Interesting, not a transmigration. Not a male to female gender bender for no reason either. MC was a man, a mercenary, that does missions and requests for money. That he would blow off on gambling and alcohol. Still, he does his missions and he does them well, to the point, even nobles know of him.

one day, when he came to the witch for another mission. He was requested to protected the cursed youngest princess of the kingdom. However, because the princess lives alone in a tower with no protection, he... more>> can’t serve her as a man. So he has to take a potion that would turn him into a woman. Unknown how long it would last. At first he was reluctant but nothing 4 million gold can’t solve.

her maid skills are sh*t but she’s trying.

Spoiler

Although there was one chapter where the crown prince (who made the request to protect the princess) talked about the MC. Thanks to her many years as mercenary, she gained the reputation as Archne, a spider hybrid that did everything for money and multilated her enemies until they’re unrecognizable due to her main weapon being sharp wires.

the prince says

“For when it comes to loyalty to her master, there is none in this nation who can match that spider.”

A fanatical, borderline suicidal level of loyalty that would unhesitatingly follow if her master ordered her to slit her own throat.“

im curious why, considering she never had a master before? I thought money was above everything for Mc? Oh well, I hope it gets expanded upon

[collapse]

recommended. Love an airhead maid who made a ham sandwich for her master after slicing off an assassin’s head right before her eyes. <<less

It's been so long since I encountered a good story in a gender-bending yuri novel, especially in Korea. The story is good as well as the pacing for it. The character so far for me its good-written for both the princess and the maid herself.

Nevertheless, please give it a try. You never knew you would fall in love with this novel.

It's about 2.5, I'd say? Some of it is because it feels like it's ending early rather than being planned to end, IMO, the pacing of the story so far doesn't seem like it fits with the listed end chapter (77). The author really likes drawing from different stories and mythologies, expect to see a lot of references (or odd name drops).

Premise is, MC is a notorious mercenary who gets his identity, body, etc changed by a witch so he can take on a job to protect the cursed princess... more>> as her sole maid (maybe should have learned to cook first...). The royal curse stays with the affected person until they die, at which point it will jump to the youngest family member alive. This means some parties have a vested interest in killing the princess for politics while others need her to stay alive to contain the curse, and changes (like new births) can shift these stances. That is actually an interesting story tool to work with, I liked the possibilities of it. Long story short, in the process of this job MC and princess get closer and seek to understand each other more, with MC deciding its his/her new goal to free her of her curse.

The story isn't terrible, there's some pretty good sections, but there are also a lot of loose ideas. Some parts seem to just be to add details that don't mesh well, or have a reason, or aren't followed up on. Like, MC is a scoundrel for hire who goes job to job and only cares about gambling and alcohol, but is also famed for rabid loyalty? There's a rival assassin who had the same body thing happen because...? Does the church have a stake in this? Backstories and other info haven't covered enough to fill in a lot of the gaps so far, and since it it ends at c77 I don't think it has enough time to develop anything too much further.

So, the translation. The TL to Eng is great but as the chapters go on the word choices start getting weirder. Putting it honestly, it's like whoever is doing it lately is trying really hard to sound as intelligent as possible. If there's an option to pick the most pointlessly academic word, they'll take it more often than not. Two sentences picked almost at random from skimming recent chapters, for example:

    • Rife with trepidations yet unable to disregard its tantalizing implications regarding Princess Sibylla's fate, the chamberlain felt compelled to honor the directives.
    • The two, who customarily eschewed superfluous interaction or discourse by communicating solely through Dorothy as an intermediary, now found themselves inadvertently startling one another whenever their trajectories converged within the confines of the cramped domicile during Dorothy's absence.
Bloviating sesquipedalian loquaciousness doesn't make it harder to read, or whatever the goal is, it just hurts the flow. <<less

Ok so right off the bat, phenomenal translation... like the thing doesn't read like those mindless novels but like a proper English one iykwim

The plot doesn't have much but it's cooking something good with what it's got

I really look forward to the romance that's been teased till now...i have hopes it won't be a slow burn with the way it's progressing, yeah we have a tsundere on our hands as of now

There has been a decent amount of action as well, though most of it was skipped and basically told... more>> the aftermath off from other perspectives

All in all.... op book and I recommend even if you've not run out of books (like most of us here) <<less

So far it has been a fairly interesting story.

MC is having to learn how to be a maid & how to do things for the princess with what appears to be no training for such tasks, besides MC's ability to protect. Trying to help bring new experiences to the princess.

At the same time the princess is having someone that is actually trying to be close to her, that others would distance themselves from her before. So she is also having some interactions with the MC that is effecting her on... more>> a personal level. <<less

Honestly in NU ratings should be like 4.3-4.4

The author has a great story going on, drawing inspirations from classic French literature and some of French revolutions period history. In some cases the characters pop out from said literature and history.

However, the author didn't handled it well, which is not surprising when you have to juggle characters from The hunchback of Notre Dame, Little prince, French history and Greek mythology.

Some characters fate is explored well, some just pop up as if to fill in the quota of obliged references. The main... more>> antagonist for example has barely been expanded upon. This makes you question the what and why of the character.

The story surrounding the protagonist is strong tho, very strong. In the end it did leave me with a smile. It is satisfying enough.

The translation went bonkers towards the second half of the story tho, as another review pointed out. You essentially need C2 English vocab on a good day to be able to read this without consulting google.

Good story with grand ambitions, ultimately held back by those very ambitions. <<less
