I can’t believe here I am, reading a xiaxia type korean novel that somehow is better than 90% other chinese xiaxia that just copy and paste from each other. Although there are imperfections and the pacing is slow, it is more creative and unique than many other xianxia lately.

Novels are made with different intentions, different focuses and the appeal it has will be different to the indivdual. I only say this as it feels that most reviews (regardless of the novel) forget this simple point.

This novel is not for people who want instant gratification or face slapping. It also doesn't focus on power tripping. The story is slow and methodical.

What it focuses is the journey and build-up of emotions of the characters involved. This journey is often painful, melancholy and dark.

It is not always depressing as it is... more>> cycles of pain, happiness and resolution. The chapter, 129, made me write this review as it is a gem that I believe is a must read if what I described speaks to you. If that's not what you want, then there are other excellent series to read. <<less

Great story so far. It's similar to another of my favorite korean novel Reincarnated Swordmaster except the MC is a lot smarter and there are cultivators. Hope it is not dropped like many Regression novel on scribble hub.

Overrated tr*sh. The power system reminds me of a marvel movie.

Why? Because it's incredibly inconsistent/soft. It violates it's own rules every 5 chapters which just makes me think the author is pulling a nasu and just really likes breaking/bending his own setting for added "badassery." and ass pulls. This certainly explains how the MC is capable of achieving his feats with his somewhat mediocre cultivation.

This is not a good cultivation novel. It's a Kdrama with a cultivation setting in the background, you can see it whenever a loop happens and... more>> ends.

Introduction of random character>There comes some sort of circumstance to build familiarity, typically sad>some fighting or blablablabla (death of a character usually) happens>arc ends on a emotional note>loop begins.

This sh*t is repetitive slop, and it's really really boring. But the fans eat all of it up anyway because of "character development." (I can't see it since he stays a generic good guy through all the novel) and every single arc ending on a somewhat "high emotional" note so it gets a pass for having a climax.

In the end of a arc, what a low bar.

Ig if you really like this novel then you gotta enjoy ever repeating scenarios where it constantly violates it's own setting and storyline. I pity the pure love fans because not even the heroines were spared from the overarching rules of the tr*sh storytelling lol. <<less

I read this right after Longevity Simulation and oh boy was it a downgrade! While both novels focus on cultivation with regression, Longevity simulation is more about coldly analyzing all the information gained with each regression to gain benefits, while this novel is more about creating connections. This novel is all about not forgetting the loss of comrades from each regression, cherishing each connection formed despite time unraveling, and having an unyielding spirit against all odds as they are always stacked against you. Seo, the MC desperately tries to prevent... more>> disaster happening to his coworkers. This is a good theme and all, but the problem is that the writing sucks.

First off: the cultivation. Holy shit. This surely isn't the first xianxia novel I ever read. Why the hell are you introducing imaginary cultivation concepts that copy off of every other cultivation novel? Is it fun to read walls of text about qi building stage and the concepts revolving around ascending each stage? It's like I'm reading a wiki article. And of course, it's all imaginary BS. The author is just trying to increase word count per chapter. Cultivation concepts get repeated OVER and OVER again. It's regurgitated information. Hell no I don't care about star constellation and energy, and I sure as hell don't need all 28 constellations listed out by name only for it to never actually matter. The thing is that most of these cultivation concepts don't matter. And when they do matter, like Qi, intent, yin and yang, it's poorly explained. Everything is overly explained, but not concisely nor clearly. Information regarding intent, each martial stage, and cultivation concepts are always repeated, but not in a great way. The problem is that some of this information carries the novel.

This carries out to the fights. The fights in this novel are a joke. They're so poorly depicted. It's just psuedo cultivator or martial intent concepts that carry the fight. There's no real battles that are detailed at all. It's just Seo throwing out his martial intent and killing them, or dodging based on "intent." The swordsmanship depicted in this novel just repetitively repeats the same few stances, and all the fights just become the main character throwing out a few of his stances and killing the enemy. There's no actual detail of the fight other than the stances used and the intent used. It's crazy.

Finally, and the reason I dropped this novel is the post core formation stage. All the sudden, Seo is transported to a higher realm and he becomes crazy OP. He effortlessly increases his cultivation prowess and crosses major realms as flavor text. He's able to battle two major realms above his actual cultivation rank and the novel barely explains why. It's just more pseudo cultivator concepts and apparently Seo is so talented and smart that they culminate to him being able to steamroll anybody.

The reason these regression novels are fun is because it's an untalented person trying to become stronger with each regression. Seo, I sh*t you not just goes from core formation to Nascent Soul off screen. Really? I cannot stand this novel. <<less

Amazing.

This is undoubtedly one of the best korean novels out there.

Each Regression is meaningful, each life changes our protagonist and he's always walking onwards on his lonesome road.

It's funny, it's sometimes sad, even tear-jerking, but it's good-quality always. You won't regret it, there's as of now a few bad reviews, but they likely didn't read very far, I guess they didn't get far enough to realize what kind of novel this is going to be. This isn't an OP story where the protagonist just punches the young masters and gets... more>> the pretty women. This is for one a korean story, a combination of Murim and the standard chinese cultivation world, and for two it's actually serious, as in no harem and the protagonist has to work hard to get stronger and beat his fate of being a talentless nobody. Small spoiler how he'll be able to beat stuff:

Despite having absolutely no talent in most things he is a genius in one thing. Hard work, and I guess also having lots of experience.

Regression might be a cheat, but even so it requires a ton of effort to get anywhere, especially with his lack of talent. That might be frustrating in the start, but it pays off.

It gets philosophical for sure, and the martial arts and cultivation itself get explored quite a bit, but even then, though it's a bit much reading each move in some of the more action-heavy chapters, I could easily look beyond that. My opinion's biased, because I simply liked it that much. <<less

Summary: one of the best novel ive recently read, thats why im writing this review.

It has been awhile since im writing reviews, kind of disapointed due to 2 cents army ruining reviews and misleading.

Its a breath of fresh air to read this novel. Unlike other novels where the failures and npcs just dont elicit emotions, this novel has plenty of emotional moments.

The story progress in a unique way, thats all I can say without spoiling. Overall, you should read this novel. I highly recommend it.

Basically what the original novel aka the story of Yoo Joonghyuk in Omniscient Reader viewpoint would look like.

It didn't lie when it said that it was a tale of a regressor cultivator. It's a gritty story where every regression matter, MC live his lives genuinely. He didn't exploit his regression as a tool or cheat code but only as an extra life. Valuing each connection and relationship he formed.

MC remains untalented in this series, always getting overtaken by his genius bro. But slowly build up his strength as he... more>> regress more. And unlike MC from Worthless Regression that keeps getting plot armor and treasures along with his hardwork to compensate for his abysmal talent, the MC here literally only train hard till he bleeds and pass out to get stronger even just slightly. Even I feel bad and feel its unfair how little he improve from all the training he does but that's the reality of being untalented.

All in all, a solid story of a regressor that you couldn't help but support. <<less

Because Kim Young should have been the MC.

The MC is just a leech, absorbing strength and info from friends/allies from the past in every return.

In my opinion, I thought this novel was about beating those arrogant cultivators and showing them that justice and that martial arts are better, but I was wrong.

The novel is really about becoming a god like person, i.e both a full-fledged cultivator (yes one of those a**holes looks down on people) and a martial artist, its boring. The MC doesn't care about martial arts or cultivation, he's just literally doing it because he keeps coming back to the past.

and for some reason, there's someone in the 200000 years ago I think who really wants him to do it too, why, I have no idea lol.

The novel is random AF. I think this novel is about becoming a god, and that's it. Lol, I don't know, even the fox is more interesting than the MC.

9/10 (I don’t put 10 because I haven’t finished yet, but it’s good, like really good, I have cried 4 times already by this beautiful story)

TLTR:

such a unique and beautiful idea, greatly executed, nice story and character, it most great drawback it’s the fact that it can use many Chinese concepts, but my god, from relationships to the philosophy, this is probably one of the best I have read, RECOMENDED HIGLY, JUST READ IT

Edit (chapter 84) : The translated chapter count has doubled in just under 2 weeks and I'm back here to say thanks again to the translator and the donators, the daily chapters are what I look forward to most in my day now, especially the current arc. Wholeheartedly recommend giving this novel a try, this has quickly become one of my all-time favorites.

Original (chapter 42) : The title caught my eye as I was checking the weekly top ranking on Novel Updates since I'm a sucker for Regression, but I... more>> was hesitant to try it since I'm a bit sick of Korean Cultivation novels (Murim). That being said, I gave it a try and was glad to find that it is actually a Korean take on standard Chinese Cultivation. By chapter 9 I recommended this to my brother and as of chapter 42 I'm recommending it to anyone interested in a talentless but hardworking Regressor and his martial arts genius Sworn Brother developing new realms for mortal martial arts to overturn the heartless Cultivator's control over the mortal realm. It's a surprisingly heartfelt and human story, a tale of struggle and despair, and of triumph and growth.

The translation quality has been great, especially with the very impressive 2 chapter a day release rate. The chapters aren't short either, and seem to get even longer as it goes. So thank you to the translator, this is the story I'm most interested in at the moment! <<less

It's not bad, but to be honest, it's kind of boring, everyone has heaven defying talents and the MC with his regression ability now which thigh to hug, and fast-forward, voila, the MC succeeded in life. And hating his regression ability so soon after his second regression for s*upid reasons really left a bad taste in my mouth, like at the end of your life, even if you were successful, isn't it everyone's dream to live longer, get healthier, or ultimately go back in time, but he's acting like he... more>> have reincarnated like a million time and experienced everything there's to experience in life, not even close in a cultivation world. <<less

f*ckin amazing.

You can call the first 50-75 chapters boring, and I totally agree with you. Its written to give you and the main protag a sense of despair, knowing that nothing will change.
However, the following arc (the one I'm currently on) is just filled with emotion and satisfaction, seeing all the prior efforts made blooming into a beautiful pair of trees,

"a quince tree, and a white magnolia glower"

Honestly, it felt like this is the true end to the first arc of storyline. This could have been a standalone novel, for how much I had emphasized with the MC, worried for him, cried for him, and cheered for him.

10/10. Fantastic.

An interesting and pretty damn good novel so far, I'd say. It's a Xianxia story written by a Korean author, and to be honest, I prefer it. Instead of the usual cardboard cutout perfect and arrogant MC you see in most of the genre, here we have an MC with emotions, somebody who hesitates to take his first human life because, well, he's never done anything like that before, although that doesn't mean he won't do so if forced. And despite the whining of some people who say it's bad... more>> writing that the MC doesn't make every perfect decision, the MC here is capable of actually making mistakes—a novel concept, I know, right?

The general story is about the MC and 6 of his co-workers being transported to the cultivation world, only for 5 of them to be kidnapped by cultivators after they were found to have mythical talents, and the remaining one setting out on his own arduous journey after discovering he has talent in martial arts. The MC, however, finds he has none; in fact, his talent is in the negative. The story begins with the MC dying of old age after his first life and figuring out he has the ability to regress, and you join him as he gains more wisdom and martial arts/cultivation experience with each regression, along with lots of lifelong trauma. The story also has an overarching background mystery about why the original 7 transmigrators, including the MC, were even brought to this world/ universe in the first place, which includes some underlying cosmic horror elements that are interesting. The author is also a machine who cranks out a chapter daily, barely ever missing a day, sometimes even releasing multiple. On top of that, the chapters tend to be on the longer side; the author started in 2023, and at the time of writing this review, there are 378 raws out, so yeah, that could be a plus or a minus depending on if he burns out or not, but at least you can't deny his passion for this story.

Anyways, if any of the above sounds interesting to you, definitely check it out, but let's be honest, unless you're new to the genre, you'll read any scraps of even a slightly interesting web-novel to sate your hunger, so get to it. <<less

The MC is not OP, and if he gets stronger he just gets crushed under another giant hill.

While this cycle can become annoying, the way to story is written manages it quite well, evoking many emotions.

I'm a sucker for time-loop stories and ARTOC checks all the boxes.

The old saying goes: the Japanese are obsessed with Isekai, the Koreans with regression and the Chinese with martial arts.

This novel has all three and it's amazing. Some have compared it to RI and LOTM in quality, which need no introduction for season readers, but I think it's more similar to SSS-class su*cide Hunter and Re:Zero, story-wise.

  • Great Premise and exciting subplots
  • Great Worldbuilding
  • Faithful cultivation system (s) that are well-thought-out
  • Good characters
  • Good MC (not a mu*derhobo) who grows throughout the story
  • Cool philosophy bits and emotional moments
It's good, so good it's addictive.

The setting and worldbuilding are interesting; I particularly enjoyed the mashup of wuxia and xianxia in the mortal world. The characters are quite 'background-ish' at the start, but gradually gain depth as the story unfolds through the various loops. The other colleague in the martial world is an amazing character, too, and has one of the best arcs in the book.

Indeed, the strength of this book is its characters and the connections the MC makes during his loops. There is the acknowledgment on his part that when he dies, all the good, bad and unique moments he had will disappear too. The person he meets once may not be the same the next time, effectively making each regression meaningful.

Even so, there are a few flaws which I have to point out, though I hope they won't be big enough to discourage someone from at least trying this novel, since it's worth more than 95% of currently translated novels and a good, well-written eastern fantasy novel doesn't come easily. Again, this is just my opinion and I encourage people to read at least the first arc.

Flaws:

  • The author tends to be very melodramatic sometimes. This is worsened by the fact that he uses the MC's suffering as a plot device (which is fair, Re:Zero does too, as most time-loop stories do to some extent), but things never go well for the MC and it can get a bit overwhelming when there's never a moment of respite.
  • The first regression after he ascends to the Upper Realm is incredibly weak storytelling. It's really boring The author shot himself with the pacing. And the reward for all that was nonexistent. There is no excuse. But if you can stomach that arc, it'll gradually get better. As of the latest translated arc, I can say it's back on track.
  • Some people have mentioned how bad the info-dumps are when the author explains cultivation, and to some extent I agree, but I also appreciate how much depth went into the cultivation system and how faithful it was to real taoism instead of Cultivation level 1, 2, 3... As someone who read all the sacred texts of taoism and has an interest in chinese mythology, I can attest he did his research well and that the cultivation is intrinsically philosophical. I just wished he did less 'tell' and more 'show', but I can see his passion.

This novel peaks at around ch 40ish. Everything before that is mostly setups and exposition about the world for later use. Everything after is extremely repetitive. MC approaches next realm, can't get past, gets in a fight, achieves enlightenment at the end, dies. This repeats over and over, with the MC bashing his head against a wall the same way instead of attempting something different. And the enlightenments aren't even that groundbreaking. Just for example, one is, "things in martial arts are related to other things in martial arts"... like... more>> what? I'm going to continue and see if anything changes wish me luck. <<less
