Rebirth Plan to Save Leader

What was even more shocking than how Li Wei won the world’s highest prize in theoretical physics at such a young age of 35 years old was the fact that he was found dead at home due to committing su*cide the day before the award ceremony.

In his letter to his student Jackie, he wrote: I have only been doing one thing crazily all these years, and physics is all I have. On the day it ends, the darkness will completely engulf me.

Many years after graduation, Zhang Man saw a love letter in her physics book while sorting her things out. It was signed by Li Wei. After his su*cide, she couldn’t eat or sleep at night, until one day she woke up and found herself back at the age of sixteen.

–Later, Li Wei, who became a leader in the world of physics again, said in an interview with global media, “I survived because of two essential things in my life: physics and her. Physics gave me the ability to think rationally in the darkness, and she gave me my light.”

One of the best light novel that I have read! Its so good and brings outh the melancholy feels.

The main characters are well built with times and have such a detailed information on certain aspects showing that the author really know and do research to write this light novel.

I really like how the novel come towards the end because we can see how much effort each characters have done to achieve their success in life with the love ones.

Thanks to the author for writing this and also kudos to the... more>> translator for picking up this project.

I've read the entire story from it's original text. It's an extremely moving story.

The female lead does her best at first to save the male lead, she had a firm belief that he could be 'fixed'. They eventually both know that he might never have any cure and that he could only curb it at bay, it's a touch of realism that I would not have thought the author would have put into the novel. It is also a gratifying sign of how despite the romanticism some may have about... more>> mental illnesses, here it is laid bare. You can definitely feel the struggles of the two protagonists throughout the story.

I look forward to more stories from this author, she has written a moving story that I really recommend. <<less

Reading this novel was truly a challenge for me who usually avoids stories with too much angst, but alas... I gave in to my curiosity and so glad I did!

The storytelling was superb as if the characters were true people with deep feelings. The love and struggles of the protagonists were life-like that I couldn't stop myself from being teary-eyed throughout the story. Li Wei and Zhang Man are each other's love and salvation😭

This is definitely my greatest read yet! Thank you so much author-sama and translator-sama for this gem... more>> 🫶 <<less

I'll be honest, I went into this with no expectations. I liked it up to a certain point, but my main issue is not just that the FL is in her 30s pursuing a high school freshman but also that she somehow acts like a child despite being double the ML's age. Taking a bit of a break, maybe I'll return.

Usually I don't like the trope of using Love as a fixer upper, but this novel just shows how it's meant to be done.

It's not that she loves him despite of his mental illness, but regardless.A nd it took him some steps to understand that.

She doesn't heal him from his schizophrenia, she helps him manage it.

I've heard someone say that a relationship isn't a 50-50 deal but a 60-40, with both persons aiming to be the 60. In Li Wei and Zhang Man's case, it's them both trying their damnest... more>> to be the 100% because they know the other person is their 100%

I'm not well knowledgeable about the topic, but if the person who graduated from psychology in this review section is anyone to go off of, I also disagree with people who say that Zhang Man is too "intruding"

She kept a proper distance, being careful not to trigger him while still treating him as a human being with feelings, despite he himself not knowing he has them. This is also coupled with the fact that she consulted with a professional about how to act.

Paragraphs are written so poetically without it being too over the top, and honestly I've gained some great outlooks just from reading this novel alone.

Misunderstandings are resolved quickly and actually became a good and proper conflict that helps push the story forward instead of pushing the word count further.

And I like how it isn't completely limited to just a world of the two of them, Zhang Man's issue with her mother is also properly confronted.

Overall, it's heartwarming, gutwrenching, and satisfyingly tear-inducing, and honestly made me chuckle a lot of the times too. Being able to evoke emotions in the age of being apathetic and cold hearted, sometimes cynical honestly warms me up. I may not have sobbed my heart out, but God, one day, when it arrives, I hope I can love as hard and be loved as much as these two. <<less

I usually don’t read modern day reincarnation but I saw the high rating and reviews so I thought might as well try. The story is OK for me. Could’ve been better but it felt like the ending is abrupt. The author build up so much on the romance, I was waiting for the next level but it did not happen. The story ended after they pass their physics competition. The extras suddenly started 18 years later with the ML receiving his Nobel prize and from that, the proceeding chapters are... more>> recollection of important events in between that gap.

There are some characters that you know only exist to move the plot for example Si Jin who liked Li Wei. She transferred to their school, approached him, got rejected and then that’s it. She was never mentioned again. But it enabled the couple to finally confess their feelings.

In terms of the science part of the story, I also have some doubts, then again, I’m not expert about mental disorders and physics so I just turn off my brain whenever the author mentions schizophrenia, physics terminologies, etc.

One thing I notice is the flow of writing. It doesn’t seem repetitive. If the author mentioned something this chapter and brought it up again few chapters later, it is consistent. Unlike other novels I read where author seems to forget he mention this in the current chapter, which is contrast to what he said to few chapters ago. So I like that part.

Overall, I’d say it’s worth to read if you’re bored. But probably not worth to re-read. But I will check the author’s other works just because I like the flow of writing. <<less

I really hated the MC, gosh.

Annoying, self centered, the absolute victim and damsel in distress.

She never thinks that other people may have problems, no no, only she is the most sad, pitiful and the wronged one.

Bah. Where do you see an 35 yo woman acting like she is 14 yo? Feels absolute cringy and disgusting. We have internet nowadays ffs, absolutely none of you all are pure minded -.- yes, I'm looking at you all bl enjoyers especially.

I liked the mom and the ML tho.

I liked how realistic it was, especially in terms of the ML's relapse. The drama was also not prolonged.

Spoiler

For example, both of their love rivals only lasted two chapters. There were no misunderstandings and they got together very quickly once the ML realised his feelings.

[collapse]

However, I was a bit sceptical of the FL. Although it did end up happening, she was so sure that the ML would fall in love with her and her overconfidence put me off. The story was also really slice-of-life. The chapters weren't too long which was nice but the novel didn't have anything particularly outstanding about it.

Overall, the story is not too bad and the last extra was amazing.

Spoiler

When the ML thought she was there even though she passed away, it made me bawl my eyes out.

Beautiful story with beautiful characters.

The female is amazing. I am rooting for her, cheering, and wish for her to succeed in every paragraph.

And the male lead can't be described with mundane words.

Spoiler

Everytime he talks, his every word is beautiful, especially when he inquired something from the FL, so delicate, but strong, the feeling...

One of my favorite is the momen is when he confessed. Like.. omg my heart was beating so fast, my voice is soaring to the roof, I screamed at 2am

[collapse]

Both are angels. The female lead and male lead are just so precious.

Usually this type of novel was not what I looked forward to read. But omg, too beautiful, beyond words.

I had never read a novel like this before.

I have been looking for new dramas to watch lately, none can sate me at the moment, I hope this story can be one, I think it will be very good.

Thank you translator for the translation, the footnotes really help. The TN at the end of the chapters made my day. <<less

Don't get me wrong, I love this novel but I think it would be better if MC is just a teenager who somehow got future/prophetic memories through dreams or something rather than a woman in her thirties who was reborn as her teenaged self. Sorry, I just can't ignore the fact that she's mentally an adult while being in a romantic relationship with a teenager.

Anyway, because of this, I ended up making a head cannon that MC's mental age also regressed along with her body to enjoy this story to... more>> the fullest. <<less

Oh. God.

This made me cry several times. For those who haven't read it, I sincerely recommend that you read this.

This novel talks about unconditional love, or maybe not. I don't really know if you can categorize it as unconditional since she had only realized how much she loved him after rebirth. Nevertheless, their love story is quite beautiful.

There are parts where it made it made me cry, and there are parts where I realized that love really can be beautiful as long as the both parties have the resolve see... more>> it thru the end.

I admire the author's attempt in trying to explain schizophrenia, but the accuracy in which the author presents the disorder is by no means perfect. I am not an expert, and I will be reviewing this aspect of the novel from a student's minor knowledge.

Schizophrenia runs on a spectrum, some being excessively severe while others can be considered inconveniently minor. The ML's schizophrenia is described as "severe, " which was odd to me as it didn't seem intrusive whenever the ML is outside of his home. I'd argue that its... more>> not as severe as it is made out of to be as the ML seems normally functional (minus the time when he realized he wasn't, which I'll take into consideration). He doesn't really have any of the common types of delusion (ex. Grandiosity, persecution, somatic) The closest being the control type of delusion where he hears voices that aren't there, but then again, those voices don't really control him to a significant extent (well, up until his mind breaks). He does have a reoccurring hallucinations of his "mother, " and his close friend. All these would add up to the positive symptoms of schizophrenia, if only he had symptoms of disorganized thinking--seems like physics deter him away from this. The move to enter therapy was good, and the doctor's advice to avoid medications seemed accurate. Overall, not so bad of a depiction (from my knowledge anyways) so let's move on the plot.

I really did like the romance, coming from a romance junkie. I think that the plot was sweet, and I admire MC's painful efforts to support the MC.
Spoiler

The revelations of the origins of ML's "mother" and friend made my jaw drop lol. His genetic predispositions + environment really made him ten times more vulnerable to schizophrenia--sadly, it won't get better. My only qualms with this, from my pessimistic view, is that "love" can't salvage everything. ML did end up surviving long enough to see MC die first, but only through his efforts. MC was there to support him along the way, but he deserves more credit for trusting the MC, and for making the efforts to get better. The ML does not get better, he learns how to deal with the symptoms, but his illness does not disappear--Love didn't make it disappear. I think this small detail in the novel highlights the small reality of life that exists within fiction. Though they suffered, they persisted and lived a good life.

[collapse]

PS. As a physics romanticist, I really enjoyed Li Wei's minor references to physics. "Only when the space is flat is the shortest distance a straight line. If the space is curved, then the shortest distance will be a curve. There is no straight line in the curved space. So sometimes life doesn't mean to make a detour, because for emotions, that may be its shortest distance." <<less

This is a story of a woman's second chance to fix her greatest regret and be there for the man she's loved since he was a boy. Their biggest challenge

Spoiler

is the mental health problems he doesn't know he suffers from.

This story is intense. The execution isnt perfect. Alot of the side characters are weak because the focus is always on our main couple.

The ending slams you with an overload of emotion when it bookends the life they build together. Their HE feels a little too perfect sometimes but the ending reminds you they faced his illness everyday of their lives.

Every single book that I deemed as my favourite can walk out through the window.

This.

This is the book. Too good. Awesome. Tear jerker. Can a book really give you so much feels? I just...... cried a lot in a single chapter. To write such a good novel, I really want to kiss the author. I want to say more but I don't know what to say. I just finished reading this a minute ago and am still not over the feelings.

1000/10.

This is honestly one of the most heartbreaking yet heartwarming novels I have ever read. Like what it said, this is actually about love and salvation.

Li Wei deserves so much love in this cruel and painful world. I am so glad that Zhang Man is there for him. She truly is his light. And they are each other's everything. I have not encountered such selfless and genuine love of all, I admire Zhang Man for who she is, for her love, and for what she becomes to be able to... more>> support her love. Her character development is well-crafted. As for Li Wei, I am forever grateful that he overcomes his pain, he learns to let go, and he accepts himself. I cannot grasp the right words to perfectly describe the beauty of this novel. This is worth reading. <<less

The most romantic and sweetest novel I have read. Both of them are so romantic. Love the writing style.

The FL and ML acts very differently compared to those of similar plots, i.e. other novels with similar plots where the ML faces psychological problems and such. Thus, my first impression was it was going to be similar to those that I have read. However, even in the first few chapters, I could easily see that I was wrong. Although the ML may be ill, he is gentle and kind from the... more>> beginning. He isn’t overly possessive and the things he say melts my heart. On the other hand, I thought that the FL would be those that would fervently pursue the ML. Instead, she carefully approach and make sure she doesn’t cross the line that would make the ML uncomfortable or find her odd.

Their romance is very sweet. Both of them meticulously treat one another as their treasures. An example would be in the confession (do note it’s edited MTL) :
Spoiler

"Zhang Man, if you don’t like him, like me, okay, Hm?"

His voice was hoarse, and there was a little heavy nasal sound in his breathing, and there was a careful pleading in his tone.

"...I will be good to you in the future. Just like me, okay?"

Zhang Man's eyes were red, and the throat was wrenched together making her unable to speak, but for a long time, she realised that she didn't have to speak.

She is now standing on the steps, almost as tall as him, so a little step forward can easily hold him tightly.

She did exactly that.

She threw herself into the young man's arms, tightly held his back tightly, put her head on his shoulder, and tears involuntarily gushed out and dampened his school uniform collar.

[collapse]

Another random part of the novel I found that it was amusing:
Spoiler

Zhang Huifang was watching people playing cards and casually replied, "Manman's boyfriend hasn't come yet."

Her voice was originally loud. Many people sitting next to her heard it, and there was silence in the room.

The second aunt who was playing with the mobile phone curled her lips and pulled her daughter's sleeves.

Her daughter attends the best key high school in the next city. She is obedient and hardworking. She never plays with those classmates that are in an awful mess and her grades are still very good.

"Manman seems to be a few months younger than you. She dates at an early age. Don't imitate her. Study hard is the serious way to go, do you hear me?"

The little girl was educated by her mother every day. She was used to it for a long time and nodded obediently.

Just then, the door of the private room was pushed open, and the teenager in black came in wearing a baseball cap. He went to Zhang Huifang and smiled at her apologeticly.

"Auntie, I'm sorry, I'm late."

Silence fell in the room.

This handsome man is too handsome. One can't take his eyes off. Especially a few young girls couldn't help but be excited and looked at Zhang Huifang from time to time.

Wow, it's cool when you don't smile. It's too beautiful to laugh. It's like there are stars in your eyes.

Who is this?

This can't be just what Zhang Man said, is it?

The teenager said, took out two gifts from the gift bag in his hand and gave them to Zhang Huifang and Xu Shang, wishing them a happy wedding.

There was another silence in the room, and then there was a sound of whirring air conditioner.

A pair of Cartier watches... the two should add up to more than 100, 000...

The second aunt stopped playing with her mobile phone, turned her face, and looked at her daughter cordially.

"Nannan, if you study too hard, there is no problem using dating at an early age to relieve stress stress."

[collapse]

The entire novel is very complete. Although the main novel ended at the part where both of them were going to enter university, the extras revealed their life after they entered university all the way till they are old. For the sad parts:
Spoiler

I found it bearable. And yes, this is coming from a person who can’t read angsty novels or withstand such plots. I did weep several times because of being touched and being sad, but it’s only for a few chapters. Maybe like 8 chapters? When I first saw the synopsis, I thought I would be crying throughout so I was utterly surprised.

The novel will slowly reveal why the ML acted in a certain way and every action behind had a reason. Yes, it’s sad but at the same time it made sense. The descriptive style of writing made the reader to be able to be immersed in the feelings that they had.

As for the plot, the sad parts were mainly the ML’s struggle with his illness and how FL reacted to it and tackled it. It was horribly touching.

[collapse]

All in all, I would definitely recommend this novel if you are looking for a sweet and romantic read. (With mental illness involved) I would not recommend this novel if you are looking for a face-slapping, Mary Sue, non-romantic novel. <<less

Heartbreakingly beautiful exploration of devotion and unconditional love against the backdrop of severe mental illness and the stigmas that come with it. Rather than grand romantic gestures or proclamations of undying love, you get sweet everyday moments and thoughtful consideration from ML and FL that illustrate their feelings through action. This is truly a nice love story. I love the main couple despite they abuse me with their dog food. I cried at the last chapter where everything crumbles. O love their development especially to the MC.

MC is not what you known a virtuous woman. She have flaws and attitude but one thing for sure is that ML is her world. I think that if ML died, she will follow also. ML is her everything.

ML is one of the most cinnamon bun (for me). His past is too heart wrenching... more>> and too tragic. But one thing for sure is that he's pretty sly. Rawr.

Oh my god this book. This is probably THE novel to read about an FL healing the ML (not his actual mental illness, but his self esteem and confidence). There's quite a few in this genre (and I probably have read a good amount of them), but this is a masterpiece. I don't think you could go wrong reading this story (okay maybe if you want to read accurate mental health diagnosis and treatment, but maybe you shouldn't be reading fiction novels then???)

I have this scene painted into my... more>> mind. The imagery is so strong I can still recall it years after reading this book.

Spoiler

Halfway through the novel, the ML runs away. The FL spends days upon days trying to find him (also mind you this is around Lunar New Year when everyone else is enjoying family and being loved) and the worry, anxiety, and sadness she feels is overwhelming. She goes everywhere. Going as far as contacting the police and checking train and flight tickets to see where he could be. Stays at the airport in hopes of seeing him. She goes to all the lengths. The alternating hope and desperation is magical.

She's just about given up all hope of finding him and is just thankful to not see news on "Youth su*cide" when she decides to go to the old villa ML lived in before with his family. This is her last shot. She reaches the villa after a long trek, only to find that no one is there. The hopelessness she felt in that moment was heartwrenching. I was crying with her.

Leaving the courtyard, suddenly she sees these fireworks. Beautiful. Big. Vibrant. Everything she isn't at that moment.

But then she sees him.

Oh my dajfhdakj. There are no words to describe that moment except the author's original. You can read that for yourself. I'm pretty spent right now just recapping all of this.

Just beautiful. Not to be dramatic (although this review is already pretty much that), but I'm getting teary again writing this.

[collapse]

Note: I had the luxury of reading this in the raws, so not sure how the translation holds up. From what I skimmed through, looks all right, but I'm also a firm believer in the original language being better. If you somehow have the patience to learn Mandarin, this novel is probably worth it, though I probably wouldn't wait that long to read this novel lol. <<less
