickly for him to keep up thus making him very insecure but I seriously couldn't stand... the author.

For some reason the author has the need to describe how every person in this world thinks ML is ugly and he doesn't deserve MC.

at some point people get to know ML and acknowledge his efforts and the place that he has in MC's life and everyone but himself is aware that the MC does like him and place him above anything else, it gets frustrating ML inferiority complex and distrust in to the MC.

Anyway it's a light read, it may be a little refreshing the lack of some of the troupes present in other novels of this genre but the ones that are present nullify the novel's potential <<less
