With the rising tide of steam power and machinery, who can come close to being a Beyonder? Shrouded in the fog of history and darkness, who or what is the lurking evil that murmurs into our ears?

Waking up to be faced with a string of mysteries, Zhou Mingrui finds himself reincarnated as Klein Moretti in an alternate Victorian-era world where he sees a world filled with machinery, cannons, dreadnoughts, airships, different machines, as well as Potions, Divination, Hexes, Tarot Cards, Sealed Artifacts…

The Light continues to shine but mystery has never gone far. Follow Klein as he finds himself entangled with the Churches of the world—both orthodox and unorthodox—while he slowly develops newfound powers thanks to the Beyonder potions.

Like the corresponding tarot card, The Fool, which is numbered 0—a number of unlimited potential—this is the legend of “The Fool”.

Holy f*ck; "hey, how are you?"

"Oh, I'm fine what are y-"

"In the hundred years ago names made a thing that made the era named names become really important because of thing. In that era named names there came to be the named big thing that is now one of the 4 named big things names of this era."

... more>> "Oh... cool bro, eh-"

"What happened eras ago? How did things go? Why did that happened? Who did that? Who is the leader of every single SECRET ORGANIZATION-wooooooooooow. -Proceeds to read another 2, 000 words of lore which no one asked for. Wow, I can't believe this person named with names found out that the other person named with names was the leader of a named big thing! In an era far away, woooooooooow."

So, I can't stand pretentious bullshit, this is that.

No progress in 100 chapter except for taking one potion? No problem with that, I can give it 100-400 chapters even if it's like that.

Cuttlefish thinks you've known the MC for ages and are best buddies? No problem, I can ignore such blatant laziness.

Hey, what's that? Oh! More lore out of nowhere when you don't even know the MC! Great! No problem, I can at least give it 100 chapters to know at least one of the multiple personalities that the author has granted him, each a borderline one.

Oh, but... Unnecessary wannabe 'ancient' british customs? Oh boy, I'm the f*cking f*ck out.

Besides not wanting to know how many f*cking sugar teaspoons of your f*cking mother the MC puts in his tea, coffee and his f*cking toilet, you also have to read about some ret*rded talk of not being gentlemanly because of training your body... HUH?! Guess what, it's not comedy, it is in f*cking seriousness! And that is only one example of, ooooh so many.

I wrote about this before and I couldn't feel more right as I repeat myself; Slice of Life and Xuanhuan/Xiana/Supernatural are not to be mixed.

The whole f*cking 101 chapters have been of pounds, soli and your motherf*cking coins, talking and talking and putting them into the front of your face in case you forget this is a british-based ambiance. Holy f*ck, just remembering those wannabe moments makes me cringe spiritually.

Maybe don't base a story out of a couple of exaggerated movies you saw? Dunno, maybe advising is even worst than staying silent at this point.

Unreadable.

Many people talk about world-building and so on; I am like, why do we hear so much about a world we were JUST introduced to? Who do you expect to like being given endless text of things that happened BEFORE and before, and before; over, over and over and over and over and over again...?

That is not world-building, that's just a different dump of information, and it maintains itself so for 100 chapters. All while the MC does just this ---> starts working for a church, starts working for a divination shop and drinks a potion.

WOW, 'world building'. I'm dying to read more about what everyone THINKS happened before, eras before, in few hundred chapters more into the future. Oh! The thrill!

If you can endure what I can not, then I guess I'd recommend you this novel. If not, save yourself the trouble, no need to be intimidated by this work having won one or two awards and from having 1k+ 5 stars.

Only one thing I can write about this positively, it did that one almost real battle between Beyonders entertaining, and the writing method is decent. <<less

Honestly one of the best world building. The writing is quite decent although confusing. The main character is probably not likable but relatable. Klein himself acts really like a "Fool" as he doesn't serve as a "good" guy and more of a regular person who only cares about themselves.

Spoiler

Klein himself has great abilities on later chapters but he doesn't help selflessly and acts more to his own benefit for his progression.

Overall characters are 10/10, the world itself is interesting 9/10, the mysteries is probably intriguing 10/10, the plot itself is 8/10. <<less

A very good novel. The beginning (chapter 1-100ish) may be a little bit boring, but if you persevere (I gave up twice before picking it up again), you will be rewarded with a very, very deep and interesting story. Every event in the later part of the book is foreshadowed, and most of which has an explanation that is written for them in the later parts. The power system is unique as well, because rather than just using the classic braindead powerups, the author actually make a fleshed out power... more>> system (using potions). Though the ending did feel a little rushed, the author has promised a second, and maybe a third book, so they will probably clear up any plotholes. <<less

I have read over 400+ chapters and going to read it till the end, I've to say that they have written very well as expected from Cuttlefish That Loves Diving, this story is more like an adventure to discover the history of the world that is hidden by certain people and organizations and is very interesting the pace of the story with no fillers or unnecessary chapters, the development of the characters of this novel is very good with been that every character having her/him unique way of talking and... more>> thinking are different that you won't find a character that is died to be revived with another name with the same characteristics of the personality and the MC isn't that overpowered that can steamroll all the villains, most of the time MC has to be very careful with his words and performance so that he doesn't get killed by exposing any clue about himself, most of the time you will be in a state of tension when reading because any phrase that is spoken may will be a hidden clue that will be revealed in the upcoming chapters, what I liked the most about this novel is the way MC humor himself lol you probably won't understand and I won't delves in the story so not spoiler anything unnecessary, my advice to you after 469+ chapter is that you better just go start reading it without much delay cos this one seems to be one of the best chinese novels that ever been written as expected of Cuttlefish That Loves Diving

.,..,........

Alright now after the last chapters of the novel I have to say that I'm really looking forward for the sequel, hope it's the same translation quality

So let's rate it like this

Story 10/10

Plot 10/10

Characters development 10/10

Power systems 10/10

Translation quality 10/10

Romance 0/10 this one have no romance at all

Comedy 7/10 not overly comedic novel but has some comedic humor that is very entertaining

Family interaction 3/10 because MC has to protect them so apart from the first arc all the interaction basically cut but MC checking on them from time to time from afar

Mystical items 10/10 so many items introduced but not forgotten like many other novels

Friendship 5/10 and not going to explain because I don't want to spolier anything

that's the end of my review can't wait for the sequel that supposed to be start in 2022 <<less

The start is very boring for people who expect some cool action at the beginning, but after the Volume 1: Clown, we finally get to see a lots of action. The progress of the MC is very slow, so if you like instant OP MCs, this novel is not for you. Oh and this novel is also very slow-paced, like really slow-paced for people like me who's used to reading low-quality writing tr*sh webnovels.

The plot is excellent, the worldbuilding is great, but the character depth is mediocre. Overall, this is... more>> a great novel, so go ahead and see if it suits your preference.

You will not regret it. Must read. <<less

This book lives up to all the hype. One of the best written/translated works I've read in a long time. It doesn't feel like a CN web novel at all, it could honestly pass as a popular novel series. Loved how intense this was. Fair warning though: this book can be quite creepy or gory at times, so don't read if you're not comfortable with that! Looking forward to checking out more of this author's works and for the sequel!

The best book. It's so weird having to find out that this was originally a webnovel as I read it in Mandarin with the physical copy.

I had to create an account here just to say my piece. Rich world, excellent characters that matures throughout the story and the very well researched power system.

Good. Well written, entertaining, for the most part things make sense and doesn’t have any huge loopholes where I’m thinking this is totally contradictory.

Improvements

  • the fight against error was a little too descriptive almost to the point seemed like author just tried to outsmart himself.
  • Side story at end was s*upid didn’t even bother to read that.
  • ending was lame even though another book is coming author took a break and is still in the middle of that
  • story seemed to progress a lot faster at the end. Could have been spaced out more. Seemed a bit cramped.
  • Personally would have liked a little more action

WARNING BEFORE YOU READ:

Spoiler

The ending is not a true ending since the author plans this to be a trilogy. 2nd installment is still in the works and will focus more on the Tarot Club members.

[collapse]

Cons:

  • Too many details
  • Too much explaining on said details
  • Arcs got a bit dragging near the end
Pros:

  • Everything else
You can easily tell how much effort and love the author put into this work. I'd say MC had a lot of plot armor but it was done in an entertaining way compared to other adventure novels I've read.

The characters, the world building, the story, the progression of the story, power leveling, power scaling, mystery plot, comedy (basically lampooning) and what not, everything is very good in this novel.

If you don't like a cautious protag, then this is not for you. The world is such that any mistake can lead to an easy death, so the protag is very careful and the progressively unveils the mystery of the world.

This novel is one of the best I have read. The story setting, plot, characters, world-building are world-class. Despite its shortcomings like the ending and lengthy story, it still deserves a solid 5 from me. Definitely a READ!!

I'm welcoming myself to another round of emptiness after finishing this masterpiece. I'm not going to babble at all, because this novel is beyond words — simply indescribable. Reading it for a month was worth it, can't wait for the next book. Although the book had a slow start, the narrating pace complemented its nature. I'm going to suffer waiting for 2022 now, goodbye.

Pros:

  • Well written plot, top notch world building, a well-explained power system (potions) that can be understood.
Spoiler

And the power system also has its own lore and dangers behind it

[collapse]

  • Really awesome MC (rational, described as and is actually cautious, likes to lampoon a lot and his inner sarcasm/lampoons can be quite funny lol, doesn't hesitate to kill if necessary but still has a kind humane side).
Spoiler

An example would be the Bansy Harbor incident where MC saves the passengers/captain who had shown goodwill towards him (after divining that the danger level is high but acceptable) but doesn't go out of his way to investigate the oddities of Bansy Harbor when they smelled blood on the telegraph office and directly orders to go back to the ship instead (as the divining shows that there is a great level of dormant danger in Bansy Harbor)

[collapse]

  • Well-developed side characters with their own traits, goals, companions and journey/story/progress
  • Actually threatening antagonists who aren't s*upid.
Spoiler

and entertaining too lol. 0-08 is such as troll which gives an obscene level of plot armor to that Zangwill and Amon is terrifying but hilarious

[collapse]

Cons:

  • Spoiler

I feel like Leonard's closeness with MC after they meet again was a bit off since they didn't seem that close back when they were working together in Nighthawks. Still, I liked their relationship a lot overall since MC does need someone he can be mostly open with. So it's a minor pet peeve

    [collapse]
  • This novel is completed but the story isn't complete, so the ending is well a cliff-hanger lol.
Spoiler

Someone says there is a Book 2 coming but the wiki Authors Notes says that Book 2 will only cover until Klein's return (and that we'll have a different MC??? Author pls no, I love Klein). Apparently the supposed war against the Outer Deities mentioned in the story is supposed to be on Book 3 but the author isn't sure whether they are going to write it or not....

Sinply put, it was an interesting experience. The characterization, plot, and theme caught my interest and subsequently convinced me to complete 1400 chapters.

An experience I would recommend to anyone who has a great interest in fantasy.

With a likeable and mysterious protagonist, and complimentary side characters, it helped weave a wonderful and colorful world.

The entire concept of the Tarot Club is one of the bigger reasons on why I continued to press forward with this webnovel. It provoked my imagination of hidden heroic figures, and how that secret organization crosses with... more>> the outside world.

With the detailed explaination of the various beyonders and their specific set of abilities, it further brought the attention of an interesting lump of lore. Although it could be one of the reasons why I would not rate it a perfect 5/5, mainly because of the vast amounts of info dumps.

Regardless, I would still recommend this series to people who crave to read any cthulu-related fantasy. Who knows, you might be interested in these. <<less

This though.... This need more reader! this must be the most interesting, and different novel from all the CN novel in the same genre. It is slow burn type, by I mean slow, it is really slow but really satisfying at the same time. It packs with so many emotion. After done reading the part 1 of the story which is like almost 1400 chapters, I still want more! I am sure that tells something. All of the information sometime overwhelming for my potato brain but it is still acceptable... more>> to the point I still enjoy the story a lot. come on, read it people!! the set up of the story is so perfectly done that it need to take time for it. But what come after that is a world that did not let you relax or breath at all. I like how this novel did not have that kind of OP MC that will never lose in battles.

Talking about the MC, this must be the best MC you can find. Not OP, knows when to stop, care about the people in his surrounding. He always stick to his rules which are always be fully prepared before a battle and never rushed things up. I found this very likeable. I must say, he really caring about people around him. haih, while writing this, I still want more chapters or another part of the story to be out. I miss Mr. fool and the tarot club already. Anyway, this is a messy review but the thing is, READ THIS NOVEL GUYS. <<less

Going from Release that Witch to this, certainly made the whole premise easier to accept, as it was for Zhou Mingrui to just transmigrate into Klein Moretti. Within an Industrial Era "Fantasy" world, full of the Supernatural, Powerful Religious Organisations, Eldritch Horrors & Secret Societies. A nice change from all the readily available Medieval & Chinese Fantasy worlds. Unfortunately I found this novel to be quite difficult to get into, as a procedural investigative drama. Until the first major turning point that comes out of nowhere and upends the focus... more>> of the story. Unveiling an unsettling atmosphere full of body horror more suitable for a visual medium.

This being a Xuanhuan WN where there's the constant apprehension of be deceived or mislead. It has a very distinctive spiritualist system of combat that follows a Class format (e.g. Warrior, Assassin, Sailor, Seer), with a "Path" of progression and enough room for creativity to allow for some mesmerizing battles or mind games. The meticulous Mr. Moretti and his endeavours are a delight to read. With how his words & actions lead the other well established characters to some amusing misunderstandings and the build-up of his impressive Tarot Club, Which I find to house some of the best interactions. Towards the end I began to lose interest, as the story ramps up and the power creep accelerates through the roof. Nevertheless it is overall a fantastic novel, bar non-ending (hoping there's a sequel), followed by the seemingly pointless side stories. <<less

Definitely one of the best novels I ever read, whether it's the settings, world building, MC, character development or the plot are well made and fascinating. I followed this novel from the release of the 2nd vol, dropped it once because of the death of one of my favorite side characters but still came back because it's really worth it. I dropped it again around vol 6 (I was afraid that author would make a bad ending which will lead to me hating the story like many others) I still couldn't master the courage to continue the novel till now.

Some might think that the story is slow based or boring. I used to think so at the beginning (mainly the 1st 100 or 200 chapters) but later I found it reasonable and it build a good foundation for the world and plot development. The only major drawback I find in the story is the religion struggle theme as the author used some elements form real religions and even used a future version of the earth for the world building. The other thing is the development of other characters (especially the other club members) lag behind compared to the MC and the story progress.

this novel has a really complex world, I absolutely love it. MC is the most underdog guy i've seen. He climb from the bottom to the top just by using his adaptation ability. Although not extremely intelligent he still somewhat clever when it comes to getting the perfect opportunity to do things.

I won't recommend this novel to people as a first novel to read, because after u read Lord of the Mysteries (and Reverend Insanity) ur standard would be too high.
