usually, I don't like slow burns as they tend to drag in an annoying manner, but I was very interested in this one. This could be because I found their love story to be well written, even if the two characters are hard to understand from an outsider's point of view. In fact, that idea kept me interested since it felt as though there was only Song Xuanhe and Xiao Yuanmu in the world and I liked that feeling.
I was disappointed by what I found to be a rushed ending, especially as I was looking forward to a proper talk about Xuanhe's identity and true desires. I mean, there was all that build up of him leaving the novel's world, so I personally felt that to be shattered very quickly by how it ended. Left me feeling as though Yuanmu would always be the one to love the other more in their relationship, as he has always doubted.
