In the original novel, she possessed a villainous empress who was burned at the stake.

She tries to improve her reputation to avoid being burned at the stake and live a peaceful life after getting divorced, but her bank balance is zero and her family is completely destroyed.

Can she achieve the life she wants in this strange world where even the plot of the original story is completely twisted and she can’t see a single step ahead?

This is a story about a villain who goes from being an official public enemy of the empire, called a witch and hated by everyone, to an accidental hero of the nation.

This story follows all the clichés of the classic villainess replacement story - but it does them really really well. Something important to note is that every character is humanized and sympathetic to a point - even the original villainess that was possessed. All characters grow and develop in ways that make sense and are sympathetic - the pov is constantly switching, and at no point does anything feel forced for the sake of the plot or cliche. You fully understand why everyone - heroes and villains- are taking the... more>> actions they're taking, and why they feel that they're genuinely in the right for doing so.

Something else this story handles well. The guilt of the people around her who - having hated the ogvillainess, now find themselves charmed by her and feel disgusting, like they've crossed their own bottom lines- and many that are just completely unwilling to give her any sort of second chance.

The good things our FL is doing don't seem forced and and actually work to address classism in ways that don't feel like an obligatory thrown-in- as well as her own motivations for doing so going beyond "I'm a good guy". <<less

The MC and ML seem a little um... dumb, or maybe I should say innocent? But otherwise it's an enjoyable read. The MC is trying her best to undo the sins of the body she's in, but realistically what can you do when the original killed people or indirectly caused their deaths?
