Six months ago, tens of thousands of black phantom towers appeared all over the world, floating above the cities. Chemists, physicists, religious people… all of them could do nothing.

Six months later, people became used to the towers and no longer paid them attention.

One day, Tang Mo saw a flying insect crash into it instead of going through it. The next day, a sharp and clear child-like voice issued an announcement to all humans.

“Ding dong! November 15th, 2017. The earth is online.”

The black tower’s three iron-clad rules:

1. Everything is explained by the black tower.

2. 6 o’clock to 18 o’clock is the game time.

3. All players, please strive to attack the tower.

THE EARTH IS ONLINE DONE!!!! This novel is so good, I feel the tension the entire time because of all the deadly games! I especially loved the games since it also let the readers think of how to solve them. I always enjoy a book when I not only have to read it but I need to use my mind as well. I also love the slow and steady romance between tang mo and fu wenduo. It's a subplot and can be considered as the delicious side dish,... more>> the attack games being the main dish. This novel has great supporting characters as well!! Now I'm getting more into unlimited flow novels more than ever!! <<less

I enjoyed reading this novel. It's well translated and the plot was very enjoyable. I love the wit of MC and the strength of ML. They're really compatible and sensible. The element of surprise through the novel was very well put together even though the logic of the author sometimes failed me.

The games of the black tower were quite interesting and I couldn't help but guess along with the characters in the book. Slow burn romance but it didn't bug me since I was more invested in the development of... more>> the black tower. The side characters got their own screentime and they weren't just two dimensional. One of them made me hate and love him at the same time, so try reading and see if the same character will stir your emotions too.

I actually didn't quite grasp the purpose of the black towers or the reason behind it so the ending was a little dull compared to all the beautiful elements at the beginning and middle of the plot. Not every work is perfect and there's always room for improvement so I can say that even though there were loose ends here and there, the novel turned out great. <<less

This story was super enjoyable to read. The villain scenarios are funny (and stress inducing), the story is pretty well paced, and I really like most of the characters. The ML and MC have pretty good chemistry, but don't expect too much in the way of romance (it's there... but also just feels like a bromance at times).

Overall, this story is worth it, especially if you like stories in the same vein as Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint.

Wow.
This novel is really something.
Mystery. Fighting. Problem-solving. Killing.
This is a masterpiece. Though it’s a BL, you only get smatterings of it here because the main focus is all the complex problem solving and the absolute destruction of fairytale characters vs mankind.

I just finished reading the book. And I'm not ready to let go of those amazing characters and storyline.

Such a vivid and descriptive imagination, it was a book with a very high potential. Every game, props, abilities, monsters everything was nicely written.

And the characters, their emotions, fighting scenes, their interactions, the strong players, the bad players everything was well written and organised.

... more>> The MC and ML a pair of perfect teammate, we can see the growth of their relationship. It was nice.

I loved the character of that little girl shenshen, the no.1 returnee Mu Muxie, our psychopath Bai Raoriya (I guess I remembered right?).

It was a rollercoaster of many emotions shock, curiosity, pain, danger, excitement, tears and relief. <<less

Before I get into spoilers I'll say this: I love this novel, the instances were very interesting, and it kept you on your toes, the slow burn is great. I never felt that something was dragged out to far, and I love that all the monsters knew each other.

The ending:

Spoiler

The ending is pretty bittersweet, especially with the first 2 extras, if the black tower never appeared, everyone would live happy lives, billions of people died, and I'm sure most of those people have no one to remember them by. The black tower destroyed almost all of humanity then just left. But I'm definitely glad that this was the ending rather than the hole thing was a simulation kinda thing, and honestly if everyone revived it probably wouldn't be as good of a novel, so I like the ending.

Spoilers for MHX and BRY:

Spoiler

I'm gonna be honest, I didn't feel much when Muhuixue or Bairuoyao died, sure, I somewhat sad, but I rlly didn't care much, I like MHX's character and I was although I mostly thought of BRY as annoying I was still quite fond of him, so I'm not sure why their deaths didn't hit me as much as I wanted it to (I wanna sob for days lol). Quite glad BRY got to revive tho, even if it was in exchange for MHX's life.

The black tower:

Spoiler

Like I said earlier, the fact that the black tower monsters/underground people all knew each other is something I absolutely love, makes for pretty interesting (and comical) solutions to things.

[collapse]

The returnees:

Spoiler

I'm glad the people who disappeared didnt stay like that, I can't imagine how difficultit was for them tho, the black tower is so cruel, either go into instances over and over again with barely any rest time or kill others for more rest time, it's inevitable that the returnees ended up that way. Speaking of which, didnt TM kill that returnee that could control others? Why didn't he get her ability?

EO was my first survival game novel and I went on a horror/mystery novel binge after this read. Definitely worth it, doesn't focus a lot on the relationship between MC and ML but it's there. The plot is great and the abilities are also interesting to read about.

I enjoyed it a bit, but to me it was a boring read. I can see how people enjoyed it. Again not MY cup of tea. The MC is well written Stan tang mo ᕕ (ᐛ) ᕗ the relationship between him and ML is really cute too (❁´◡`❁) sad I couldn't read it any longer maybe I'll come back to it (╯︵╰,)

(Also although I did enjoy it a bit I am not giving it 5 stars I give it 4.1 stars I just can't seem to figure... more>> out how to change itಠಿ_ಠ) <<less

I have never wrote any reviews for any novels that i've read (so it might not seem like a review at all, apologies) but it doesn't mean that I don't love them all but this novel. DAMN... IT DID SOMETHING TO ME

it made me lose sleep and I finished reading it within a month while also working every weekdays. im not gonna leave any spoilers I just have to say that I love the main characters Tang Tang x Fu Wenduo and all the side characters, especially my most favorite... more>> psychopath, Bai Ruo Yao and Mu Huixue and the children. Fhck it I love everyone in this books even the monsters. This novel also made my last remaining braincells to burst because to read this novel it needs a lot of brain capacity and I dont think I have that QAQ However I enjoyed every moment that I read it and cried eventho the angst isnt even very noticeable. But if you are looking for pure bl with a lot of smut then this book might not be it for you?? because it focuses more on the plot than the cp (also because its slowburn). but their relationship is one of the most strongest and purest because it is shown clearly throughout the novel with how they interact and the trust and understanding they have with each other is just like a breath of fresh air. You dont see a lot of it in some novels. Okay bye 👋 <<less

I finished reading this a long time ago so I don't really remember the exact details of this novel. What I remember is that it's a very great read to pass the time. Both MC and ML are OP in their own rights and is unstoppable when working together. Some game mechanics just flew over my head since my brain is too dumb to comprehend but overall, the games and mystery behind the black towers are very interesting.

That normal world AU though cracks me up. MC sure does have his priorities straight.

it's ok.... idk if it was the translation but so much got lost in the density. additionally, I think that the author just made up their own logic. I really wanted to pay attention, have a stimulating story presented and a romance but I just kept going, "wait, what?" and, "why did that just happen?" also there's so much inconsistency that I wonder if it's the translation or the writing (ie changing motives at the drop of a hat; the previous thing said before matters less...)

I just finished reading this novel and I really liked it. I thought the story is very good and the relationship development between MC and ML very harmonious. Even though at first, some characts seeme be too anoying or calculating, incluind the MC, they have their own unique characteristics and over time it's possible to attached to several of them.

Most of the missions that happens in the course of the novel aren't serious or terrifying, but are more focused on puzzle and math. So if you like this I recommend... more>> giving the story a chance. <<less

(4.5/5) One the first novel that got me into reading danmei. The games are interesting and the characters make this book shine. I like how the MC and ML relationship progressed. Gotta go in blind or else the mystery won't be fun. The ending was opened ended and rushed, but it's a solid story. Even the "villains" are really interesting and fleshed out. It's a great novel to start your journey into the BL novels.

Truly amazing world construction, good characters and main relationship. Lacking more romance (I'm a romantic tho) but the extras give that. I would definitely buy a copy.

I literally made an account on here just to write this review, so here goes:

*Disclaimer, I finished this novel a couple months ago, so these are just my general impressions (a.k.a. I will not be backing up my claims with teXtuAl EvIdEnCe)

    1. Plot: 4.5/5 - As you have probably surmised from the rest of the reviews, this novel does NOT skimp on the plot. The general concept is intriguing, the progression of events is well thought out, and the author does a good job of setting up satisfying payoffs. The main reason why I gave this novel a 4.5/5 and not 5/5 is because there are a couple of 'lazy' plot points towards the end (a.k.a some hand-wave-y logic that sort of took away from the tension at the climax of the story), but overall this is a solid, competently written storyline with plenty of exciting twists.
    1. Characters: 5/5 - THIS is what puts TEIO above so many other novels in my opinion. I absolutely loved each and every character (even the villains), and I get the feeling that the author did too, because you can tell that they put an extraordinary amount of time and effort into making these people feel real. Tang Mo - the MC, is snarky and intelligent, but also so goddamn s*upid I... more>> want to hit him over the head with a brick sometimes (in the best way possible). Fu Wenduo - the ML, is level-headed, NOT AN as*hole (low bar ik, but still, worth mentioning), and also unintentionally hilarious in all of his socially-awkward glory. The supporting cast is full of 3D characters with unique personalities, including but not limited to: some hella adorable kids (who still pull their own weight), a HELLA badass lady (no spoilers), and screwed up versions of fairytale characters.
    1. TL Quality/Writing Style: 4/5 - As expected from Rainbow Turtle, the translation quality is pretty good and definitely retains a lot of the original flAVoR of the novel. There are some minor grammatical/pronoun issues, but it doesn't detract from the overall enjoyability for me. As for the prose, the author does a good job balancing description and action, and there are a couple of scenes near the end that are so well-written and emotionally poignant that, months later, they are still burned into my memory.
    1. General Enjoyability/Re-Readability: 4.5/5 - As someone who loves puzzles and logic games, this was an absolute delight to read. I think I actually finished the entire thing in one day because I just could not bring myself to click away. Most of the puzzles in the beginning are actually solvable if you pay enough attention, and the fact that each puzzle/stage was drastically different from the last kept the book fresh and engaging. My only complaint is that a few of the games were way too convoluted/hard to explain in written format, and honestly my brain sort of hurt by the end of the book. Still, I would 100% be down to re-binge this novel in one day.

Totally love this! The story, the games and even the romance. But the only disappointing thing is the yaoi tag. It doesn't pass for a yaoi story.. It's just a shounen ai. With very less romance. It's all about the mutual trust as the story keeps progressing. It's a survival show afterall. They are always on the edge. This is a very good story if u r here for a thrilling ride. Also only if lengthy and detailed descriptions of games don't bore u. Otherwise, don't bother reading

Romance: For me, it was just the right amount of romance. It was sweet, heartfelt and not sudden or too fast-paced.

Action: I liked the action scenes, at first I thought it was a little silly but it quickly changed my mind.

Games: I liked the ''puzzles'', it was fun to try to figure out things as the games went on. Some things were a bit too obvious to me, and some a little confusing.

Setting: The setting of the novel was quite unique, I liked the way the world was portrayed, it... more>> was different from most of the post-apocalyptic novels I have read so far.

Character psychology: I liked character developments throughout the story and both positive and negative psychological changes were well noted.

Overall impression: It was an interesting novel to read, the translation IS NOT as bad as some reviews say, but it might be because I tortured myself with reading MTL before... Regardless, the translation was okay for me, readable and understandable. There were certain mistakes which were a little confusing but nothing that couldn't be understood with a little logic and reading from the context.

I would certainly recommend this novel. <<less

f*cking god tier!! I was addicted I didn’t stop reading till I was already at the end!!

This novel I would describe it as Unlimited Flow so if you like this genre highly HIGHLY recommend!!

MC is terrific and ML is just as great too. They both kept me engaged and actually interested in their story. And with the MC’s ability it’s so fun to see how he really has to think outside the box to be able to use the best way he can.

Anyways, everything about it was fun and engaging.... more>> So read it and give it a try!! <<less

Rating: 5/5- Thought provoking, action packed and wonderfully memorable!

The Earth is Online is definitely deserving of the high ratings and rave reviews. It's captivating, thrilling and depicts humanity at its finest and its worst. The plot is clever and the characters are wonderfully brought to life.

No character is perfect but even the most annoying humans and bosses find a way to creep into your heart or memory. The usage of universally recognised characters and ruthless behaviour with mild comedy in between made this intriguing, gripping and satisfying.

I must be honest,... more>> many of the games made no sense to me even when each reached its conclusion but it was interesting. The BL element in this story is so minimal that it is basically non-existent in the novel, but the novel in itself is spectacular! (There are like 3 kisses at best in the whole story). Also you don't really feel like it's a bad thing that there's no romance coz they are surviving the end of the world- like there's no time for romance. Whatever little romance exists is satisfying and sweet and very realistic! Before Global University Exam and The Earth is Online I wouldn't really count myself as a horror reader, but these two books have definitely opened up a new door of wonders for me. I'm certainly looking forward to more horror BL (with hopefully a bit more of a romance element)

The story ends on a really bittersweet note for some reason, maybe because of the dreary reality and the heartbreak many of the characters live through. It just got me thinking that if I had to experience the end of the world in a similar manner would I survive? (I highly doubt it coz I'm weak AF)

My one complaint was that the ending should have been a few chapters longer. There were some plot holes and it felt very rushed when concluding the black tower saga. A bit more interpretation would have nicely closed the story. I just felt a little whiplashed when it came to the real secret of the black tower. Also- what happened with Eve's Apple? This is an incredible read that you will never forget. Highly recommend reading this for a spectacular plot about the human spirit. <<less
