The Earth is Online

Six months ago, tens of thousands of black phantom towers appeared all over the world, floating above the cities. Chemists, physicists, religious people… all of them could do nothing.

Six months later, people became used to the towers and no longer paid them attention.

One day, Tang Mo saw a flying insect crash into it instead of going through it. The next day, a sharp and clear child-like voice issued an announcement to all humans.

“Ding dong! November 15th, 2017. The earth is online.”

The black tower’s three iron-clad rules:

1. Everything is explained by the black tower.

2. 6 o’clock to 18 o’clock is the game time.

3. All players, please strive to attack the tower.

This is the most amazing novel I’ve ever read. The ending was beautiful and I feel it was a bit bittersweet probably because it was ending but overall, I’m glad I came back I finished this novel. There’s so many characters that you’ll love and hate and love again. Don’t mind me crying cuz of how I’ll miss these characters.

The storyline is extremely interesting where humans are forced into games involving fairytale characters who are anything like the fairytale characters you would see or hear in stories. While the romance scenes aren’t many, the whole mystery behind the sudden games makes up for it.

It took me a long time to finally get myself to read it but it’s worth it. My only issue with the novel is that some scenes are rather hard to understand. Maybe I am s*upid and just can’t seem to comprehend some parts or maybe... more>> it’s just the fact that sometimes things just get lost in translation. Despite this little setback it doesn’t change the fact that this novel is worth the read. However, I don’t recommend this novel to impatient readers. This is a novel where you really need patience and read slowly to really understand the storyline. I am one of those who speed read to get to the conclusion so some scenes became too confusing to follow along thus ruining some parts of the story for me. This novel is still on my list of reads as I plan to go back and read slower to truly get the whole experience of the novel. <<less

This is one fantastic novel!

I actually read this about two years ago but was only able to write a review now.

But I could still remember the excitement I retained throughout the book. Be it the games, cheats, or the characters, everything introduced is important for our two main characters to survive.

All in all, it is a very well written novel, I absolutely loved it.

I strongly recommend this novel to sci-fi, action, adventure and mystery lovers! This story is very interesting and involves a lot of logic. If you're a low-level IQ person like me, you might find the story difficult to understand (mostly the games actually) since the games are really difficult and tricky. However, the MC always provides a suitable explanation after each game on how he solved the game. The most disappointing thing in this novel though is the way that the author narrates the romance. Come on, author!! Give us... more>> more romantic scenes! I really don't recommend this novel to smut lovers and those who expect a lot of romance. You'll all end up disappointed haha. However, the novel has a strange addictive force to it. Once you start reading it, you'll find yourself hooked to it and lose precious sleep hours! And then, you'll find yourself crying a river once the novel ends haha. <<less

To start with the plot is pretty interesting. System and gaming quite enjoyable along with the mysteries. Characters are pretty interesting too so the development. Interesting villain too.

plot: suddenly mysterious black towers appear all over the world and six month later the earth went online. Start with the surviving game out of billions only few million left who survived the cruel the tower attack and lived while killing their own kind. After completed the tower game they realized they went to another identical earth and played game which was created... more>> by the most intelligent scientists all over the world. The pass the game and the human went online. Meaning the end.

Annoying part: author's emphasis on some thing which was quite annoying for me. I found the the relation between MC & ML not enjoyable and it was okay to some extent. The chapters are too long and the game and mysteries sometimes made no sense to me maybe my IQ is low whatever. Some subplot annoyed me. However, it worth time. Ending was ok for me.

People who don't have too much time to spare please care before picking it up. It took me 1 week to complete because with classes and assignment I don't get enough time to spare not to mention my poor heath.

I would give it 4.5 if I allowed to but unfortunately can't. <<less

This novel is absolutely thrilling - the survival challenges genuinely left me sweating with anxiety and I felt a whirlwind of emotions during each arc (and the arcs can get grim and very dark).

What stands out about EO is the world-building and the plot: the fantastical apocalyptic setting; creative abilities and unique challenges; the bosses; the overarching mysteries - they all weave together seamlessly towards a greater picture and absolutely phenomenal ending. The author certainly did not drop the ball on the ending as the overall 'explanation/outcome' is very satisfying... more>> - everything connects well into a wonderful 'aha!' moment. FINAL ENDING SPOILERS
Spoiler

I actually got goosebumps reading about the sacrifice made by South Asian players and MC's ultimate question to the system

[collapse]

Additionally, the MC and ML are extraordinarily capable and match each other well. It's so satisfying. They're level-headed, clever, pragmatic, fierce and strong. I really like their interactions, along with their interactions with the rest of the cast. The side characters are solid and likeable. I really like Bai Ruoyao (what a devil! haha) and Chen Shanshan in particular.

One downside is that the challenges and explanations can get quite confusing at times. Additionally, MC and ML - they are extremely level-headed and are the types to take the best action when there's danger (e.g. kill when needed) and I occasionally felt shocked at how pragmatic and emotionally cool they were. But I guess constant life-death situations hone you to become like that. Additionally, I would have liked more moments of respite in the novel to just focus on the interactions between MC and ML (... I just wanted a bit more fluff and romance) but the plot surges forward relentlessly. (Though I guess the fast-paced plot makes sense, as the reader gets pulled along the crazy ride along with the characters who naturally have no time to rest in a creepy game-like system that forces them into constant life-death battles).

Overall:
Highly recommend! Unique world-building, fascinating story and amazing characters. This is a must-read - especially if you like survival thrillers. <<less

Nothing to say anymore as other reviews already said it all. By the way, this novel is one of my favourite novel ever. I love the survival type of BL story even if the romantic element developing a bit slow. But their interaction moments are worth it. Haha..... I love Momo! For sure I will reread this novel again. For those who also love this type of story, I really recommend you guys to read GUEE (Global University Entrance Examination) !

Two words are needed to describe this novel. Pure perfection.

The character development and interactions between the MC and ML are beautifullll. Nothing between them is forced and it was honestly so soul cleansing reading this haha.

This book focuses mostly on plot. Like 90% plot and 10% bl. The bl is there but it's more of a sweet adorable match up that isn't rushed or forced. Unfortunately there is no papapa in any detail but it was just right with the way the book was written.

Cannot believe how delicious reading this... more>> book was! The games were awesome and always changing, the intelligence level was so refreshing I could not suggest this novel enough in 100 years!!

Something I loved about this book was that the characters were believable. They weren't overpowered or able to work things out perfectly every time by themselves or gaining prop after prop making them the strongest. It was just so smooth and the twists you get make your head spin. SO GOOD!!

Definitely reading this masterpiece again!

Three words: I adore it.

I absolutely cannot resist survival game/apocalyptical stories, and this certainly didn't disappoint. The chemistry between the MC and ML, even if it wasn't a romantic one, was so, so lovely to read.

I don't mind gore, if you really thought about the description then it was somewhat nauseating, but still fine to read.

... more>> The games are technical and difficult to understand fully at the start, but as the mysteries behind it unfold, everything starts to make more sense.

The point is, if you're considering picking this up, then I say do it! It's a really enjoyable read, from start to finish. <<less

Auuugh, I'm gonna miss this. Even though it was shorter than other novels, it was a nice ride! ... more>>
Spoiler

The plot is nice althoughh I would've wanted the black tower to have been explained moree, but the explanations to the games were really good. At first, the games were hard to understand and Tang Mo just does his stuff with a bit of explanation but when the games finish or about to be finished, the solution is explained well!

Uuugh, I'm so gonna miss Tang Mo and Fu Wenduo, hnggg. So so so love them. I like how Major Fu always grab Tang Mo when something happens hahahaha. And all of their interaction with regards to their feelings with each other are just too wholesome!! I just don't know what to do now because this is such an awesome novel. It has the action/adventure/mystery genre and also BL!! I love Mo Tang and Victor!! Their oh-so-famous tacit understanding. Tang Mo as the MC is also my favorite!! He's so indifferent and it's funny whenever something embarrassing happens and he still remains the same HAHAHAH but I know deep inside what he's really feeling, I like those "..." HAHAHAHA ML is also the best! He treats Tang Mo as an equal anddd he's so cheeky! Mating huh Hahahhaha so sweet hngg

I would definitely read this again when I have forgotten about it hehheh, I still can't recover when little Fu Wenduo got up HAHAHHAHA and also the secret of Tang Mo!! HAHAHAHA it's a pity that Major Fu wasn't able to tease him about that HAHAHAHA I love how they were both powerful and their differences, they're just too meant to be. I love them so much!! I also love all the other characters!!

Starting from the the little fatty, it's sad that they Brother Tang and little fatty didn't meet in the end, then there's shanshan, it was pity that she couldn't get stronger but she was just too smart so it has to fair. Luo Fengcheng is also a 10/10, I like how he treats Tang Mo and I remember the scene where Major Fu is bandaging Tang Mo's back heheheh Jack is also a funny character

Then there were Xiao Jitong and Ningning and Xiao Qiao, they were also 10/10 people, I love them all! Fu wencheng is also sooo cute hahahhah this innocent and pitiful baby that was bullied by Major Fu, his ability was really surprising. Bai Ruoyao is just a really weird personality?? Like idk when he would really kill Tang Mo and I can't decide if I should hate him or not? So I just acknowledge him when he's there and feel at ease when he isn't haahahha becausee he is stronger than Tang Mo physically and he's just unpredictable. The next one is the Tian xuan, Tang Mo didn't use the rewind time? Or smthng like thag because of the restriction, sadly, I like Ruan wangsu, li miaomiao and lian yuzheng, they were good people and great comrades.

Mu Huixie is a character that I really didn't expect to be good but soo glad that she was, although her end was a bit sad. The russian bear like andres (?) ivanov? I really wished he should be their comrade and I was glad that they were. Huckster is also a memorable character and I almost forgot he was shanshan's father. The black tower monsters were also funny and nice to read about because they also have different personalities.

[collapse]

IN SUMMARY I JUST LOVE ALL OF THE CHARACTERS AND THIS IS SOMETHING I WOULD ALWAYS RECOMMEND! Huhu I'M GONNA MISS TANG MO AND FU WENDUOOO! <<less

honestly, I think this is a really great novel. I read it for a week straight and it left a bitter sweet feeling when I completed it. That is to say, happy I was done, but still wanting to have more in the process.

Overall I would recommend this novel for people who like smart Mcs, an enjoyable ML, and stories that have more action and problem solving than romance (though there is a hint of rom as well).

to sum up even though there are some parts I'm dissatisfied with the novel overall I don't regret reading it and I enjoy the experience. After all I'm not some critic, it's enough if I enjoy it

some major spoilers read with caution.

Spoiler

I loved how creative the games were and the plot but honestly it started to go lose the spark by the time Bai "died". It's very aburpt how they killed him & very obvious tht he's can't just leave cuz he's apart of the main cast.

Fu Luosheng didn't really stand out other than the function of a healing ability and being the only living relative of the ml.

its lackluster why the guy from Russia gave up killing Mo Huxie just because she's a good person when he's travel miles to get the chance to revive his wife or daughter. (ie. For example reasons like, he fell in love with her, thus felt complicated between choosing his family or her, just give a more solid reason)

I understand that the since the author, the novel and the main cast is Chinese, Chinese population would be more involved in the plot but I wish that they give more dimensions to players from other countries other than the fact that they're really strong. That way I could have felt more moved by them (for eg, I could've been sad when they die instead of feeling "oh okay"). Customer early I don't really feel emotionally moved with the main cast. Sure I love the creat ive games and how tang mo solves them but do I really feel like I could be worried or excited for him? No. I mostly read this story for the plot rather than the cast.

at the end of the day, do I enjoy binging this?yes.

I loved it. I love it. I will love it.

Great plot, amazing characters, entertaining games, brilliant worldbuilding, fantastic execution

This book has everything and it's one of those stories that you will keep in your heart and think about it from time to time.

... more>> It's a well balanced mix of survival, horror, gore, comedy, mystery all wrapped in a nice ribbon for you to enjoy.

I think Tang Mo is one of the best protagonist I ever read in general??? He's logical, level headed, ready to face this apocalypse whatever it takes... and he has this moment of tenderness here and there that are just fantastic.

The cast of secondary character is a BIG one, excluding the players in the instances we see only once, all of them are memorable and could have been protagonist on their own.

The story is a real page turner; every new twist more exciting and scary than the previous one.

Just do yourself a favor and read it. <<less

I don't really know what to say... This novel is just, , , , *chefs kiss* PERFECT!

Honestly, came for the BL and then stayed for the plot/storyline. This is one of the MOST well-written novels I've read, BL or not. It makes me think & makes me use my brain. This is now #1 on my favorite novels!

I also really, really love the character development/s and portrayals. All of them are flawed, and really smart. I also love one of the characters LOL. He's very annoying and kinda psycho but... more>> he's just really a precious bean. (Guess who I'm talking about!)

Spoiler

Yes. it's Bai Ruoyao. And I literally cried when he died and was always hoping that he somehow survives again. He did! But the price was killing off my bad-ass gf, Mu Huixue : ( ((

[collapse]

I also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the relationship of the MC and ML. It's not toxic and they have absolute trust in each other, which makes them THE power couple in my opinion.

All in all, I absolutely recommend this novel to those who are looking for survival stories. They will NOT regret reading this! Whether they like BL or not, this story really is... ugh!! *chefs kiss again* <<less

Amazing story, this has definitely got to be the most well made novel I've ever read. It was stimulating for the brain and had me constantly thinking ahead wondering what's going to happen and I was never disappointed with the twists and turns that it gave me, there was logic and reasoning behind what would happen. There was never a point where I thought "what this character did was just plain s*upid" or "it would have been better if this had happened instead." I was so involved in this story... more>> from beginning to end, I loved learning about the characters, their skills and behaviors, everything was just so interesting that I never felt bored with it.

One thing I really liked was that it made me cry, even when the characters themselves didn't cry, I was crying. I was always on the character's side, I didn't want to see them get hurt, I was always rooting for them, and because of the great writing I was able to be emotionally invested with a great many characters, not just the main characters.

I have to say that because of the yaoi and romance tags I thought there would be more about the main couple, but understandably, because of how they were mostly trying to survive, there wasn't much romantic buildup or much time spent only with the two of them. There was a few paragraphs at most that focused solely on the couple and their romance, but I personally didn't mind because the story was just SO amazing that I didn't care if romance came second, or third, or maybe even fourth really. I have to say thought that there was one line in the extra story after the ending that was just such a romantic line that it made me tear up, and I was so glad that I read up to that point so I could read that one line.

The ending had a bittersweet feeling, and though I was left wondering about everyone's future, I wasn't left with a feeling that I wasn't given enough. I felt I was given plenty and the story ended at a point where I am perfectly satisfied with 'putting the book back on the shelf' so to say. Sometimes I am frustrated at the end because I want to know more about what happened later, and this frustration stems from the viewpoint that there is wasted potential, and I am glad to say that this story lived up to its full potential, no more, no less.

I would happily recommend this novel to people that want an interesting plot that really makes you think. If you want a constantly moving story that always leaves you anticipating what happens next after you finish reading a chapter, this novel is for you. <<less

This is a fun puzzle/survival series with sci-fi and special abilities. It has a fast pace and is difficult to put down (I lost so much sleep until I finished this series!). It has exciting action and tension, and the writer kills off named characters. The protagonist halo is still prominent, but it's less obtrusive than in other series. A few characters have some depth, but their character development isn't obvious. They aren't flat characters, but they aren't full of depth either. I love the mystery.

If you do not like... more>> boys' love, then you shouldn't have a problem with this series. If you are looking for romance or smut, this is definitely not the series to scratch that itch. This is not a yaoi, and I'm not even sure if it qualifies as a shounen-ai. There is a gay couple, but romance is not focused on in this series to the point it would have been fine without any romance at all. In the entire series,
Spoiler

I think the MC and ML only kiss twice, and the first kiss is in chapter 207. There is one s*x scene, but it's not explicit; there is only enough description to let readers know the two characters are making love. The flirting is so subtle, it's easy to overlook.

[collapse]

The setting is interesting, and the series comes to a close well. Everything comes in full circle, but there are still several unanswered questions at the end, including continents that do not appear to exist in the story at all.

Spoiler

Why is Africa missing?! Whatever happened to Australia?! The Earth is divided into ten zones, which include parts of Asia, China as its own zone, Europe, Russia as its own zone, the USA as its own zone, and the Americas. I guess Canada, Mexico, and South America could be squished into "the Americas, " but then what is the point of having the US in the middle of their zone? Shouldn't Canada get its own zone if the US does? South America is an entire continent, so why doesn't it have its own zone? There is no African zone, and no African people clear any instances or appear in the story. This is a GIGANTIC CONTINENT, so what the heck happened? It can't just disappear.

Australia is much smaller, but it also doesn't make any appearances. Did it get grouped up with one of the Asian zones or what? Even if the zones are based on populations, this is a little insensible.

I assume that anyone in Antarctica got killed off early on since there are so few people there.

[collapse]

There are also a few peculiarities, such as
Spoiler

this entire event is about making the human race evolve. That said, the MC and ML are gay, so they won't be passing their genes onto anyone unless some new technology comes about. Furthermore, the consciousness of the universe is more like a god than anything else. Why would it go through this trouble? The strength of humanity lies in intelligence, working as a group, and technology, but the people have to survive without their greatest strengths. Technology doesn't advance in this series has most likely regressed substantially.

[collapse]

There are also some issues with the writing where key plot details are not revealed to the reader. For instance,
Spoiler

all of the animals disappear. This isn't mentioned at all until they reappear later on. I thought people were hunting for food off-screen in other teams the whole time. Furthermore, technology gets cut off, and people have no internet connection anymore. Isn't this pretty critical information? Although it appears, that no one can even turn on electrical lights, phones still have charge more than six months later and can continue to tell time. These discrepancies are never explained or stated.

[collapse]

One big problem is the translation quality for any English readers. It is good enough to mostly figure out what is going on, but there are places where sentences are clearly missing and rules just don't make sense. It is machine-translated, and it looks like autocorrect attacked and change important words into nonsensical ones. There are grammatical errors every chapter, and sentences have nouns and other words missing. Species of animals and characters change within a chapter. Men become women, and women become men frequently based on the pronouns. This is the quality expected from most machine translations, but it can be irritating and confusing to read. That said, it is clear enough to understand most of what is going on aside from many of the rules, but the rules can be understood by how the characters play.

Overall, I'd recommended it as an exciting puzzle/survival action series. <<less

To be honest, I’d put this novel at maybe a 4.5. It gave me everything I wanted in a plot-centered, post-apocalyptic novel. The puzzles were all very intriguing, the writing intelligent, and while the MCs were powerful, they weren’t so OP that nothing could ever befall them.

In terms of quality, it blows many other novels out of the water: it’s unpredictable but logical, with every event catching your interest. Little hints are also scattered throughout, and I love how much effort the author put into making this a solid novel.... more>> Something I always appreciate is the author remembering MC was a librarian: too often, these initial conditions are just excuses for the MC to become OP. Not here. He has the genuine personality and values of a librarian, and I really appreciate how he truly cares about preserving technology, culture, and history.

I also loved the dynamic between the MC and ML. No overbearing possessiveness here, and with a natural, healthy, slow-burn relationship. They’re such a powerful couple as well that bring out the strengths in each other. Love it love it love it.

In the end, I only deduct 0.5 points for the lack of character development: characters were still strong and not archetypal, but I do wish they could be fleshed out more with their individual arcs. However, I understand that this is a plot centered novel, so I don’t really mind.

If you want a novel that will finally make your brain cells light up, this one’s for you. <<less

Post-apocalyptic but no zombie, thick mystery, fall into slow burn BL, no papapa

Plot: 5/5

Characters: 5/5

Romance: 3/5

Overall: 4.8/5

Trust me THIS STORY IS WORTH IT. Amazing job done by the translator as well. The plot makes you never lose interest. The plot keeps on thickening and only gets more and more interesting.

The summary doesn't explain ANYTHING. Trust me you won't get it till you give it a try.

Also, even though the romance was really slow burning and the book wasn't really focused on it, it doesn't really deter anything.

All in all, this is a good read
