Valhǫll, a fantasy game with a touch of modernity.

I thought I’d give it one last try with the rewards of achievements.

I acquired extraordinary traits like [Death Avoidance], [Ironman], [Winds], traits I wouldn’t have chosen in ordinary circumstances.

But I should have never started.

I fell into a game where reaching the ending seemed impossible.

With the body of an orphan wandering the market alleys.

[Devil’s Blood], [Worst Condition], [Eccentric Actions], [Mysophobia].

Plus burdened with hidden penalty traits.

“Damn it.”

Can I survive?

No. I must survive, no matter what it takes.

spoilers first 3 chapters

"With the body of an orphan wandering the market alleys."

MC stayed an orphan for a grand total of 1 (2?) chapter, during which MC was in a chase/run sequence until getting caught and switching careers.

... more>> "Plus burdened with hidden penalty traits."

the ret*rd MC didn't even bother to check his penalty traits, they're not hidden, MC even says that status window shows penalty traits (ch2). He does check it several chapters later, but would a Calm/Clever protagonist be this dumb.

"Can I survive?"

MC is not an orphan, this novel is not about an orphan MC surviving, it's about being a Spy.

whoever is responsible for making the synopsis should change their life goals, authors should not be allowed to write a synopsis for their own novels, they always write tr*sh that has nothing to do with the actual novel.

also game elements are quite non-existent, yeah they're there, but they're very minimal to the point you can spend dozens of chapters not hearing anything about "status window" or anything game related, apart from MC knowing the general plot of what will happen.

MC did not "acquire" those traits, he chose them.

"I fell into a game where reaching the ending seemed impossible."

again bs, the game did not have an ending so player character would get killed off in-game before reaching end-point, which simply means MC doesn't know how the game ends, not that it is impossible to win now that he got pulled into the game for real.

also just wondering, Mysophobia in this novel means that MC MUST brush his teeth every time he eats, it gets constantly mentioned to the point MC refuses to eat food cause he won't be able to brush his teeth afterwards. Is this real? I don't have mysophobia, but this seems excessive. No idea

oh yeah also MC turns into a p**syboy and for whatever unknown alien reason decides that he's in the wrong or that he cannot refuse to do something even though there is no reason to agree. MC literally apologized for over-sleeping, while the person who could have woken him up was just watching him the entire time. Whose fault is it then ffs. MC didn't want to do something, but still agreed to do it, because "I nodded my head. There was no use fighting a battle I couldn't win." wtf instead of refusing, he can't win a battle of words? Wtf is the point of Clever Protagonist and Genius Protagonist tags if MC is so f*cking ret*rded he can't even refuse a suggestion during his free time when he doesn't need to listen to anyone's orders <<less

It's nice with its approach of the type of game and so on. The novel doesn't make the game he transmigrates into super popular or anything, it's just a suspicious game with players. Although he doesn't show it much, he cares for his friends and constantly grows through his different situations. Some parts are annoying like his [worst condition] trait cause it basically stops us from seeing his full potential...

Average and disappointing.

It was honestly going well, but the author was too much in a rush to try to bond the MC and the readers with the side characters.

A good read manipulates you subtly, without your notice. The author stretched his hand too far in this novel and I, noticing his manipulative intentions, couldn't feel immersed.

... more>> And the side characters are about as generic as korean side characters get.

The plot is also very safe, MC getting lucky all the time and avoiding all the more interesting stuff. Only one of the penalties is actually a penalty. And even then, it has a buff sometimes.

Overall, author plays it safe and generic, ending up somewhere in that pile of "tr*sh of the count's family" deformed clone variant novels. <<less

MC is your typical smart character with amazing luck. He has a weak body, but it's still decently strong and he also has an ability/mystic called Winds, so it's not that big of a deal. Side characters are pretty generic - the only one that's decently fleshed out is the princess. Romance:
Spoiler

The princess does indeed fall in love with MC, but so far she's the only one so I'm going to assume she's the female lead. Novel doesn't focus on romance at all, but she's a pretty important character so it does affect her relationship with MC.

[collapse]

Everything usually goes according to plan and even if it doesn't, MC obviously makes the most out of the situation. I forgot to mention, but MC also has Mysophobia. The review above seems to criticize it and says it's too excessive, but it really depends on the severity of the mysophobia. I think MC brushing his teeth really doesn't matter all that much and it becomes unimportant later on, it was just mentioned like that in the beginning so the reader understands what it means to have mysophobia for MC. There's also a system, but it's not that important here. MC does indeed have the ability to level up the so called "Stratagem", but it's insignificant. The titles he obtains also give him small buffs, so there's that. The leveling up is so slow that it almost doesn't affect the plot at all.

Devil's blood explanation:
Spoiler

MC has something called Devil's blood. It also gives him buffs, but only when his desire for something is really strong. If people figure out MC has Devil's blood, he will most likely be kidnapped by the Devil's worshippers and get experimented on.

[collapse]

MC got really lucky with the penalty traits. Even if he has 3 of them, they were the best ones he could have gotten. He literally could have gotten Cannibalism, Vampirism and other horrible traits. I gave it 4 stars because even if it's still pretty generic, I think the plot is pretty good and I like the premise. I also got too attached to the MC so I'm kind of biased, but I would recommend to read if you have time. I would probably give it a 7/10.
