Yeho is a distant relative to a king in a small kingdom. Even though he is a distant relative, his house was very poor, and his mother was addicted to gambling. One day North Empire asked for Princess Sooyoung to be a concubine of an old Emperor because she was known for her beauty. But the king really loved his daughter so instead he ordered Yeho’s older sister to disguise as Princess Sooyoung and marry the old Emperor.

Yeho told his sister to run away with her lover, and his sister had to leave her younger brother alone with his mother. After she ran away, Yeho asked his mother to give the things back to the king that she got for trying to sell her daughter, but his mother already used the gifts to pay off her gambling debt. He was trying to give the gifts back to the king to take away his order, but now he can’t do that anymore. He tells his mother to run away, and he disguises as his sister to go to North Empire.

After he got there, he was trying to tell the Emperor the truth and take away his life, but the Emperor went out for few days to look around his empire. When the emperor came back, he wasn’t as old as he thought.

It's a late review after finished reading this one a long time ago.

Yeho was built on interesting "gender bender" premise. The feelings were strong in this one, and characters were distinctly defined. It's true what other reviewers said that the development was too rushed; for some, the relationship might seem like coming out of nowhere. However, the plot was pretty solid and author's narrative was good. As a BL/drama novel, it's worth a read.

Honestly, I don't get why this novel has such high ratings, to me it's worth at most 2.5 stars. There is no plot to speak of and the characters are flat, especially Yeho, who should get the special title of "Isabela Swan of BL" - he was insecure, self-sacrificing, and blamed himself for EVERYTHING, and that's it. No other definable characteristics. He was so pastel he could have been painted by Degas. Then, you have the Emperor, who for no apparent reason, falls for Yeho. Just. Like. That. You don't... more>> even get to read the moment, it just sort of happens between one chapter and the next (which is set, like, three weeks later, btw). The author even tries to make it romantic by having the emperor say "if it could be justified, it would not be true love" - COME ON!

There's also the female characters, the female servant, who seemed like the most interesting of the bunch, though I can't be sure since she barely appeared, and the Empress, who was there just

to give the OTP a push so they'd stop dawdling and just frickin admit they liked each other (after what seemed like an endless number of chapters of them being depressed because they lacked the necessary communication skills to solve the obligatory cheesy romance misunderstanding)

FUgh, you know what? Forget the 2.5 (3) star rating, let me change it to a 2

Edit (after reading Awesome Sauce's review) : You do have a point when you say that considering Yeho's life, his actions were justified, but my main problem with him is that those are the only things that define his character, and it felt too one-dimentional to me. Perhaps I didn't express myself well enough, but my main gripe is that other than the three characteristics I mentioned above and his love for his sister and the Emperor, there's nothing else that defines him, and he stays that way. He's a flat, static character who doesn't change, doesn't evolve, and that pisses me off <<less

The MC was too selfless for his own good, and that was the main barrier for the relationship. However in his defense, and a slight refute to Andrez-ssi who reviewed before me, I think his character was not completely unrealistic. His reasons were understandable and it further complemented his nature. Remember: he was raised by his generous sister, and felt like a burden his entire life. It makes sense that those feelings would translate to the first relationship he goes into, which is also very complicated.

So in conclusion, I... more>> liked it. The angst could clearly be felt but wasn't overwhelming so, just light like fine rain (theme in the story yo). The characters were all realistic and likable (oh except for the mom) and the BL action was pretty light--nothing explicit.

Warning to all who are planning to read this: "Sadly the thing I will translate will be incomplete one... There is a free sample on the internet, but those are not complete, and I have that... I don't have the book sadly" from the translator's website.

As someone previously stated before me, my only wish is that there would be a little more so we could also have a share and bask in their happy ending. Too bad. (3.5/5) <<less

They said that the internet version is like a summary of the book so I didn't complain so much to the development along the story. It was really worthwhile, it made me want to look for the book and read it literally. Well, that would be something. Anyway, great story! Yeho seems a bit martyr but in the end it was his way to show his greed and the Emperor was so cute for being so straightforward. Though it is a BL novel, the character I like the best is... more>> Your Grace, the Empress. Such a cunning woman! <<less

I cried several times during the read.

The insecurity and anguish made me melt.

Read that this is the sort version and there is the book and CD with more days and continuation. Will try and see if I can get in. But for sure will not be in English. If anyone gets the change to get it pls translate it and post it online.

Thank you.

Aww.... this is perfect for a short and sweet read. It's angsty fluff. (*๓´╰╯`๓) I do wish I could read the longer version.

The characters are paper thin, not much personality for either of the main couple. The Uke is weak, physically and otherwise. He's super insecure. He's the perfecr match for the seme who is the emperor, and as the emperor, he does have that sense of entitlement that could only come from being born in that kind of nobility. He has the typical "cold, unreachable king" vibe who only... more>> acts sweet and gentle around the uke. A cliché that will probably never lose its popularity.

I also have to say that the Empress is my favorite character here. In fact, most of the female side characters are a delight to read! A caring sister, a reliable head of Yeho's servant, and the surprisingly pleasant Empress (๑•̀ᄇ•́) و ✧

Yeho is a good, uplifting read, just don't have too high expections when it comes to the plot ( ̄▽ ̄) There's no external conflict in this story. Just a lot of melodramatic feelings from Yeho. <<less

it's both sweet and realistic at the same time, the only thing that I don't like is the length of this story.. So short :<

This is a short romance between the emperor and a man who took his sister's place in an arranged marriage to become one of the emperor's concubines. You won't find anything super original in this story, but the flow is nice and the rain and magnolia imagery very atmospheric. There's some predictable angst coming from a misunderstanding from lack of communication, which takes up the majority of the story's tension because we can't have the main characters getting together too fast.

Overall, it's a good break from longer stories. And the... more>> angst isn't that bad because nothing awful happens to the main characters and there's none of your typical scheming/evil concubine/empress shenanigans, thankfully. Oh, also, the MC is the weak/sickly/self-blaming kind, so be prepared. <<less

This was sweet it made my teeth ache. I was gritting my teeth the whole time I was reading this story. At times it was so frustrating! Our Yeho (yes, I call him that) is so naive and cute. Sometimes I wanted to just hug him and other times I want to shake and ask him how exactly he comes up with those thoughts of his. To be fair, the wanted the same thing. This story just proves, again, that in a relationship you won't go anywhere without COMMUNICATION.",)

It's been a long time since I last read a story with such a weak (both physically, mentally, and emotionally) protagonist. It's very refreshing.

The protagonist, Yeho, is a very insecure young boy. He is innocent and childlike. He feels that he is a burden for the people around him and that made him more closed off from everyone. He is emotional, naive, humble, and easily prone to degrading himself. So for those who can't take a weak protagonist, back off!!

Next is the male lead, ... more>>

who is the emperor, though that's basically not a spoiler since its blatantly imposed on the synopsis.

Well, this is a very short story. Too short that I felt, well, that it ain't enough. <<less

I cried okay?

At first I left this novel at chapter 5 because it was getting too depressing and I couldn't handle it further. But then it kept on staying on the back of my mind as if I'm recalling a past life, sounds crazy as heck. So I came back and finished this novel. This is worth your hour, I recommend putting a sad song while reading.

I really didn't like Yeho. I don't hate him but it's impossible to connect with his character!

He's got everything in his hands & all he has to do is accept it! But he won't even share his insecurities & fears with the emperor... Where's the communication in their relationship??

And he is so effin insecure! Kind of a goody goody character who feels like he's a curse to everyone who he loves :|

... more>> Basically, after entering the palace Yeho's procrastinating ends up giving us 15 filler chapters.

P.S. it's short cuz it's just the internet version. The actual book is longer <<less

I really love this story. It's just too bad that it is the short version. I, myself had tried to search for it. However, I can't find it anywhere online or I just don't know where to look. I had a feeling that I have to go to Korea just so I can find a copy of it. Hopefully, someday I can. Nevertheless, it is one of the best stories that I have ever read.

I see the bad comment and low rating of some so I'm a little angry.

I read this story more than a dozen of time already. Everytime I read this I'm satisfied. I really love this 😆😍😍😍

The only thing I hate about this story is I didn't read the longer version cause it's not translated. I did my best searching already but... 😭😭😭😭

... more>> Someone translate and find it please!!!

Something striking about this story is it's character emotion somehow I feel it so much like I'm the real person not just a reader... Don't know if other readers have this feelings too...

My heart filled with sadness, love, obssession, many other emotion... I like story where I feel like I'm the character myself. I feel their emotion... <<less
