Sickly, gorgeous jewelry and fragrance maker MC transmigrates into a world with Game of Thrones-style sadistic nobles. Brash but chivalrous duke's son ML is the only one who shares MC's values. ML is an infamous playboy, and MC was mu*dered by an obsessed stalker and believes that love only means destruction. But there's a ton of adorable flirting with oblivious but silver-tongued MC and semi-tsundere ML.
_
MC is described as a captivating flower that withers even as it blooms, and that's a good description of the world as... more>> well, which is full of jewels, silk, and decadence, cruelty and beauty side by side. The European ambience and 18th-century fashions are a nice change of pace from the usual danmei. It's also nice to see multiple female characters with their own motivations and psychology.
_
The story focuses mainly on the flirting between MC and ML and their developing romance, with some layers of psychological depth. It reminded me of a honey caramel wrapped in dark chocolate. The intro and ending are the thin layers of chocolate, the romance is the big gooey caramel inside. Regarding the external plots (MC's negotiations and ML's family issues) :
Spoiler

Both external plots are wrapped up quickly (esp for ML, his family issues are resolved by chapter 9) and without much fuss (MC's trade agreements are all negotiated offscreen). More time gets spent on side characters who provoke development in MC and ML's relationship.

[collapse]
A lot of authors would have drawn things out for dozens of chapters, and I would have eagerly read them. But clearly that's not what the author wanted to do with this story. It wraps up a bit quickly, but for me it worked. Here's hoping for some extras! <<less

The world logic is so bad it makes my laugh. Its so blatantly black and whiteing the story. And the MC miraculously becomes dumb in situations to be a damsel in distress despite being so smart in other situations. im actively trying to ignore that bc I love sickly handsome MC shous

translation quality is really good I give that 5/5

  1. First of all, before anything else, I'd love to point out that yes, I am aware of this novel's flaws, but I still gave it 5 stars. This novel might be one of my favorites, one of my top 5 even--which is not difficult, because I'm prone to dropping things that disinterest me, and I'm prone to finishing "okay" novels and never leave a rating and a review.
  2. Kudos to the translator, who did a very awesome job.
  3. This had a lot of fluff, which is perfect for me. I love me some fluff, and I would prefer s*upid, mind-rotting fluff over painful angst and intricate plot any time. (However, I am not saying this didn't have plot, and I'm not saying this is a brainrot story. I'm just comparing what I like and don't like.) There was angst near the end, but It was only a couple of chapters, so I wasn't subject to long suffering and I am okay with that.
  4. I do not agree that there was a time where Jian Qiao became s*upid for the plot. The whole time, he maintained his intelligence, he never fell for anyone's schemes, he was quick to see other people's intentions. He was never s*upid in any given situation, so people who said that, if you would kindly point out to me which part exactly was he acting s*upid, then I'll admit I am wrong. In fact, I think Jian Qiao's intelligence is too OP. The main CP is too OP but I absolutely love CPs who are OP in a romance-focused novel, so I absolutely had no problems with it.
  5. I would like to respectfully disagree with another reviewer called Pezwitch who said, and I quote, "[Jian Qiao] started out strong and intelligent and became weaker and weaker as the story progressed." When exactly was it described that he was physically strong?? Never, just that it wasn't explicitly said that he was physically weak in the beginning, and instead of straight up telling us "this guy gets easily sick", the story just showed us that as things progressed. Since the beginning, he'd been attended to by his manservants because his constitution was weak. As for mental strength, he has traumas. Of course he's kinda mentally weak (as in, he can't persevere with negative thoughts, he gives in easily to his fears, he gets shaken easily. Mentally weak does not mean s*upid). For the intelligence thing, read #4 again.
  6. This is full of mushy, sappy shit. If you hate that, then you will not like this story. BUT I absolutely dig that mushy, sappy shit, so I absolutely like this story.
  7. Nobles in this novel are cruel in the most blatant way possible, s*aves are treated inhumanely, and if you can't bear with it, then maybe skip this novel. This is the medieval period, whose people have different morals. If you can, bear with it. It did hurt to read, but in the end, I can't cancel a book for displaying medieval, archaic values fit for its time. Even Jian Qiao is aware of this. And he knew that decades worth of tradition cannot be undone with a single word from a single person, so he bit his tongue and let things happen. Honestly, it hurt to read that, too, but I think that's the truth of the situation if any single one of us were to get thrown into medieval times.
//might edit if I think of more things.

First of all, the summary and moreover the title are misleading.

When I read the title and the summary, I thought it would be the common face-slapping theme. Scum-gong falls for MC, MC face-slaps scum-gong and finds himself an adorable little gong who loves him. You're thinking the same? Heh. Then don't read it.

I kind of want to say this novel has similarities to "Spring Trees and Sunset Clouds", since I can really detect them. Both MC's received a severe trauma, only to meet a ML who helps them healing. The... more>> difference is, STSC is really a fluffy novel where we can slowly watch the relationship between MC and ML unfold with only a little angst at the ending, which is resolved pretty fast.

Whereas here.. How to say it? MC's trauma is too severe, he nearly drowned with his mother at the age of 5, was despised by his family, killed by a madwoman who stalked him "out of love" and transmigrated into the decadent european world as an Earl.

The summary is misleading because ML isn't that nice as he sounds in the summary. At least for me. I didn't like him from the start and I neither like him after finishing this novel.

I guess it was the author's intention to "rush" them into "friendship" and they were indeed quite cute during that time. Especially since the difference between the "born in decadence" ML and the "born in a modern world ruled by laws" MC was beautifully shown. But in the end it was just simply too rushed, making the reasoning of "ML protected MC, so MC felt grateful and liked ML (as a friend) " kind of unbelievable to me.

At the end of the novel, that is during the last 5 chapters, ML and MC were forced into a "dog-blood drama" (sry, this is the only description that comes to mind currently) out of love and it was resolved too easily.

Why so? Because MC has multiple trauma.
Spoiler

Drowning (fear of water), insomnia, fear of blood and most of all, fear of love, since all he learned was that love equals destruction. While the initial development slowly healed MC's broken soul and he regained trust thanks to ML, it was forcefully broken down by ML confessing "out of the blue" and kissing MC (from MC's pov), scaring him to no end. Then ML went to war and upon returning MC has a complete change of mind.

[collapse]

I understand the "love overcomes everything" trait, but the way it was implemented in this novel leaves me with a bad aftertaste. But once again, this is only my personal opinion.

All in all, to me this novel has a dark theme and an even darker aftertaste. If I were to compare it with STSC, this one would only get 2.5 stars. Though I want to give only 2 stars, taking into account the perfect translation and the hard work put into this novel by the translator and the author, I'll round it up to 3 stars.

Final conclusion: For the current me, this novel is not suitable. I have read it to the end, but right now I certainly won't read it a second time. <<less

Being a huge author's fan makes me frustrated this time.

I don't mind the novel being fluffy and Mary Sueish, but I do mind an abrupt ending. It was like the author decided to drop it halfway.

Has no over thoughts, the plot was finished before you even have time to enjoy it.

Somehow IQ and EQ of both MC and ML are on the same level as of a 3 yo whenever they face one another.

The author's trying to sell it as sweet and charming, but I'm not buying it.

Trying to finish this novel is a struggle...

One star is for translation, it was good. This is purely my personal opinion. Ignore my bad English.

World setting of this novel is too black and white. MC is like a lost child in a jungle of cruel animals. Whatever the era the author mentioned, is a kingdom full of 2D and even 1D villains. I don't think it actually relates to the real history. In reality, no matter the period and place, their is nothing like only black and white. Grey also exists. And not to mention only MC... more>> being a conscious and conscientious human in the whole novel (of course ML due to MC's "influence").

Title is misleading. It's main plot is a romantic lovestory of childish (only to MC) yet cold and indifferent (to everyone else) ML X fragile and beautiful MC overflowing with fluff.

Everything else was bland. Almost every character was bland and cliché, petty scheming villains troop. MC was described as strong and 3D and ML was forced to change into a 3D character. But for me, neither MC had depth nor ML. For every chapter, MC became a literal sick beauty who can only breath in ML's presence and who can only rely on ML for everything. This no-one-else-but-you type of love is not my cup of tea. I am not into ML too. Infact, I didn't feel for any of the characters (except for emphathizing with MC's fears). Writing style was dramatic/over dramatic and boring. There is nothing to say about side characters and side plots.

Coming to romance, it was romantic in a way, for those who care more about pure fluff. MC's sugary words were sugary enough to bring Diabetes. Ending was too abrupt or to say it was full of plotholes and MC's love and confession felt like out of the blue. Because MC seemed to clearly regard ML as his benefactor and best friend.
Spoiler

When ML confesses, MC gets shocked and frightened. Later, when ML goes to battlefield on the behalf of MC, MC's struggle for accepting the truth, realization of his love for ML were not explained at all. It was just as MC gets bedridden, struggles to live because he already realized his feelings hence getting a reason to live and then ML returns from the battlefield. Then ML and MC confess to each other and "happy ending".

[collapse]

I didn't get clear details thus not satisfied. It's still a fun read if you throw away your logic, reasoning and interpretation. Even then, there is one thing I can't stand. MC had fear of blood, water, death. He also had fear of love but I think it is rather a combination of hostility and fear which can be counted as phobia. These are rather deep and profound since they were carried from past life. MC also possessed insomnia and regular nightmares. He remembers his death experiences of being stabbed and almost losing his soul by drowning. After MC meets and becomes friends with ML, his nightmares and insomnia start to reduce. When he sees ML ""risking his life"" for his sake on the battlefield, MC's fear of death vanishes. When he imagines ML's blood covered wounded body (it is due to ML challenging 16 people at a time for MC's sake), his fear of blood vanishes. And let's not talk about how ridiculous it seemed to me if a person like MC who has fear of love (near to phobia/simply phobia) FELL IN "LOVE" WITHOUT EVEN REALIZING until the end of the novel.

These fears are the causes of MC's past life traumas. As a phobic person, I can understand MC's terror towards these things. I didn't understand if the author implied to show these fears as phobias or something else. Even so, could an intense fear that continued to torture since past life be cured so easily with a few shreds of love? I don't think so. MC's fear symptoms are so close to phobia. I personally count it it as phobia.

This is simply ridiculous!! And traumatizing (for me). Phobias need professional help and even with it, it can relapse. And there is no precise treatment methods to many phobias. The way the author handled this stuff is simply so f*cking triggering, I would like to slap the author across their face. PLEASE DO SOME REASEARCH BEFORE WRITING ABOUT SENSITIVE STUFF!! The author also seemed to focus on solely romance, MC and ML especially towards ending. I am done with this novel. MC had multiple phobias+ trauma+insomnia+weak constitution but he was healed with "love". His phobias and all the diseases have vanished! Since I am triggered very much, I cannot just ignore this as "fantasy". Treat this as a disclaimer (if you are similar to me of course). <<less

Really cute fluffy read

MC and ML love each other so so intensely. And this makes even more sense given their surroundings - they are the only two decent people in a sea of scum bags. It's one of those situations where you feel you have found a kindred spirit you never want to let go of.

The novel was one of those which is short but intensely sweet. A slight downside to this was the slightly rushed feel to the ending but this didn't detract from the overall experience at... more>> all. Most of the novel was taken up by MC and ML being absolutely smitten with each other and I'm not mad about that at all.

If you love emotional support in a relationship, tons of sweet talk and finally a love so strong it's overwhelming, this novel is for you. Perfect for when u just wanna sit down and read two people being s*upidly in love with each other <<less

3.75/5⭐

You could replace MC with a young lady who grew up solely within the confines of her boudoir in a time with dominant patriarchal ideologies and NOTHING would change! Yes I do understand that he's traumatized, depressed and in desperate need of therapy but I really hated it when he who was introduced as a gritty, independent and intelligent survivor quickly devolved into a weak dependant pretty-face whose existence and survival strongly depended on the ML. I was bewildered when I realised the fact that I cheered more for the... more>> courtesan side character who was introduced as a deplorable money hungry attention-seeker that thrived by leeching off her pursuers to set off the MC's brave and kind heart. Tho MC said a few sentences that triggered the change in her, I beleive that it's because of her own strength that she managed to gain an understanding of what she really wanted, finally let loose and lived freely. Cause anyone and everyone receives advices but only very few could actually accept it, understand it and change themselves. In that sense this story is unique cause this is the first time that I loved two female side characters more than the main cast in a BL story (with ML's sister being my other fav character). Well I do enjoy reading of MCs with sickness/disabilities but only when they possess the courage, wit and wisdom to hold their own grounds (like Cui Buqu/ Fu Shen). Cause the stories of those who struggle and thrive with the poor hand that fate dealt them is quite inspirational to read.
The mediaeval-ish premise and the nobles' sense of entitlement and blatant disregard for the lives of those below them was very realistically sketched out. I loved the romance and its build-up. The desperate longing, fear of separation and the unquestionable feeling of belonging they feel with eachother was so heartwarming to read. It was a passionate and obsessive yet pure love built upon mutual trust, friendship and respect. The writing too makes up for the flaws. It was reminiscent of printed novels in both style and quality and was quite delightful to read. The translator has done a really great job too! All in all it's a decent read. Do give it a try~ <<less

Before I say anything, please know that while my rating is a 4, it's really a 3 star. That one star is for me, because MC is both a jeweler and a perfume-maker; both of which I love and collect lol. That said it's not a terrible story; the setting is quite original and while MC's accidental pickup lines get kinda cheesy, he's so honest and forthright that it's not hard to see why everyone get charmed by him even just a little. The best part about this story is... more>> honestly the atmosphere, which is nicely done in my opinion. As for MC and ML, they're kinda meh. MC's the delicate type whose very good at accidental seduction while ML's the typical macho playboy-esque type. MC constantly needs ML's protection, ML is happy to give, they're not bad but nothing to write home about either.

While the atmosphere is quite nice and the setting is quite original, the story has such over-the-top black and white morality that the disparity is almost hilarious. For example the prince is known for having drug and gang r*pe parties, there's a law that allows nobles to kill a s*ave just so they can warm their feet in their entrails, etc. While I don't mind MC and ML either, both of their characterization is also very shallow and pretty much just surface-level type stuff; in fact I'd argue almost every character in this story has shallow characterization or super fast development after one paragraph.

In the end I think rather than taking it seriously it's best to read this casually with your brain turned off. There's no need to judge about morals, it's very much "MC (and through MC's influence, ML) good, everyone else bad". It feels like this story is kinda unpolished and just written for fun; like the author just wanted to play in a fantasy Victorian/medieval mishmash setting. Because of that, even though it might feel cliche or shallow it was still a fun read for me, but if you're looking for something more detailed or eloquent I think you might want to skip on this one. <<less

The translator did an exquisite job with the translation, as the words invokes jeweled imagery that I'd have associated with fantasy manga/novels.

The MC though fragile, seems shrewd and has good judgment of complex situations so far, even though he suffers from past mental shadows.

The MC is very experienced -- no virg*nal romance interest here, his very presence reads visceral, brutal, and cunning. So far, the chemistry between the two is very explosive, and I look forward to reading more for sure!

I'm not sure the title of this fits much, it I certainly loved this novel. it was very lovely.

There's not much to say about it to be honest. It's short and well written so reading it doesn't take much to do. if you're bored and in need of a good read filled with sugar, this is it.

Although I will just say the ending was so abrupt. I honestly felt like the author could have done a full novel and it wouldnt have gotten boring. Especially going a bit into... more>> his childhood and how he designs jewelry. Maybe a bit more of the cp once they get together too, and how they manage in that era.

But, anyway, I loved it all the same. the whole time I was shouting "that's so gay."

This story is the epitome of "I'm so in love with you... no homo tho." like, the amount of times they inadvertently flirted and made googgly eyes at one another without even realizing they were in love was appalling.

5/5. Happy Pride <<less

Pairing Type: silver tongues MC; beautiful MC; jeweler MC; shou MC; knight ML; puppy ML; gong ML; doting ML; rich, powerful ML (but NOT stoic)

Tropes: transmigration; western medieval; royalty and court politics; enemies to friends to lovers

... more>> Triggers: death; su*cide; attempted r*pe;

Heat level: low, they are intimate but not explicit

Re-readability: low; probably won’t reread

I can’t believe this was written by the writer of FOD for numerous reason. For starters, I am completely convinced this must be one of the authors more recent works because it is better written.

Characters aren’t too Mary Sue and actually have flaws that create real stakes in the storyline. Women are written beyond one dimensional stereotypes. R*pe isn’t treated flippantly. All of the complaints I had from FOD were not present in this novel. This is not me hating on FOD, it’s a fun story, I’m just saying it was flawed.

I’m also not saying this is perfect, there honestly wasn’t much of a plot per se.

Regardless though, it was a lovely story with likeable characters. Would recommend for a quick read. <<less

5 freaking ⭐️ For the dog food AND NOTHING ELSE °₊·ˈ∗♡ (˃̶᷇ ‧̫ ˂̶᷆) ♡∗ˈ‧₊°

The Main CP’s words of love even before they went into a relationship, literally made me melt in a room with the AC in full blast and I don’t regret it.

I actually don’t mind the so called “regression” of the MC’s personality trait bcz I saw it coming from a mile away that he would’ve broken down at some point but I must say it’s doesn’t and shouldn’t be something to insult him.
Spoiler

So what if after he fought to live, he ran to the ONLY thing made him feel like he was a needed existence, to where gives him warmth after going through so much sh*t in past life?!?!?!?! THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT AT ALL!!! He’s still a damn good, talented ruler and I refuse anyone who says otherwise. Especially at the incident where he couldn’t save the dwarf/little person; it was incredibly vexing and sad but him trying to save her would make things worse AND get himself killed... unless he was brainless with a golden plated plot armor. 🙄 And yes it took the ML to do it for him bcz he has power in status AND strength I’m just honestly glad he wasn’t the cold on the surface or the border line psycho tyrant type or there wouldn’t a need for that scenario to happen. This story isn’t really about the MC struggling to the top on his own with all his got; he has a country behind him and he was already successful he only wanted to make those successes to stay that way and flourish.

The MC is beautiful and smart, but traumatized by a tragic experience in his childhood. He is a successful jewelry designer, but is killed by a crazy woman and transmigrates into a world, where status and power means everything. He becomes a count of a poor city and earns money by doing business with jewelry and parfume. He travels to the richest city to expand his business and meets the ML, whose family owns the city. The ML is an arrogant playboy, but he is smart, strong and more humane... more>> than other nobles. He saves the MC on many occasions, so the MC becomes very attached to him. The story is fine, but the MC says whatever comes to mind and it often comes off as cheesy. Example: "I don't need to see the ocean, I can just look at you. Despite the fluffy and hilarious summary, the story itself had surprisingly dark depths and vivid descriptions of certain cruelty and lack of human rights in medieval times, usually glossed over by similar stories.

The MC, who transmigrated there from the modern times, had to strongly struggle with his own morals and the completely skewed morals of the people from those times.

Overall the story had a very fluffy and sweet romance, but the backdrop of semi-realistic historical anecdotes created a very stunning image that really set the novel apart from just "mindless... more>> fluff" (though it had quite a big portion of that) !

The translation was truly excellent, one of the best I've read. Flowed incredibly well and the words and meanings from the author were chosen with care. <<less

Finally, I have found another real romance!

Don't get me wrong. As a former lover of romantic novels, I've read tons of sugary words of love. Despite this, it's very rare to encounter a romance here in NU wherein the characters are truly in love. Pardon me for saying that the title and the description does not give justice on how good this bl is. I like how they show the process of falling in love, the chemistry, flaws, and abscence of black hearted, possesive, and obsessive male leads—called mania. I... more>> also felt a sense of satisfactory to the other side characters. Showing that humans are gray in nature. The fragments of impurity in their hearts does not define who they are. No one is perfect and not just because one showed their malice does not mean they are purely evil. That's why I like how it was depicted here. Also! Kudos for the translation and the choice of words.

The only thing that gave me a lingering regret is the shortage of chapters. I feel like eating a delicious cuisine then the waiter suddenly snatched the food from me in the middle of my meal. That's exactly how I felt. Even right now I feel bitter while typing these words.

Anyway this is underrated. I mean seriously! This is a sign for you to binge read this. <<less

THIS IS FAR BEYOND MY Expectations. After 2 days of scouring through completed BLs this has been one of the fulfilling ones.

The summary is shit, perhaps it deterred a lot of readers from reading this masterpiece! Well... it's actually not the best BUT HERE'S THE THING:

1. It's my first time reading a story where the MC and ML exchange so much sweetness that the story actually highlights what dog blood and spreading meng is.

3. The angst in this story is so good. It was just enough for the story to give it the spice and to make the love between MO and MC sweet. Surprisingly, the aristocracy in here was portrayed quite closely to how it really is in history.
