she's scared that she'll be discarded by ML because of her own incompetence and start hurting her ? As what her father did to her.
Not the biggest spoiler, but when Maxi says he treats her like she's only involved in his bedroom life, it true for the most part. Most interactions outside the bedroom are him getting angry at her or obsessing over her or giving her the cold shoulder because he has the emotional maturity of a preteen. He has the same mindset as the rest of the men in this world which is "your my wife, therefore my property and you must obey me" but this is supposed to be a romance not human trafficking. When for the first handful of chapters are her quaking and can't look him in the eye, all the while getting some "spicy" scenes tossed in there like that's supposed to make it feel like everything's okay.
