One of the best novels of this type. It's also one of the best novels you could recommend to someone just starting out as a book reader. If you want to read a funny system novel where the MC lays low, is cautious, and cultivates in secret, but when he comes out he surprises everyone this the novel for you. This is not a novel for people that want to see constant action. The MC basically for 90% of the novel is in seclusion cultivating the rest is just him... more>> coming out to save the world or save his disciples. The whole plot of the novel is that one shouldn't become c*cky just cause they are powerful and start taking risks, it's better to be cautious. At first we think that he should just go out and use his powers he's already the strongest right? But eventually we realize that if he didn't actually go in seclusion and hide himself, his powers, and just steadily build his strength this novel would've had a totally different outcome. <<less

Seriously this novel makes no sense. It started out fine, but almost halfway into the story and nothing happens. It's just the same crap over and over, an endless stream of people who all behave the same and come and go, all while the protagonist sits in the same spot and does just about nothing. It's just so uninteresting that it amazes me such a story was ever written. His character doesn't change, his actions don't change, and the setting doesn't change.

This one is unique. It's the story of the rise of our MC from Mortal to Absolute Omnipotence, he has the system which is mostly the reason for his success. The MC is very passive, he doesn't act unless prompted by an outside force. The first half of the story is still good, MC is more proactive there. But after that story seems to slow down but time in story speeds up, millions of year passby every few chapters. It became a bit of chore reading this at that time,... more>> but the story still has many intersting things to keep your interest even then.

Story,
From my perspective it's not just the story of the MC, but the story of MC, his Desciples, his descendents, his enemies and even the entire world (s). The secondary characters are the one whose adventures we get to see most of the time, even if only slightly. Also, there is something unique to this novel, that we see the world (s) grow. What do I mean by the "world (s) itself growing"? You will understand it if you read it.

MC,
Han Jue is a boring MC. He is charismatic, charming, funny, smart, ruthless but still boring nonetheless. He is not a hot blooded xianxia protagonist, usually I will praise such a character but this guy is way too passive. Although he still have his occasional moments of awesomeness which makes him bearable.

Characters,
The characters don't get forgotten, most of the time. Every character which gets a few chapters will be around for a long long time. Their personality though are nothing special, although all characters have their unique traits. The author does this thing where he would introduce a character as calm, or arrogant and also claim that he is secretly something else, secretly scheming or reckless. Technically, this should make the characters looks more dynamic and their personality more special, but he doesn't explore this much. So, they still feels like just a character with multiple traits and not a person. So, technically we have a unique cast of characters with their own unique traits, but they still feel pretty generic.

The World,
The world is one of the driving force for the story. Since, MC is a passive person and usually doesn't act unless he has absolute certainty of his victory. The world here acts as a plot device to the story to move forward. So, the times when MC truly makes his move is when the world itself is in danger. Other than that we never truly explore the world. Yes, MC goes from a weaker world to a stronger world several time. But he doesn't properly explore it, no secret realm, or anything like that.

Cultivation System,
One of my favorite Cultivation System I have ever read. After you become an Immortal level figure, the benefits of such a Cultivation level becomes more obvious than in any other novel. A higher level Cultivator feels Omnipotent to a lower level one. They can see past, future, all possibilities of someone with lower cultivation base. Time travel to kill someone's past self is a valid tactic between higher level cultivators. Dividing your will into millions or even billions and then have them reincarnate into individuals lives is something everyone seems to do. At higher level fights between similar level Cultivators, people bodies and even souls get destroyed multiple times in a fight and they keep regenerating and keep on fighting. Unless attacked by someone even stronger then them, all higher level cultivators are basically immortal and omnipotent.

Overall,
Good story. Good premise. A unique novel, you should definitely read as a xianxia fan, if you are looking for something new. The author is very creative with the abilities, worlds and characters. 8/10, not the best but definitely one of a kind. <<less

Novel name: Top Tier Providence, Secretly Cultivate for a Thousand Years
Chapters finished: 1192/1192 (Completed)
Overall rating: 9/10
Genre: Cultivation, Transmigrator, System

This mf is the most low-key MC I have ever seen, he doesn't go around courting death, stays inside his cave, and cultivates quietly trying to become immortal and live a peaceful life.
This is the most realistic transmigration I have ever read.

Go on an adventure? F*ck that, too much danger
Tournament arc? F*ck no, too much attention, attracts jealous villains
He is ruthless too, let the villain go? Bahaha hell no, that's a ticking bomb, better to get rid of it immediately
Save his friends? I told them mfs to stay inside instead of going on adventures outside in troublesome periods
He has a Harem and Isn't scared of girls, he also has a lot of kids.
The novel is pretty good, well written, has great translation, great world-building, and good character development as well for the side characters.

Highly recommended.

This was one of my favorites. The only thing that kind of annoyed me was that he kept getting stronger but he won't go out. And he won't stand up for his sect, fellow disciples or Master unless he knew for certain that he was stronger than the adversaries. The selfishness there is understandable, its pretty obvious in today's world. But atleast in a fantasy setting I'd like to see otherwise. Honestly, the MC is super lucky with his charm. If he didn't have it, he'd probably end up worse... more>> than that bald monk disciple of his. Really, I would say that half my adoration for this book is for the female MC's who are much more selfless than the MC. They're amazing, MC didn't deserve them. But I'd still see him marry them because he's the MC, after all. Not like they can marry me, hah! <<less

The story is quite perticular and unique among other xianxia novels I've read as the MC is acting like a scheming hermit: he doesn't go out of his cave/dao field quite often but still schemes against people hatting him. The world building and cultivation system is also quite detailled, but higher levels, about the "dao" are a bit too classical and boring.

The first part of the story up to around chapter 500-600 ish is quite good, and you're never too bored as there are always stuff happening. But after that,... more>> MC takes much longer to increase in levels, thus, there are much more schemes about tones of secondary characters, and so lots of unnecessary fillings, and it becomes really boring to read.

I kind of regret not having the MC spending time doing alchemy or crafting stuff: he spends all his time cultivating and the system rewards him for each checkpoint crossed quite often, but he never tries doing anything else.

It's a novel worth reading if you're looking for a non generic xianxia novel as it has a unique story and even the repetitiveness of schemes/subplots are smooth enough to not feel bored for close to 500 chapters. <<less

I can't really say it's a good novel, but the take on cultivation was interesting.

MC wants to be immortal, yeah, what's new about that? But the way he does it is almost new - cultivate secretly and don't get involved with anything that can kill you, which is downright reasonable.

Although the story does revolve around him, but in reality he barely does anything other than get stronger, and so the story develops like he was watching TV, but also had occasional inputs into the story if he didn't like where... more>> it was going.

It was nice to see him getting more and more involved as he got stronger, and there were less threats that could harm him. Also, some might say he's a hypocrite, but that also felt like development for me, for example: MC was repulsed by strong people scheming against everyone below them, but as he himself got stronger and got different perspective on things, his attitude changed accordingly, and ranged from a necessity to save himself, to a leisure activity because it didn't really matter either way.

The biggest problem for me was just how mediocre everything else was, be it other characters, relationships or worldbuilding. Worldbuilding especially was barely existent, and even the crumbs that were there, got hyped a lot, but revealed way too late to even pay attention to it anymore.

Would give it 3.5, but since I can't, ill go with 4 for just how uniquely bland it is, since it turned cultivation into what feels like watching a mediocre reality tv show but from a perspective of a director who is making it. <<less

Well, I usually can't stand xianxia novels for long. The fact that I read this past chapter 700 is probably a sign that it's not as bad as the other.

First thing first, many xianxia cliches are missing from this novel. The MC is not a cringe character that challenges every powerful cultivator that he meets, he would always try to avoid fights whenever he can. There is a kind of a harem, but the MC doesn't go around and collect any beautiful women that he meets; romantic relationships are the... more>> lowest priority of the novel. The MC has a system that helps him, but outside that, there is no plot armor, no deus ex machina that will save the MC at the moment of problem.

Now for the bad things...

The MC is a coward... Yes, the author tried his best to portray him as a powerful cultivator that appeared timid but actually calculating. No, he's not; he's just a coward; he would always try to avoid any fight where he can't win within a breath. There was a time when the system tell him that he had a 60% chance of winning, and it scared the sh*t out of him. The system always gives him quests where he can usually choose between two options, to go outside and declare himself to the world or to stay hidden in his mountain and keep cultivating. The system would give rewards based on his choice; no matter how great the first option's reward is, he would always choose to hide and cultivate. Even if the world is in danger, if he think he can't win he will just run away with his mountain.

There is not much of a story. He always stays inside his mountain, and most of the story happens to side characters. At the beginning of the story, there are some plots, activities, fights, and traveling. But after he makes his Dao field in the heavenly Dao realm, there is not much story. He would cultivate for thousands of years, stop, find out what happened while he was cultivating, do one or two things, and then go back to cultivating for thousands of years.

The pacing is kinda weird. At the beginning of the story, there are a lot of things that happened in the world at all times. But after he start doing cultivation for thousands of years each, the world didn't change that much every time. There might be one or two thing changes in the world every time he cultivates; it's like the world is waiting for him cultivating before advancing the story. Of course, it's just bad writing.

The MC is a psychopath. Yes, this is the worse xianxia cliche there is, and unfortunately, the MC has it. The MC only cares about himself; the other he will only care if there is no danger to him. And he definitely doesn't care about the populace, they can all die and it doesn't bother him. There was a scene where the MC is confronting one of his students for working with an evil cultivator that's trying to destroy the world and kill everybody when the student tells him that he only help the evil guy because he could then spare the MC from the destruction, the MC actually feel happy about the student act, not giving any thought about the killing of all beings.

The psychopath thing is really a turn-off for me, that's where I stop reading. <<less

Truly top tier, as the title says. MC is truly the essence of low-key. He will never come out of his abode unless his safety is threatened. There is harem, but it's barely noticeable. There's pretty much no young master looking to get faced slapped by the MC. The MC's system is pretty unique. There's almost no plot hole, not any that I've seen. Mysteries are explained and not just left behind bc the author forgot. Overall, I truly recommend this novel if you're tired of reading mainstream Chinese crap.

Imagine every xianxia cliche possible. This novel has them all. But there's a twist.

As the story title says, the main character has a powerful potential and he is aiming to become immortal. That's it. The main character literally cultivates the whole novel. He doesn't have an exciting personality and he is probably autistic, so he almost never leaves his safe base. He doesn't need opportunities, he doesn't have to snatch treasures or compete, he always stays under the radar of powerful enemies until it's too late for them, because very... more>> few know about his existence and because his potential is so good.

Cliches are coming from the side characters. The main character calls them "protagonists" and they do what cliche xianxia protagonists do, face slapping, offending each other, acting arrogant, etc. This novel features a mountain of side characters and factions. The main character often follows their progress, and when not, the story is always told from a different perspective.

There won't be any drama or emotional moments making you cry or empathize. This is not that kind of story. Space and time -wise its scale is humongous, spanning billions of universes and millions of years. There is occasional love and death, but it's unimportant to the main character because he is incredibly narrow-minded and pragmatic. It is worth noting, though, that the main character admits his shortcomings and makes an effort to maintain his humanity by associating himself with the people he cares about, even though he openly rejects any idea of self-sacrifice.

Overall, it's a mundane and surprisingly realistic xianxia story. The key to enjoy it is to embrace the fact that the protagonist acts like a background character for most of the time. 4/5, a well-written novel with minor translation mistakes.

Update: the ending was actually good. Not as the usual abrupt Chinese-style termination with hundreds of loose threads, but a definite and well-explained conclusion that leaves you satisfied. <<less

A passable novel. My review will be somewhat inaccurate because I'm writing it a few months after stopping to read the novel (I was going to read on, but didn't feel like it, and now I write the review because I decided I won't pick it up), so please keep it in mind. It also means the review will be less detailed than I usually make my reviews, and depend on my impression of the novel more than facts (welp).

If you expected a typical power trip of a xianxia after... more>> a quiet start, you're neither right nor wrong. Or rather, you're right because it is like that, and you're wrong because it's merely how each arc goes, and not just the start of the novel...

Yes. The protagonist keeps a low profile until he's absolutely sure he can stomp everyone else around him. It's somewhat refreshing, and the comedic style makes it fun, but it gets boring in the long run (hence me stopping reading). Therefore, I advise not to binge it. It's not that the protagonist is bad; he's just too passive. I mean, it's understandable: the guy basically passed away due to a disease, so it makes sense that he has an obsession with longevity and life. Sadly, this obsession also becomes his personality to a large degree. In other words, it's a low-effort character—the author could've put much more effort into him. On the other hand, I remember people complaining about many protagonists saying they'd keep a low profile, but then making a big commotion for no reason, offending a bunch of people and whatnot. Well, you can rest assured: this protagonist actually keeps his word.

Other characters are, well, sometimes interesting and sometimes bland. The novel adopts a very interesting form of telling us about their adventures, and I really enjoyed it. It's only a pity that many characters are so nondescript that I forgot which was which or confused one for another. Native readers probably had less issues with that, but for us who do not know Chinese well, similar Chinese names are easy to confuse. Anyway, don't expect any characters with depth —which makes sense because it's a comedy.

Oh, I kind of like the harem here because it's not forced (probably, I don't remember for sure xD) and women don't just stay around the protagonist, but go about their own business instead. It feels more like modern-day relationships that way. I think there was also at least one that grew distant with the protagonist, and it was also nice, much more realistic than all those wish fulfillment harem novels out there.

With that said, the protagonist does lack some real companions on his quest for longevity, be they lovers or just friends. Yes, he has a load of disciples, but it just doesn't feel the same (and their master-disciple relationship feels a bit shallow in most cases anyway).

The plot is a bit boring, probably because it's a comedy, which entails rather simple plotlines. However, it's sufficient for a comedic novel, and like I already said, I really loved the way the novel tells the reader about the adventures of other characters. It's only a pity that they are a bit confusing due to inclusion of minor characters that are easy to forget. The humor carries it a lot, but it's repetitive in the long run.

The setting is nothing special. I honestly don't have much to say about it (partly because I forgot). If I remember correctly, it had no particular interesting points, but also no major problems. It's sufficient for a comedy.

So overall, this is an average novel. It has a fresh take on cultivation (the low-key protagonist part), though I feel like there likely are some novels like that (can't remember more than one other novel, actually), and its comedic tone is quite enjoyable. On the other hand, it gets boring in the long run, so while I can happily recommend it to kill some time, if you want a novel to enjoy for real, this one isn't it. <<less

Well, let's go:

The MC literally almost the entire novel isolated in that mountain of his, when he leaves, he kills anyone with a slap.

For anyone who wants to read a serious novel, I don't recommend this one.

But for me, who am not very picky, it was nice to read, I read more in my moments of boredom.

That's it :)

This novel is something you read if you want to burn time. It's exactly what the title and synopsis suggests. The MC spends all his time cultivating and rarely leaves his man cave. On the short occasions he does leave to face an enemy, the battle will end in like 5 seconds because the only reason he fights the enemy is because he already knows he one shots them.

The entire novel after a certain point is just a routine of what the MC does:

1. MC is cultivating

2. He reads his... more>> messages seeing all the times his acquaintances get their ass beat

3. An enemy shows up

3a. If MC is stronger then he 1 taps them

3b. If MC is weaker he runs away and hides

4. Repeat

There is a general overarching plot but it doesn't really matter because the even after 500 chapters the MC is still cultivating. I mean I respect the dedication but it really does get old after a while.

Like I enjoyed the beginning because the idea of training until you're overpowered is cool, but when you do it like the MC does, where you are training for actual millions of years and the only respite we get is the occasional fight that ends in less than a chapter you just start getting jaded.

So my rating is that this novel is at best a 4/5 only and if only you're just looking to read about a guy essentially being a spectator to all the chaos that is occurring around him. <<less

I've enjoyed reading the story up to this point but I'm concerned because the last chapter available for me to read (598) ends with a bit of racism. That stereotypical racism that appears in far too many web novels where they regard non-Chinese as being lesser humans.

I really hope it doesn't continue along that line. I was really enjoying the author's writing but this makes me feel like I won't be anticipating new chapters so much anymore.

Unexpectedly rather good, falls in the same sub-genre as the currently popular 'sign-in' or rather reincarnating into past immortal cultivation world with purely Chinese mythology, with OP cheats. Basically its a cheap, somewhat low quality book but its really good in what it tries to be. Think 'My senior brother is too steady!' but 30% lesser quality and a lot more straightforward.

This is honestly pretty solid 3, 5 stars book, not for its clever plot nor great characters or even any kind of amazing worldbuilding but mostly for it 'fastfoodliterature'... more>> -style entertainment value. Normally I would say time well spent but in this case its time well wasted. It's been fun reading this, at least so far. <<less

The novel positive points:-

  1. MC is very stubbornly determined to be very low-key, all the time. Will only take to fight others if he can divine an 'instant death' result. Because of this, MC makes very many sub-par decisions.
  2. Book of Misfortune + Heavenly Dao Spirit Stones + 999, 999, 999, 999, 999, 999, 999, 999, 999 years of lifespan.
  3. Su Qi (at least for the first 250 chapters or so).
  4. Dark Forbidden Lord (and Strange Deity?).
  5. The system's simulation field and derivative function.
  6. Black Hell Chicken, Dao Comprehension Sword, Yang Tiandong and a few others.
  7. Author set the pacing of the storyline just right. Read: VERY FAST! This novel definitely going to suck if it has TMW's or MGA's pacing.
Negative points:-

  1. Due of MC's very many sub-par decisions because of his stubbornness, the storyline itself is just average and extremely predictable. Plot armors abounds in this novel.
  2. Quite a lot of side characters here are practically useless, outnumbering those who are impactful like the ones I mentioned in point 6 above.
  3. The lack of harem as of what I have read. Plus, the romance really sucks. This is where MC can do better; he should start eating grass regularly for starters.
Why I give this 5 stars? Positive point number 2 alone carries this novel to the top for me. Positive point number 3, and number 4 that replaced it,... more>> also helps greatly. <<less

Lighthearted and funny cultivation novel, don't take it seriously! It's great for what it is. No real sense of tension ever, just tagging along to watch the MC continuously beat people up. Reminds me a bit of one punch man in that aspect.

Personally my favorite part of the novel is watching all his disciples and how they grow and interact lol. His grand disciples really surpassed his disciples so quickly 😂

It is a chill breakdown of the Xianxia genre.

What it does best is maintaining the relevance of the events and the characters even after the MC becomes OP. The excitement has never diminished. The story flows logically. Overall, it is a good read.

this novel is awful. I just finished reading my senior brother is too steady and got through about 70 chapters of this until I asked myself "why am I reading this?". I skimmed through looking for interesting chapters until the end but they don't exist. This novel has nothing to offer at all. His cultivation speed is so fast, it's almost nonsensical. He has no admirable attribute other than his looks. There is no interaction, no emotion. Honestly a joke of a novel compared to my senior brother is steady.... more>> It's even more unreadable once they start introducing characters from the heavenly court. This is at most one of those parody novels where the MC is OP and shits on the side characters that are reincarnations of powerful figures. <<less
