Eight hundred years ago, Xie Lian was the Crown Prince of the Xian Le kingdom. He was loved by his citizens and was considered the darling of the world. He ascended to the Heavens at a young age; however, due to unfortunate circumstances, was quickly banished back to the mortal realm. Years later, he ascends again–only to be banished again a few minutes after his ascension.

Now, eight hundred years later, Xie Lian ascends to the Heavens for the third time as the laughing stock among all three realms. On his first task as a god thrice ascended, he meets a mysterious ghost who rules over the ghosts and terrifies the Heavens, yet, unbeknownst to Xie Lian, this ghost king has been paying attention to him for a very, very long time.

I love this story, I really do. I haven't read a sweet love story in a long time, usually it is something along the lines of Mo Dao Zu Shi where the love story is a slow burner and ends with graphic hard core s*x, so to read a book by the same author that is not only sweet but only implies that s*x has happened was a novelty for me. It wasn't a bad thing, but considering XL's whole cultivation required him to have a pure body, it would... more>> have been nice to see if he did have any of those internal struggles during his first time.

The plot had many twists and turns, a lot of which I never saw coming which I liked. I found the comedy was good too, I saw other reviews saying it didn't hit the mark but I found it really quite funny. Clearly this is a matter of personal taste. I do agree with other reviews that the misery and suffering was excessive, and it would have been nice to see more extra chapters, but I am thankful for what we got, at least there were some!

All in all, I really did enjoy it, to the point where I haven't put it down from the moment I started to the moment it ended, and I really do feel quite exhausted. The last few chapters mu*dered me emotionally, so now I need to go recover! <<less

I wish there were more extras. It was fantastic although I did not fully understand the antagonists reasoning for many things he did. Kind of seemed like he (the antagonist) could have killed them all at any time and be done with it and we were just given some very flimsy reasons for why he didn’t and dragged it out? I don’t know 🤷‍♀️.

4.5 stars though

MC and ML are my babies!!! Both are lovable in their own ways. They have some uncanny similarities while also being different to the extreme. Both are precious!!! Their fate is intertwined and it stands the test of time.

This story speaks about the importance of kindness. Even one that's bestowed carelessly might change someone's whole life.

Read this and worship our dianxia with me!

I usually don't rate or review or say anything about the things I read... I mostly focus on sopporting the autors by buying and reading their works and occasionally sending them a msg about how I enjoyed their works... So... This is a first for me... Personally I don't have the slightest idea why I'm doing this I just feel the need to say this one thing in denfence of this book... I'm... Having so much fun with this book... Is funny, lovely and devastating at the same time... And... more>> I just like it... I didn't choose it because people said something about it... I read things purely on findings on the internet and I found this author and just read her books on pure intrest for their story and fell in love with all her charas and I don't have a way to say that to her... As she doesn't have social media... Or maybe she has and I don't have the plataform or something... Hope she gets to see this or maybe she won't see it... I just wanted to say she is incredible and I can't wait to read her next work as this is the last of her works... Hope she writes another one soon... I'll read it for sure! 😊

It would be good if people pick up books not cause somebody said is good and their just following the opinions of others... At the end we are all individuals and we're not always gonna like what the other likes... Most of my friends are fan of Game Of Thrones and they are always pushing me to see it and I just tell them: "it doesn't intrest me... If I see it with this feelings just because you told me to... I'm not gonna enjoy it and only gonna say bad things of it in the end and I don't want to say bad things of the things you like... That doesn't feel nice..." And they just drope it 😅 so... Pick a book up because you are just purely interested in that book... You will surely enjoy it a lot 😊 and if you didn't like it even though you choose it... It's ok to drop it... I don't pull myself trough somethig I don't like just for the supose "responsability" of "I started it, I have to finish it!" No... That is just painful and not fair for the ones who actually liked it... Just saying...

Thank you for reading 👋🏼 <<less

Amazing. That's all I can say about this novel. Love between these two men really was able to restore the faith in love. There is an amazing plot but put that aside author's unique way of expressing the unconditional love between them really hit me hard.

Honestly this novel was like the longest novel, and it was very hard to finish I don't remember struggling to finish any novel this much, and sometimes I got bored and want to abandon it, but I finished it, and I am happy that I did because in the end I ended up loving it a lot. I am honestly not a deep person and I don't really have anything bad to say about the novel I really like everything about it so even though I struggled to finished it... more>> still deserved a five because I really loved and enjoyed reading it. <<less

This is a story that should have been fifty chapters, stretched across several hundred. The main couple is legitimately charming. I think they are my favorite BL couple I've ever read, because they actually spend a fairly significant amount of time together, and have meaningful conversations and interactions with each other and other characters. Tropey miscommunication is fairly light as well compared to other novels I've read in this genre, and the world building and side cast are also both pretty interesting too.

However, there are several parts where this novel... more>> gets pretty boring. Every arc is usually involves the main character investigating various supernatural disturbances like a ghost that's stealing brides, or a spirit that's targeting pregnant women. Even though I wanted to get invested in each case, usually I just found them kind of boring, and ended up skimming quite a bit. The novel shines when the main couple is on stage, but falls pretty flat the rest of the time. I think it would benefit from an abridged version.

That said, if you like these kinds of stories, it's pretty decent and worth a read, as long as you're okay with the time commitment. <<less

Does not matter what others might give, this is a GREAT read for me... Though I have to say in the middle I was a bit confused due to my own slowness.

Thank you translator for doing such a good job....

All I can say for TGCF is that if you're a fan of MXTX works: Do give this a go! It reminds me of a good mixture of both MDZS and SVSS with cultivation, demons, angst with a slight pinch of humour scattered into this melting pot of a novel.

But do take note it does start of somewhat slow (And I was confused about what was going on at first), but when the plot and stuff starts kicking in, you'll get entranced by the plot and characters.

It's a beautiful work,... more>> and I understand where the praises are coming from -- I really geuninely loved all the characters (Maybe not really love when it comes to one specific somewhat sexist character) and their developments overall but honestly speaking, there is still room for improvements as by end...

Spoiler

I felt that they really swept the Shi brothers and He Xuan arc/incident under the rug somewhat -- Like I mean I'm glad we at least knew what happened to Shi Qingxuan (SQX) in the end but really though it was like near the end of the novel but like I'm wondering how he simply gets over his brother's death and He Xuan rather abruptly when he wakes and finds himself in the Imperial city?? Is it just me?

[collapse]

Spoiler

Another instance where this I feel like character development wise felt dropped was Feng Xin -- Like he keeps wanting to take care of Jian Lian and Cuo Cuo and keeps begging for them to stay but after they run off by the end he just accepts it and doesn't do anything to try and find them and stuff!?! I was really flabberghasted by this...

[collapse]

So character development-wise, not perfect but its somewhat decent in my opinion but does need some more work overall...

Another issue I'll bring up will be surprise, surprise: The plot.

I said that you'll get entranced by the plot, which is true as I really loved how everything was built up, especially on the connections between Xie Lian (XL) 's actions and Xian Le.

But... The plot felt kinda prolonged and dragged out somewhat by the end...

Spoiler

I understand that MXTX's stories are extremely lengthy but by the end if TGCF during the Jun Wu reveal it kinda really got draggy and it was kinda hard to push pass it especially the part where the gods were just being locked down at home (Funny how it kinda is irl too but anyways) and nothing is really like creating any tension since when it does escalate its to the side characters and not really to the leads (XL does get somewhat affected but he just gets over it so it feels kinda like "???" What does it even do apart from just not needing to wrote the character's name down anymore??) : Although I did like that at the end when HC dissipates.

[collapse]

Despite all of the flaws mentioned, I genuinely loved it by the end and I'm so glad I gave it a go that's why I gave it a 4/5, so, really, just read it: Even though there are many reviews like mine and the others that do have criticisms about it! You won't regret it! 😊😊 <<less

What else can I contribute that haven't been written here already? Lol

I'm still reading the other MXT novels so I don't have much to compare between all 3 but right now I can confidently say that I thoroughly enjoyed the slow burn of this novel.

I was so emotionally exhausted at the near end and the established scenes were a balm to the ache in my heart that I went through with both XL and HC.

I admit, it really hit my craving for obsessive/possessive/doting love interests.

Okay so I read that novel a while ago and I'm honestly shocked to find out that I didn't write a review for it yet when this is one of my favorite novels of all time every genre confounded.

Since everything is not fresh in my mind, I won't be writing a super developed comment and just go straight to the point: you are in for an amazing journey.

The story is well balanced between the plot and the romance and I was hooked the whole time. Some people have complaints about... more>> the great number of characters in the story but I think it is part of what makes it this amazing. Every character has a role to play in the story and none are here just as decoys. They are all well developed and interesting characters. We see them grow along side the story and through their interactions with Xie Lian. Moreover, the focus is rarely drifted away from Xie Lian so we don't have annoying flashbacks about characters we don't know in the middle of the story like it can be done in other novels. If there are any, it's later when we already got attached to them. Speaking of Xie Lian, he must be one of my favorite protagonists ever. He is a complex character and you can see the author took time to develop his psychology. He is funny, kind, a badass in his own way and has a lot of character development (though not in a linear way). Following the story from the point of view of such a great character made it even better.

Even if everything isn't fresh in my mind, I still remember that I couldn't find any flaws about the story, if it is that I would have liked more character development for the ML. We don't know much about how was his reign as the ghost king between the time when he lost track of Xie Lian and when he found him again (and we're talking about hundreds of years here).

Well I said I wouldn't make a big review but I ended up saying quite a bit in the end but that just shows how much I love this book. <<less

I love this novel a lot, it’s my favorite or MXTX’s novels and I think it deserves more love! It’s a really good novel (really fluffy and angsts at the same time!). Just give it a try if your unsure weather or not to read it- I think it’s worth it

the romance I think is very cute! Also some people have called the relationship to be creepy/ stalking but I completely disagree with that. Here’s why:

Spoiler

First of all, Hua Chang never really lies or deceives Xie Lian (well he does once but I didn’t mind considering the circumstances and it’s bunch later in the book) and stalking would imply watching from the shadows which Hua Chang never does he usually approaches Xie Lian confidently. Also! Xie Lian did tell him something like ‘if you have nothing to live then live for me’ so I don’t think Hua Chang started following him for no reason and I think Xie Lian doesn’t mid at all. Also later it’s revealed that his stong emotional tie to Xie Lian is the only reason he’s been able to survive as long as he did since he’s a ghost- so he kinda needs that super strong emotion tie to Xie Lian

[collapse]

I love Xie Lian as a protagonist, he’s super likable and cute, he’s also smart and practical and knows his own limits- he knows when to ask for help which is refreshing.

the only problem I have which this novel is the same problem I had with Mao Dao Zu Shi- which is the lack of care for her main side characters. I got supper attached to a number of side characters and they were not treated well... it made me feel really sad

Spoiler

rip lord wind master (not actually dead btw). The way his character was dealt with reminded me a lot of Jiang Chang)

Heaven's Official Blessing, also known as TGCF, is often the second novel most people read after MDZS. It was mine. I knew it would be more plot and character-heavy than MDZS from what I had heard about it before, but quite frankly, nothing compared to how it actually was.

This novel has a happy ending for the main characters... and basically no one else. Be prepared to cry a lot, feel really depressed after finishing it, and pretend that half of the endings didn't happen (unless you like sad endings). Honestly,... more>> even though I loved the writing, characters, and ship (s) in this novel, the fact it was so sad sometimes made me reconsider finishing it at times. I'm not sure I could ever read it again.

The MC and ML are the best by far out of MXTX's works. They have excellent chemistry, interesting backstories, and they bring life to the world around them, rather than it seeming like the entire world was created for them like so many other novels.

The side characters are also the best, in that they have interesting personalities and backstories. However, as I said, most of them do not have happy endings. One of my biggest complaints about MXTX's works is the unnecessarily depressing fates she gives many of the side characters, for... drama? Angst? The issue is, many of these endings aren't even open-ended or hopeful. They're just sad. As a reader, I don't see how this is satisfying at all. Maybe the tragic elements of this novel weren't for me, but I felt legitimately awful after reading every arc.

More spoilers about a particular nitpick I have regarding the side characters of this novel:

Spoiler

The ending of Shi Qingxuan and He Xuan was just s*upidly depressing. MXTX herself shows that He Xuan still cares for Shi Qingxuan, so why is their story left off with 'they never talk again and Shi Qingxuan dies unhappily'? It is such an absolute waste of their characters and by far the best arc of any MXTX novel. There is no way I can be convinced that, for the entire time Shi Qingxuan lives, He Xuan never once approaches him and neither of them try and find closure. The Shi Qingxuan-He Xuan-Shi Wudu storyline serves some of the most realistic reactions from the characters that I've read in a novel (they get angry, upset, cry, scream at the times one would expect them to) until... the very end. For an arc entirely about parallels, it really left a bad taste in my mouth that the moral of the story was essentially that nothing never changes. This is the primary thing stopping me from rereading this novel because the way this ending is handled pisses me off so much.

[collapse]

This novel takes its sweet time in explaining, well, everything. The MC and ML simultaneously have no tension and also insane tension because they're together and yet they take so long to actually get together. I didn't mind this, because I liked their interactions and I enjoyed reading about the other things happening in the world in the interim. But I would not recommend this novel to people who aren't prepared to sit down for a very significant amount of IRL time for little bits of relationship development at a time.

Overall, while I take major issue with the treatment of a lot of side characters, I still enjoyed the primary relationship and the worldbuilding enough to give it a 5/5, which is more than I gave MDZS. Before you invest yourself in this novel, I highly recommend reading a lot of reviews to see what people think and whether it will be the right fit for you. <<less
