It’s cute short, slapstick comedy kinda story. The FL it’s seemingly silly and cute but actually there some kind of depth in her but because of the writing/plot there’s not much description. ML as always, op demon but conquer by this seemingly silly, cute girl. There’s alot slapstick comedy surrounding FL action especially the thoughts. But there’s also afew bits of aghast moments (which was quickly solve) Overall if wants to read light and fluffy romance. This is quite ok to read. This is such a light and good read lmao. As someone who just started reading cnovels, this one is not overwhelming to read, I also had a lot of good laugh from this one. Hoping to see this get adapted as drama.

I just absolutely love the MC, just a sweet cinnamon role 24/7. She has a very realistic set of views, in which not many of us might agree to. I also find myself questioning her decision, to sacrifice one to save thousands, isn’t it very worth it? But I was slapped awake, why should anyone sacrifice themselves for the so called greater good? The other people’s lives are lives, but what about the one sacrificed? This is one of the few stories where you find the protagonists of the original timeline to actually be deserving of their titles. No petty revenge needed. <<less

Really enjoyed it, was a fun novel to read. Struggled whether or not to give it a 4 or 5 stars mainly because it's actually a novel I enjoyed and some of the higher rated novels were not, but just decided to go with a 4 because that's how it felt for me. Loved the interactions with the ML and FL, it was cute and funny. That's probably the main reason why I liked this novel, I loved how their characters written and they don't feel bland at all. The... more>> plot is important too, of course and it was interesting, but imo without "well" written characters with a good portrayal of their personalities, it doesn't matter how intricate the plot is. If I can't connect with them, then I can't read it, which is just a personal issue I have with some of the higher rated novels.

I'll be honest though, at some point I was checking the chapters to see how long it would take to end because it felt like it had already reached that point at 60 (?) chapters I think, wanting to read a different novel, but I pushed my way through and hadn't struggled reading the last 10 chapters or so because the author was wrapping the story up in fluff. <<less

*****I give this 5 stars, dont know why it says 3. Cute short story with just the right amount of comedy, angst, and substance. I really enjoyed how the author didn't make the FL a Saint and even juxtaposed the OGFL/ML against the FL/ML. The story is definitely worth the read and does have similar feel as Guide to Capture the Black Lotus. Definitely a must read if you need a laugh.

Very solid 4 stars! Honestly a 4.5 if I could give half star ratings.

Light-hearted, quick-paced, and fun, The Villainess Won't Let the Main Leads was enjoyable from beginning to end. The angst is pretty low, most of the characters generally likable, and features a lot of classic C-Novel tropes that I like (ML who is cold to everyone but the MC, bickering couple, mysterious past/powers, slow (ish) burn romance). At just over 80 chapters (it ends on ch 78 but there are 3 extras), it's the perfect length for a... more>> light read compared to some of the longer C-Novels out there.

TRANSLATION

Very stellar from both translators. The first one had a great writing style (I saw the use of those SAT words lol), and the second picked up where they left off. Thank you both for the great translations! Both had very very minimal grammar mistakes and typos (thank you editors as well!) and the sentences flowed well. I also enjoyed their short comments at the end, especially during the sweet/spicy bits.

BACKGROUND & CHARACTERS

Shen Wanqing transmigrates into a novel she read back in college that features a cultivation couple's tragic ending (after a bunch of harem shenanigans play out). She comes to us as a second FL that originally wanted to grab the ogML's attention. Her mission is to get the couple together while eradicating the Demon Lord's threat. She kinda just wants to do her own thing. Of course, chaos ensues.

"I won't listen." Shen Wanqing said, "I am a bit rebellious."

Dammit. If it wasn't to live, who wanted to work so hard?

- Chapter 1

Our FL WQ is a fan of the salted fish lifestyle, which creates for hilarious moments. She's good at making excuses/lies on the spot and acts coquettish to our ML (the Demon Lord) when she can. Of course, he has a soft spot for her that grows bigger and bigger throughout the story. Hee.

The ML is pretty stereotypically written, but I still liked him. Tragic, mysterious past + hated by everyone + super strong and handsome = Xie Wuyan (ML). I like how patient and silly he acts around the FL while being a feared leader by others. Again, his character archetype is not novel, but the author writes him convincingly.

The ogLeads go through some great character growth. Both of them have very self-righteous ideals in the beginning but learn to start focusing on their own happiness and growth throughout the story (with the help of WQ's "teachings"). I enjoyed the author's exploration of what makes a person moral/immoral (is it sacrificing the life of one for the life of thousands? Who knows) and thought it added depth to an otherwise light-hearted story. And when I say light, it's pretty chill. The stakes don't feel that high, the cultivation part is pretty superficial, and the character relationships don't get too emotional/angst.

The system has a pretty small role to play, as it's portrayed as an automated computer that calculates risk rather than having its own personality. I guess its biggest role is as an obstacle to WQ's salted fish life, lol.

I heavily enjoyed the other side characters, from the talkative Xuanniao to the other second female leads who develop a bit of their own personality after WQ steers them away from the plot path. The demon generals were a hoot too!

Finally, what puts this story at a solid 4.5 in my books is that even though our main couple doesn't have toooo much angst, there are side characters that have great stories that pulled on my heartstrings. The author does a great job in developing their motives, which play into the overarching theme of morality and "doing what's right" vs "doing what's right for you". Maybe I just want the tragedy without seeing it in our beloved main couple, lol.

PLOT

At just under 80 chapters for the main plot, I would say the storyline is tight and compelling. There isn't too much extra fluff (other than the fluff we get from our romantic lines hehe) and each scene is written with care to how it ties into the overall story. The author does a great job in balancing the romance, adventure, action, (some) tragic elements, and character dynamics all in one novel.

Just two short AUs! One is a modern day CEO/secretary love story (lol) and the other is a Post-Apocalyptic survival story.

OVERALL

This light and sweet story embodies what I enjoy about C-Novels. Although the characters may be a bit cliche, the main couple's gradual romance is endearing, the plot is quick-paced, and the adventure was an enjoyable ride from beginning to end.

TL;DR Read this if you're into:

  • A quick-witted FL who's not afraid to be shameless, with
  • A tsundere, overpowered ML who only has eyes for the FL.
  • Nice development from side characters
  • Funny supporting cast
  • Laugh out loud dialogue with sweet moments that'll have you giggling and kicking your feet, and
  • A happy ending!

I can only say its a roller coaster of emotion. A good light read. It will be nice if there is a pov of the ML. We can only see/glimps of him thru the FL.
Moral of the story? For me, I think, sometimes its okay to be selfish!!

My first time rating coz u cannot access links now without an account in NU but lol this Deserves a higher rating TBH, went to emotional roller coaster here but in a good way and I liked so much the the humor on the first chapters and got sad with the backstory of each arcs. Not so short not too lengthy this was a great read with Cultivation theme. Fun and mostly light-hearted. The core of the story is the female MC that is something of a comedian mixed with an adorable fiesty cat. There are more serious bits here and there, but mostly it is banter and adventure. The main couple is pretty cute, and even the secondary characters get to shine a bit.

The transaltion by Second Life is about 3.7/5 and Wanderer gets about 3.1/5. So not the best of translations, but mostly comprehensible. Is it love at first sight? No, but you can tell ML has a soft spot for MC. She is not OP... partly since she has some kind of hidden special skill but it consumes her soul so... 🤷

The weird thing is that MC, a modern transmigrator, can kill people without care. She's a bit heartless, plus the world to her is in a novel, but killing like that suggests she's originally a sociopath. Not a very big deal for me tho as she's not unreasonable and still conversing normally.

4.3 lmao, their problem solving is so uniqe our FL id kind of sick in the head.. But not that sick.. This is really funny.. But when it come to drama and sad story it also not lose, sadly, the extra.. Is just entertainment and don't have any link with the main story, for me I still feel it a bit rushed in some area of conflict that's why I can't give it more than 4.3

The journey was good, and the storytelling a bit more compelling than the usual chinese webnovel. My only gripe would be that the ending felt anticlimactic, like after I had read the climax of the main plot, I hadn't realized I'd read the climax until after a few chapters of pure fluff. 😂 Solid 5 stars because it kept me interested til the end and the couple was entertaining. I'm with the other commenters in loving how the OG-FL and OG-ML were really good characters.

I love this webnovel so much T0T/

Sometimes silly, sometimes sad, it's a fluffy, no-brain kind of heart-warming plot. There's no intrigue or politics, so you don't have to think too hard about remembering who's in whose faction.

The system consistently threatens and hurts Shen Wanqing; it's essentially a sentient shock collar, which is devastating sometimes. Whereas some systems, do warn a host of plot/character/mission deviation, they aren't usually doling out punishments or actually leading their hosts down an undesireable path. The system on SWQ, however, is cruel.

While it's obviously trying to keep the main plot afloat and save the OG FL and ML, it's main missions are to kill Xie Wuyan and get SWQ to sub in for the OG FL as a willing sacrifice. When it fails, it goes dormant for a while as it recalculates its schemes like the worst GPS you'd never wanna own.

The system is a relatively hidden secondary antagonist if you didn't pay much attention like me because, like, I KNEW it wanted to kill XWY and sacrifice SWQ, but I had no clue that it was to such an extent. SWQ's almost final FU moment would have made a fantastic tragic ending, but I wouldn't have been to stop crying.

Y'all, it was so desperate and miserable at that point. SWQ and XWY are constantly being pursued by the phyisical and meta-physical, and it honestly broke my heart. It really felt like the whole world was against them except for the OG FL and ML who were the only one's on their side (to the point that the OGs' clans disowned them).

I'm not a fan of tragedic endings, so I'm glad this ended on a very happy note.

The character dynamics are hilarious. I always love a shameless FL and ML with a bickering couple vibe. They are so. Frickin. Adorable!!!

The translation flows really well, so no complaints there. Really happy they translated the author's notes too! Glad this trend is catching on!

All in all, I highly recommend this webnovel if you want a quick, no-brainer, sweet and fluffy piece with the occasional bites of bitterness~ <<less

A good bingeworthy xianxia novel.

The trope of the naive female protagonist and op male protagonist is used but I'll give a pass for this one. As the author didn't overdo the dynamic of the duo like other novels.

For once, the OG ML and OG FL were good persons. In other stories, these characters often become villains but here we see their complex relationship with Shen Wanqing.

... more>> There were 2-3 arcs which were very tragic and made me cry a little.

The ending may been a bit anticlimactic for me. So that's that.

There’s nothing really remarkable or game-changing about this novel. MC is as useless and weak as many other MCs/FL who rely on the ML to get anything done. However, I still had fun ready the novel and laughed out loud at many different moments. 99% of the plot is about the FL and ML and the other 1% is about the side characters. I do feel like the FL and ML get too much focus in the story and that other characters should get more room to shine but overall... more>> it's not that big of an issue for me. MC only really connects with the ML and all other relationships come off as fake or forced because of how little is put into them.

Her being weak isn’t really a problem, it is kinda annoying but the novel shows that she’s getting stronger so hopefully, she’ll be able to stand up for herself and not have the ML come to save her every 5 chapters. Even though she was the strength of a baby chick the FL is pretty smart and handles each situation with ease and at least knows how to save herself until the ML comes. The author also gave FL the "special blood" troupe so she would have a reason to make the ML drawn to her, and a good excuse to put FL in danger every 2 seconds. The ML is your typical ml, cold-hearted and only cares about the FL and maybe his bird. He's boring on his own but when paired with the FL he's pretty funny and entertaining.

The og FL and ML are both good people and are enjoyable however the author doesn’t give them a lot of screen time and their interactions are scarce and they only serve as a means to put the MC in danger and give her motivation to continue embarrassing herself. Wish they had more of a relationship with the MC than the superficial one that's currently in place. Protagonists and MC are supposed to have a brother-sister relationship but I don't feel that in any way. In conclusion, the novel isn’t special but it's a fun read if you are bored. <<less
