With the rising tide of steam power and machinery, who can come close to being a Beyonder? Shrouded in the fog of history and darkness, who or what is the lurking evil that murmurs into our ears?

Waking up to be faced with a string of mysteries, Zhou Mingrui finds himself reincarnated as Klein Moretti in an alternate Victorian-era world where he sees a world filled with machinery, cannons, dreadnoughts, airships, different machines, as well as Potions, Divination, Hexes, Tarot Cards, Sealed Artifacts…

The Light continues to shine but mystery has never gone far. Follow Klein as he finds himself entangled with the Churches of the world—both orthodox and unorthodox—while he slowly develops newfound powers thanks to the Beyonder potions.

Like the corresponding tarot card, The Fool, which is numbered 0—a number of unlimited potential—this is the legend of “The Fool”.

I am absolutely enamored with this captivating story!

The world-building is truly top-notch, and it sets the stage for an immersive experience. The characters are expertly characterized, each possessing depth that goes beyond merely filling space. The plot is intricately woven, and while the narrative can be a tad wordy, it is essential for grasping the nuances of the world and its power system.

I got interested in trying out this story because of the fan artwork that I found on the internet.

The first volume serves as a gentle introduction, sprinkled with... more>> tantalizing mysteries. Following the first Tarot Club gathering, I found myself hooked, embarking on a month-long marathon to savor every moment. It turned out to be the best month of my year.

My favorite arcs, including the Megosa arc, the Hero Bandit arc, the German Sparrow arc, and the UTOPIA arc (man, do I want to experience this eerie town) , showcase the story's diverse offerings.

Each volume contributes something unique, making the reading experience consistently enjoyable.

Now delving into the second book, I am pleased to report that it has not disappointed thus far. The narrative continues to unfold seamlessly, maintaining the high standards set by the first volume. I eagerly anticipate the journey ahead and am grateful for the rich storytelling that has made this series a standout in my reading list. <<less

I find it funny how a lot of people gave this novel a low rating just because they didn't read the whole story or understand the story. Especially those people that mention a lot of things in their review and says that it wasn't important to the plot when it actually has an impact to the plot. Volume 1 actually has a lot of foreshadowing that when I reread I was like "WOW :o it was actually mentioned in the 1st volume!?" Or very sad because of that one plot... more>> twist that is actually foreshadowed in the 1st volume like "the signs!" Why didn't I notice?

Tho I wouldn't deny that the 1st volume will make you bored? I actually dropped this 3 times cause I just cant get into it (i cant get past the chapter 24), then when I decided to read it again for the 4th time cause a lot of people recommended it, I was hooked! And its just the 1st chapter. Its like a magic, even I cant believe that it hooked me in the first chapter when in the first 3 times that I tried to read this novel I was very bored that I decided to dropped it.

My advice is to read this when your in the mood or when your very curious of what will happen in this novel, but its ok if you dropped this multiple times like me, you just have to find the right time to read this again if you want.

One of the things that I really like in this novel is the world building. Like the history!, the power system!, the origin of their powers!, the gods!, the churches!, the cause and effect of everything!, and many others that I'm to lazy to type.

History: one of the things that I really like in this novel. In this novel there is 6 epochs, the pre epoch, the 1st epoch, the 2nd epoch, the 3rd epoch, the 4th epoch:the epoch of the gods! (My 2nd favorite!) And of course the fifth epoch: the iron age (my 1st favorite cause that's where klein is ;). Each epoch has their own big events and stories that will be unfolded as you further read this novel. The things that happened in each epoch has an effect to the next epoch and of course the fifth epoch. In this story you will know that things are like that because of what happened before.

The power system: the system in this novel is one of the things that I really like. In this novel there are 22 pathways (is this a spoiler?) and each pathway has 9 sequence, that's all I will tell cause the other things will be a spoiler. In this novel the power system also has a story (like how it become like that or why it become like that etc.) The story will be slowly unfolded as you further read the novel.

The origin of the powers: one of the reasons why I really like this novel. In this novel it actually told us where the power came from!! (I mean everything in this novel has a reason). The origin will also be unfolded as you further read the story.

The gods: again one of the reason why I really like this novel. Each god has their own authority (or power). There is 7 (?) Orthodox deities. The sun god, ever night goddess, lord of storms, etc (im too lazy to type) you will know them all as you further read the novel.

The churches: again one of the reason why I really like this novel. In here each churches has their own customs and beliefs. The characters in this novel believe in the variety of god or goddess. In this novel there are actually reasons why there the deities build their own churches.

Okay I will end my review now since im too lazy to type.

So all in all I will rate this 10/10 this is really a good novel but has a slow start that's why a lot of people dropped this. But if you want to read this just go! Even if you drop it multiple times like me its okay just find the right time to read this if you really want to. <<less

Here's a short explanation:

A random dude form the 21st century wakes up in the dead body of a history major graduate, this guy like all the other white guys in a horror movie could not keep his d*ck in his pants so he f*ck*d around, and as you already know, the more you f*ck around the more you find out.

Long story short he puts a whole in his own head, and writes on his notebook an ominous message that says "everyone will die including me" (no dub obviously, can't... more>> believe he killed himself over this, what was he child before this)

The MC is now trapped in a world he doesn't know anything about, in the body of a guy who he doesn't know anything about in a Victorian era world with supernatural stuff, and so he does what anyone would do in his shoes.

He starts a cult, tricks people into joining it while pretending to be a God, so that he can learn the truth about this world.

10/10 would recommend. Can't believe I almost missed this gem because of the lower scored reviews on here. Please give it a try!! <<less

I typically don't read long, 1000+ chapter books like this because I occasionally have problems with my memory and even 300 chapters can make me forget somethings about a book. As expected, I forgot pretty much 50% of the book, but I remember the general premise. And I also remember how this book made me feel.

The writing is straightforward and gets to the point in an eloquent manner that really sets the atmosphere. I appreciate how the author can make humor in precarious situations, and I also admire how the... more>> author can set aside humor in any scenario to touch the hearts of the readers. I've cried during this book! I don't remember what about, but I know I cried more than once, and that's not something that happens often.

I don't know what inspired Cuttlefish to write this book, but I'm glad they did. I'm currently on chapter 19 of book two, and I can't wait for more! <<less

What a cliffhanger. I shouldn't have read it, well that's that. I usually read novel that are already completed and it annoys me when I read books with a to be continued vibe in it. But it was a good novel thought. It is interesting how the author used the tarot cards as symbols of the characters and the puzzles and mysteries in it. It's a bit predictable and it would've been better if the author made it the character more detailed and mysterious making the novel more interesting for... more>> me. Still liked it though so thumbs up. <<less

One of the few series of web/light novel form that clearly deserve a physical book release, LotM is undoubtedly a great book. From start to finish, it remains a captivating story with many twists that give you a breath of fresh air and instantly take it away. I finished this book in a matter of 3 weeks, spending many hours a day actively reading and most of the rest of the day thinking about it. The author of this book is truly capable, and I can not wait for the... more>> completion of the next two installments of this series. <<less

LOTM is wonderfully written and not written like a typical webnovel. I like the scp vibes added into it. MC and the side characters are well written, have their own flaws and motivations and unlike other cn MC, Mc's actions, character and behavior is questioned by the side characters. In fact, the plot is also based on asking questions, curiosity on things that aren't meant to be known or can be known if you are able to bear the consequences.

The mysteries surrounding the Gods and beyonders is interesting and the... more>> world building is on point.

LOTM is certainly well thought out, every subplot or event that happens links to another.

There's no romance which is a bonus, and it's not hinted at all. In fact, a lot of authors use romance as a driving factor to show Mc's emotions and to drive the plot, here it's unnecessary
Spoiler

as a beyonder when they advance gets closer to being a God (and being a God doesn't mean they lose their emotions but rather their humanity, though they lose it. They treat their believers as believers, they don't cross "boundaries"by being affectionate, they don't even answer their believers prayers. While MC strives to keep his humanity even after he became a God because unlike the current God's he remembers the world before beyonders and Gods) so the focus isn't on the fact that you can feel sadness, hate, love but rather on your humanity nature in a way and Godliness

[collapse]

I'm looking forward for book 2.

The Cons: it's way too slow, the ending was way too rushed. Author is trying so hard to remind us the difference between MC and Amon, The Villain Amon is a much better character than the MC. The build up for Zaratul was so great and yet un fairly used. Evernight Goddesses reason for helping MC is just too lackluster, but she gains a lot (shrugs). The evil pathways have more followers (lol) than the good ones and they are always planning something (I hope the good pathways retaliate well in book 2 /3 can't just be passive all the time now) <<less

Everyone has said it all: good worldbuilding, excellent power system and fight choreography, memorable characters and well written interactions, and witty humor. Main thing to take note while reading: this story is super bingeable, but a lot of the world building demands you take it in slowly enough and digest so that you can recall it later when stuff gets mentioned many chapters later. A lot of fans will reread to get the details that they missed the first round, so don't feel bad if you have to continue on... more>> with a few confusions. And remember that there is no filler here whatsoever. <<less

This is so good. The world building, the lore, and even the side characters were well developed and written. I simply love these types of novels, long at first, but, once you dive into it, it will leave you hungry for more, I am 13, so I can't really describe my words well, but this webnovel took me 3 weeks to finish. It is stunning and absolutely breathtaking. Genuinely the best webnovel for me. I highly recommend it.

Honesty this novel was something I wasn't sure about when I first read it because the first few 100 chapters was bland and didn't have a lot going on plus there wasn't that much development. So I can kind of see why people would just drop it off there and find it too slow paced, but in a way the author is doing that to set up the world. Which then adds up very beautifully later on in the story. Plus as the story process even more the development just... more>> gets better and better.

Not to mention the characters mention in the novel is not 2 dimensional or cliche unlike a lot of transmigration novel where they always seem to have that person or group with that same repetitive villainous personality and character characteristics; not to mention so dumb that they always highlight the protagonist. All the characters mention have a certain indepth personality and felt very life like that when they die or are in a sad situation you can't help but cry for them. Also the main character is a very likeable person and isn't a stubborn, arrogant, or overpowered person, his journey to becoming stronger was one of the things I enjoyed the most and his interaction with the other characters was the most enjoyable.

After reading this novel it has currently become one of the best web novel I have read so far and will always have a special place in my heart. So I really hope people that want to try it wont just give up on the first 100 chapters and actually give it a chance. <<less

Throughout the past two years I've been reading this novel, and my opinion of it changed many times. But I can now say after having completed it, god tier storytelling. I love it, I will forever love it. The story is a huge puzzle that continues to be put together throughout the story, and is still incomplete even now that part 1 has reached its conclusion. I loved the worldbuilding, the power system, the fights, the characters, and our MC. I'm sad I have to wait for the sequel now.

I... more>> don't have much to add that isn't already said, so I thought I'd just tell you its really good. <<less

Interesting story, interwoven with mystery, action and fantasy elements. A nice thing about it is that unlike many stories it lacks romance. The setting of medieval Europe is quite interesting as it demonstrates the authors perception of this time period. It is also quite novel seeing fantasy elements intertwined with a medieval setting. The author also does a great job at world building, creating a detailed magic system, establishing a mystery and solving it as well as writing detailed and intriguing characters. I recommend reading this story if you are... more>> interested in such genres. Though the start is slow and poorer quality compared to the remainder of the book, you should give the story a chance. The book is quite memorable and worth reading. <<less

Holy f*ck; "hey, how are you?"

"Oh, I'm fine what are y-"

"In the hundred years ago names made a thing that made the era named names become really important because of thing. In that era named names there came to be the named big thing that is now one of the 4 named big things names of this era."

... more>> "Oh... cool bro, eh-"

"What happened eras ago? How did things go? Why did that happened? Who did that? Who is the leader of every single SECRET ORGANIZATION-wooooooooooow. -Proceeds to read another 2, 000 words of lore which no one asked for. Wow, I can't believe this person named with names found out that the other person named with names was the leader of a named big thing! In an era far away, woooooooooow."

So, I can't stand pretentious bullshit, this is that.

No progress in 100 chapter except for taking one potion? No problem with that, I can give it 100-400 chapters even if it's like that.

Cuttlefish thinks you've known the MC for ages and are best buddies? No problem, I can ignore such blatant laziness.

Hey, what's that? Oh! More lore out of nowhere when you don't even know the MC! Great! No problem, I can at least give it 100 chapters to know at least one of the multiple personalities that the author has granted him, each a borderline one.

Oh, but... Unnecessary wannabe 'ancient' british customs? Oh boy, I'm the f*cking f*ck out.

Besides not wanting to know how many f*cking sugar teaspoons of your f*cking mother the MC puts in his tea, coffee and his f*cking toilet, you also have to read about some ret*rded talk of not being gentlemanly because of training your body... HUH?! Guess what, it's not comedy, it is in f*cking seriousness! And that is only one example of, ooooh so many.

I wrote about this before and I couldn't feel more right as I repeat myself; Slice of Life and Xuanhuan/Xiana/Supernatural are not to be mixed.

The whole f*cking 101 chapters have been of pounds, soli and your motherf*cking coins, talking and talking and putting them into the front of your face in case you forget this is a british-based ambiance. Holy f*ck, just remembering those wannabe moments makes me cringe spiritually.

Maybe don't base a story out of a couple of exaggerated movies you saw? Dunno, maybe advising is even worst than staying silent at this point.

Unreadable.

Many people talk about world-building and so on; I am like, why do we hear so much about a world we were JUST introduced to? Who do you expect to like being given endless text of things that happened BEFORE and before, and before; over, over and over and over and over and over again...?

That is not world-building, that's just a different dump of information, and it maintains itself so for 100 chapters. All while the MC does just this ---> starts working for a church, starts working for a divination shop and drinks a potion.

WOW, 'world building'. I'm dying to read more about what everyone THINKS happened before, eras before, in few hundred chapters more into the future. Oh! The thrill!

If you can endure what I can not, then I guess I'd recommend you this novel. If not, save yourself the trouble, no need to be intimidated by this work having won one or two awards and from having 1k+ 5 stars.

Only one thing I can write about this positively, it did that one almost real battle between Beyonders entertaining, and the writing method is decent. <<less

Honestly one of the best world building. The writing is quite decent although confusing. The main character is probably not likable but relatable. Klein himself acts really like a "Fool" as he doesn't serve as a "good" guy and more of a regular person who only cares about themselves.

Spoiler

Klein himself has great abilities on later chapters but he doesn't help selflessly and acts more to his own benefit for his progression.

Overall characters are 10/10, the world itself is interesting 9/10, the mysteries is probably intriguing 10/10, the plot itself is 8/10. <<less

A very good novel. The beginning (chapter 1-100ish) may be a little bit boring, but if you persevere (I gave up twice before picking it up again), you will be rewarded with a very, very deep and interesting story. Every event in the later part of the book is foreshadowed, and most of which has an explanation that is written for them in the later parts. The power system is unique as well, because rather than just using the classic braindead powerups, the author actually make a fleshed out power... more>> system (using potions). Though the ending did feel a little rushed, the author has promised a second, and maybe a third book, so they will probably clear up any plotholes. <<less

I have read over 400+ chapters and going to read it till the end, I've to say that they have written very well as expected from Cuttlefish That Loves Diving, this story is more like an adventure to discover the history of the world that is hidden by certain people and organizations and is very interesting the pace of the story with no fillers or unnecessary chapters, the development of the characters of this novel is very good with been that every character having her/him unique way of talking and... more>> thinking are different that you won't find a character that is died to be revived with another name with the same characteristics of the personality and the MC isn't that overpowered that can steamroll all the villains, most of the time MC has to be very careful with his words and performance so that he doesn't get killed by exposing any clue about himself, most of the time you will be in a state of tension when reading because any phrase that is spoken may will be a hidden clue that will be revealed in the upcoming chapters, what I liked the most about this novel is the way MC humor himself lol you probably won't understand and I won't delves in the story so not spoiler anything unnecessary, my advice to you after 469+ chapter is that you better just go start reading it without much delay cos this one seems to be one of the best chinese novels that ever been written as expected of Cuttlefish That Loves Diving

.,..,........

Alright now after the last chapters of the novel I have to say that I'm really looking forward for the sequel, hope it's the same translation quality

So let's rate it like this

Story 10/10

Plot 10/10

Characters development 10/10

Power systems 10/10

Translation quality 10/10

Romance 0/10 this one have no romance at all

Comedy 7/10 not overly comedic novel but has some comedic humor that is very entertaining

Family interaction 3/10 because MC has to protect them so apart from the first arc all the interaction basically cut but MC checking on them from time to time from afar

Mystical items 10/10 so many items introduced but not forgotten like many other novels

Friendship 5/10 and not going to explain because I don't want to spolier anything

that's the end of my review can't wait for the sequel that supposed to be start in 2022 <<less

The start is very boring for people who expect some cool action at the beginning, but after the Volume 1: Clown, we finally get to see a lots of action. The plot is excellent, the worldbuilding is great, but the character depth is mediocre. Overall, this is... more>> a great novel, so go ahead and see if it suits your preference.

This book lives up to all the hype. One of the best written/translated works I've read in a long time. It doesn't feel like a CN web novel at all, it could honestly pass as a popular novel series. Loved how intense this was. Fair warning though: this book can be quite creepy or gory at times, so don't read if you're not comfortable with that! Looking forward to checking out more of this author's works and for the sequel!
