Before becoming a widow, Hua Yang disliked almost everything about her husband. She disliked his sullen face every day, disliked him for lying on the bed full of sweat, and even disliked his lack of restraint at certain moments.

But when he really died and she became a widow, Hua Yang actually began to miss his good qualities one by one, such as his figure walking steadily in the heavy rain carrying her on his back, such as his blazing hot chest in the cold winter.

Once reborn, Hua Yang decided to be nice to him.

Just started reading. Still at chapter 10 but almost dropping. Im getting irritated with the MC. She said, she wants to start anew with the ML since she reaalized her feelings to late when he died in the previous life. Then why the heck aren't you compromising. It was like he has to bow down before she submits. Did you really learn anything from the past? You married a martial artist guy, not a dandy or a price charming type and you've known it since day 1 then youll say,... more>> you should have married the 3rd brother instead of him since he was considerate to his wife. Then who hunted what you eat? You hope for a harmonious life but you cant control your mouth. It seems like the ML married an ancestor instead of a wife. I know, there's a lot of 5 stars review or probably its still early. Ill skip this one and comeback someother time when Im no longer annoyed or probably skip chapters. <<less

This is a new twist in an old trope - unlike other reborn people our protagonist is NOT wronged at all. Heck, I think she wronged more people because of her prissiness. But she is and good person from her bones, her last life prissiness is not entirely her fault. It's ML fault for being smelly, and stubborn. But if you look at their age it's understandable for them to be so headstrong and believe themselves right all the time.

I like how or MC and ML both learn to put... more>> down their ego and play nice with each other. In the last life eventhough they are not nice to each other they at least respect each other as a person and ML never forced her on the bed and MC never forced ML to do anything just on her prestige as a princess.

Eventhough in the last life nothing actually horrible happened to our MC she still tried her best to rectify the wronged that happend previously. And even some these 'wrongs' are the fault of these people themselves for being cavalier with their health and not being a good teacher. So MC basically try to save these people from themselves. MC even with all her prissiness do all these troublesome things because she really has a good heart. That's why I like this MC. <<less

I would give this 6 stars if I could. This is a masterpiece. This is a perfect book. I actually don't know what to say.

I think the only book that is equivalent to this in my experience in depth, writing, character development, detailed information, emotionally moving characters, underrated but realistic reasonings, etc. Would be maybe silent reading but even then I think silent reading has a little bit too much drama in comparison to this one. This book is actually really chill. But a lot of things happen and it's... more>> all meaningful and not boring to read.

I don't like the ML. But I learned to appreciate and like him. I like the MC and I like how the author inadvertently discusses how equality in a relationship in ancient China can look like through her. And she is constantly used as this important foil against every other ordinary woman who has to depend on a husband. I love it. When I say I don't like the ML, I don't like his stereotype but he is not a stereotype. I actually really like him. Because the author made him more than just the typical wolf type. When he does something wrong, the MC calls him out. When the MC does something wrong, he calls her out. But they don't actually do something wrong. They do something wrong in a valid perspective of the other person. They actually aren't technically wrong but the author allows us to see so many different perspectives from different people's personalities and backgrounds. And the author allows us to understand it and allows it to move the story forward with such incredibly detailed and smart characters. And this is for every single character in this book. Not just the leads.

I genuinely cannot believe this book. This book is perfect. If you're looking for something that is not really dramatic in writing but has the emotional impact and incredibly detailed character writing, then I don't know what else to say again. Because this is it genuinely. The events are technically chill: this is really mostly about one family (chen) and how a kind, but rightfully prideful princess takes care of both her in-laws and her immediate family in her second life while getting to know her consort better. What makes me like the ML is that he is actually not always right but he's actually not wrong either. He is totally like a f*ckboy to me sometimes, But he isn't trying to pretend to be anything more than he's not while also having the confidence and intelligence to stand by the princess.

This is so long I can't even describe this book really. It's a masterpiece. If you're looking for dog blood this is not it and I'm so glad that this book is just absolutely incredible. <<less

I can't even start to say how beautiful this story is.

It is a mature story about being a husband and wife, sharing joy and sorrow.

MC time travel led to the past, 3 years after ML died. MC then tried her best to change her prejudice, tried to treat ML better, and erasing her brother hate to ML's father. What she didn't know that compromising is the start of something new. MC and ML relationship slowly grew to become a real husband and wife in every sense of the word.

I love... more>> almost all the important characters here, they each have a lovely side.
    • MC is outwardly arrogant but a very very very rationale and wise princess.
    • ML sounds boorish, but in fact he is the joker of the family, very smart, cheeky and daring. He is my favorite character this time.
    • MC father is lustful but very very loving to his children. It is a rare thing to see in someone on his position.
    • MC mother in turn is the strict parent. Very wise but strict nonetheless
    • ML father is very strict, maybe more so than MC mother, but he is a rare wise and loyal minister
    • MC brother is a conondrum. He was growing up and very easily influenced. MC first life and second life is the mirror on how his personality will be if influenced by some factors. He is very loving brother, nonetheless.
They are only some of the more important characters mentioned, but they each have a depth to their characters rarely seen.

MC and ML will finally Have a child in the last chapters and I love the epilogues but the last one left me kinda hanging. <<less

(TLDR: the male lead is a character straight out of a cornhub video and I was frustrated because *I* really wanted to read more about the plot... and this guy just keeps showing up and waving around the massive "rooster" between his legs he traded his brain for, instead.)

I like the surrounding story, but holy crap I can't stand the male lead. I'll admit, I'm biased, I don't like male leads in general. But THIS GUY. Dude. Why is your male lead written exactly the same way as... more>> "nameless cannon fodder bandit #4" who dies pathetically from a sneak attack in the middle of taking a pee in the woods? I keep expecting him to spout lines like "Hehe, come're girlie, you'll fetch a fine price..." or "boss, howsabout we play with her a little first!"

like. how on earth do you write a romance novel love interest with the exact same demeanor and personality as other story's tr*sh mobs that are specifically written to be infuriating and disgusting so that the readers don't feel bad when the protagonist mu*ders them? Don't answer that, that's a rhetorical question, I know the answer, I just don't like it. The common thread between tr*sh mobs and romance novel male leads is: tr*sh mobs (written to be rapists so that he's obviously horrifically evil and satisfying to mu*der) Romance Novel ML ("Oh Em Gee it's so hot when he's forceful and r*pey")

Like. these characters. they're the same guy. you have terrible taste in men. =/

Let me illustrate with a comparison. Shrek is a literal actual cartoon ogre, and he's more endearing and cleanly than Chen Jingzong by a country mile. Heck. The first scene of the movie is Shrek taking a bath, in mud, but still, clearly a bath. Chen Jingzong legitimately thinks bathing is for wussies and refuses to do it, unless bribed with s*x. One of *his* first scenes, is how the protagonist has to twist his ear and kick him out of the bedroom to make him clean off his white sticky... "stuff" from her clothes after railing her all night. Chen Jingzong has exactly two redeeming qualities - he's got muscles, and he's got a nice face. Otherwise, his only character traits are "he's an ass to everybody who encounters him" and "he likes s*x". Note how Shrek is respectful and gentle to Fiona through the entire movie, except for lighthearted pranks and situations where it's just straight up practical to carry her like a sack of flour (like running away from an angry fire breathing dragon over a rickety bridge on top of a pool of lava).

Note. At the end of Shrek, his princess was so charmed she skipped out on her royal wedding, ditched her title, and ran off to elope and be an ogre living in mud with him. Chen Jingzong has had two lifetimes and the princess still barely tolerates him! Dude. When the guy that makes candles out of his earwax is less gross and more charming than you are. Maybe you should seriously reevaluate your life choices.

Chen Jingzong's "tragic" backstory is that his dad said "look how awesome your older brothers are, study hard and grow up well to be like your big brothers!" and his response was to skip out on school, run away from home, and purposely become as s*upid, rude and disgusting as possible to spite his dad. Like. dude. tell me why I'm supposed to like a person like that please?

He thoroughly succeeded at all three, btw.

Even folks raised in a barn learn some kinda manners, there's such a wonderful thing as farmboy charm, right? Said farmboy would look at Chen Jingzong and shake his head, saying "Your mama ain't raised you right." - the farmboy would be wrong. His mama did raise him right. He knows better, and decided to be awful on purpose, which is so much worse.

As of chapter 37 where I couldn't take it anymore, the thing that got me - after just being a total lech and jerk in every scene leading up to this point, now he gains a new character trait - he's apoplectically jealous and possessive. Jealous of... the eunuchs. And his sister-in-law. And historical figures. His rage that his wife... employs servants and spends time with female family members and keeps quoting a dead philosopher is used as his justification to pin her down and forcefully kiss and mol*st her. Her arms are bruised. He becomes even more violent when she tries to make him sleep on the couch in response. dude. this is not sexy, this is domestic abuse.

I don't want to read that. I want to hear more about how she befriends her shy, doormat sister-in-law Yu Xia and helps her be more assertive. I wanna read about how she helps her little brother grow up on the straight and narrow and not into a tyrannical emperor. I want to read about how she spoils her little niece. I want to read about her crazy party animal aunt! I want to read about her estranged relationship with her dad because of his womanizing habits, and how that childhood trauma affects her marriage. I want to read about how her close relationship with her mother in law helps her to mend the estranged relationship between her husband and his father - yes, even the male lead, I want to read about him... but I really want to read GOOD things about him, is the thing. I want to read about how she makes it so he doesn't die in a war like before, you know?

Why is the story putting tr*sh in front of me instead of all those things with actual value it's teasing me with?

The story is really good. But the premise is hugely undercut by mishandling the male lead. I know for a fact that it's absolutely possible to write a rough bandit-like guy well, but this is not it. Jack Sparrow? Uncle Qrow from RWBY? Sirius Black? Beast, from beauty and the beast. Flynn Rider. Come on, it's so doable. The premise is that our protagonist was a prissy princess in her last life and misjudged her husband, and she should have treated him better, right? That's kinda the whole thing. Problem being - everything points to the princess being right the first time!! She didn't misunderstand him, she was completely accurate, her husband is the absolute worst. Even the "nice" things he does are actually terrible, like the whole big plot point where he jumps the fence to bring back meat to eat secretly without his family knowing (Basically, the modern equivalent is he's scrolling tik tok and laughing uproariously in the middle of his grandma's funeral. so. not a good point...)

How are we supposed to have a plot about the protagonist being wrong and growing as a person if she wasn't actually wrong. He really is just cannon fodder bandit #4. Less r*pe, less jealousy, less being an as*hole at family functions, and more big strong monkey man with too much body hair has a heart of gold and takes care of his wife, okay? That's what I really wanted out of this story, and did not get. <<less

It's a captivating story with good character development and smooth plot. Well-written too.

MC and her love interest are not typical likable/perfect individuals. MC is a haughty princess. Her love interest is an oaf. Each has their own fault, and that is what makes the story interesting.

I would recommend this novel for fans of ancient chinese historical stories, also those who seek stories with unforgettable pairing & fluid plot. Everything develops well until the end, though the extra chapters are really unnecessary.

A solid storyline and character development, this novel definitely is a gem!

MC is reborn but she is not someone who knows everything nor having supernatural power. She tried to avoid the same problems from happening based on the scattered information she had, because in the past life she was too ignorant about many things.

ML is funny and very creative, which many times made people around him speechless.

The story ends nicely with some side stories, telling what actually happened in the past life.

This story definitely has a message about marriage and the myth of love at first sight. While the FL and ML were definitely attracted to each other at first sight, their marriage fell apart because neither communicated their needs. With the FL being reborn and understanding her husband better, they manage to reach a compromise where they keep their pride but their needs are met. And even if they're not classically "in love", they're partners for life and I think that's just as important.

Spoiler

I think it also really makes sense for the FL to not be able to prevent her father's death. Unlike the man-made tragedies she fixed before, her father had been ruining his health even before she was born. It was only a matter of time before his body gave out, and no scheme can undo that.

It's also very good character building because we know the FL values her immediate family greatly, so even if she subconsciously knows this death is inevitable, she still has to stubbornly try.

I really enjoyed this novel!!! Also I absolutely love the ML. I had my doubts when reading the reviews but after reading the novel myself, I really like the ML. He’s a rare species in CNovels.

He isn’t the cold domineering CEO type. He is a rascal. A mischievous guy who talks sh*t a lot. But he respects his wife and dotes on her with his actions even if his mouth is spouting nonsense.

FL is an arrogant princess who has lived in privilege and luxury for a long time. In her... more>> second life she tones down her arrogance and becomes more involved in people’s lives.

Long review later but its seriously a great story that made me laugh so much because of the antics between characters.

All the characters are quite distinct with their own personality quirks. The chemistry between the two leads are so great too!!! No need to say I love you, they demonstrate it through actions and care for one another.

The story has a lot about political maneuvering. How to reform the nation and the intricacies involved in it.

I love how our FL advises important people. She may be reborn but she has no golden finger and she’s not omnipotent. She does what she can to change things and hope it works out. I enjoyed the journey.

Also 11/10 BEST ML. Seriously give him a chance to the end. <<less

I've been reading (and reviewing) the author's stories. They have distinctive flavours, so I very much enjoyed reading them all~

Spoiler

In this story, I quite disliked the leads at first. FL seemed too arrogant and her words can be hurtful (but that's her privilege as the most favoured princess). I thought the ML was quite pitiful. But then he opened his mouth to argue with the FL (he was not a gentleman, and his words can be sharp and irritating)... and so I disliked him too.. they both acted like enemies who would never surrender or gain peace..

Later, they began to depend on and trust each other more. So their annoying interaction seems to change from bitter to sweet..

[collapse]

I learn a lot from this story. Everyone has their own ego and pride, but to live peacefully and happily, you just have to communicate effectively, open up yourself, and be broad-minded of others.

Accepting others' flaws can help ease tense situation, but accepting your own flaws and correcting them will have a greater impact to yourself and others~

Finally, what I like the most are the extras (of their alternate lives). I'm happy to see different happy endings to both of them~🍬🍭

p.s. It was difficult to find the extras 🥲 <<less

i mtl-ed this to the end, and I am quite satisfied! As someone who quits a story if it gets annoyingh, me completing it means the story has been appealing enough to me

The main couple is cute, and there aren't any serious major issues that happened between them, just two people with different styles living together. He is willing to cater to her and it is quite sweet, and he knows that she shows her affection with action, rather than words.

Her relationship with her family and in-laws are both nice... more>> to see!

I prefer this type of writing style where the plot and the main couple's relationship move the story along, rather than misunderstandings. I think the 'main' villain being who it is and the motive is... Not what I would be a fan of in terms villains, but it is not unheard of in reality.

I have my minor issues with the story, but it was an entertaining read anyway! <<less

4.5 stars

This book is enjoyable. The love story is nice and the political aspects are intriguing, not dull. The main character is a princess in title, personality, and actions. She grows as a person but remains true to her original personality after being reborn. The male lead is open-minded and playful. This couple has a good physical relationship, but their love story develops gradually (slow-burn). I put in the spoiler what their relationship dynamic is for the first 80 chapters. They eventually fall in love but since the MC... more>> is a major tsundere while the ML is a very informal person, there isn't a dedicated scene where they exchange love words.

Spoiler

ML was nice to MC, but he didn't say sweet things and often say absurdities. MC thinks he's obsessed with her body, and she's not sure if that's real love. She believes that if they ever split up, ML would be with another beautiful woman. She doesn't love him but doesn't find him unpleasant anymore. Her feelings are more like satisfaction. She's happy with him because he fulfills her needs, helps her when required, and they're intimate unless she's not in the mood. They're both content with this arrangement.

[collapse]

The side stories are not as good as the main story, though. I felt like it would have been better if there was an epilogue after the main story instead of the side stories. <<less

I enjoyed this. The chemistry between the MC and ML is present and I like how their relationship grows. I feel that each character is very well-developed and flawed and how their upbringing or behavior affect their actions or their relationships with others. The relationship between the MC’s FIL and the emperor was interesting to me because I haven’t read a novel that explores the dynamics between a underage emperor and his teacher/minister like it has in this novel. Furthermore, I like that the passage of time feels realistic. The... more>> MC doesn’t solve and prevent tons of disasters in half a year. It takes time, especially in an era where no transportation and communication isn’t as developed as modern times.

I think the ML is a straightforward and simple person, but he also is a devoted person.

Spoiler

When he was honest with the MC on why he agrees to not have children yet was so touching to me and shows how he cares for her. I also think that he isn’t dumb, he just presents himself that way as a form of rebellion against his father as well as he doesn’t care about over complicating things or scholarly lifestyle. He constantly wants to be intimate, but it’s towards only towards the MC and never towards others. It feels like the author uses it as a gag so I don’t mind it as much compared to other novels.

I’m only on Chapter 11, but I have to say this is extremely enjoyable to read. I especially like the prince consort — he’s hilarious. I like the bickering between him and the princess. The pacing is good and the flow is smooth. No boring parts so far. I hope the novel doesn’t self-destruct as they (CN novels) tend to do.

A great novel and translation is superb! This is a novel about how humans often do not appreciate the ones around us until tragedy strikes. FL is reborned to her 18year old self when her husband is still alive. To prevent future tragedy, FL tries to unravel the mystery behind what happened in her first life.
