In the post-apocalyptic world, Xie Sen was bitten to death by a zombie and woke up again as Xie Sen, the famous wastrel of Beast Star City – a child abandoned by the Beast God. After his 18th birthday, the contract beast did not awaken. This world did not have zombies, the air quality was also good, Xie Sen was very satisfied. As for the vegetables and plants, they were few and expensive. But he did not care, he had a plant system, so what was he afraid of?

The only thing is, the system had insufficient energy, and if Xie Sen wanted to plant, he needed to provide energy.

System: Another strategy is to let people appreciate you. When the gratitude energy reaches a certain amount, you can unseal a plant.

Xie Sen was willing to put himself out there to get points. But his strategy stalled when he met a handsome man named Maine Cox. Wasn’t this the man who was the ultimate villain boss and almost destroyed the Beast Planet in the book he read before he died?

MC is a sweet boy, very healing. At the beginning it seems like he doesn't have three brain cells to rub together, but as the story grows and he gets more confident in the common sense of the new world he's landed in, he starts contributing meaningfully to conversations and group projects. He is very cute, and there are animals that act like Pokémon!

The story is a good palate cleanser after a course of dog blood. It's not bad to occasionally read about a bumbling little foodie having nice things... more>> drop into his lap. However, I can't possibly give it four stars and above -- I can excuse the occasional unrealistic detail or gaping plot hole, but the author also cheats quite a bit by glossing over central events in favour of easy but meaningless happenings, much like a restaurant owner diluting his sauces to save on expenses. Three stars. <<less

The summary is kinda off.

The story doesn't focus on him coming from another world, nor does it focus on how MC stops ML from becoming a villain.

It's like a slice of life? The story is more on how the MC brings back plants to the interstellar world and his lovely relationships with the beasts and the friends he makes along the way.

The ending is absolutely so lovely. Actually brought a smile to my face.

3/5*

I preferred the other novels from this author, although I didnt like many of them either.

This novel had several things I really disliked:

1. Such gloomy ML. Very insecure about losing MC. And constantly saying creepy things like I cant ever lose you, you must never leave me. Most BL love is somewhat obsessive, Im used to that, but here it gave me a crazy, on-the-brink-of-being-psycopath kind of feeling whilst there wasn't a good explanation why ML should be like this. Sure, ML had no one when he grew up. He... more>> was abandoned and neglected, but mostly it was his own character and personality. He is not someone who can cheer himself up.

2. The System personality made the whole novel like a childrens story. Constantly praising MC for being smart etc as if MC is a kindergarten kid. It makes the whole feel of the novel immature.

3. Same with all the contract beasts and MCs friends. Their interaction with MC is as if reading primary school/jr high school kids interact with eachother. Another story of this author about Mermaids gave me the same feeling. The MC there also interacted with his fellow mermaids as if they are in jr high school. All in all, this novel just give me a very immature feeling.

4. A too over the top villain, Julos, MLs half brother, that somehow could get away with terrible crimes, even killing others, a son of another powerful family, in the training camp he was sent. I get that villains are s*upid and plot devices in these formualic interstellar stories. But this one is really too much. All his crimes and how he got away with it doesnt make any sense.

Conclusion, disappointing story that from story line to character design to plot and writing style are all 2D at best. <<less

It's... quite disappointing actually. I expected more from its rating and had decided to read to the end before making up my mind, but oh man I am pretty disappointed.

This novel may as well change its title to "beast tamer" instead of plant tamer. The majority, like 70% of the time, the story relies on the taming beasts. The MC is very Mary Sue with the wrong golden finger. Like, bro I expect him to research plants or something instead of becoming a pseudo-vet/pet caretaker because he is a "plant... more>> beast master". The golden finger where beasts "feel closer to nature and thus like him" is also too excessive. I would accept it if it was just so that the beasts would feel goodwill or have good impression towards him, but the MC is more like a walking beast narcotic/tranquilizer, he was even able to "calm down" a beast in a drug-induced mania just by having it in his presence!

The plot development is abrupt and the jump from one to another is too sudden (at least in my opinion). The author also seem to casually insert something, forget about it for a dozen chapter or so, and then proceed to insert that thing suddenly as if it was always there (or sometimes they just forget about it forever).
Spoiler

For example, at the start didn't the story implies that the ML will got revenge and replace the Cox family with the Yan family? but in the end it was just a change of power from a Cox to another (unknown) Cox while the Yan family just got forgotten.

[collapse]
And Oh God the plot holes, there are so so many I don't know where to start.

There are also so many things that is underutilized. The MC is from a post-apocalyptic world, but it affects him very little and doesn't shape his character or capability. The transmigration to the book setting also doesn't play important role, I mean MC doesn't know the book details aside from the ML story details.

Also, both MC and ML are super generic. Personal opinion and preferences, feel free to disagree with me or correct me if I get something wrong. The ML at least have some character and his background is clear, but MC on the other hand, just feels super vague in character to me. What he does before the apocalypse, his major, his hobby, his family and relationships, his character, none of them are even hinted. I can't really grasp his character beyond the smiling happy go lucky dude whose background is blank. In my opinion, having Bai Jiao as the MC is actually more appropriate as he is a physician who actually want to deal with herbs and have some character. In fact, the major reason this story just doesn't do it for me is because of the MC. He is quite s*upid and have low EQ (or IQ) at the first 40 chapters or so, and honestly reading his internal monologue just irritates me (personal opinion).

Spoiler

His reactions and denial when he was told he was a female just irritates me so much. I get that he just doesn't identify as one and denies it, but the way he reacts is just so annoying to me argh

[collapse]

It gets better the after that though, he became a decent MC whose IQ isn't offline too much. However, there are occasion where I can see the s*upidity from the earlier chapters come again sometimes.

Spoiler

Especially in the planet Blue arc. God I really don't like that arc. First, the way he deals with the auction robbery just make me go ????. Before the deadly water incident I was like "bro do you think that is enough as a compensation for the robbery and deal? afterall the other party will lose a lot from that." But then after the incident he offers and actually signed to give the other party priority for buying plants from Brandt star. I was really confused, how come a person who, at that time, is not someone with proper position in the government making decisions or a company producer of said plants (the plants that were going to be sold were still produced by the institute), make major decision about priority customers. How the prince was actually entertaining the idea also confused me, though that is probably the golden halo of MC.

[collapse]

In addition, I actually feel that MC values ML as much as ML values MC, and at some point, dismissive towards ML (though this might not be because of the character itself but the writing).

Spoiler

I am referring to that one time where MC falls into coma for 3 days and upon waking up to very worried ML, he just said a few words and go on his day as usual. Like bro, your man has abandonment issues and very afraid he was going to lose you and instead of consoling and assuring him you just said "hey I am fine actually, and better than before" and go on his day.

[collapse]

Not everything about this novel is unejoyable to me though. Starting from the 40/50-ish chapters, the story is quite enjoyable, with a lot of slice of life fluff, aside from certain parts. The contract beasts are pretty cute and the reaction of people to food is pretty amusing. The extra about Huo Zheng was a pleasant surprise and very cute though. And for those, I would rate it 3/5. Otherwise with how the MC is and the plot development, I would rate it 2/5. <<less

It's good. Not really that unique among other novels but if you're bored and willing to read, it's good and you can finish it in a few hours.

There wasn't much conflict and the story is just filled with fluff.

The extras was a bit mind blowing. The ships, :))))

Baby got a ship too. Heheheheeh.

This is a light and fluffy read, but I was not in the mood for that when I read it. It just felt like tepid lukewarm water to me. The MC has an OP ability and is really lucky, but I found that he wasn't intelligent or honestly even capable without his golden fingers or the ML. He was the essence of a Mary Sue character.

Loved the animals.

Spoiler

The animals were so cute and I loved the live streaming bit.

I didn't get to finish this before and I forgot where I left off so I read this again.

I love this story.

The ending was a bit abrupt for me. There are tons of questions that still need answer for me. I would love for the MC and ML to have more special chapter but it seems like author is contented with it.

... more>> The translation is okay and completed already which is great!

I love this story so I really did my best to finish this in just a day.

I love it.

There are a lot of plot holes. The MC and ML is OP but it's bearable. There are also not enough struggles or problems in the story. <<less

100% pure sci fi fluff. Apocalyptic MC with a plant system transmigrates into a novel of modern people who contract with beasts. In their world, vegetables and fruits are rare, but the MC has a plant system, starting from poor orphaned boy to OP hero. Easy, fluffy read with sci fi elements and no angst or makjang drama. MC and ML are good together.

If you like other sci fi fluff such as Cub Raising Association, Raising Dragons in the Interstellar, Interstellar Super Doctor, etc. you'll like this one.

If you... more>> are looking for critical thinking, logical world building, realistic plots or suffering leads, please seek elsewhere. This is just simple fluffy enjoyment.

(After reading several of these kinds of sci fi BL novels, it's yet another there-are-no-women-so-men-and-fertile-female-type-men-are-the-only-procreating-relationship-option kind of reasoning/trope for the BL premise/world, but that's a general question I have about this genre...) <<less

No red flags.

After trying to read three other stories where the MC is a literal child or the ML is a as*hole it's refreshing to have a story where they are of the same age, and the MC speaks up and does his own thing even if the ML is jealous or possessive for no reason. He actually calls him out when he goes over the line.

I would have liked to see a bit more growth on the mental problems of the ml, and not that they are magically cured... more>> by the mpreg.

Good job author! This one is a good read on this genre <<less

MC dies during the Zombie Apocalypse, only to be transmigrated into a new host in an alternate SciFi world where there are only humans who were previously Beastmen that now can bond to other beasts.

Upon arrival, the MC still has his former Plant System following him around. And to get back the Plant System's powers, he has to retrieve all it's missing energy parts before he can use his plant powers again. In this new world, fresh produce of plants, vegetables, and fruit are scarce because of the current toxic... more>> environment. However, the planet used to have these produce.

Conceptually the World Building is interesting. However, it fails to make logical sense in many cases.

The planet cannot plant produce, yet trees and forests still exist. Not to mention there are many other planets in the solar system that could be used as resource planets. If nothing else, they could have taken the soil from that world and just made a green house on this planet, but the author just chose to go with that this planet is toxic and can't plant vegetation. So why don't they create farmlands on those resource planets and export/import those plants?

All the humans were previously Beasts that transformed to humans and cannot turn back, and are born with a tattoo that signifies their beast bond or something. If they can actually bond with that beast, their powers would get stronger. Males are born with the tattoo on one side, and females on the other side. Yet, their bodies are all shaped like males. It seemed a bit contrived to just force a BL type of world. In addition, since plants are unable to be planted, human birth rates are low, and etc. Aren't humans going to become extinct? And does it mean that all wild animals carnivorous then? The MC visits multiple planets, and they're are potential animals that can be contracted everywhere he goes. Does every planet have similar species of beasts and humans?

The more energy that the MC can gather, the more the system can produce varieties of plants. However, the MC would rather have others farm the plants naturally so he can eat their by products instead of producing his own. Even if he didn't want to farm his own extinct vegetables and fruits, he can always produce more by just spending his own energy.

The plot gets a bit repetitive at some point. MC gets a hint to where to collect energy, he goes, then attracts a lot of nice contract beasts, gets the energy, and brings these contract beasts back, gets a new system plant. This repeats about 5-6 times. In between that we get a lot text on social media comments on how amazing the contract beasts are, how amazing the MC is and etc.

As for the romance, it's cute and without much drama. The ML is the stereotypical almost blackened villain in the novel, and once he falls in love, he becomes the typical domineering & possessive cold type. He's pretty 1-dimesionional.

Overall, it's cute, but a bit underwhelming and full of plot holes. <<less

Loved their dynamic. The plot is fun and more slice of life. It was a very enjoyable read to me. I've read all of this author's works and this one is def one of my favorite. Overall

I enjoyed it a lot! It was like the right amount of most things. The writing and tone of the story is bright and a solid poor to rich travel to places to obtain things together with friends, cute and smart animals, unique and refreshing setting, wish fulfilment (of making lots of money and then using it to design your desired lifestyle, my dearest wish lol), a not repulsive romance, a system that isn't annoying but kinda interesting, lots and lots of natural environments, etc. Sure, there are lots... more>> of minor things that aren't perfect like some sentences the commenters type seem to be a typo because I genuinely do not understand, some transitions seem to the next scene seems to have been skipped, so it's a little jarring, certain minor things that could have been more tight but it's all minor and I don't really notice it. The story is pretty enjoyable to read, not too stressful or bland. I also like how the bad guys really did make me anxious for the MC but the time I was anxious was quite short. It was just a little jump to spice up the story but it is relatively quickly solved so the anxious feeling doesn't have time to become unpleasant haha.

Writing/Translation

The translation I read is from Exiled Rebels Scanlations. The writing is pretty okay. Like 8.5/10? There are a couple of odd pronouns in descriptions or explanations but it's not obvious and not jarring. Some statements, like one statement in the scene, by the netizens are not understandable at all but it doesn't affect the story at all. The rest is pretty good.

Pacing

It was all mostly okay and even. Just the last couple of chapters, the author kinda randomly focused on the MC’s fighting skills? It felt like the author actually wanted fighting with plants to be a thing throughout the story but it naturally focused on the contract animals and collecting gratitude points and left the development of fighting with plants to some training and quick fights. But after the main frictions were all dealt with, the author got excited to finally make the MC a strong fighter lol. It's just that the MC’s development was way too quick, only 2 chapters and he's the Fighting King lol.

Plot

The MC transmigrates to an interstellar world with little edible plants where humans have contract beasts based on the symbol that develops on their body. They have a lifelong bond after they contracted with each other. As a person with a plant system, the MC gives off a natural feeling that is calming, gentle and creates a closer bond with contract beasts. The system needs energy from gratitude by others to be of any use or to level up. Also, to save the MC from his death in his previous life, the system broke into fragments throughout the interstellar.

So, we follow the MC to earn money to survive, earn gratitude energy to live better by exchanging plants with the energy to eat and do battle with, and to be able to find the fragmented parts of the system and also make friends to just live better in this world. Along the way, he grows closer to the ML who's the big bad in a book he halfway read in the previous life. At first, he doesn't want the city he lives in to be destroyed and later, he finds the ML to be a nice guy and doesn't want him to suffer so much he turns into a villain.

Themes/What Story Tried to Achieve

The setting of Interstellar and the whole plant system and the contract beast worldbuilding are pretty interesting and refreshing to read about. I didn't much like all the other interstellar web novels I’ve read before because they were kinda bland? But this had just the right combination of stuff that the setting is a plus. It made the gathering of system fragments kinda fun and exciting to travel to new places. We don't stay at each new place long or explore them in much detail compared to other long adventure web novels but for this type of story, it's nice.

I quite like the whole slowly gathering energy and earning money part haha. All the moves made by the MC to do so make sense. There isn't a random exponential jump in earnings that feels like the author just put it there. The jump in money that did happen makes perfect sense because of the rarity of it all. The progression of the accumulation type of plot that happens here is taken up by the task of gathering all the system fragments. I was not bored once :) It was a happy feeling whenever the MC managed to achieve something haha.

Also, the big money venture where the MC is kinda like a passerby overseer is so cute, warm, and fun to read about. I love the happy, heartwarming feelings their presence adds to the story.

Characters

The MC is a good one. I like him over a lot of other Mc’s or other ukes I’ve been reading lol. He's a survivor of the zombie apocalypse but he's not an emotionless salted fish who doesn't want to do anything. He immediately works hard to earn money to live on and to earn gratitude energy to be able to find all the fragments. His personality is also a thinker and in such a way that I don't find him annoying. He acted like a normal adult lol. But he's also very relatable and it was easy to get invested in him and his goals. He is also relatively compassionate haha. He basically wasn't affected much by the end of the world experience lol. However, this can be a con. I would have liked him to be a bit more desensitised or used to gore and brutality because you know, zombies. But he has normal fears lol.

The ML is a clingy, jealous gong. He has a bad past and lots of betrayals and has latched on to the MC to survive. He's insecure that even this good thing will leave him and gets anxious about it. The MC understands and constantly communicates with the ML about it which is kinda nice. I don't find any parts of him that I dislike :). He's not unreasonable and you understand him too.

The friends and companions are all great. I wish there were more deeper scenes with them but the lightheartedness of this story is pretty good already. They are distinct and don't feel like props to hold up the story. The contract beast is such a blast though haha. Cute and fun.

I love how the bad guys are in the story. They are written as enough of a threat that I feel anxious whenever they do something bad but it is never too long before the bad thing is solved XD.

Good read to pass the time. Really loved the ML and MC relationship! I'm really happy that author didn't do the usual misunderstanding leads to plot development trope. ML had yandere tendencies but he mellowed out quite a bit since our MC always communicated with him properly! Also side pair Long Teng and Bai Jiao is super cute! The other 2 side... more>> cp in the extras were a surprise lol <<less

It started good but turned ridiculous/extreme for me.

The story started like a standard transmigration story; MC transmigrates into a "loser" person and proceeds to turn into OP with the help of a cheat system. Problem is there were too many plot holes and inconsistencies.

Spoiler

For example the people are beast people; they were beastkin that can turn into humanoids and back in the past but at some point in time they stopped turning into beasts anymore. But then the same people right now develop some beast pattern during adolescence and they are able to bond with that beast and get some abilities with that bond like getting stronger and fighting better. It is never explained how and why they get this bond when they themselves were beasts in the past.

Also they could freely switch between human and beast forms in the past. In fact there are still some planets where some people/beastkin can still switch between forms. But later when a beast turns into human, author told that once they are turned into human, it would be impossible to turn back into beast because this transformation would cause too much strain on the bones.

[collapse]

I also did not like MC and ML too much.

MC lived in a zombie apocalypse setting before transmigrating here and he is told to be a loner. In the beginning he carries living thru an apocalypse with him but later on it is completely forgotten and his personality and demeanor changes drastically.

Spoiler

For example when he first sees ML, he knows he is the villain of the story and is going to to kill a lot of people. Knowing the consequences of an apocalypse situation he decides to kill ML before he can cause damage. He takes some poison and nearly acts on it. But after this point his personality does a 180. He becomes an extremely good, understanding, and obedient person.

MC also keeps getting himself into situations where there is no merit or reason for him to meddle in. He then proceeds to be constantly out of sorts, doesnt know what to do, fumbles, flails and fails everything, and generally being out of his depth and needing assistance.

And most infuriating thing for me is that despite living thru an apocalypse, MC is written as having no survival instincts when he is transmigrated and he doesnt know how to fight properly.

He becomes a damsel constantly in distress.

And for ML; I simply do not like him. He is too controlling for my tastes. He doesnt even let MC to walk, and carries him around the house to be closer to him. This does not spell love to me, I feel suffocated just thinking about MC.

I understand the ML has abandonment issues but this does not give him an automatic pass to do as he pleases.

Slice of Life with hints of adventure! The MC transmigrates into an interstellar universe with a Plant System in his body. The Plant System is especially useful in this universe, as there’s a major shortage of plant-based foods everywhere (people of this universe mostly eat meat and nutrient solution made of non edible plant material since a lot of edible plant material are extinct). When starting out in the world, the MC is particularly poor. He doesn’t have family to rely on, nor does he have friends. And plant system... more>> needs to be slowly unlocked too — possible by earning the gratitude of others. As for the ML, he’s the villain boss in the original novel that the MC decides to stick to in order to prevent an apocalyptic future.

CHARACTERS: 8.5/10

Not gonna lie, the characters were oddly awkward at first. IDK how to explain it. Characterizations do improve tho. I think once you get through the 1/4th mark? After which, you get a couple of interesting side characters — though they unfortunately don’t always feature enough.

Xie Sen (MC)

The MC is particularly motivated to find a comfortable life for himself. And with Plant the Plant System, he’s pretty OP! As is mentioned in the tags, he’s the straight!uke type. So he’s pretty against his being a Female in this universe.

Meine (ML)

His personality was reallly awkward at first. But he’s the “big kid” type of person in my eyes. As an illegitimate child that had been pushed aside all his life, he lacks love and clings to the people he cares about. To everyone else, he’s cold and assertive. But to the MC, he’s coquettish.

ROMANCE: 8/10

I liked the romance! It was sweet in its own way and a bit funny. It’s far from my favorite type, but it had its charm.

SETTING: 8.5/10

This story has lots of fantasy elements. There’s the SYSTEM, which is a pretty OP golden finger. And there’s the Contract Beasts, which are intelligent creatures that can bond with humans (for the sake of fighting, usually). After landing in this world, MC finds out that the original owner was someone who never awakened a Beast Contract. But with his Plant System, he gets confused as a Plant Beast Type that has a high affinity with Beast Contracts.

The author obviously spent a lot of time on the setting! It’s a bit inconsistent. But I still enjoyed exploring this unique little universe! Especially since this is partly an adventure story.

PLOT: 8/10

This follows the story of the MC and his companions. There’s no primary plot focus, which is why I tagged it as Slice of Life. It really is just following the life of this transmigrator in this futuristic world with Fantasy Beast Elements.

RATING: 4.25/5

This is pretty fun to read in its own way. It definitely has its shortcomings, the author admits to that. But there’s noticeable improvement the further you go along! I recommend that you read it if you’re interested in the setting~

RANDOM THOUGHTS:

  • Personal Enjoyment: 3.5/5! Not necessarily my kind of story, but still fun since I read it through to the end.
  • Literary Level: Writing was awkward at first, 3/5! Translation is good tho!
  • Heat Level: Everything is fade to black, so 0.5/5!

Is there a 2nd installment?! If there is, I want to see it so bad. That ending was such an evil cliffhanger 😭

I love this novel and it made me go back to reading novels again BUT I won't lie so I'll say this: there are a lot of illogical nonsense in this story. So a ⚠️warning⚠️ to the readers who wanted to read this:

Leave your braincells. 😂 (but not too much)

It's a really happy novel. As for the villains? They don't really stay, meaning the conflict's aren't prolonged... more>> in this story. It's a feel-good novel, in other words. You don't even get to feel frustrated at the villain's antics. That's how peaceful this novel is.

And then there's the illogical stuff... It's about the food.
Spoiler

I just can't with the "food banquet"at the concert hall. Like, people BOUGHT TICKETS just to see people EAT. I had a hard time reading that part because I was in a "wtf-phase." I get that there's mukbang but to BUY tickets just so you could SMELL food...

The weird thing is, as I am writing this review, I'm realizing that it SOMEHOW MAKES SENSE????? Like, if you've been deprived of something and you're curious about it, you'll pay good money for it. So essentially, people bought tickets so they could get the UNDERSTANDING of what the new product is and maybe use it so that they can do it themselves.

Holy shit, is this the epiphany of reviewing books? Lmao.

[collapse]

(Ok, I've actually seen how the "illogical" food-thing might be logical in some sense, but it's inside the spoiler tag)

The romance is... Very good actually. It's so sweet and they're very understanding with each other which is really nice. There's no case of shitty understandings so really, it's a happy novel.

I will repeat; Everything is happy here (except for the villains) so it's a good read if you want to relax your mind from all the drama that you've been reading (or experiencing irl).

I'd give this a rating of 4.4 / 5. But seriously, I'm curious about the next events in this novel bec the ending (in the extras) introduced an interesting dynamic!! <<less
