At the age of thirty, Zhou Qingbo’s luck seemed to have taken a downturn. Nothing was going well for him – he had a sprained ankle, and his stocks were plummeting. Seeking answers, he consulted a fortune teller who informed him that his fate was affected by the “Red Sparrow Sha,” and that he needed to be in a romantic relationship to improve his luck.

Being a staunch advocate of singlehood, Zhou Qingbo scoffed at the idea. However, before he could protest, he received a notification from a close friend, informing him that they had already “arranged” a blind date for him.

Before meeting Zhou Qingbo, Pei You had already gone on thirty-two unsuccessful blind dates, receiving countless “nice guy” cards. He had already resigned himself to dedicating his life to his career when he encountered this potential blind date – someone quite different from the rest.

“The first rule of dating is no ghosting allowed.”

Human Resources Director/Mixologist (top) x Auditor (bottom)

Zhou Qingbo x Pei You

Important Notes:

The story is told from both perspectives, with a sweet and fizzy lemonade taste. It’s a simple story of a late blooming first love.
The top is an intermittent and spoiled individual, while the bottom is straightforward in everything except his romantic and s*xual life.

Wow. Pleasantly surprised at how good (and sometimes emotional) it was. Ending doesn’t feel rushed, and I wish we even had more chapters for their new lives after moving.

Mostly a feels good modern BL, with some serious topics here and there. Honestly, Zhou Qingbou is f*cking badass. Who wouldn’t feel touched after seeing your usually lazy, spoiled BF toil in disaster rescue operations for a week or more just to find you?

I just finished reading this novel and I think 5 stars is exactly the rating it needs. I'm a fan of realistic BL novels and this one meets that condition and is also super natural. There are certain tropes of danmei that I don't like, such as when they make shou "less" than gong or make it appear slightly "feminine." This novel doesn't have that.

I have noticed that this story is very well written and feels like a very real love that anyone would like to have, the protagonists are... more>> people like us that you could find in life and they have an endearing personality, I love how it is told because it shows you step by step. Stage as they are known and how they are influenced over time.

The end is not an end, it is a new beginning as is real life. I wanted there to be more but I found myself thinking that it was not for more, it seems that they follow a new path with new adventures and that is satisfying enough to leave you with a sweet aftertaste in your heart.

I think the development of the protagonists is great, at first we are like strangers, we don't know their personalities and no one tells us what they are like, we get to know them over time and they do the same. They stop being strangers and having their own reservations, to getting along as friends and finally becoming lovers who trust each other.

I find Zhou Qingbo to be someone admirable beyond the fact that not much of his past is named, I think that the path he followed when discovering his sexuality and what he did after that was full of lows that a person could not bear but he did. And in silence. He didn't know support from anyone until he met Pei You.

Their couple dynamic is so special to me and, as the author says in one of his notes, their way of expressing love complements each other and makes them a match made in heaven. I simply love this story and I think it is a shame that it is not as well known. I hope that more people read it, and if you are still doubting whether to read it or not, I definitely recommend it, it is a love story that is worth reading. <<less

I really like slice of life romance stories, so this was right up my alley for a nice calming read, with a extroverted, lively and a little spoiled gong protagonist and a gentle, attentive, and doting ML. Honestly peak flavor right there, as I love switching up the dynamics of a typical couple, but we've also got a dash of fake relationship, mutual pining, and hurt/comfort tropes to keep things extra spicy. Zhou Qingbo definitely grew on me a lot as the story progressed- he seems at first to be... more>> a lazy salted fish, but he actually has a whole underground career and is quite vibrant in his personal life.

The story took quite a few unexpected turns and I especially liked the arc where they confirmed their feelings for each other! The MC really demonstrated the depth of his feelings and the lengths he was willing to go for ML, and I have to say I was quite surprised to see how much he did, coming from such a lazy character lol.
Spoiler

Like this salted fish literally volunteered at a disaster zone for days just to find MC, reminds me of one of my favorite moments in Gold Class Fighter. There's something about saving someone amidst a natural disaster and confirming their feelings in a life or death scenario that hits different.

[collapse]

The two main leads complement each others personalities pretty perfectly, and they're just so sweet both before and after they get together. Both of them are falling in love for the first time and their hearts are so pure and sincere. I really enjoyed the slow buildup of their feelings, and though ML technically fell first, it's only because MC took a while to actually recognize his feelings for ML. Overall a very wholesome novel and pretty quick read! It's just the right length in my opinion too, though I maybe would have liked a few extras of their life together!

Also about their positions
Spoiler

it's a personal favorite of mine when both of them think they're going to top the other hahaha bless the author for adding that to their first intimate scene. After all they're two old virg*ns which, love that for them. Also loved how MC was down to be the "sister-in-law" lmaooo thick faced characters are my favorite.

Loving it. I love the MC and ML. I love how natural their relationship progress is, how they handle everything in mature way, and how they love and compliment each other.

It's kinda slow burn but everything feel so right, not dragged at all.

Among the 5 novel that I have read these past few days, this is the only novel that I have really completed reading.

Albeit, not having so much conflicts and plot twists, this story is good and fresh to read.

I love it so much. They became better for each other.

If you do not like splice of life and a story with LESS Plot TWIST then this story is NOT for you.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how good this was. None of the stereotypical character settings nor dogblooded cliches. It's a love story between two mature adults and how they changed for the better because of their love.

Zhou Qingbo was quite unlikeable at first but he gets really good development later on. Pei You's cluelessness was interesting and made for some funny scenes. I really liked how both of them accepted each other as they were, but there were still changes in their personalities as a result of their desire to become... more>> better for the other.

I also really liked the gradual progress of their relationship. It wasn't love at first sight and they did start as good friends. Later on, even when they finally got together, there were clear gradual changes with their way of getting along and intimacy.

It's such a nice, heartwarming and homely love story. <<less

Mature, sweet, sexy... just an all around lovely story. The plot is nice and tight, the main characters are distinct and well developed.

The MC and ML are characters who both grow and change through their experiences which also deepens their relationship. It was also a refreshing change to see both main characters coming from stable family backgrounds with minimal amounts of angst. (not that I'm anti-angst or dog's blood, I love those too) But they both came to this love with awkwardness, earnestness and minimal baggage that really worked well.

I... more>> like how the author shows how they fall in love through both extraordinary and ordinary moments. There's humor, sincerity, tension and it all works together beautifully.

I definitely recommend trying this story. <<less

This is such a special book, probably one of my favourite one I've read in a long time. The story is beautiful and sweet. The way love is described or showed is beautiful and seems pretty realistic actually. Honestly a really beautiful story.

Very sweet and wholesome story. Pretty realistic rendition of two adults falling in love, coming together slowly through calm companionship. Qingbo is by far one of my favorite characters. Someone like him being larger than life, full of freedom and vitality yet serious and dedicated. Not to say Pei You isn't the cutest either for being so gentle and understanding, but Qingbo's insane EQ gives him the edge. Gets a little boring near the end and Qingbo's family being like that was very frustrating, but overall a very satisfying one.... more>> Would have liked to see how their move and the new bar ended up faring. <<less

First time reading about mixology in a novel. Feels very fresh. The beginning of their encounter felt like a cup of coffee, slightly bitter as they did not seem to get along very well. However, the end of it felt like a cup of hot chocolate, warm, sweet, and soothing.

This novel is mainly about 2 people with absolutely no dating experience getting together. There may be ups and downs as well as awkward moments, but they still ended up together like 2 perfectly matched puzzle pieces. Both the MC and... more>> ML are working adults so the way the story progresses and the way they get along is very mature. I enjoyed the whole novel a lot because of how sweet they both are to each other in their own unique way.

Highly recommended for those that wants to read a slow sweet and heartwarming slice of life novel :> no angst as well! <<less

Sweet, fluffy, no angst at all!

It's about two equally love-naive person slowly falling in love with each other.

I think this is a seme protagonist story because zhou qingbo is more like the MC. At first, you might be uncomfortable with his personality because he gives the air of spoiled, rich playboy who is lazy and irresponsible with his job as a director at his brother's office. But actually, he is really flexible, capable of switching to become a serious & charismatic person in a blink of eye when the situation... more>> calls, though being free & playful is his real persona. Despite acting flirty and playful all the time towards ML like an experienced playboy, he is actually never been in neither a serious nor a casual relationship.

While the ML, is the serious, straighforward, earnest and honest type of person. He values sincere and pure type of love and relationship.

What I love in this story is that, the ML personality who is gentle, doting and always accomodating the MC is very much gong-like, like in other typical bl novel.

While the MC who loves to act coy, playful, clingy and spoil towards MC at first seems very much like he is the shou/uke.

I at first though that the MC (zhou qingbo) is the shou.

Otherwise, this story is a very relaxing one, about how two mature adults learn to fall in love. It's interesting to see the change of MC, how he whom at the beginning prefer being single and rejects ML's personality (rigid-conservative-type of people) slowly starts to become possessive and dependent on ML. <<less

It was a fine novel, nothing too over the top or underwhelming. It was perfectly balanced and was the normal slice of life.

that being said, I got bored around the time they finally got together. Although this novel did a decent enough job of keeping things simple and balanced throughout the entire novel, this genre always loses the appeal/charm once the characters are together because there's no longer any real drama or problems to be solved.

Like yes, the MCs family is still on the fence by ch 92, but ultimately... more>> it's kind of obvious what the end result will be and since it's obvious, the novel has thus lost it's appeal and my interest has waned.

I dropped at 92 cause I really just couldn't bare trying to find said interest any longer.

Since the problem is with me, I've only taken a star and rated it 4/5 <<less

Skimmed it. Not my type of novel but I won't deny that it was fluffy & endearing. I confused myself in the beginning about who was top & bottom, but in the end it made sense. Pei You is your introverted, awkward cutie who has his life planned out on data sheets while Zhou Qinbo is a lazy himbo. It works out. I do like the whole "I'm a virg*n at love but I'll teach you my strategies" plot device.

This was sweet and light. The character development was good. There wasn't a lot of tension but it felt like a slice of life. My only critic is that both characters felt more like teenagers than 30 yo a lot of the time, especially in their romantic maturity (both virg*ns... huh what? also couldn't help having to remind myself those were not lesbians couple... hello uhaul after 2 days of dating :P) They were presenting more switch than topxbottom to me and it felt like a missed opportunity not to... more>> let them.

I liked the family dynamics and the cultural aspects too.

overal it was sweet and fun, something to read when you want to lift up your mood and your soul needs soothing.
