I Was a Sword When I Reincarnated (WN)

I opened my eyes to find myself in another world. For some odd reason, I ended up as a sword. Before my eyes laid a plain full of magic beasts, and so, I launched my body and flew in search of a partner, a wielder (females only).

Wait. Absorbing magic stones gets me skills? Oh hell yeah! This be fun! More, more, give me more! Gimme all your magic stones! Okay, yeah no , but I am accepting anything anyone’s willing to give.

This tale is one that follows your everyday nerd, normal as could be, save for the fact that he happened to reincarnate as a sword.

Although the story was slow during the first chapters due to the sword hunting skills. The story went up a notch when he or it met with Fran.

As of now the story is kinda slow after going out of the city and meeting up with the dead guy so lets see what happens

I was told that this story got better as it went along and... no, it didn't. However, in my first review I didn't explain the reason why very well (well, I'm always mostly intoxicated for most of the times, in fact I still am right now).

This series suffers from what I would call the "Bleach Effect" (does anyone even rbr Bleach anymore T.T). I have read about like 70-80ish chaps, since my first review (I'll keep my previous simpleminded thoughts in the spoiler section). What I mainly mean... more>> by the Bleach effect (look at this smug a*s making fun of multi-million dollar franchise, to those I say... Twilight was the same and people still sh*t on it.), the bleach effect, is simply a story that has no drive to it. The story has nowhere to go. It doesn't have a narrative like: pirate king or hokage. The story will continue for the sake of continuing, with the next thing to beat or the next problem. A plot is an end goal, it is where you, no, the story will eventually finish or keep trying to achieve even if it ends mid-way or things just change. So this story is purely an endurance test; you will read it till you get tired (with 343+ chaps and still going, huh? I guess I'm not wrong). I'm not saying that the story will never have a plot in the future, I am saying that the plot will not be the center of it. One of the only series that does this more or less competently is... well, One piece. It has a vague, plot characters with the motivation and reasons (very important) to follow the said plot.

My second gripe with the series is all the a*s-pulls, I mean the magic in the series is out of control. It just does everything the author wants it to do, I mean it tries to be a video game as well as real life. I mean even Donmachi, had a more believable magic system. If in this world some can regrow an arm and leg with high enough healing magic, what is there to stop people from being able to resurrect people from the dead? You know, there was another story that started like as well? DBZ. A manga so infamous for characters sabotaging themselves for the sake of creating tension. If you can revive people from the dead, most dangers after that are kinda meaningless. So, in this world if you don't know a good healer, you're f***ed.

My final gripes are with the characters and tone. Tone is all over the place. It really doesn't know where it wants to be. It doesn't know if it wants to be very childish or edgy and flip flops all the time sometimes even in the middle of life and death situations (in some fights they have very stupid banter, even when their enemy is super strong). Characters are stupid, bland and archetypes. They have a screwed personality, especially the protagonist and have no defined morals. Even after like what 80 chaps, all I know is that cat girl loves food and fight, and sword is a lolicon/father archetype.

How bad can a story really be? This is a question that all writers must face during the making of their craft (it's obvious that I have no idea where I wanted to with this nonsense). It's bad. Real bad.

I can only guess that this was written by a man-child (also definitely a deviant with anger issues), who has basic education (like middle school perhaps high school? if it is high school god plz help him). Really disappointing when you can feel that there is a lot of heart in the story, however I also play the guitar with a lot of heart and nobody is hiring me.

Might get better, might get worst. However, I got all I need to know from a few chapters. It isn't for adults or children but teens. Escapist teens that is. If you like that sort of stories well you might like it.

This novel is not really my cup of tea, but that's only because of how the status is made. I'm just a bit confused with all the skills. I know that MC is OP but I don't know if his opponents are equal or not since there's no Character Level, just Skill Level.

The story itself is good and enjoyable. It's akin to a slice of life (not sure since I didn't read really far, but I will in the next few days). We follow the MC through his evolution in... more>> another world. He quickly evolves into a super OP sword and is able to kill wyverns and giant slimes.

The plot itself is original, there aren't that many (if not any) novel on this website that offers a sword as an MC. Sure the MC will gain some skill that lets him create a human body or something akin but that's not a problem since it can add a relevant part to the story (ex: Does the MC want to become a human ?).

I've seen tons of transfered/reincarnated MC with cheat skills but this novel is a first for me. The author doesn't rush the story, he just has a quick pace (at the start I guess). He reminds me of Satou from Death March or Mikami Satoru from Tensei Shitara Slime Datta ken with their attitude ans OPness. Both don't know exactly how they were transported and are in possession of the most powerful stats. They can absorb skills (Satou has a copy/paste ability that he shows at the start of the novel) and have a mature personality if I may say so.

The first 6 chapters weren't edited, but the translation of Ensig's Writing is good and easy to understand without any major problems.

I do recommend this novel if you want to read some slice of life with an OP MC.
If you like this type of novel and wish to read more I recommend you : Death March, Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken. <<less

The Story is about a sword getting stronger though battle. The character's lack chemistry, typical Japanese character with cooking filler from time to time. But when the female lead is a 12-year-old slave girl, you can't expect good dialog.

But I still enjoyed the story so far since I wondered just how much more overpowered the sword will become. And that is what drives me to continue reading this story. As for the rest, I don't expect anything other than typical Japanese shenanigans.

This WN doesn't know what it wants to be. Slice of life? Fantasy? Shounen?

All of the above?

It increasingly becomes a problem when the plot continuously gets derailed for slice of life elements, leading to an incredibly thinned out and dry plot line. MC and Fran are being chased by evil demons? No problem, let's spend 30 chapters on a cooking competition! It's frustrating constantly skipping through filler. Half the chapters are about MC and Fran eating curry. I get it. The author likes curry. But it's a little much.

In a... more>> way the story feels very artificial. It makes no sense how the MC was killing rank C demon beasts within the first 15 chapters of the WN but him and Fran struggle against them here at chapter 200. Any and all antagonists they come across can be solved by power leveling through high rank mobs. A huge element that never seems to be taken advantage of. Like right now at ch 200 they're being chased around by the beast lord or whatever. But uhh.. Apparently the fact that he wants to kill them isn't as important as sitting around waiting for a martial arts tournament? A slice of life element literally nobody cares about. When you could, ya'kno, skip town and powerlevel to prevent your death? <<less

I find it a really good novel, diferent from the rest, in which the protagonist is a weapon and, from my point of view the true protagonist would be Fran. A really good novel that got me wanting to know what happens next.

honestly, the concept was fun at the start but it gets progressively boring to read as the sword gets more and more OP on his own.

the dependence on the wielder also eventually disappears and causes the novel to lose it's only unique setting.

The outcome of me reading this was a little bit of happiness and a lot of rage.

The plot starts to die off because they start to ... more>>

cook ewww

like Isekai-Raising Children. This makes the story get a 2/5

The characters are pretty enjoyable, especially the woman who had the title of

protector of children

I really liked her.

The translation is pretty good with a 5/5. If there's a Japanese term the TL usually puts it at the bottom of the chapter.

The setting is that of another world and don't expect a easy world, ok?

All in all, I'd recommend this to a close friend if they asked me if there was a interesting story out there. <<less

So this is what an addiction feels like...

I'm not sure why but some people want the MC to grind like its a game for years on end because fran holds him back raa like... have you ever not talked with anyone for a long amount of time? you do know that's how you go crazy right? also in later chapters they are crazy strong as a pair

the skills at the start are a bit out of hand, but its not talked about later I think the author cooled down lol..

One thing I want tho is for Fran to open up a little bit as she does kind of come off as inhuman (beast man) at times

Not action-adventure slice of life

I read this because of the relatively original premise sword new world expecting action adventure I was sad that the first obstacle an inanimate should have is the inability to move it’s solved via telekinesis automaticly he didn’t even have to try this is fine got the charecter going I guess but it’s indicaive of why this isn’t action adventure it’s slice of life no problem is solved creatively barring one or two fights are a foot note generally the few that aren’t is just throwing... more>> a bunch of skills at it till it stops then spend the next five chapters lamenting how amazing it was I’m only kinda exaggerating that last bit it puts a stop to at three now might see at something impressive if he didn’t literally have 100s of skills any of which he can switch out to have 10 active at any time making these fights pretty simple really not that these skills are often used in any way creative all the skills stupid overpowered

so obviously this isn’t what the book is about so now I learned I’m reading a slice of life I don’t like those at all But this one is particularly yawn inducing because the MCs are both bland and inconsistent I just don’t care how they interact with the world because of that also author is terrible about making the world revolve around the mcs

world building is flat and unoriginal

and translator makes very regular error also can’t spell gold if that’s intentional idc there are plent other mistakes translation quiality 3/5 on the most recent cite <<less

I tried really hard to like this story after reading the first ~3 chapters of the manga. Story takes off when he meets Fran a child catgirl slave whom he decides to help to make her dream of evolving, which her parents died trying to accomplish.

However, the story falls a bit flat because before the MC even met Fran he killed and stole the skills of one of the most dangerous and high level monster infested area. I really wish it focused more on Fran since she's a catgirl from... more>> a fantasy world and not another Japanese guy who died from a car. I want to learn more about this new fantasy world and how it works not about the weird hang ups from otaku Japanese sword dude.

I wish the sword wasn't so OP in stealing all the skills and giving it to the girl. I wish it was more creative with the skills used and wasn't so on the nose and brute forced. The skills and abilities feel a bit earth shattering and made up as the story goes along. I find the sword and the girl's relationship to be quite cute and hope it doesn't go down the lolicon route.

My biggest problem with this story is just that the tone is all over the place. Like some other reviews mentioned, the catgirl is sometimes kind and a child while other times a merciless killer who tries her hardest and at times is really self motivated. The MC is a loner otaku that doesn't trust anyone except when he meets cute girls or the story needs him to. Lots of wasted potential in this story for me. <<less

This mostly features an sword with a beast-lover lolicon personality which was inherited from earth. I think that MC makes a lot of not-so-good choices, but every MC does that. I also believe that the author is pushing himself too hard to increase chapters because there isn't much plot.

a story about 12 yo girl traveling to discover about his future evolution and became sadistic. It was really good when she began torturing someone :D, but at some point the concept power is imbalance (number status and skill).

one thing make me wondering is when fran was has some money but only buy necessity for master once time and still never buy again.

As much as I would like to read more, I just can't get the plot nor paint a picture with the narrative I'm given. Here's the takeaway: The MC is supposed to be a sword that can move, fly, see his own stats... And MC can also see himself [how?], use magic [tolerable.], can take skills from others... basically a cluster-f*ck of how, why, and "didn't I see that cheat used in another novel?". One thing is for sure, that childish protagonist tag is correctly placed.
