After inheriting the Xuandu Temple, Chu Yue descended from the mountain to look for the sect’s disciples. An upper class couple suddenly came up to her, claiming that she was their long-lost daughter, and that she had a childhood engagement.

However, her brand new fiancé despised her, “You’re not even worthy of being compared to Tongtong!”

Chu Tong acted pitiful: “Little sister, it’s all my fault…”

Her parents and the rest of the world: “Tongtong is also a victim, be more forgiving.”

Disciple 1, the handsome billionaire Ning Ke: “What made you think you’re a match for our Sect Master?”

Disciple 2, the famous actress, who happens to be a seductive fox demon, Jiu Zhao: “You’re just a cuckoo pretending to be a phoenix.”

Disciple 3, the cold and merciless leader of the Supernatural Affairs Office, Xue Dongyang: “Disrespecting our Sect Master? Take them down.”

Oh, so that’s where all the disciples were.

In the day, Chu Yue tells fortunes, fixes feng shui and exorcises malicious spirits. At night, she helps ghosts come to terms with their ghastly fates. Her life since leaving the mountain is so fulfilling that she has already forgotten about her ‘real’ family. By the time she remembered to check on them, the Chu family had already fallen.

Chu Yue’s fans: “Sect Master, you don’t have to bother with low-lifes like them, just focus on your career! We’ll handle the rest!”

The downfall of the world, a black-haired demon god clad in red, holds Chu Yue’s hand bashfully, “Please take it easy on me, Sect Master.”

Chu Yue: “…no thank you, is it too late to return to the mountain?”

Strong angelic-looking Sect Master with a black yet soft heart X Demonic-looking but innocent and shy Demon God

Somewhere between a 1 star and 2 star it's thanksgiving so I'm being generous and giving it 2 stars.

The story gets killed by the writing and the plot. The author's writing style is at best described as impenetrable. There were times I thought Mo Jo Jo Jo from the powerpuff girls was the author. Just an endless repetition of things that didn't need to be said in the first place, weren't interesting and contributed little to the story. Very painful reading indeed. If you are going to do a Mary... more>> Sue x Gary Stu story the two of them can just do things that impress there's no need to say over and over how great they are.

The plot was really painful, which was a shame. There was an opportunity to do some real fun things with it but it got lost
Spoiler

The fake daughter was actually a spiritual cultivator who had been in conflict with the MC for many lives and this was just one take at trying to get even with the MC. When I saw that and then saw how little was done with it, I could have ripped chunks out of my desk. Such a waste of a great idea

[collapse]
The family interaction with the exception of the fake daughter is nearly zero. The way she and her family interact should be called the opposite of communication. Just a very unsatisfying family interaction especially for a switched at birth story, doubly so with the setup that this one had.

The second plot arc is a series of Scooby Gang mysteries and their overall arc. The problem is you get what's happening around chapter 40 which leaves another 80+ chapters of the Scooby Gang ripping the masks off ghosts and the reader falling asleep.

Overall just a shame, it had potential. <<less

The most 3/5 read I’ve encountered in a while. In all honesty this story wasn’t very good or very bad. It was just dull.

The MC was dull because she was pretty much indifferent to everything to the point that it was hard to root for her because it didn’t seem like she didn’t really have any worldly desires. The only thing she was really into was reviving the temple through making money but even then I don’t think she worked that hard at it. I think the story could’ve been... more>> a lot funnier if the author made her more of a money-grubber like the MC in Believe It Or Not I’ve Already Caught You. That aside, the nearly episodic ghost cases she dealt with were also pretty boring. I’ve read quite a few stories with ghosts now and the ghosts in this story were the most meh for lack of better words. The ghosts here weren’t entertaining, funny, or even scary. They were merely tools to show how OP the MC was.

The ML was dull because the unfolding of his backstory was really confusing. I read about half of the story and still didn’t really get what kind of entity he was. Like was he a demon? Did he have 2 souls? And how is his past related to the MC’s past? I mean I thought he was cute with how clingy he was to the MC and how jealous he got when she’d pay more attention to her disciples but I because I didn’t understand their shared history I couldn’t completely be sold on the romance.

The antagonists were cliche and I only enjoyed watching them get face slapped.

The aspect that confused me the most about this story was the live broadcasting because the MC regularly dealt with supernatural things while on camera and I didn’t get how that was allowed. Aren’t there usually rules against letting the public know about supernatural stuff?

Maybe the story gets better in the latter half but as of now I think I’ll have to pass. <<less

Note: the main text ends at c113; there’s a gore warning for this novel but it’s mostly just typical things you’d expect from a horror/ghost novel, nothing too much.

The nove starts with immature writing, but it’s really worth it. The plot is interesting and well constructed, the relationship between Chu Yue and Han Shaoshang is specially well done and charming, the supporting cast is lovable and well constructed, and Chu Yue is rightfully OP, as the summary implies.

The relationship drama between Chu Yue and her family is not as easily... more>> solved as it implies in the summary, but it’s also solved around 1/2-3/4 of the novel so it’s fine. Some of the antagonists are very s*upid, but there’s also explanations for it.

Overall, it’s quite good, and the highlight is definitely the fun and lovable characters and the intrigue of past and present live. (BTW, the summary IS right, Han Shaoshang is so cute, I can’t)

MTL has some stumbles here and there but it’s comprehensible, but I’d recommend wait for the translation if you’re not used to MTL-ing since it can become quite confusing. <<less

Honestly the novel was not bad! Not bad at all. MC is a very cool, charismatic and charming person. She doesn't let people's words get to her and I like that. When people were supporting the fake daughter and her parents, she very quickly called them out and came out with evidence. She likes face slapping people (not literally) with her talent and that was fun to read. I also love finding a novel with a FMC and a horror theme because trust me it's really hard to find these.

What... more>> I did not like about this novel is how much they were stretching out the fake daughter's role as the sub- villain. Like
Spoiler

bro died and was revived again by the main villain to continue pestering the MC.

[collapse]
. That was my breaking point. I couldn't handle reading this novel anymore.

Also I love LOVE soft MLs who like supporting their queens but why is the ML in the novel so...... forgettable ? I dont know how to explain it but it was fine when
Spoiler

he was this friendly neighbour who occasionally comes to MC's house and cooks for her. That was sooo adorable. However the minute he became the vessel for that evil god guy I lost interest. Like stick to one script you know.

Consistency is key.

Anyway I won't continue this no more but I really love this genre with a FMC and I really hope that I can find more novels like this. <<less

I don't know why this is getting low rating, personally find this quite a gem. I really love how the author use the cliche switch at birth element to hook you up and then throw the supernatural elements to retain you.

Although there are some plots that I would have love the author to expand further but as it is, everything is tied properly. The characters stayed true to their personality while at the same time growing, with some even quite flesh out, especially Ning Ke, the rich disciple who although... more>> known as aloof and domineering in the business industry, was not afraid to admit he is scared of ghost and cry like a baby.

The relationship between MC and the other supporting male characters were also well done. It's quite refreshing to read a proper male-female friend relationship without any romance or ambiguous attach yet still growing closer. I'm particularly talking about Wei Zhou (?) And MC. Sure, some did tease and gossip that they are in relationship but as it is in regular male-female friends it never alarmed them just annoyance. And maybe it's because there's a great ML too but you could genuinely feel their friendship, and how they are just two people with different interest but don't mind hanging around with each other.

If I have to summarize the story:

Spoiler

A story about a human cultivator transcending to godhood and a born God (?). Their road should have never crossed yet due to a tragedy they did. And now they must fix it.

As you can see, this could have almost been another Romeo and Juliet story but thankfully HE.

The story starts after how many years from the tragedy, with MC now reincarnating. Switch at birth comes in this segment. As I mentioned this was merely used as a hook, so this isn't the main focus of the story. However the author did best to keep this element.

[collapse]

I guess if you are here for the switch at birth drama, romance and whatnot, then you would be disappointed as this focus more on supernatural side, the rest are merely backgrounds.

I actually read this for the drama but honestly the supernatural part and the comedy around it just made me stay. The author has an orthodox way of dealing with the plot. By that I mean, it wasn't afraid to cut to the point and go out of the plot when it goes "cliche".

Spoiler

Exhibit A:

Ghosts: prepares to roleplay what happen them.

MC: Not this again. 🙄

[collapse]

It's corny but hey I take it.

Another thing I like is how the author manage MC's power or the power building of the story. As it never wavers the fact that MC's cultivation is high, and so instead of making MC weak or have some sudden limitations, it just shows us how it feels like having an high lever player being forced to take on a low level boss. And when MC does encounter a stronger enemy or is unable to determine the other party's strength, she does what most people do: don't attack, find its weakness. Etc. Not at all jumping around.

Going back the ghost hunting arcs are really cool. Although there are certain elements that continues but each one have different plot and mechanics that still worth the read. <<less
