Xiang Mo, a talented art teacher, suffered from negative labeling after hosting a daring art exhibition. As a result, he lost his job and his partner, making his life mundane and uninteresting. Gradually, he embraced this tranquil single life, unmoved even by well-suited suitors. However, one day, an annoying neighbor moved in upstairs, shattering the friendly neighborhood atmosphere with a careless remark. Du Chi, the neighbor, teased Xiang Mo about his art, referring to him as the “erot*c artist.” Xiang Mo’s face immediately turned cold; he loathed being addressed that way.

Extreme commitment to the single lifestyle often perceives affection as an ominous omen. When two such individuals come together, it becomes a dangerous signal.

This author has a way of depicting thirst.

I mean in every work that I've read so far (which adds up to 3 now), both MC & ML have this magnetic pull to them that just makes readers, i.e., me, so weak in the knees. The tension captured literally has me on fire.

That aside, the story itself is thought-provoking. It explores singlehood, its fears, its challenges. It's a fun topic to dive into & it makes character exploration fun. MC & ML has similar dispositions; they're not looking for romance,... more>> both for respectively different reasons. While one is just frightened of commitment, the other finds it troublesome. It sounds alike, but ultimately very different perceptions. I love singlehood honestly, so this novel felt like a brick thrown at me. SURE being single is nice & all, but where is the line between contentment & complacency. It just goes to ask, are you living life or just merely living?

But I know that's not what you guys are interested in knowing—yes, there's smut. The author is really good at creating suspense, tension, & a gradual buildup that has you up in flames. It's a really steamy novel & I SWEAR every male lead created by this author is some male god who loves to tease & provoke his significant other. Every action of Du Chi has me foaming at the mouth. I love the cat & dog dynamic the main CP has. It's entertaining, saucy, & you can see just how much of a pull they have on each other. Just goes to say, they bring out the best in each other. An absolute worthwhile read; you won't be disappointed. <<less

A short story of a young man (MC) who has been single for a while and is not looking to change that relationship status anytime soon, but his attractive upstairs roommate (ML) may make him reconsider that decision...

It's not a sad or angsty story by any means, but my heart did hurt a few times and I actually shed some tears from how much I could relate to MC. Though he says he doesn't want love and mentally prepares to grow old alone, his deepest hidden thoughts reveal repressed anxieties... more>> of being left behind and a desire for romance.

This story also has pretty unique take on a playful ML dynamic as MC can actually read between the lines and deduce ML's true intentions instead of just being led along. While ML is still pretty sneaky, it never feels coercive or manipulative and I really enjoyed his antics.

It's a quick read, but really touched my heart. Such a common experience to have been hurt by love in the past and become closed off to new experiences and people. Everyone could use someone as patient and supportive as ML, and the way he draws MC out of his shell is so well done! <<less

"Why people want to love is the same as why people want to live, because life and love are beautiful things, even if it is accompanied by pain, it is enough for people to have the courage to try."

A lighthearted story on how we shouldnt be caught up on the distant future/possible end of our relationship and to just focus on enjoying the present moment.

Isnt being single forever great? You have the freedom to do whatever you want freely, with no one holding you back. Why bother investing all your... more>> time, energy and the risk of getting your heart broken on a relationship you know wont last forever and will end at some point?

I have to admit that I read something like this in a book, when I was a teenager, and was derailed by it for a bit: “Everyone will eventually die, so why bother living?”. It was just such a jarring concept to someone too young.

This is a unique story in that 1) it's between two more mature characters, 2) one knows who he is, the other goes through self-discovery, 3) the journey is clearly described and I was invested in his growth, and 4) the supporting characters - even... more>> the pets - lend something significant.

Absolutely loved it. The bizarre s*x scene wording was even entertaining. Not sure if it was the author or the translator, but omg, what a lot of odd phrasing to describe mechanics that are fairly straight-forward. <<less

A great romance between two mature adults.

They start out as roommates and learn that they have much in common and learn how to slowly fit another person into their lives.

The MC is understandably leery after some bad experiences at a vulnerable age and the ML is sensitive enough to take that into consideration and take his time and use some subtle methods to help the MC become more comfortable with their relationship. However it's also nice when he shows his human side and gets impatient or overexcited in his pursuit.

This... more>> is a nice sexy story with a lazy pace reflected in the small neighborhood that surrounds the MC and ml's studios. There is some contemplation about the different permutations of love which is a nice little side discussion.

Overall, I just really enjoyed this story and I think others will too. <<less

Beautiful short story. I really enjoyed it. Definitely worth the read. I love the relationship between the MC and ML. The translation was fine it was only a bit confusing when the pets names were swapped for like 4 chapters, but overall not bad.

One of the characters ask Xiang Mo “Everyone will eventually die, so why bother living?” when he says that he thinks being alone means not having to experience the pain of separation. The story answers this by saying that both life and love are beautiful things, even though they come with pain, it’s worth it.

Xiang Mo and Du Chi’s relationship is really quite lovely. It doesn’t need to be the fancy dates, but more about the shared ideologies. It’s about being happy with just mundane moments and being with someone... more>> who understands you.

I feel like this work resonated with me more than usual, perhaps because I also experience singlehood syndrome. But this light hearted, yet meaningful story has somewhat causing me to want to cure it...

I love this author and this story has not let me down. The translation was also good. <<less

Awww this is so endearing ❤️

It doesn’t have angst and more like a slice-to-life kind of story.

I love how everything just started falling into place naturally and how MC/ML have threads that actually links them even years ago.

... more>> As a 25 yr old with singlehood syndrome, the MC and ML both feel so relatable and that made me unable to stop reading this novel in one go.

Like the ML, I find falling in love troublesome (like there’s only 24 hrs a day, I spend most of that time working and I have barely have time to myself, how can I fall in love and spend time with another person) and like MC, I’m also really scared of getting hurt and heartbroken.

This novel didn’t cure my singlehood syndrome but it did make me feel happy that somehow out there, the MC/ML found each other.

Even though I have the same syndrome, I can’t deny that I also yearn for the kind of life and the kind of love they both have. <<less

Slice of life and a good take on romance. I like how both of them are so called supporters of singlehood but they have different reasons behind their support. For our MC Xiang Mo, it's mainly because he got hurt by his past and no longer believes in love and marriage (also cause he's scared). As for our ML Du Chi, I think it's mainly because he doesn't see a need for relationships since being single is comfortable for him (but ofc when he meets the right person it's a... more>> different story 🤭).

Du Chi slowly invades Xiang Mo's life, making him realise that actually he isn't much of a supporter of being single when he's with the right person. Also, I love how the more they interact, the more passionate Xiang Mo becomes in life and his career! I love couples that support each other :) <<less

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars

Great slice of life short story. Because there are only 45 chapters, the pacing was done well and it didn't feel draggy.

The story is basically about 2 people (MC & ML), who prefer the "single life".
Spoiler

For the MC, his previous break-up caused him to have a negative outlook on life so he felt that being single is the best choice. Whereas for the ML, before he met the MC, he didn't feel that there was anyone worth being in a relationship with so he didn't bother being in one.

[collapse]
Eventually the MC warms up to the ML and realizes he enjoys the intimacy with the ML but also fears going further with him due to his previous experiences.

I think one of the msgs the author was trying to convey could be that, for people you care about, you won't feel that you have to change your lifestyle for them and even if you make compromises, it isn't as troublesome as you think. Also, in terms of "love", although it might not last forever, it is still worth experiencing it because it can be a positive influence on you (eg striving to be a better version of yourself regardless if it's for you or your other half).

Damn this was so good. An instant favorite. It only has 45 chapters, no dogblood nor drama, but it still took me to a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

I felt sooo invested in their relationship, and I was always looking forward to their next interaction. Contrasting personalities + shared interests and beliefs + the push & pull between them = a very engaging story.

Incredible atmosphere setup by the author too. Not just between the leads but also with the community that they lived in. Everyone had a purpose and role to... more>> play in bringing the environment to life.

Previous reviews already pointed out the core essence of the story. And they're right. This is a lovely take on romance and relationships. One thing I loved was the distinction between singlehood because you enjoy the freedom vs. Singlehood because you're afraid of relationships. <<less

Honest Rating? ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Of course it is. It's short and simple and relatable especially to someone who have the same syndrome like me 🤣 but hey unlike the ML and the MC, I don't fish for cats and dogs ok, I'll just.. Spend my days of having a singlehood syndrome while reading novels and yaoi mangas and then ask myself over and over, "why am I single?" and then realized, ah I have to go out and meet people to be able to cure this illness BUT I'm fine having this... more>> illness lol so wether life have plans of gifting me care of meeting someone like Du Chi or not, it's fine.

Enough about me lol

I don't have plans of spoiling the story here, take this bait and read it guys, I'm sure the other adults could relate to this story as well.

Enjoy! ☺️💗 <<less
