The Husky and His White Cat Shizun

Description

Mo Ran thought becoming Chu Wanning’s disciple was a mistake.

His shizun was really too much like a cat while he himself was a dumb pup who’d only slobber and wag his tail.

Dogs and cats were different by nature; originally, the dumb pup didn’t want to reach his furry paws out to that cat.

At first he thought, dogs should be with dogs, like his shixiong, beautiful and tame like a cute Japanese Spitz, and the two of them together would surely be a match made in heaven.

Yet, after having died and reborn, after having lived two lives, the one he hauled back each time to his den in the end was always the one he couldn’t stand at first: that snow-white kitty shizun.

!!! WARNING: If you are planning on reading, I advise you to wait until the translations have all come out (there are like 300 or something chapters overall). The translations are slow but that is because the translator is really thorough and amazing with their work which makes it so enjoyable to read. There is MTL but a lot of it gets lost in translation which spoils the story so I decided to wait for the translations to come out, even though my heart breaks being unable to know what happens next (╥﹏╥)

This novel has eaten away at my emotions to the point I feel numb but I am completely in love with the whole story and the characters since the author has written them in... more>> so much depth. The MC & ML are not the generic fluffy kind who are perfect or understand each other, our MC himself has many shortcomings but its who he is and it makes him so unique.

I look forward to when the rest of the chapters are out! (although that will probably be a while). <<less

Great story! Awesome world building, a lot of interesting, painful, heart-rending plot twists, plenty of character growth for the MC and ML, side characters that aren't one dimensional caricatures. And a really good translation to boot.

Warning: mind the tags & the author's warnings. Gore, Cannibalism, Non-Con are just a few of the horrible things that are done to/by/around the main characters.

A light tragedy with a solid ending. Everyone tortures each other, especially the protagonists. The novel leads like a cliche, but eventually reveals... not all is as it seems. There are hints scattered throught if you read closely enough. I guessed wrongly~!

This gives an air of mystery to the novel that really impressed me. It helps that most of the characters are well fleshed out with believable motivations. Totally worth a read. Your emotions will go up and down, but not to the point of being abused. The story was... more>> a great journey of taboo magics, practices, and love. <<less

Be warned that this novel is angsty af. There's a lot of death in the last one quarter and I felt so sad after reading it...

I loved the main couple's dynamic. They're so cute and I just wish we could have slice of life forever! I can't get enough of Cwn and Moran but unfortunately we don't get enough of them being happily in love in the novel. Also Moran is thirsty af all the time.

The character growth arc is this novel's strongest point. Moran's slowburn growing feelings for Cwn... more>> and the changes in his attitude and understanding are such a pleasure to read. They feel so natural and organic.

I read this in the original Chinese and I didn't totally like her writing style. Also, I felt that the last one quarter was a little too ambitious. <<less

Um, wow. I binged the whole series (minus all the extras) in just over a week. Even dealing with subpar MTL in the second half, it was a great time. No sleep, no regrets.

I came into this story expecting a lot of terrible and sad angst, and I was pleasantly surprised that it actually had a lot of funny and fluffy moments. You will genuinely fall for the main characters and you will become very invested in their wellbeing. I also felt like there were a lot of interesting insights... more>> on morality.

This was my first novel by this author. I'm definitely a fan now, and I look forward to reading her other works. <<less

“MY HEART HAS STILLED, and my thoughts turned to ash / Yet unexpectedly, the light of spring shines through the cold night. / Could it be that the heavens pity the blade of grass in the secluded valley? / Yet I fear that the world is unpredictable and full only of hardship.” - erha, meatbun

Love the plot, love the angst (just the right amount), love the characters. The official English translation is being published, but I've finished reading the Chinese version.

My only comment would be that it's looong (350 chapters in total), and draggy in some parts. But, it's all necessary for the plot, world and chemistry building. Kudos to Meatbun. If you have a few weeks to spare, enjoy angst, love ML obsession, wants smut, and need to know that everything is going to be okay (in the end), this is it for... more>> you. <<less

Highly recommend Erha for its beautiful writing and heavy angst. Although I'm sure it's much more beautiful and poetic in the original language, the official translation (Seven Seas, Translation: Rynn & Jun) does a great job of conveying a sense of sadness and forlornness, especially in the first volumes. Certain passages evoked a recollection of emotions within me, similar to those experienced by the characters. The power of a phrase to evoke a deep feeling within the reader is quite prevalent within this story.

The protagonist Mo Ran is portrayed as... more>> a highly flawed human who strives to rectify past wrongs given a new chance. I find his character, reactions, and thoughts believable (although certainly not relatable). Similarly, although I do not understand Chu Wanning's personality on a personal level, he is as well, believable in his actions, being consistent throughout.

The plot is beautiful and complex and best enjoyed without any spoilers. The author includes from the beginning, fleeting mentions of the character's devotion that may escape the reader on the first read but will become evident on a second pass.

Although the story may not be for everyone, in my case, it made me stay up until 4 am, viciously reading for the first time, being gripped by angst and sadness and wishing that it could have all turned out differently. There are highs and lows (sadness and happiness) for both the characters and the reader.

Please read the tags before embarking on this journey, as it does contain some heavy depictions and mentions of harmful acts. <<less

I want to read but chapter 2 caught me off when he scar the boy face, for some rebirth character you can understand why even if they were a villain they still deserve a second chance but definitely not for this guy I feel like reading a s*x offender criminal life history well it's probably the main plot. Not even reading more than 3 chapter I already feeling bad for Shizun that 32 reborn guy doesn't deserve any tiny of affection at all from his Shizun.

I absolutely love this novel. I laughed, died from embarrassment and cried my eyes out to this beautiful masterpiece. I felt like all the random pieces of information were perfect foreshadowing for later events. I picked up on them since I've read so many novels on here thinking "Oh that random bit of information seems odd, might be important later".

Over all, the MC really is a dumb, lovable husky and ML really is an aloof white cat Shizun!

I honestly did not expect this novel to be excruciatingly good. I have heard that this novel had too much angst and some bad elements unique to yaoi.

But the plot is good. The first four arcs like caidie, jinchengchi, bird ppl arc and the visit to he'll arc had great narrative and character development. The Moran of the current life is a beautiful and loving soul and the budding romance between him and chufei while he attempts to right all his wrong doings and starting again were absolutely endearing. All... more>> the little changes makes you appreciate him more. This is definitely needed because the appearance of taxian will immediately spur hatred in the hearts of readers. His actions are unpardonable. I love danmei but I hate coercion and non consent. This is not a light matter but I think the author took it too far. Because of the hatred that runs deep for taxian Jun, the plot and the sweetest version of Moran are lost in translation.

The novel is very good for most of the time but the constant switch between the memories of previous and current lives of Moran gave me a headache. I had to reread some chapters again just to understand what the heck was going on. Also 80% of these memories were non consent r%₹e which was extremely unsettling. If only the flashback weren't mind numbing and cheap.

When we weren't accosted by the pe*verted flashbacks, the author rained the plot with sadness so much that I even sympathized with the villain. Between Morans back story or chu wanning back story I can't say which is brutally hurting than the other. Even hua binan background makes you wonder if he deserved his misfortune. This novel gives is hard take on the cruelty in the society and how ppl are narrow minded people manipulate Justice to fulfil their greed and hatred. Moran life was so sad, the society failed him miserably, Justice was lost and all he was left with the misery of losing his mother, falsely accused beaten and falling in to poverty. The ppl around him are fickle and heart less but Moran is expected to have a pure heart and not take revenge on those who wronged him. His redemption arc is heart wrenching. Moran is a green flag because when he was reborn he realized that he would rather have a weapon like tianwen to protect the weak than become a despot and lose himself in the name of power. He is a selfless guy who would go to any lengths to protect someone who even as much as smiles at him. After everything he

hadn't it been for this, would Moran of the previous life turned out to be as sweet, selfless and generous like MO zongshi? When the zhenlong chess arc at Jiao mountain arc began, I felt that the pace of the story cannon balled into mediocrity.

so moran is a nangong?. Cant the main character not have special parents for once

Also this was around the same time, the memories started to get redundant and annoying. We could have done without these. Some memories added to the plot while others were just p*rno.

i get it that chu wanning is a powerful shou and is one of the few of the capable persons in the entire novel, but did his real identity started to make this already somewhat unbearable story more ridiculous.

Towards the final arc I got restless because taxian Jun started to annoy me more. The dude refused to see reason and did not deserve shizun at all. There were some powerful ppl including a very powerful and an almost God like

but everyone were scurrying like c*ckroaches at the sight of zombies and chess pieces. The tianyin pavilion punishment arc was heartbreaking but I can't understand why Moran suddenly became penitent while the person he loved was missing.

The final arc was action packed and fast paced. This author has an uncanny ability to make every little scene gloomy than before. I think I was able to put up with all the crazy plot twists the author threw at me
Spoiler

whether it was shimeis betrayal or his redemption but I still wanna know why did the author hate the xue family so much. Did xue meng deserve such a low blow? Xue zhengyong deserved better. He was a wonderful man. Towards the end I just gave up because the author put icing on the cake. Moran is like a butterfly boned beauty and can just comeback to life just like that? And taxianjun can visit Moran consciousness every 3 days? I was totally done with this

[collapse]

All said and done this was a good novel. It was a good roller-coaster ride of emotions. Taxian Jun never leaves a good taste but Moran makes is worthwhile to read this novel. I only wished it had a bittersweet ending instead. I don't regret reading this though 😊 <<less

Aaaaaa *crying sobbing throwing up*

As a sad*st looking for angst I approve 👍

Lets talk a bit more about stuff other people be discussing:

... more>> Redemption: mo ran suffered constantly on screen off screen since ch 100 to almost the end

Author gave a very proper plot wise logical excuse for his dog behaviour.

+ Multiple deaths

Ok let's talk about the amazing plot:

Several arcs bound by small mysteries that seamlessly weave into plot twists and revelations of behind the curtain villains, amazing af

But that's not all— there's a bigger villain controlling the puppets through two lifetimes— even more amazing.

They have their own sob story- which, however much I vowed to not forgive them, I still cried in heartache for them.

This story has too many people with regrets- too many who would wish to have another chance at life like Mo Ran did.

Side characters: 10/10

Plot and pain: 20/10

Ok only one problem I have: BEING BLUEBALLED THE WHOLE NOVEL OMG

I don't have balls but maaaannnnnnn I sweaaarrr urghhhhh these two would stare at each other- have the best time imagining s*x and then do NOTHING. Oh god. I was so frustrated 😭😭 just- f*ck. Please. All these tags and I didn't get a s*x scene till the extras- and that was vanilla as hell. I wanna gut the author so bad. Sometimes I couldn't even pay attention to the plot because the s*xual tension was so high I just wished they would do it man <<less

So when everyone always talking about how tormenting and how painful Meatbun’s ERHA is,
I want to share something – something like a fresh dewdrop in our misty morning...
So, why do people like ERHA?
For me, it was that 1825 pieces of paper... That Dazzling Fireworks in the sky saying -

“Disciple Mo Ran,

Congratulate master for coming out of seclusion.”

How romantic a gift can be... ?
I can read this book over and over again just for that 1825 pages letter...

Spoiler

“The words were squeezed into a small ball and were passionately flowing on the paper,
wishing that Chu Wanning could see the Thorn Flower in the northern part of Mo Bei, the misty mountain, and hide the dessert in the paper, waiting for Chu Wanning to wake up and share it with him.
The lines of small characters did not stop from beginning to end. There were no provocative words, nor did they write anything sad. They only recorded every brilliant moment in the past five years, and he only shared what was good with him.”

[collapse]

and

Spoiler

“He saw Mo Ran in the handwriting, which went from childish to tall and straight, and from tall and straight to handsome and elegant.”
“From the first letter to the last, he seemed to see Mo Ran walk from sixteen to twenty-two years old. His figure slowly grew, and his expression gradually became deeper.”
But every day, he would sit in front of his desk and write a letter to him.”

[collapse]

Is there anything else that I need to keep going reading this so-called pathetic novel?
For me... It was not really a trauma,
rather it was a long journey with a lonely trapped man.

this was my second novel ever after reading tgcf. I've seen people either love it or hate 2ha. I personally enjoyed the novel very much, more than i’d like to admit. My favourite part of the novel was definitely from chapter 98-210. It was full of fluff and cute romance stuff going on with chu wanning and mo ran which I loved a lot and would definitely re-read it every once in awhile. However after that it’s just non stop angst and plot twist until the very end, which isn’t... more>> a bad thing at all but can be tiring. I’m happy meatbun managed to give us a happy ending. Also the extra chapters were amazing!! It was definitely refreshing after all that heartbreak and angst.

overall great novel, I would recommend. <<less

2ha is one of those hate it or love it novels. I loved it, because I'm a great fan of angsty stories, non-linear storytelling and master/disciple romance. Just check out the trigger warnings before reading: there's a lot of death and s*x, among a variety of other crazy themes. 2ha is nonetheless a riveting tale of forbidden love and shifting identities cocooned in an intricate narrative with mixed timelines. But its greatest strength lies in its characters and their unraveling.

I will bring up the series as a whole, so spoilers... more>> alert.

The protagonist, Mo Ran, is a rabid dog. He's sarcastic, surly and very unlikable, and that's fine with me. Saying that since his life was tragic, it's okay for him to be an a**hole, would destroy his character in my opinion. I love Mo Ran precisely because of how painfully human he is. He loves too hard and cares to much, he's easily deceived by appearances and utterly broken when he realizes the reality was quite different. He's only redeemed by a kind of miracle, and this miracle's name is Chu Wanning. God, I love that character who embodies everything that's beautiful and poetic. He was carved out of wood from a divine tree, his name means "evening peace" and his holy weapons are named after the works of famous Chinese poets. He uses a willow vine as a golden whip and that's freaking hot when he punishes Mo Ran with it! He can't ignore others' misfortunes, he's weak to affection and kicks ass all the time. Chu Wanning is my favorite character of the book, one of my favorite of all. The revelation that he was protecting his disciple all along will shock no one. As Mo Ran gradually realizes that Shi Mei ingénue persona was an elaborate act and that he was heading for darkness rather than light, he also realizes that only Chu Wanning was preventing him from being swallowed up by the ultimate black. While the constant reversal of innocence and evil throughout the story doesn't leave room for nuance, the story is crazy good and intense. Things happen, terrible, heartbreaking and occasionally demented things. 2ha is a story that goes beyond redemption and forgiveness to embrace the destructive effects of passion, and that's why I love the series. In fact, I wish Meatbun would have been bold enough to leave out the twist with the flower of long hatred, but I do love the way she wove the vegetal imagery throughout the story. I'm a big sucker for floral symbolism and Chu Wanning is some kind of Daphne in my head canon.

The only gripe I have with 2ha is that it's just too damn long and plain slow. I love Meatbun unreservedly, but I think a couple hundred pages could have been cut out. Not the explicit parts, though. Meatbun's s*x scenes are pulse-racing, super cruel and seriously grotesque at times. There's just something exhilarating about reading a book so unapologetically p*rnographic considering the actual censorship in China. <<less

Keeping this short: I’ve read past chapter 43 (where book 1 ends) for the web translation, but am rereading the official English translation of book 1. So far it’s really good, there’s not a lot of world building info dump. The prologue is actually one of the best ones I read in a while, and really pulls you in. The mission stories (when they roam out of the sect) are actually really interesting and I feel like is what’s moving the story forward (there are two in book 1 iirc).

You... more>> can think of Mo Ran as a f*ckboy who can be super compassionate when it comes to those he genuinely cares about. He’s chaotic and a bit vulgar, which is new to me when it comes to MCs and I kinda like it.

One thing I highly recommend is to not read anything new about the characters or spoilers if you want a genuine experience. Because I feel like that has... Somewhat ruined it for me, I’m finding it hard to read.

(My vague spoiler reason) :

Spoiler

MR flips a lot on his emotions for CWN, and I honestly feel like I would have been more empathetic had I not read how CWN actually is, or what and why he did things.

But because I already do, it’s why it’s so frustrating to read how MR treats CWN.

This was beautiful and sad, happy yet had you thinking about what makes one good and what counts as evil, the romance was not built for the plot neither was the plot dependant on the romance, they were both interwined and made the building of the story. I won't lie this was kind of slow burn I was so mad at Mo Ran some time for not noticing what was right in front of him. The characters were so tragic yet so beautiful, Chu Wanting was so relatable and heartbreaking,... more>> the MC as well as the ML had a lot written about each of them, without having neither hanging. I really like poetry so I might be a bit bias towards the author for this because her use of poetic undertones and device was very appreciated by this reader lol.

Most novel has a way of making villains who plans intricately and are quite intelligent into dumb people fighting for meaningless goals, but this books has you falling in hate, pity, and love with them as well as empathizing to a certain extent with them. The world building was very interesting as well, there are lots of characters and this can be unnerving at times but once you get invested it doesn't give any issues at all, the romance was really really beautiful and interesting
Spoiler

Mo Ran and wanning hidden romance in the sect ground was so funny and beautiful.
