Very interesting book. If you are tired of wuxia then read this.

It is about a guy, who can take out things from movies and tv shows. Not fantasy but sc-fi. He cant take out everything.

There a very good reason for that, that is slowly explored as the story goes on.

... more>> The MC is hella smart. He sorts of like take out things and research them, find out their technology and tries to give himself a superpower (which is not that easy) as no avengers, and stuff.

The story is very well written, good plot, good pace and clever MC, no face slapping and no chinese nationalism.

The MC is kind of like a scientist who will do anything for science, he does human experiment and stuff. If thats not your forte, then stop.

MC doesnt fight with powerful people, but more like cooperates with them, but MC has all the power.

MC is sometimes like a mad genius, so much that you can fell the chill.

He forms a multi billiondollar comapany, give ted talks all in a believale manner.

Story is totally worth reading

You have seen movies in which a company have influence everywhere, is hidden, and is powerful and usually the protaginist fight against them but here MC is the villian. Sort of like umbrella cooperation.

The MC is confident, like a succesful person, if he stomps the world economy shakes. If you want an underconfident, relatable, cuck MC then this book is not for you.

No romance.

I don't get why people are ranting about info dumps. Its a sc-fi novel. There will be information provided. If they don't want it, they should jus read the usual s*upid xuanxia novels. MC loses his humanity real quick, Its a plus point for me.

I am sick of the people, ranting befoe they have read enough chapters. He gets rich real quick, but money is not his end goal. Scientific research and immortality is. The books has no nationalism. MC pretty much ignores chinese government, he is even in opposite camp to china.

The MC of this story is like the epitome of "Big Brain Time." He uses extensive logical reasoning to come to completely irrational conclusions. He is alive due to plot armor alone.

You can take that two ways: either as a flawed yet interesting MC... or really f*cking annoying. Ngl, the MC reads a bit like a 13 year old on a power trip who thinks he's Sherlock Holmes and Iron Man (with all of their flaws and few of their abilities).

A few gems include:

Spoiler
    • Deciding that the first thing he is going to use the USB to extract from a movie-verse is a drug to increase intelligence which he knows is addictive and deadly. And that it would be enough to just test it on a few mice for a few weeks, and that would prove safety. The only excuse he has in this case is, well, he hadn't taken the intelligence drug yet so he's an idiot.
    • Unfortunately, even after acquiring a few drug-induced brain cells, he's still an idiot. When he realizes that he will need money for an industrial amount of electricity so he can recharge the USB and extract a cure for the wonder drug that is now killing him, the only thing his MASSIVE brain power can think of is: coincidentally encountering a rich female student who will bankroll his stem cell research as long as he will give her first author credit so she can get into graduate school.
    • The above bullet point needs an additional bullet point so we can unpack that. WTF was he going to do if he didn't meet the rich lady and use Sherlock deductions to persuade her to rent a super expensive lab (and that cheating is a good idea) ? All he had been doing up until that point was read books in the library. Also, stem cell research? Why? I mean, it's a hot field, but not exactly a fast and guaranteed money maker...
    • When, due to a series of predictably s*upid events, rich lady's academic advisor decides he wants to force his way into their research and take credit... MC confronts him about the mu*der of his first wife and hypnotizes him into committing su*cide????? Two big problems here: 1) Advisor guy might be rather ethically bankrupt in his academics, but it's really f*cking convenient that he's also a mu*derer, and that MC can Sherlock-deduct this based on a photo and some google-fu. 2) Hypnotism??? Essentially killing the advisor??? Do I need to explain why that is a s*upid solution? MC is supposed to have an IQ of over 9000 at this point. He can't think of any other way to avoid letting the advisor take the credit?!?
    • Deciding to drop out of school and get a business loan instead. What was the point of the stem cell research then!?? Why didn't MC just do that from the start??
    • Tracking down and blackmailing a bunch of infamous hackers (who conveniently live nearby)... to fund and promote his new app. Because now he develops apps, ofc. Why does so much of this novel read like a get-rich-quick scam?
    • His blackmail turned business deal is successful with three of the four hackers. The fourth hacker he has to... hypnotize!!! Why is it hypnotism to death again!!!!!! (
      )
[collapse]

I think most of the MC's actions can be classified as interesting yet s*upid. The s*upidity lends a bit of unpredictability I guess? The MC is a rather disturbed individual obsessed with immortality and lacking in morals.

Additionally, there is some sexism and nationalism/racism. Not as overt as it could be, but a bit irritating nonetheless. For example:
Spoiler

Rich lady, who was bankrolling his research so she could get into graduate school... decides to become his secretary. This is supposed to be a woman who has completed her undergraduate education in a scientific field, essentially spending years of her life pursuing this career in defiance of her father's wishes that she take over his company.

It was bad enough when during the research, all scientific aspects were done by the MC and his random roommate (who is a freshman) while she just did "logistics" like "fetching water." Even if she is having trouble getting into a competitive graduate program, that doesn't mean she's so incompetent that she would be worse at assisting in an experiment than his freshman roommate!!

Then, after publishing the research she just... quits. Tracks him down so she can join his company as a secretary. "Fetching water" is mentioned again (like that's all a woman is good for), as well as unnecessarily extensive descriptions of her legs.

The only saving grace is that there are not very many female characters to begin with, so you can ignore it mostly.

[collapse]

Another Example:
Spoiler

The nationalism/racism is pretty standard. The occasional pro-China, pro-government line thrown in there, the head hacker of the hacker group Anonymous is, of course, from Mainland China (unbeknownst to all those foreigners who would be shocked to know this... like ok buddy, if it makes you feel better to point that out. You could have just made him Chinese, I wouldn't have cared. Then you killed him off, so I'm not exactly sure what your aim was?)

Foreigners tend to be portrayed as super arrogant and anti-Chinese. I'm not saying there aren't people like that, and I don't want to downplay the discrimination that people face. But it can't be healthy to think that the entire country of Switzerland doesn't like Chinese people. My man, I promise, the people of that country have better things to do than sit around eating chocolate and saying "f*ck the Chinese!" They are not thinking about you that much.

I've seen way worse though, so you can definitely ignore it.

[collapse]

The most unrealistic parts of the story aren't the supernatural bits, it's things like agreeing and signing a $4 billion contract in a day. As if! If I could extract something from this world with a USB, it would be this fantastical ability to cut through bureaucracy like butter.

It's an okay read if you don't keep your expectations too high. I went into this knowing that the MC is very flawed (based on other reviews), and I feel like that helped. There is a bit of anticipation in wondering what crazy thing he is going to do next.

I stopped reading at chapter 60 because the MC's villainous tendencies were surpassing his interesting actions, and the "science" was getting less and less plausible. I wavered on giving it 3 stars for my earlier enjoyment, but in the end I couldn't bring myself to raise it above 2. Someone else may enjoy this story more.

I'm only a bit in, but I'll just say 'Interesting, but not impressive'.

The Good:

  • MC starts out as a kinda smart, everyman-ish type of character.
  • Some of the biology stuff isn't gobledigook- though a bit overblown as to 'results and impact'.
  • Watching the MC's 'plan' develop is kinda interesting.
The BAD:

  • Many of the technical assumptions the author makes are ludicrous.
    • Spoiler

That VR headset? It's just a terminal device- it needs to connect to the actual 'brain' through the net (the company's servers). You're not pulling all this useful code off- since it wouldn't be there.

      [collapse]
  • Many of the decisions the character makes are nowhere near 'intelligent'-
    • Spoiler

Not even going to touch that silly 'hypnosis' segment.

      [collapse]
    • Spoiler

Why quit school? Take a 'leave of absence'.

      [collapse]
    • Spoiler

Don't even know if this idiot has a family- but apparently not, as they wouldn't worry about him dropping out.

      [collapse]
    • Spoiler

How long before this guy decides to 'intelligently' extract a device/method to recharge his USB stick?. He's just burning money without a real plan.

      [collapse]
    • Spoiler

Watching his supposedly 'intelligent' business, investment & negotiation plans is just short of painful.

      [collapse]
    • Spoiler

His ridiculous, questionable, public purchase of a run-down, obssolete data center- only to subsequently, s*upidly invest more into it completely forgets he had an AI and hidden associates that could have done this crap for him secretly, and he could have 'acquired' it after changes were made.

      [collapse]
    • Spoiler

Later, the MC evolves to dumb plans initially involving technological s*avery, unethical experiments, and general 'imperialist', corporate a**holery. Very Gary Stu forced plotting

      [collapse]
  • This is really just an odd 'this is how I would do this', Gary Stu wish fulfillment story. In particular the personality traits the author 'forces' on the MC are silly 'how a cool guy should act' bs.
  • I gave up @ ch77. It got too pointless/s*upid for me.
The Different:

  • A 'dues ex machina' device that makes other 'deus ex machina' devices? Why am I not surprised?
All the difficulties aside, I was interested to see where this was going (maybe find out who the previous owner was or what happened with all those horror movies) - but eventually I had to give up. 'Not a bad idea', but the author dragged it down till I didn't care.

I am at around chapter 450. My only problem so far is with the MC. Sometimes he is too emotionally unstable and does stuff that is very extreme. The author himself is at least aware of this and the surrounding characters comment this behavior.

There is a hidden plot going on with the USB Drive and the world setting.
For example there is the Word Government that formed after the fall of the Soviet Union. The MC finds this very strange that somehow all superpowers started working together.
Spoiler

There are at least 2 other people who had the USB Drive before him. The one before him was responsible for the formation of the World Government. He pulled out a Quantum Computer for them that only predicts future disasters. The World Government was formed around the Quantum Computer to prevent the world from getting destroyed. Which almost happened twice since the beginning of the story.

[collapse]

Spoiler

The MC is the 3rd holder of the USB Drive. The 2nd holder turned himself into a metaphysical existence that wanted to take over the consciousness of the whoever the next holder is.
He found out some secret about the USB Drive and got scared as f*ck of the 1st holder. So he tried to hide himself from the 1st holder with this method. He was the one who put the horror movies at the beginning of the story into the USB Drive. Had the MC opened those movies first, the 2nd holder would have succeeded.

The 1st holder was revealed to be the Professor who gave the lecture when the MC found the USB Drive. The MC speculates that it was way too much of a coincidence that it was him of all people that found it. And he was chosen by the Professor for some reason to be the 3rd holder.

[collapse]

Spoiler

The USB Drive itself holds some strange secret. It wasn't always in the form of a USB Drive. Since USB was invented around 1994. The USB Drive can change shape, the reason is unknown.

Places the USB Drive accepts have to be scientifically possible. What falls under "scientifically possible" is up to the author. The movies he chose are understandable.
Another requirement is that the world background has to be detailed enough. The MC tried once a movie, but he couldn't open it. So he put the sequels and TV series into it, and then it was accepted.
It is also hinted that it could be any piece of literature like books or games.

The first feature is that stuff can be copied from movies. To get stuff out of the USB drive requires electricity of equal amount. Something small like pills doesn't require much power. But something big like a car needs a huge amount of electricity to copy.

The second feature is that it can open a portal to the specified world. The MC finds it very strange that the worlds he goes to are always destroyed or wiped out. Even though in the movies there wasn't a hint of something apocalyptic going on.
For example "Ready Player One". When he goes there to get VR technology he finds out that everyone is dead.
Another example is "Elysium" where he gets the MedPod 3000 that can heal every type of injury. He finds out that everyone is dead and only giant piles of bones remain.

The third and hidden feature is that the movies he opens affect reality. He once experimented with making movies himself and accessing the world. He financed a movie where someone made the lesser version of the "Limitless" drug that could cure Alzheimer's. The background was Earth a couple of years into the future, the fictional company and researcher who invented the drug turned up in reality in the same year the movie played out.
Another one was the same disaster that wiped out Elysium turned up on Earth and almost killed everyone if the MC hadn't intervened.

[collapse]

These mysteries and hidden plot surrounding the USB Drive and World background are thrilling to read. The story thankfully doesn't have s*upid Chinese nationalism and brain-dead racism. My only problem is that the MC sometimes behaves extremely erratic. If it wasn't that there are plot reasons that interfere mess up with MC's thinking I would have dropped the novel long ago.

Welp, Ain't bad, Pretty good I suppose

On the level of The legendary Mechanic, Super Detective in Fictional World and one level lower than Lord of Mysteries.

... more>> #VERY DIFFERENT FROM MONSTER FACTORY

Carry on and the adventure of a ruthless MC comes!

Pros:

-No face slapping

-Very thought provoking

-Logic is straight line, no paradox or nonsense writing so far

-Time Line is ok, not too rushed (unlike some who made 2000 chapters adventure in the span of a year)

-NO Nationalism/Racism!!!

Cons:

-Ruthless (farewell innocents, MC is a politician indeed)

-Too high level of logic (or bullsh*t I suppose, but you can just skip the explanation part) <<less

This novel kinda reminds me of '48 Hours a Day' novel at first glance but goes downhill fast. I tried to continue but gets unbearable. I'm sorry for even comparing the two. Forget it. This novel is suffering from "Idiot MC" being portrayed as "smart" by the author. MC is acting all too important and author's description of the MC like he's some cool-ass mastermind in the dark which makes me cringe lol. Author also keeps describing the MC as calm but then suddenly coming at people aggressively and very... more>> childish. There are many minor problems here including the Supporting characters and enemy characters. Not important enough to be addressed but a huge reason for low ratings because there's lots of 'em. Also, not sure about racism later in the story, but I can feel heavy nationalism before I dropped this. I've never enjoyed China novels with nationalism, because it's filled with so much deep misinformation.

Ugh. Whatever.

I didn't notice the Horror tag on this novel. Don't be like me. This story can be a chill slice of life where the MC is OP af on Earth, but it can also be fking terrifying with all the meme and subspace aspects.

The premise is quite interesting, and the USB drive proves to be very overpowered for the MC to achieve his goals. The gradual progression of the USB channel allows for a variety of experiences that the MC has to go through, but also brings along many of... more>> its own scary af dangers. An actual attempt at wrapping up the story with a fitting ending, though there were still a lot of unfinished questions.

A complaint I have is that a lot of the chapters are filled with unnecessary essays about the "sciences" behind concepts. I don't need you to tell me all about the background and history of these scientific theories bro, stop padding your word count. I just skipped past all of those. <<less

I don't have much to say but 2 things.

1. This novel is good but it's not a light fun read, there's a lot of info dump from random college classes

2. This novel genre is a LIE, at some point after ch 200 (idr exactly when) but there's already more than one horror story arc. Each lasts at least 30 chap and not recommended to read at night

Quite a decent read I must say. The vibe is slightly similar to the one Super Monster Factory gives, but its more technical in some aspects and less familiar with the legal side of stuff on the other hand.

EDIT c386:

It only gets better with time, though there was a slight shift towards more... lets say governmentally supported values the sci/fi side of things and the moral questions still have a strongly presence.

One of the best, intelligent MC that starts a multibillionaire corporation that also has powers he developed through science and technology. He also keeps improving himself and doesn't slack off.

No romance in this either, so no distraction.

The meme arc is great and really disturbing and scary so props for author for making that.

... more>> Also quite a ruthless MC, which makes it very interesting.

Finally, the best selling point is... no nationalism. There is like one scene early on with Facebook in the novel that people say is nationalism, I just say is being an businessman. MC doesn't bow to China, and actually works with other countries government. Don't know where other people are saying the nationalism coming fro.

Hope there's a sequel to this, hopefully with Chen Chen. <<less

Great novel, it has some rough parts but I feel that adds to the realism. The info dumps can be a bit tedious but I feel that it kind of adds to the environment of the novel.

Favorite thing with this novel though is that everything in the novel seems to be relevant later on, like things build up instead of being consistently ignored.

In the beginning the novel tries to have a science base and with all the mistakes might make you dislike it, but if you read on and past mystery/horror section you find that gem in the story.

I thought about stopping but then at around the chapter 300 it changed and I got hooked.

Spoiler

As already know the MC can get items from movie world and later travel to them. The huge thing is that the movies will come true and the fun part is how he tires to resolve them.

Resident Evil, Superpowers, Skynet, Doom's Mars Aliens. The premise is all Movies end in Menkinds destruction somehow and he has to work against that. Like a child trying to solve his past mistakes by using the USB and the earth ready for everything that has yet to come.

Feeling sick of isekai or cultivation sh*t or system sh*t with face slapping? If yes then this might be a good option for you. However, if you hate science then you might not like this novel since there will be a lot of scientific terms included in every chapter. Otherwise, you will be one of those people rating this novel negatively.

This will be science oriented novel with a bit of fantasy included but every fantasy component will try to have a scientific explanation. No harem or even romance. MC is... more>> smart and highly logical thinking. A bit of extremist but the writer is aware of this point and having side characters tries warning him also provides a good explanation for each of his decision. At the end of the story, every point that seems to be mysterious will all be solved with proper reasons. <<less

So, this is a great novel. It kept me hooked until the end. That said, there are some problems.

Firstly, a problem with a lot of novels I read lately, the ending was ridiculously abrupt. As in, the big bad guy suddenly revealed himself for no reason, fought the main character after spouting out his goals, all the missing information we haven't received thus far, and one of the most lackluster "final fights" I've ever read. They barely even describe the fight, you barely know what the enemies power is. There... more>> was literally no build up to the final fight, it just happened.

Secondly, the plot. At first, I think it was great. Obviously, this is a sci-fi/fantasy novel/infinity novel, so there are likely a ridiculous amount of plot holes in this story. However, it isn't terribly obvious, and you'd have to think fairly in-depth to discover most of them, especially on the technology portion. However, midway through the novel, the plot starting falling off. At first, it was okay, it wasn't anything too damning. However, once we get further into the topics such as subspace, the plot loses all cohesion thus far. I felt like they were combining a bunch of movie plots at this point. But, despite all this, it was enjoyable.

Another point to the plot, is that theres a lot of loose ends. The large majority of the plot fails to make any sense once you read the ending.

Semi-Major Spoilers
Spoiler

Eventually, the main character is able to cross into different parallel worlds, specifically movie worlds. At first, almost all of them are in a apocalyptical state, or humanity is wiped out. Elysium/Doom/Resident Evil, etc. However, theres no explanation for how Elysium or the Doom world were wiped out. I think this has to do again, with how abrupt the ending was.

[collapse]

Final point is power scaling. It sucks. It's awful. The author clearly put zero work into it. For example, this once again has to do with the abrupt ending. Due to a bunch of bullshit, the main character magically becomes as powerful as a bunch of wannabe Gods. This whole sequence is highly questionable if not lacking any form of logic whatsoever. The ending was literally just a bunch of lucky coincidences and plot armor. The main character just so happened to be slightly weaker than the main antagonist. (Again, considering what the main antagonist had the power to do, this makes zero sense.) Thus, after some plot armor, the main character multiplies his power by three times, then wins. Thats it.

Spoiler

This story is a infinity novel. You can travel to most worlds as long as they are vague enough so that the USB drive can conform it to fit into the universes laws. Of course, this rule is questionable at best, and at worst doesn't have any form of logic whatsoever. So, a few worlds that are available are Star Wars and Pokemon. I'm sure you could eventually become a God-like being in star wars, so why is the main antagonist so weak. And why is the only person who went to the Star Wars universe even weaker?

[collapse]

Overall, this novel steadily downgrades in terms of plot cohesiveness and logic as the story goes on. As long as you turn your brain off through it, this novel is an enjoyable mystery/thriller/horror novel that I would readily recommend. The only main complaint I have about it is the nonsensically abrupt ending. <<less

I'm going to be very brief in the review. I mainly gave this novel a low rating because it played havoc with my morality! All my carefully cultivated moral were constantly violated. The nonchalance that this MC has towards the HUMAN clones was ridiculous and the way that the African people were treating as if they were animals that he could round up and slaughter just because he had money and could just didn't sit right with me and I couldn't help thinking, if only a little bit is this... more>> really how the Chinese see the outside world? Well, the original premise is not too bad, there's some decent effort at world building and some attempt at decent scientific rules (or at least close to decent) regarding the superpower etc.

However it really goes to sh*t when the obvious fantasy elements play too significant a role, what with the anti-memes and conceptual stuff. The ghosts were just... lame. Author clearly just grabbed elements of horror stuff without really bothering how it should even fit in a Sci-Fi setting, just turned it into fantasy/parallel-world when it suited.

The final kicker would... more>> be the final act where he blatantly copies the (SPOILER) Warhammer 40k ultimate macguffin, the chaos realm, to explain EVERYTHING (infinite capability of fiction to reality, reality warping, etc.). He might as well have set himself up as the Emperor actually... that was how s*upid it became in the last act.

If you don't have high expectations and just want a casual brainless read, its.... acceptable. Otherwise, there's many other parallel world/sci-fi novels out there. <<less

Things move too fast.

MC is too overconfident.

It blatantly moves in Solo Edgelord direction (even lampshaded by "Losing connection to humanity? Who cares, I would be awesome".

And frankly speaking story is not that good to care about what happens without caring for MC.

This novel feels almost tailor-made for me. The setting being the modern real world, and the power system is very real science and science fiction-based. The author talks about all my favorite movies to great extent, Chronicle, Lucy, Limitless, and many others. The MC sets up his main base of operations in Namibia, one of my favorite countries. It's very science based, which I LOVE!

I have seen a lot of bad reviews for this from people who obviously never read more than 20 chapters. Some claiming that there are plot... more>> holes and every single one I'm grating my teeth because everything they are complaining about is thoroughly explained in detail if only they would've stuck with it.

There was even one review claiming that he got everything he wanted by chapter 40 when he sold exclusive rights to a product for 4 billion USD, therefore nothing else mattered after that point or something. Let me make this clear, the MC doesn't care about money at all, that is made abundantly clear over and over again. That 4 billion dollars is just a tool for him to use to acquire research labs, expand into other countries, create more value, etc. Also, I hate these reviews where people are saying he isn't using NZT48 fully or should be able to accomplish more, like seriously? Is building outposts on Mars not enough for you? Sure, it has its shortcomings, but I just can't stand to see it compared to tr*sh like that Mansion in the Apocalypse novel that the author can't even distinguish between amps and volts in. <<less

This genre of novel where the MC is able to bring 'Black Tech' to the real world, in the same vein as 'I own a mansion in a post-apocalyptic world' or some other novel that also works as a fan fiction is RIGHT UP MY STREET.

The only problem is, a great many chapters literally feel like reading an essay from a second year college student. It's basically Wikipedia but it's been reworded so that student can pass as not having plagiarised from somewhere, not forgetting the word bloat/waffling so your... more>> assignment looks more impressive to your teacher.

This novel does take a bit of a different track though, in that there's not really any interaction with the rest of the world going on and the speed of wealth gain, he's basically a billionaire in forty chapters and most of the choices the MC makes are either nonsensical, a waste of time or purely exist out of plot armour and ignorance, an example is that when looking at tech to bring into the real world the author's ignorance is the character's ignorance there are plenty of movies and tv shows not even mentioned, also the fact the MC can make anything he want real by just making a movie of the thing he wants at any time- it's REALLY ANNOYING that the MC only uses this ONCE up to where I am (c.261). The MC progresses WAY TOO FAST, too fast to enjoy the build up- it's like a premature ejaculation and the rest of the story feels like trying to get hard again.

The MC has a family but he literally calls them twice in like four years and sees them for the first time in chapter 261- where we learn he has more than just parents.

TL;DR- no build up, gets rid of almost all the interesting stuff early, then spends 150-200 chapters up to 261) trying to enjoy the story and wading through the never ending wikipedia dump of science info. I don't need to know about the 9 types of nuclear fusion reactor and how they work nor do I care. I know the general idea of how they work, I don't need to know about superconductors, coils, resistance etc- I just want the god damn story to move forward. <<less
