Professor System has issued a mission: to rescue the gentle, kind and tragic protagonist shou of the novel “The Exceptional Furnace”.

Song ‘Scholar-Tyrant’ Qingshi: “Don’t worry, Professor! I can definitely ensure the patient’s recovery!”

In the Immortal Realm:

Song Qingshi praised from the bottom of his heart: “My patient is the kindest and most beautiful little angel in the world.”

Yue Wuhuan quietly washed the blood from his hands and smiled softly: “En.”

Song Qingshi swore from the bottom of his heart: “As a doctor, I will never covet nor take advantage of my beautiful patient!”

Yue Wuhuan took full and complete advantage of the doctor and smiled softly: “En.”

Song Qingshi affirmed from the bottom of his heart: “Under my loving care, the patient will never be blackened!”

Yue Wuhuan secretly hid his monstrously evil thoughts and smiled softly: “En.”

At that inextinguishable summit, upon thousand and thousands of soul lamps, he sat on the god’s throne of white bone, guarding that piece of stone.

“You are the only one in this world who treats me tenderly.”

“And so, you are the only one I treat tenderly.”

Scholar-tyrant Song was absolutely delighted: “Professor! Can I get full marks?”

Professor System exploded: “You fool! You saved the wrong person!”

Unique and fresh concept, overall solid book. Not much to say besides I totally recommend at least trying the book out, no need to read anymore reviews just get on in there!

I will say (extremely, massive, soul-shattering spoiler ahead) :

Spoiler

Haha why are rock/stone protagonists so funny? Does sitting near the Underworld (why is it always the Underworld too) generate more funny bone brain cells?? There should be a stone protagonist tag tbh, 10/10 trope

The story... After the reviews and ratings I expected it not to be bad, but I'm still surprised at how good it was. It is worth reading it in its entirety. Ba! It's one of the few Chinese novels that I read to the finale, and even after the side stories I wanted more.

However, let's start at the beginning. This is not a fluffy love story, and the characters are not unsullied. The first chapters were not easy and reading them you will probably feel uncomfortable. Yue Wuhuan is a... more>> tragic character, and his tormentors are the toughest tr*sh that cannot be recycled. His character development is painful, but so damn well thought out!

Song Qingshi is also quite a well-written character. At times he seems too naive, but then it's worth giving him a few more chapters to see that what we think isn't always true. I liked both of them a lot and liked how they stirred my feelings at times.

The novel, of course, I strongly recommend, but I have three tips.

1. don't be discouraged by the fact that the first chapters are heavy. Later, YWH already has SQS, and although life is still hard and Heaven doesn't help, the darkest times are behind him.

2 Read the story to the end. It is well worth it.

3. Chrysanthemum Garden has a wonderful translation that helps you find your way through the intricacies of Chinese terms and characters. <<less

An Long my baby, someone please help him oh geez whyyyyyyy

Okay, so I'm just shallows 38 chapters into this novel, it's amazing, it's cute and it's SO f*ckING STRONG like, DAMN

MC is great, he is cute and smart in a indepentent and heart-warming way. ML is strong and bittersweet, hopelessly in love and strongly following his heart but also his brain, he is a hurt genius and is healing the best he can. Second ML, An Long, is PERFECT- ok, not perfect, but he is strongly my fav kind of... more>> character, he is the perfect villain archetype, but deep down is just a baby sweetheart that wants that one person-- geez I love him.

Anyway, great narrative. Gives you all the drama you didn't know you could have by just reading the synopsis and it hits HARD. Beautiful.

*Back to An Long drama*

Can't find the words. It just took me WEEKS to come back to reading this 'cus every time I see An Long the malamute being cute and suffering for his (+/- spoiler) unrequited love it just BREAKS me

I guess he just began to move on and god it hurts so much 7-7 I'm deadass crying rn and damn, this novel is great. <<less

Dropping this because I don’t like the love triangle going on with this one. I know, it seems petty but I just can’t stand it so bye. I know love triangles are a common thing. I do read some in which there are love rivals for the ML, but I can get past that especially when the MC only has the ML in his heart, or when the MC is not emotionally stunted to not recognize the signs and thus would not do anything s*upid to lead the 3rd person... more>> on. Where I’m at, the MC doesn’t acknowledge or know of his feelings for ML yet, and then a 3rd party is just there causing chaos and whatnot. I don’t like it so I’m dropping it. Leaving this review for my future self to find in case I forgot about this and try to read it again. <<less

I'll warn you. This novel is kinda tr*sh on fire.

It did bring back some unpleasant memories in the begin but that is just a plus point for me.

all that system space being demons and what not and how the nearly villain on the story was actually the MLs good friend and how our MC was a heartless cultivator because he is actually a stone is really laughable

But it was entertaining. And wasted time enjoyed is not time wasted.

The story is indeed like a story within a story. And some descriptions like

I find the ML in this one quite relatable. So I give it a five stars <<less

I like leaving reviews for my future self hahaha.

I loved this novel so freaking much.

It's been a while since I last cried for a novel like this one, I didn't only cry because of heart pain but also of joy, because of the emotions this brought me, heh.

... more>> I was neglecting reading since long ago because of the abuse the ML suffered, I was in a very wrong mindset about all this topic of having previous abuse or not being totally pure, like in a lot of BL we read. Now, with all this, not only taking this as something solely fictional, this really hit me to reflect a lot of things from my view of the things and the world in quite a few topics.

The author was so centered in writing the book the way she. Wanted this to be since the beginning, she/he even specifies in an AN that she thought this very well and if we don't like, don't read, don't blame her. I admire that determination because it was a very good novel, well written, with a very good plot and how the parts are like a puzzle, fitting perfectly.

The psychological part was the best, as someone who's into this a lot, it could be seen how much understanding she gave her characters in building them this way and why and keeping the consistency in their every action.

The ML yandere is a example to follow. All ML Yandere should learn from him, if you live MC you should keep him locked up in the most clean place in the world like a treasure ah! Hahaha and really first time reading how the ML got cured from all that possessive thoughts... Wow, amazing, an author that absolutely won my respect.

Also first time reading a novel like in a lot more things, the ML being reborn in the same world as a god and making rivers flow red and mountains of corpses.... and then all that storyline with all that twists, amazing.

The ending of this novel, like when everything's revealed, reminded me of the ending of Holding onto my man, not similar but it gave me a kinda feeling in some things imo. The God's realm, MC being previously an in animate object, except for the scheming coming from the gods themselves. MCnot giving up in saving ML, HOMM is the opposite though heh just a feeling of familiarity hahahaha

Wanna re read in some time. in the future, it's worth it. <<less

Oh my god that was such a beautiful story!

I was not expecting it to be anything like this. I absolutely adore how the author tied everything in this novel together. I don't think there's a single loose thread by the end of it, which I'm surprised by considering how complex the story got.

I absolutely adored the characters. And to any potential readers, if you can handle the trigger warnings (because this story does start out really heavy), I promise that healing will happen and there's a lot more to this... more>> story and it's characters than meets the eye. <<less

Sweet, wonderful story.. it's very Full. So full that I don't even know where to start.

Expect around 3 samsaras.. although it's probably not appropriate to call it samsaras. There are a couple identities, and alot of plot. A full cast, and a beautiful wonderful love story between the two.

Half way through the novel I realized how relatable ML is... although his psychological quality can be described as 'abnormal' somewhat, I think it's quite relatable and done really well. The author had a firm grasp on it, great job.

I didn't like... more>> An Long at the beginning, when he became a love rival. To be honest I didn't like this character throughout the entirety of the book until the extras: where he became a friend/more platonic relationship with both of them. Hoping to see a sequel with him as the lead though! I think I'd like him alot more as a lead than a second male lead... <<less

I gotta say I did enjoy 3/4th of the novel. However the last 20 chapters were a total turn off. Idgaf bout the side couple honestly. It was very dragging, like get to the main god damn point. Other than that the novel was pretty good. The two MLs are cuties HAHAHA. I like the second male lead even though he be pitiful. But the first male lead is the perfect match for the MC. Sometimes, I really thought that the MC is gon become useless twig or something. But... more>> thank god he didn't. He still remained smart, accepting as well as not oblivious to HIS FEELINGSSS. This is the most important thing indeed. The system honestly was not necessary. It was just shoved in for the sake of the plot me thinks. Author-nim tots forgot bout it and shoved it back in the last 30 chapters which low key destroyed the plot. Eitherways was a good read! Loved the first half really. Hope you besties enjoy it as well.

GIVING IT A 8.5/10 🙏🏽💃 <<less

Definitely a good story if you want some light read that still have logic in it. Honestly I tend to stir far away from yandere gong or wolf in sheep clothing gong, since usually that story is borderline r*pe and the gong can be manipulative af. But fortunately this story isnt as such!

Yes the ML is still obsessively in love with MC but he still respects MC. He Definitely prioritize MC well-being as well as MC decisions over his obsession. I love how he still have respects for human decency... more>> unlike some other yandere gong.

ML and the MC isnt the OP type they might be stronger than most but definitely not to the point where they could demolish an entire planet with 1 flick of finger.

Also love how this author didnt downplay trauma. This isnt the story where love is medicine to psychopath and depression. And the characters' trauma isnt something that only appeared in 1 chapters then never brought up again.

To simply this story definitely focus more on the romance between MC and ML rather than the danmei aspect. Despite that this isnt just a "face slapping villain here and there in each chapter" type of story. The side characters is also interesting and not just written to be canon fodder that showcase ML/MC OP-ness. The story is not perfect there are several plot hole here and there but it doesnt greatly effect the reading experience and can be easily dismiss. <<less

Hmm, I'm just going to make this to say some things that XYJ mentions in their review are technically false, but I do understand the reason they believed so at that point of the story.

Spoiler

For example, the MC is not actually clueless towards the things going on around him. It is revealed later on that he does know many things but decided to be "oblivious" towards certain things because he doesn't know how to confront it or does it for the sake for the other person.

So in the chapters before that, I can understand why it may feel that way. At that point, I thought the same thing as well because there wasn't much indication that he did know, at least to me. But yeah, it still feels kind of weird to me that he's the same person who makes these comments about "not being like a girl, " like the other point they made, and also the dude who kinda knows almost "everything."
As for implying the shou is someone who is weak/womanly, not entirely sure bout that, but in a spoiler the translator made, the previous shou of the main story actually becomes pretty badass, and there's moments where our MC is badass too. But I do dislike when MC makes comments about not being like girls too.

MC also does eventually confront ML about some things, but it's further in the story.

Finally... well yeah ML is a genius can't dispute that lol not entirely sure if he's close to MC yet in the medical field, because in my opinion the things that ML seemed to have "out-performed" MC have certain factors that had given him the advantage, such as having all the experimental records of MC, the access to different resources provided in that world, and there were some things that the MC just straight up admitted to not researching because he wasn't interested. Everything else though, MC probably will lose out on.

The characters are truly meant to be together. I thought the writing--world building and plot logic especially--was very well done. There is a plot twist that I did not feel like I necessarily needed to experience. But it was a twist that made sense at least, I did not feel like it was pulled completely out of thin air. Worth a read!

I've dropped this novel three times before I actually finished it, all of those times during the first arc but I pushed through with my fourth attempt and I'm really glad I did. MSTV has the usual character settings of sunshine shou x black bellied gong but they were written in a way that justified those traits. As said in the summary there are depictions of s*xual abuse sprinkled throughout the novel and it was one of the reasons why I didn't really commit to it, I don't have high... more>> expectations on how it was going to be discussed but MC went about it in a way that was both in character and healthy which is quite rare.

Great world-building. Things I thought would remain unsolved and forgotten were patched up. The characters are lovely, SQS is definitely a name I would remember for a long time. Everything about him was striking and refreshing. It was extremely satisfying to see everything come together, the author gave so much clues on the backgrounds of the characters and in the end you'll see how everything fits together perfectly.

SQS's love for YWH is definitely one of the greatest I've ever read.

Spoiler

There's this moment when YWH's memories come back to him and he remembers every single time SQS kept on choosing him even when the system insisted YWH was the wrong answer and even when SQS was in really bad conditions during the time he reincarnated. I bawled my eyes out. There are so many more moments and each time I swear SQS's love felt tangible.

[collapse]

The 4.7 stars are there for a reason. Please give this a try! I only wished there were more extras. I laughed, I cried, and I rooted for these characters hard, I hope you do as well.

On a lesser note, I do think that the author prefers the ML a lot like A LOT but even then, the MC here is just so lovable and vibrant that even when the author has written him in way that the ML eventually surpasses him in almost all departments (looks, power, intelligence), the MC still shines through. Song Qing Shi you will always be my best boy, I hope you got to research and experiment as much as you want! <<less

It is a good story. The seme can be frustrating sometimes but tolerable and understandable and it is part of the seme's character flow. I love its uniqueness, I kinda dissatisfied on An Long's ending though, I have second lead syndrome. I would love a sub story for him and HE for the dragon.

I really want to write a lengthy, glowing review, but do not have the time.

I had to dash this out quickly since I did read it on the ML's birthday though!

This novel IS completely translated, and well. It is worth getting the password from CG's discord to read it all.

Suffice to say, this was a PHENOMENAL story, deeply satisfying and carefully crafted. The summary really doesn't do it justice and only scratches the tip. If you are interested in seeing a story with frank discussions about trauma, with a realistic... more>> psychological perspective, read this. If you like hurt/comfort, or painfully earned happy fluffy endings, read this. If you liked Who Touched My Tail, The Daily Task Of Preventing My Disciple From Turning To The Dark Side, The Legendary Master's Wife, Game Loading, Scum Villain Self Saving System, or Heaven Officials Blessing, read this for similar subject matter and themes. Worldbuilding, cosmology, important reoccurring side characters, elegant prettyboys, refusal to kinkshame side by side with punishment of actual rapists, deeply empathetic autistic coded MC and ocd coded ML with intrusive thoughts. Read. This.

MC: doesn't need the ending to "justify" his character. He's fine the way he is. You guys need to interact with more people irl if you think he's weak or dumb or useless because of EQ. Some people just really do need a translator to talk with others. Especially if they're the kind of person who thinks math homework is a good wedding gift. I would sum him up with the famous quote about how many failures it took to make a lightbulb work, but you only need to hold out for one success.

ML: Does his best to protect MC. Intellectually does not want to have a s*xual relationship with MC and hates himself for not being satisfied with their chaste cooperative research friendship. His fear of that part of himself and MC's honest and open acceptance of his neuroses and flaws is both good professional conduct and good friendship. I like the parallel at the end of how he needs to accept the dirty parts of himself without shame in order to accept the dirty parts of the world with understanding and hope.

Definitely also wish we got more extras about the 'neglected protagonist' learning to accept and embrace himself with both his weaknesses and strengths. He needs that arc closure. That would be the cherry on top for me. But I really liked the theme about how saving ML actually helped ML save that other protagonist. So good. <<less

I don't have anything I specifically want to praise about this book. It was pretty good overall. I feel I should take off 0.3 from the rating because it was hard to follow at times. Although at the very end some things were explained, I don't believe it was done very well. That's a small part of it though. If you read the description and it seems interesting to you, then it's certainly worth a read. I don't think you'll be very disappointed
