In the post-apocalyptic world, Bai Jing has awakened his most useless ability – Sense Perception: the ability to sense active objects (including zombies) within 20 meters of him.

But he was brutally left behind by his teammates during a mission… When he wakes up again, Bai Jing is transported to the future mecha era! In this era where all energy is provided by emeralds, Bai Jing accidentally comes into contact with gambling stones, and his most useless powers in his previous life become the strongest in gambling stones. Bai Jing went from being a gambling apprentice to a gambling master, and eventually reached the highest peak of the gambling world – a divine gambling master!

Gu Yuanzhao, heir to the first interstellar plutocracy, the youngest Major General in history, and voted the most charming man in the stars – is the dream man of all young men and women in the Empire.

One day, however, Gu Yuanzhao actually publicly admits to having a partner, and it’s a gambling master they have never heard of. Gu Yuanzhao’s fans were furious: “There are so many gamblers out there, who is this Bai Jing? He’s from the slums and he’s ugly!” Unexpectedly, the next day, the bigwigs came out to defend Bai Jing.

The chairman of the gambling guild dispelled the rumour: “This is the only god-ranked gambler in our guild!”
The head of the statistics bureau dispelled the rumour: “Bai Jing is already worth tens of billions of dollars and is ranked in the top ten of the rich list!”
Gu Group’s senior management disproved the rumor: “Bai Jing and Young Master Gu are of equal face value and equal strength!”

On the third day, fans saw Bai Jing who had taken off his glasses and were all too shocked to speak.

#My CP has come true! # Later, they found out: the beautiful face of the world was him, the divine gambling master was him, the genius energy master was him. All the titles were his!

I would give it four stars, but if I'm being realistic and not only looking at how I feel while reading, I know logically that even three stars might be too much. I'll try to give an unbiased review.

So

MC is OP straight away. He gets what he wants most of the time and the things he needs are readily available with the help of Plot and ML. There's some face-slapping, light intrigue, and MC ofc becoming the best in whatever field he chooses to apply himself while also earning the... more>> envy and admiration of the entire Interstellar world. Overall, this is your stereotypical Interstellar Transmigration novel.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of repetition in this novel.

For instance, whenever MC appears, his "beautiful eyes" are mentioned. To the point that it's annoying.

Also, ML's appearance is every Chinese BL ML ever - tall, narrow waist, broad shoulders, long legs, a sense of abstinence, sword-like eyebrows, thin lips, cold eyes and aura etc, (+ black military uniform that "outlines his perfect figure", with "tight muscles" and "smooth lines full of strength"). This is described over and over again.

Then there's how some lines appear again and again throughout the novel ("knife in heaven, knife in hell", something about immortals not breaking an inch of jade, "be not afraid of large cracks but rather small fissures", etc.), along with some descriptions the author notes they got from Baidu, and maybe they wanted that part to be realistic, but the wording is almost always the exact same, with maybe one or two differences here and there.

And for some reason, the jade MC cuts keeps getting paired with descriptions of women??? Like it's shy or graceful like a lady with a veil or whatever. Once was okay, but it started to get a bit cringe after a while.

Next up - ML fell for MC so fast. It didn't make sense. MC was poor, malnourished, so his face was sickly thin and yellow, and he was wearing the same old clothes he'd had on in the apocalypse. Yet ML had seen him through a security camera two times, both of which shouldn't have amounted to even ten minutes in total, and somehow fell for him? Enough to pay for MC's treatment, give him his limited edition car, and give him access to not only his apartment, but the place where his company stores their most important, unsorted products??? Wut???

And yet

I still liked it.

I'm a sucker for transmigration novels, especially Interstellar ones orz <<less

The novel was pretty good and easy to mtl (if you don't care that much about jade python belts and roses and whatever was going on with how stones are gambled on). I wish there was more romance between the MC and the ML but the little glimpses that we got of how ML thought about and loved MC were super cute~ This novel is NOT for people who don't like Gary Stues... the MC is gray stue p e r s o n I f I e d. There's... more>> literally one point fairly early on where he got a really good stone from a gamble and the novel says something along the lines of how it's kinda a double-edged sword since he got a lot more popularity (and $$$) from finding the really good stone but now his fans are gonna keep expecting better and better results.......... which he then proceeds to keep getting. He's pretty much full G.S. in terms of stone gambling, pulling/creating energy from the jade stones, and mecha fighting (online) so there's really no escape from him being OP.

My only gripe about the novel is that the author builds up the pace and tension pretty early on by showing off the MC's OP-ness... and doesn't really slow down. The MC is always either finding a new rare stone, purifying crazy-op energy sources or wowing everyone in the online mecha fights (granted, a smaller portion for that last bit). No joke, if he's not doing one of those things, he's doing one of the other two (but with a small sprinkling of ML interactions thrown in). I had to take several breaks and find something at a slower pace to read in-between all the OMG! Gu Yun did this! He did that! OMG Alpha! OMG who is this master energy dude??? that was going on... but if you can handle it, the novel will be pretty good.

Ah, side note about the 'villains' and cannon fodder:

Spoiler

yeah...I appreciate seeing cannon fodder be less s*upid and learn from their mistakes but seeing almost every single one go 'ah, I shouldn't have looked down on [MC]... now he'll always be this irreplaceable god-like figure in my heart' gets a bit tiring and exaggerated

It reads like the author got bored of their own story faster than anyone else.

It's not necessarily a bad novel?

It's just very... scattered.

... more>> Sure, it starts off with MC getting into stone gambling, growing knowledge and power and wealth, amassing fame and faceslapping others.

And then the author got over it and suddenly MC is all about refining energy from the stone gambling. Which is acceptable, because there's at least some level of continuity there.

And then the author got over that too. Suddenly MC is on the path of being a mecha battling genius?

Pacing starts getting very rocky, relationships with ML and his friends become nonexistent, every side character becomes the exact same underdog who only becomes good due to being affiliated with MC. Or they oppose MC and is revealed to be evil evil people because MC is Righteousness itself.

It started off quite promising for a lighthearted read. But even Gary Stu novels need to have some direction, don't be so light that it floats off to nowhere.

TL;DR. This was a decent read to pass time up until the author got bored of the story. Then I got bored of the author's attitude. <<less

Really liked the whole stone gambling part of this story. It is much like The First Interstellar Energy Gambler.

I liked MC's character. He is very OP, but not overbearing or arrogant. ML played a minor role. He is super rich and powerful, but not the aggressive type. He is very respectful and realizes that MC is actually more powerful than him. The story doesn't focus on the romance. I didn't mind. I'm used that in these type of interstellar stories it is all about the thrill of MC being OP... more>> from start and amazing everyone.

What I didn't like is that next to stone gambling and energy liquid extraction (I can still see some relation here) the MC is also an excellent mecha driver. It just becomes too much. Less is more in these type of OP, smooth sailing, formulaic interstellar stories. 1 OP ability is already life changing enough. What I also really disliked is the Extras where they
Spoiler

were transported back to the Apocalypse Earth from which MC came during their honeymoon. They changed the world there and the cosmic rain or meteor shower or whatever transmigrated them back to the interstellar world. The ending is that they discovered that their trip to the Apocalypse changed everything. Earth still exist and they are highly civilized interstellar society that wants to establish diplomatic relations with the Empire in which MC/ML live.

I really don't like it if things get so far fetched in the end. Truly, less is more and keep things simple is sometimes the best. <<less

The wold building is meticulous and detailed, which is something I greatly appreciate. The MC is powerful and doesnt need constant protection. I love how he resolved the first mu*der attempt on his own, showing us that his background setting is not just for show...

However, I find the ML a bit flat... he developed feelings too fast and for no discernible reason... and that was before he discovered all the good points of the MC... it felt forced. Also I dont get why he has been given an army... more>> chief setting when he is clearly running around being a businessman... since when is being an army leader a part time job? His soldier aura also comes and goes... its just there to highlight how handsome he looks in an army uniform (btw which soldier does their morning workout in full uniform?) It felt like he fell into doting, helplessly pampering wife chasing mode too abruptly... even the job offer felt weird... he only saw that this newcomer is pretty lucky and hired him for a big job without even going through the wait and watch phase? So I find the ML's initial attraction to forced, as if his future feelings have been downloaded into the past self who hasn't experienced the events which led to the development of those feelings. I could have accepted it if it was love at first sight, but it clearly wasn't. At first sight, ML was willing to let this young stranger suffer and learn a harsh life lesson... then a few days later at their first face to face meeting he did an abrupt 180... made no sense. In fact, based on his cold, watchful attitude when he first saw MC, its actually ooc for him to act like he has a crush on third sight- based on his character, he should have kept a watchful eye, discovered the talents of the MC at a fast plus realistic pace and then offered the job. Why did the ice in his heart melt so randomly and suddenly? He clearly doesnt belong to the warm and righteous category of MLs... on that note, his cold capitalist aura greatly clashes with his righteous soldier mentality. Juxtaposing these two drastically different characters was a bad idea. So ML watches on coldly when he first sees MC, who is about to encounter something bad. The second encounter is also across a screen where he just observes and somehow at the third encounter when they are face to face, he saves MC, sends him to the hospital and pays the bills, hires him for a position he is (currently) completely unqualified for and sets him up to live in his house soon afterwards. A cliche soldier and capitalist usually have two completely different mindsets and the author is doing a pretty bad job of blending them. ML doesnt feel like a proper character as much as an android from the doting husband series that the author set up for taking care of the MC. Seriously, they should have picked one- head of a conglomerate or army leader; cramming both identities in one person was a bad idea.

Another flaw of this novel is the excessively detailed descriptions of the stones... sorry but I really dont want to read paragraphs full of technical/fictional information related to stone gambling...a few sentences would have sufficed...

Otherwise the remaining worldbuilding is excellent... the author has tried very hard to visualise the nitty-gritties of life in this futuristic setting dominated by energy stones... they have a great eye for detail... I especially love the concept of gambling percentage and the wisdom of the MC who carefully balances out good jades, waste stones etc in his selections to avoid suspicion instead of perfunctorily adding one or two waste stones to his selection of good stones... He is taking active precautions to develop step by step instead of flashily buying all the good jades he comes across. Overall this is a good read.

My favourite character is actually the potential fiance of the ML (their families are pushing for the engagement). An ambitious woman with morals, self respect and courage, she strives to be the best version of herself instead of chasing after a disinterested man. Her ideal self is a strong and independent woman, not the wife of a powerful man and I really appreciate her; she's a breath of fresh air among scheming female side characters we typically see in this kind of scenario. Her goal is to take over her family. She actually shows more interest in the MC than the ML which is hilarious, as is the time when she asks the ML to help her run away from her family when they are pushing her to marry him. She is so badass that I can't help but love her. <<less

Ignore the low ratings if you are looking for a novel with overpowered MC and ml.

The novel was kind of Gary stu, but it has a reason for that.

Gambling;

Spoiler

it is mentioned that MC woke a power while in the apocalypse before he died, it was used to detect things like nucleus and jades which he used to avoid zombies within 20 meters, unfortunately he was tricked and abandoned by his teammates into his death.

Mecha and weapons;

Spoiler

he did came from the apocalypse, meaning he's already used to cruel things such as killing, And his sensitivity also increased because of this. He have a strong willpower since he woke up an ability while in the earth (the apocalypse)

Energy;

Spoiler

as I mentioned, his strong willpower was used to collect the energy from all of the jade he won (gambling)

MC is strong, he usually doesn't care for anyone but if he did, he cares for them alot even if it means his life

Spoiler

after finding out that his friend was kidnapped and was almost used as an experiment, while saving him, he found out that the yuan family was using an serum to make zombies, after finding out about it, he destroyed the lab and reported it with ml.

There are no third person in their relationship
Spoiler

there are one, but he didn't show it and he didn't confessed.

Wish I could give this another 5 star for the extra.

Spoiler

on the first chapter, it is explained that MC woke up in the world where ML lives and with his ability, he earned money eventually catching ml's attention, (ML falls for him at first sight). MC died at age 18 after he was abandoned by his teammates and got bitten by the zombie. At the extra, after MC and ML for married, they left for vacation through the wormhole, ML woke up and found himself in MC's world (earth). After looking for MC, he found out that this was MC's past (16 years old) (they got together in this world too btw) he decided to help MC and change his past, eventually creating the serum to end the apocalypse after MC got his memories from the future (after they got married 18-20 years old), naming it both of their initials. After changing MC's past and going back, they got an notification saying that earth would like to work with them (ml's world) with the name of Gu YuanChao (ML) and Bai Jing (MC)

[collapse]

I have to say, this novel is my cup of tea. I actually read this two times before leaving a review. Btw about their relationship
Spoiler

ML rarely appears at chapter 1-40 but it doesn't matter since he fell in-love with MC at first sight and only had to pursue him when he appeared after 40 chapters. Their relationship developed fast after ML taking care of MC. MC developed trust for ML and eventually responding to ml's hint. Although their relationship isn't full of dog food, it was still pretty sweet. Just as Adelina92 mentioned, there's no papapa (there are, but it was a face slapping sound after MC got everything right about the jade he chose), they kiss alot though (chapters; after reading twice, I remembered SOME of the chapters; (43, 53, 57, 59, 61, 63, 70).

wahhhh the extra part is my favorite!! I also read the novel because of the apocalypse tag, even though there were a few chapters that I was a little bored reading, there were some chapters that I skipped, who would have thought that I would be able to finish this novel, luckily I read it all the way to the end. The part I like the most is in the main chapter, where Bai Jing saves An Ge to fight zombies and aliens using mecha. I prefer the action scenes... more>> compared to the life of slice even though there is a little bit of fantasy, there are still many stories about his life becoming a master level.

if the extra chapter is longer it must be best. I like apocalypse novels. Sometimes I wish the extra chapter was included in the main chapter, who would have thought that the apocalypse tags were in the extra chapter. Whatever is best.

for MC, there's nothing I hate, I love everything about MC and I even fell in love with him. I hope ML is not mad at me. <<less

This is a great story with great potential, but what made me a little mad is that ... more>>
Spoiler

even though there are extras, the author put a character who escaped from the laboratory and made him obsess over the MC. Even though he's just loyal to MC and did not really think or do anything extreme, I'm still mad because I didn't get his pov in the extras and the author just wrote a character in love/obsessed with MC in the last chapters of the novel. What is his purpose for being? Bruh.

Anyway, this was a great read, and I have to say that I really liked the plot.

Another thing is that MTL/raw is easy to understand. Not too much slang, except many Chinese meanings become weird in English. For example, in the raw: yellow chicken jade. Wt-f <<less

it’s a little too much? It’s a good read to pass time but being a gambler, an energy master and now a mecha fighter and they all don’t feel connected is a little distracting. I’d probably read again when it’s finish just to have closure but it’s not a priority.

It's not the first time I've read about a protagonist transmigrating from the apocalypse to the the interstellar age but it was a first for me that the MC turned to a career of stone gambling instead of internet cooking celebrity. MC, of course, was op in all that he does and let his skills face slapped everyone who had gone against him. ML was also an op protagonists who supposedly fell for MC at first glimpse. The novel was a typical Gary Sue story and the extra was nothing... more>> new. However I did like that MC did not hem and haw when it came to falling in love. High end of 3 stars and would recommend as a relaxer read after reading more stimulating novels. <<less

If you didn't mind OP MC and ML, then it's fine to read this.

I don't have any particular preference in reading novels since I only read a lot of their works. The actual reason I don't mind the OPness is that the novel happened in apocalyptic world and interstellar. It was full of fighting and smart people.

Though I don't understand some because I MTL'd it. It's been a while since I do so.

I enjoyed it. Thanks for translating.

Love it. I'm really a sucker for smart MCs. At first I thought how did they make this story 100 chapters long when it's just all about stone gambling? I was thinking that this story is going to be monotonous. But boy I was wrong. The highlight of this novel is the journey of MC from rags to riches. And although he has perception ability... At first it is only limited to 10 stones.... So he has to learn everything from scratch. Moreover, MC became OP step by step through... more>> learning. And that's what I love about it.

ML is so adorable... Sadly there's no papapa... Sigh... <<less

Story has many unbelievable elements. As in the idea that people in the future somehow no longer knows how to cook because somehow it's much harder to throw things together in a pan vs making mechas and spaceships (and that chefs in the Interstellar Age cooks worse than a regular Joe's home cooking from the 21st century). Or that mining/technology isn't good enough to automatically solve jade containing stones. Or that gambling is popularized to become the greatest thing ever.

Descriptions are also very repetitive. I think it's better for writers... more>> to mention someone's beauty in passing instead of pushing it in your face every single time. ML is very thirsty (probably a virg*n) and he seems to have nothing to do the whole day as the major general of the Empire. MC is just OP everywhere and he just keeps getting more OP. No tension, no suspension, whatsoever. Money comes so easy to the MC. There's no meaning to him getting more OP and making more money. <<less

For the main story, I guess it's 4.5 rounding up to 5 while the extras are a solid 5. If the author made a spin off of the extra and, like, made it a real book, I'll definitely read it.

For the main story, it's 4.5 because I can't really say the MC was the most upright character and the author was mostly trying to justify him. It's because...

When fighting with others, yes it was a face-slapping to the people who looked down on him, but it was in the premise that he was using his ability. I just think it was a little unfair to the stone gamblers who really worked hard and have the ability of that era be looked down upon when the MC has a golden finger. For example, when he was fighting or gambling against those have a higher level than him. They end up embarrassed and bashed because they were not as good as someone who was actually a level lower than them. Though it highlights how good the MC is, but it was because he has a cheat. Later on, he used more of his knowledge and just use his cheat to make sure the stone has a jadeite inside, but it would have been better if the author made him face against those the same level, made him climb up the top without having to use a person who was designed as a complete idiotic cannon fodder who's only role was to be face-slapped and lose their reputation.

But I love the MC. I also like it that the author made him aware that he has a cheat like when he was against the strongest stone gambler before he emerged. He mentioned that if ever he doesn't have that cheat, he might not even be a match to Master Gu. And also the fact that he used the status he got to help those in the slum. He also wasn't the revengeful character. When someone looked down on him or insulted him, it was enough for him to show his ability and everything is good. He wasn't petty and care for the people around him a lot.

I think his real natural ability relies on mecha piloting although it came out of nowhere. I love the way he worked hard and went to a competition, climbing to the top, fighting against different opponents and learning new things/moves along the way, but still wasn't a match to a person who worked hard since he were a toddler (ML). It would be too unreasonable to defeat a person who has experience since they were a child by a person who doesn't even have a foundation in the first half of the story or doesn't even know a mecha.

[collapse]

For the extra, I really love it. Like the two of them being part of the team, going through missions to clean up and such. It's really enjoyable. <<less

I had to pin this because it was getting a little boring.

Overall, the story is midly good. Not great, since the MC isn't particularly unique or memorable. Like others have said, very Gary Stuish, but not in an annoying way. The story was tagged correctly because MC is OP. Right now, he wants to fight mechas so that is what he is doing. This is why I put the story on hold until more chapters are up so I can skip forward. I wanted to read about a MC that... more>> gambles stone, as per the title of the book, not read about that very same MC fighting in virtual mecha battles.

The ML also is in the middle ground. Not too overbearing but still very typical ML with the money and power and giving everything to MC. The story is just starting so I don't know how the relationship between these two will unfold but I'm hopeful it'll be good.

I'll update the review once I read more chapters. <<less

MC is very OP and learns things incredibly quickly.

I recommend that you read the non-ML translation first (currently about 30 chapters) before reading the ML since some of the terms used in the ML are weird.

What can I say? This novel... it's not bad! I ended up dropping it because it got a bit repetitive. I think it would have been fine if I was reading the full translation, but the further you go, the more confusing and senseless the descriptions of the stone gambling becomes when read in MTL XD. This story mainly focuses on that aspect, but it explores quite a few facets of it. The MC (Bai Jing) came from an apocalyptic world and due to his special ability, he was able... more>> to make a name for himself in this world where jadeites are a necessity of life. Not just in gambling, but also in converting energy and such. He's definitely your 'Gary Stu' kind with lots of abilities and very little shortcomings. The ML is also your typical toolman. Both of these are not necessarily bad, but it does mean that the character development is a bit meh. Just okay?

If you like poor-to-rich development, then you should like this novel just about as much as I did! I really did enjoy those aspects, and the way the stone gambling interacted with the sci-fi environment was also interesting. I wasn't all that into the mecha parts. They kinda felt forced in, and there was no real purpose for them. So I skipped most of those parts and can't comment much on it LOL

All in all, an okay read. Not too bad. I won't be giving it a rating because the MTL was not the best in quality and I'm not sure if my impression of the novel was critically impacted because of it. But, at the moment, I can say that, based on this very biased experience, it would have probably been about 3 stars. The lower end. Not surpassing 3.3. <<less

I didn't think much when I first found this but I didn't expect this to be SO GOOD! Like, this is so MY THING.

Yes, it's a common interstellar-transmigrated-OP MC story but I still enjoyed it so much. The story isn't much, MC is OP since the beginning and of course the ML is also equally OP. There wasn't any unnecessary dog blood drama, not even a villain love rival (wow imagine?). I was quite surprised by many side characters who actually have braincells??? Great growth mindset and good character development???... more>> It's so rare. Even the ML's family are reasonable people too. The "big" villains were also solved with no brainer.

What I love the most about this novel is the relationship between MC and ML. God, I love ML so f*cking much. He's a typical cold bigshot character but he's not super yandere, not unnecessarily cruel and ruthless to others, also very very very respectful of MC's privacy and boundaries. He's so sweet and understanding. Honestly the only good men are fictionals. TT_TT

The MC is good too. He survived apocalypse era since probably 15 years old so he has high mentality, but he's not insensitive when people try to offer him kindness and sincerely help him. He's also not dense!!! (I love this)

Overall it's a pretty good read if you don't mind lighthearted no brainer story with no drama or misunderstanding whatsoever. I mtl-ed the rest and it's pretty easy to understand.

Spoiler

The only boring part is probably too much jade opening when MC gambles... I know it's literally the title but it gets boring pretty fast tbh.

A perfect 100 chapters...

I’m not surprised at the low rating, as this book is kinda cheap—it’s basically an unbelievably perfect Mary Sue story in which nothing goes wrong. That said, I like Mary Sue, and I love the stone gambling aspect, so that’s cool with me. Very few typos in the Chinese version too, just a few repeated characters. If I had a quibble with anything, it would be that the energy stones are basically a complete copy of Earth jadeite, down to several aspects, such as color, cracking... more>> and so on, making much more sense in how they affect value in terms of aesthetics, rather than this mysterious energy. I did learn a lot about jadeite, though, which was nice, as it’s always been a subject I was interested in. The second quibble was the mecha chapters, which were a complete drag to get through, as much as the entire book must have been for anyone not interested in jade. But all in all, it was a pleasant journey, and I actually liked reading it—perhaps, in addiction to subject matter and the relative low level of difficulty, because my Chinese improved? Took me about the same amount of time, but felt much faster...

If you like jade, consider it—it’s like a pleasant beginner’s textbook. If not, DNR. <<less
