Xie Yao is a game anchor who quickly rose to fame on Shark TV. He is skilled and witty, often coming up with clever remarks on the fly, such as “Real men don’t play support”, “If the child doesn’t learn, it’s the father’s fault. If you guys are bad, it’s my fault”, and “Did you raise a dog? Go ask your dog at the door how to play this game.”

During one of his live streams, Xie Yao got into a heated argument with his viewers and was constantly criticized. Just as he was about to give up, a wealthy benefactor suddenly appeared in his chat room. The benefactor sent a message with a flashy spaceship effect that said, “Want to add me on WeChat?”

Xie Yao replied, “Which serious anchor adds WeChat to viewers?”

But without a second thought, the benefactor sent five more spaceships.

Xie Yao said, “Okay, okay, thank you so much. I’ve sent you my WeChat ID in a private message. Please feel free to visit again next time.”

However, when Xie Yao added the benefactor on WeChat, he found out that the benefactor was actually the captain of the prestigious team SUS, Jiang Song, a god-like man.

So Xie Yao and the god-like man played together during a live stream.

Jiang Song said, “You pick Yao, and I’ll go with Fei.”

Xie Yao, who never played support, was surprised and said, “Okay, bro.”

Several months later, Jiang Song was invited to attend a competition as a special guest, while Xie Yao was invited as the new king of the platform. During the exhibition match, Xie Yao impressed the audience with his skills.

Afterwards, a reporter asked Jiang Song, “What was your first impression of the new king of the platform during the exhibition match?”

Jiang Song answered very seriously, “He’s very soft.”

Light hearted esports webnovel without being actually esports since ML is retired and MC is a streamer. A bit of identity shenanigans going on to spice things up. But overall, as of chapter 37, it's just remained rather sweet and sugary, with not much drama. Don't go in expecting something groundbreaking that'll stick with you forever but if what you want is just a short and fluffy read, this would fit the bill.

Translation wise, it's edited mtl but reads easy and updates everyday. There aren't many translation notes so you'd... more>> have to go in knowing general game terminology as none of that will get explained. A couple chapters also had weird portions where paragraphs would get repeated in pure unedited mtl garbage but as long as you're able to find your spot again, it's not a big deal <<less

Oh my heart. I love esports novels, especially ones like this that don't heavily go into complicated esports ideas. This was a good balance of esports, streaming, romance and slice of life.

Xie Yao is one of the most adorable MC's I've ever read about. He's prickly on the outside but a softie on the inside. He's been through so much in life, I just want to give him the biggest hug😭

Then there's our ML, Jiang Song... what a man. I fell in love with him, the way he doted on... more>> Xie Yao, the way he loved Xie Yao and protected him... gahhh so cute!!!

my fav line from the novel: "I am someone who craves freedom, but after meeting you, I have decided to give all my freedom to you" - Xie Yao.

it is important to note that our Xie Yao has experienced the worst parts of life at such a young age. When that happens, you naturally crave freedom and control of your life, living in fear of letting anyone into your circle. Yet, Jiang Song was so patient, so good, so doting to him, it made Xie Yao even more willing to give up that freedom to Jiang Song. What a truly touching love confession.

I also love Mother Jiang and Father Jiang, the way they treated Xie Yao was so sweet. Cheers to a happily ever after for our XieJiang couple 🥂

ps. I just wish there were more extras : (( <<less

Sorry to say that I couldn't read this novel due to the translation quality. I was forced to almost immediately drop this because the translation was too annoying, to the point that I couldn't stand seeing all the huge errors. I don't think this is a normal edited MTL level of quality, but actually much worse. The translation was done so poorly that I had difficulty with understanding both the dialogue and plot, including blatant errors in gendered pronouns (which happens with MTL but normally an editor can easily fix... more>> this because it's so obvious that the character it refers to is actually male and not female). I think that the person translating this has a low level of English comprehension and also couldn't be arsed to put some effort into paying attention to details like pronouns (which doesn't require almost any knowledge of English grammar). If so, it would be better to translate it with MTL into their native language because then at least they could have the capacity to edit it into some legible form. As it is, they just butchered the novel and it's quite unfortunate. If I have the chance, I might just use the DeepL translation extension tool on Chrome browser (it's also available as an app) to MTL the raw version for myself, since DeepL is better at translating foreign languages (especially Korean but also Chinese and Japanese) into English than Google Translate. <<less

I generally love e-sports novels but I decided to drop this for two reasons.

  1. The translation quality is low. This is clearly an edited MTL translation. Which, on its own, is totally fine. In fact, I hope more translators will use MTL as a base because it speeds up the translation process. However, if you use MTL, you have to actually make the changes where the MTL has clearly messed up. The incorrect pronouns, the inconsistent translation of names, and the lack of effort in explaining phrases that sound odd once translated makes this unreadable to me.
  2. This novel seems to be heavily focused on actual King of Glory gameplay, at least as of c7. I read e-sports novels for the cute fan interactions and fun gamer dynamics - not for actual gameplay. If you read it for actual gameplay, maybe this is for you. But it's not for me. It's especially unreadable for me since the translator makes no effort to explain the gameplay so for people like me who don't play King of Glory, I'm constantly confused.

A light and easy read without any major setbacks or ups and downs. A doting older ML, a self-reliant MC with some autistic traits, and a happy ending. Very sweet.

It was a cute story but lacking a little in character development. I liked that it was not the typical genius player beats all odds and wins the day, but it feels like the potential of the characters wasn't fully realized. I would have enjoyed more about the characters and what they are going through. The translation was quite choppy so some things were confusing. Overall a feel good story.

It was average so I gave it a 3. It’s cute, but it’s not that deep. There are a lot of questions that I hoped were answered.

Translation is probably edited MTL. There are parts that get repeated so it gets confusing. The character names from the game are also confusing. But still thanks to the translator for giving us the chance to read this. I appreciate their effort!

I give 3.5 stars because the story is light, the characters are easy to like even though the ending is flat and predictable.

- 70% games + streaming

- 30% romance
