Ruan Xi was reading a novel with a laid-back female protagonist at her own leisure. When she woke up again, she had transmigrated into the book and became the female supporting character with a good life, Ruan Xi, of whom the female protagonist envied.

In the story, the character Ruan Xi was the replacement for the engagement that had fallen through because her transmigrated, legitimate older sister had abandoned her fiancé from a rich family. Later, Ruan Xi was pampered to the heavens by her husband and became the winner in life as an imperially mandated first-rank wife to an official.

Ruan Xi, who had transmigrated over, watched as her transmigrated legitimate older sister prepared for that marriage happily. Similarly, her legitimate mother had also decided on another marriage agreement for her.

Ruan Xi: “……”

Years later, after the sister is suffering from her husband’s family, she came to Ruan Xi to see her struggling with misery. When she stood at the door of Ruan Xi’s house, she watched the cold and violent man in her previous life hold her in the palm of his hand with all kinds of wealth and love.

I swear I've read this before. Maybe the raws? Just enough of it isn't familiar though so I keep second-guessing myself. But I wouldn't be shocked if there was more than one rebirth story where the FL starts a braised duck restaurant lol.

Anyways 3 stars. There's really no conflict so things start to get boring. Too many golden fingers.

sweet and cute story, kind of loving the OG OC being a shipper on deck. All the main characters except for the villain are pretty measured, nothing over the top, damn your whole family line type stuff.

this translation is honestly one of the best i've read. I love the way the translator gives little bits of context that's easy to hide if you already know, and the little footnotes after the paragraphs with the chinese phrases and sayings. SUCH a pleasant read. I think i'll read whatever this translator translates... more>> for sure! <<less

I absolutely loved it! The translation was amazing, and I think the author did well in not dragging it out.

Spoiler

Ruan Ning was exhausting, but I realize that she carried the plot progression. I loved that Mu Qing Ci got a better ending because all she did was eat and mind get business. She didn't deserve to suffer that kind of depression. Ting Zhou and Ruan Xi were adorable from beginning to end.

Spoiler

The side character women were miserable. I wished to see less of them every chapter. Their clumsy scheming combined with Ruan San niang's tireless s*upidity was a lot. And the Fourth Prince was so inconsequential, I kept forgetting he existed 😂

[collapse]

I really love this story. It's my kind of pace, and the main characters aren't s*upid. 🥰 <<less

This novel was pretty interesting and well translated. Many thanks to the translator! I really loved the relationship between the main characters. Especially because their relationship progressed very naturally and was not a case of love at first sight.

The ML managed to secure a place on the list of best fictional husbands, while the MC is pretty unique in her actions of completely conforming to the norms of the era she is currently living, despite being a *transmigrated* person from the modern era (technically), and she is willing to work... more>> hard to improve herself and fit in.

One of the only dissatisfaction I felt was that the MC and ML got married ahead of schedule before the MC was eligible to marry even according to ancient era standards, and that she gave birth soon after, all before she was 18 years old. That might just be my modern sensibilities, but when considering the risks involved with that.... it kinda makes me uncomfortable. At least the age gap between the MC and ML is just 5 years.... besides the early marriage and stuff was mainly because of unavoidable circumstances and it made sense in a way, and considering that our MC was almost 20 before she transmigrated, it's a bit easier to ignore.

Also, Third young lady Ruan (Ruan san xiaojie) has got to be one of the most annoying characters that I have ever encountered. Honestly, I seriously doubt that she was an adult, let alone a teenager before she transmigrated. She is extremely spoiled, s*upid, arrogant, immature, and acts as if everyone should owe her. She's kinda like a notorious village fool, who makes a lot of trouble while completely embarrassing herself and others.

Overall it was an enjoyable read. <<less

This was truly enjoyable to read.
The translator did an amazing job and I loved the preservation of the Chinese ways of addressing family and other things in general.

There were multiple rebirths, transmigrations and the author managed to make it comprehensive and interesting. He also catered to each character so we had life updates on each character and got to see their endings. Truly beautifully put together.

The third young lady of the Earl residence truly showed that no matter how many chances you get to make your life right, if your attitude remains the same you’ll make the same mistakes. She was truly a mess😮‍💨😮‍💨.

this novel is such a breath air. As the tittle suggest it is laid back. But thats the beauty of the novel. ML passed and is now in top 10 of ML that I like. MC is realistic smart and charming. One aspect I admire the most about her is that she knows how to be grateful and act according to the situations. She adapt well and is using her luck as an advantage and not take it for granted.

one character that amazes me is Ruan Ning (the sister who... more>> is on her third life).

Spoiler

i think she is the luckiest person as shes given multiple chances of life, golden finger, and good lineage. However despite that, she is the dumbest transmigator ive ever seen. She instead of being grateful, she becomes audacious. She underestimates everyone just based on her being a transmigator from the future. She is so selfish and dont get me wrong, being selfish s needed for your own happiness, but she is a type of person that will be unhappy if others are happy, will be unhappy if everyone is happy, she just want herself to be happy and if others are happy but not her she will try to destroy that happiness. She really has this gift of making other people frustrated. She is a parasite through and through. If you find someone in real life like this, AVOID her asap.

i think its good that we learn from her and avoid everything that she does haha. We should learn that unlike her, we need to be grateful in life, never underestimates other people, and try to learn from our mistakes. Dont think too highly about ourselves. When I read how she still managed to fumble in her 3rd life I realised that some people should just never be given second chances. And I also wonder, is heaven in love with her or what? Why is such person be given such gifts and chances to reborn multiple times? But I think its quite realistic as in real life, nothing is fair.
[collapse]

anyway its a good read. Reccomended and will reread:) <<less

FL is a steady person and the romance part is not too much nor too little. Lovey-dovey couple in the house!!

It's just the antagonist character's IQ is severely offline and annoy me that they were not off-ed earlier (but of course, their existence keeps the story going).

Fantastic translation, a great male lead, and a cute relationship. The MC sails through all her troubles, mostly unbothered by all the scheming, and ends up with the perfect life. If you want to read about a woman being envied by everyone because of her good relationship, this is for you. Other than that this novel is pretty boring, the antagonist is so s*upid it's uninteresting and I never felt that the stakes were high. It's a solid story but nothing in particular stands out about it. I give it... more>> a 3.8. <<less

One of the favorites. There wasn't that much political drama involved which suits me fine but the female antagonist was very annoying and s*upid that she keeps annoying the FL and disrupting her life.

It was an arranged marriage between the couple but they slowly fell for each other. ML was very loyal and firm that he will only have one wife in his life. The way he supports and protects the FL is so sweet and romantic

As some readers have commented: it is a sweet and light-hearted read. I like it but don’t particularly love it. It’s an easy read. I rather like the focus it has on FL and ML’s romantic progression.

There are some dramatic events regarding the annoying sister who is akin to a c*ckroach but things just go super smoothly for the protags that things seem kinda bland. The antagonists are just too s*upid.

Great translation. The book started out really great. Interesting premise, well written, enjoyable protags. And the book was great up until the point where the MC and ML got married. Then it all went downhill. My feeling is that the author didn't know to create plot content without using the same villain, which to me was such a missed opportunity. The villain just became tedious to read and incredibly hard to believe. The author dropped so many hints about political secrets but then never followed up, but I would have... more>> infinitely rather read about that. <<less

I enjoyed reading the novel, pretty cliche and normal but it was full of fluff. I was really upset and frustrated with the older sister but anyway, that's part of the story. Pretty predictable but quite enjoyable, just let go of high expectations and just enjoy the story. I love the translation, by the way!

The starting pace was nice, I love the idea that we are introduce to THREE transmigrators, quite refreshing. I usually hate stories where they literally took possession of someone else body but

Spoiler

I already read in the review that it's not the case for MC.

[collapse]

It just that as the story build up, the story slowly turns about the greatness of the MC vs. the other women in the world. It push hard the notion that assimilating in the past is the only best answer as to how to survive a transmigration. Where women being vicious in a harem is just a woman being bad without pinning any blame to the man who start the madness by having lots of ladies in one place. Sure this was normal back then, but that doesn't mean it was the right thing.

Spoiler

I'm not saying those vicious ladies were not at fault, I just really hate that they only put to blame on them without punishing the guy for causing that predicament. It's too heavy on the "women should be virtuous" even if husband has lots of concubines. Ironic enough, MC DIDN'T even have to face that fate yet the balls to look down on women who were under such situation.

[collapse]

Despite MC and the supposed female protagonist being from modern world, they have quite a backward thinking to the point of being similar in that time.

Spoiler

there was a point in the story where MC's s*upid transmigrated sister talks about how as women we shouldn't be obligated to help out the clan and MC looked down on her because in that sister's mind, men should do the hard work while women should enjoy the benefits without doing anything. For MC, she believes since the clan raise them they ought to also help them too beside the guys.

Which is quite a backward believe, it should be that BOTH men and women shouldn't be obligated to help their clan just because they were raise as that is something the clan or the people who put them in this real world OUGHT to do.

And I hate that MC really just gloss over how their greedy father treated the daughters as items for marriage, not at all the same treatment as the sons. Even justifying that it all make sense for the clan's name and all the shanigans.

I honestly feel disappointed that despite being modern people, they not tackle about the injustice in the harem for the ladies but even support that kind of environment.

Then there's the segment of MC low key looking down on transmigrator doing business in the ancient times because "there was no need" to increase the money and then later on literally doing it and basking on the glory of doing such...

[collapse]

Finally, regarding the "s*upid transmigrated sister"

Spoiler

If they're going to make a story where everything except the character is normal, then don't blame me for thinking that the sister has a mental disorder.

Hands down that sister was dumb and did foolish things that would later just bite on her. It's because of this that I couldn't help but feel like this person might have ADHD or something similar which explains her social inadequacy and her having lots of random but specific knowledge about stuff.

And so as I read her getting used by others for her knowledge and having a sad ending, I couldn't help but think how this story is bullying someone mentally incapacitated and just feels disgusted seeing MC digging her grave. Even the people in modern world doesn't see any problem with her beyond that "she's s*upid".

[collapse]

Long story short, story wise it would have been good if only the moral lessons they shove were not backward ideology. <<less

the female lead is 15-16 years old when she marries the male lead and it grossed me out. Most of these kinds of stories will have a younger FL and I can understand that, but I don't think there needed to be s*x scenes between the leads. And whenever I would forget how young she was they would keep bringing it up.

Other than that the story was enjoyable, with twists and turns aplenty. Also liked the emperor wasn't just pushed to the side, he had a reason to be included in the story. Also... love a smart emperor.

I'm not a native English, so, sorry for any fault that I could do.

I love this novel. The couple sweet but it felt natural. The transmigrated sister was hilarious, but quite pitiful. The MC was pleasant and not to OP. No drama between the couple, which is perfect for me.

Average at best. The MC being a transmigrator is insignificant to the story. She acts and thinks like an ancient person would. Aside from her thoughts being more detailed because of her knowledge about the novel, her transmigration has no impact to the story.

The real protagonist is probably Ruan Ning, the third daughter. She's the one whose been facing a lot of struggles (mainly due to her s*upidity).

A lot of the characters are s*upid and petty. It got tiring because it was repetitive.

MC and ML has no chemistry at all.... more>> They're being praised as smart and elegant. TBH, they're overrated. MC is 14 and ML is 18. I don't have comments on their age gap because the setting is in ancient times. And it was not an outrageous difference of eight years and above like in most novels.

One thing that bothered me in the beginning is the MC being addressed as Ruan Si Niang. Niang is a term for Mother and it doesn't make sense that MC and Ruan San Niang are being addressed like this when they're not mothers. It would be more appropriate to call them Ruan Si Mei and Ruan San Mei/San Jie depending on who speaks it. <<less

I liked it. It's definitely a novel which you can finish compared to other long transmigration novels, which often repeat the same schemes. There is a decent amount of fluff, but not enough to drive people away and cringe.

The MC does not take part of the scheming as she just tries to live her life peacefully. The person who changed the course of the novel from the original is MC's older sister, and perhaps for the better for our MC. Although either way, MC would have had a good life... more>> whoever she married between the 2 men. Her older sister who is the "villainess" in this novel has become very s*upid because she overestimated herself and never truly learned from her mistakes.

Don't expect "amazing" schemes from this novel. There are some questions left to be answered or I wish could have been dwelled on a bit more by the author especially towards the end. But this novel is a feel-good transmigrating novel which allows the MC to fall in love and live a nice life outside the imperial palace. The interesting aspect of this novel is 100% the romance between the ML and the FL. So if you would like to read a novel set in Imperial China with a man and a woman without crazy amount of scheming, then this is for you. <<less

This is a feel-good novel. The main couple don’t have contradictions and the villains mostly harm themselves. There is drama- but it mostly involves other people. This is my go-to novel for when I need something wholesome to cheer me up.

If you like a sweet story with side dogblood plot, this is for you. It's not bad, but it cannot be said that it's good either.

It was a lax ride for the main CPs. Their romance is sweet and normal, boring tbh.

The side characters is what make me ticked off. Yes they are shitty, no-braincells to be seen but these characters are made by the author to be as such. The thing is, side characters CAN be used to further the plot, but the way author did it? Ugh. It... more>> was headache-inducing to see how the author utilized these characters as stepping stones for the CP, such as:

Ruan san-niang/Ruan Ning:

Spoiler

She was a college student. But good GOD she was not allowed to have any brains at all in this novel other than just giving the emperor some cool invention from the future. Yes she is a jealous bit*h yes she envies for things far beyond her reach but she was just written as a brainless cannon fodder who cannot see a moment of happines from MC and I hated that. Those are her only personality, smart in inventions, jealous of anyone having a good life, shitty at making plans that it backfired badly on her, and her fear of the emporer. She's just a puppet for the author to speed the plot. I have placed higher hopes on her being much clever but no it was nothing but dust. I am just— sigh. With how much golden finger she has, I am dissatisfied with the execution that's all.

[collapse]

And not just Ruan Ning, other cannon fodders such as Mu Qingling is handled rather distasteful too.

I gave this two stars, docking one for the bland romance, one for the wasteful handling of characters that could have been given more personality to give the stories more flavour, one bc it doesn't make me feel anything. <<less
