Highly overhyped story. I did manage to read to the end, because I was hoping for something special, because of the good reasons, but it was a fight I shouldn't have fought.

If you are looking for romance, forget it... there are barely 1 to 5 chapters that could be counted as "romance" but it's empty words without the feelings.

If you are looking for that intricate world building, that some reviews hype, there is none. The only thing "intricate" is the high amount of names and relationships between family members.... more>> Forget about politics.

If you just want to read anything with a good translation, then here you go. The translation is first class.

Ok, now let me address some misinterpretation I got due to other reviewers:

  • 2 parts that would be their own books and MCs
  • Complicated world building that needs brainjuice
There are no 2 MCs and it is not exactly partitioned in two stories. MC is Wei Chongrong aka. Helian Yi Yin. His birthfather is a prince (Wei Zaho) of great yan and himself is a product of r*pe while his father was a "war prissoner" to the enemy ruler. (mpreg) In the first timeline went a lot wrong and many, many people died premature. MC got reborn to the age of 3, where his father is still alive and both are still in capture. Our MC is basically powerless due to his age and body, so he can only remind his father occasionally and better their relationship. These small changes and that his father doesn't die but can escape changes the whole future.

And here is the part to complain, or rather why people might feel there are 2 MC, the real changes are brought on by the father of MC. Basically MC is just a bystander while his father is rocking everything, clawing his way back up. If there are "schemes " you won't read about it, cause daddy already solved everything. So Wei Zaho feels like the real MC here, even the tragic lovestory and ending up with another 2d character in the end.

Then there is an interlude with a lot of history dump, 4 chapters about the emperor Wei Sun. Then there is a time skip to our (more or less) grown up MC on mission. But even with his action interlude, the story in the end is handled by his daddy. The second part is rather boring with some "lovestory" sprinkled in, that really can't convince. The whole story is rather lackluster.

To sum it up: The real MC is Wei Zaho throughout the whole book but we follow unfortunately the wrong camera and can't see the good stuff.

About the complex world.... it isn't. The writer is somewhat fogging up the vision by throwing in lots of names (including titles and more names and nicknames for every f*cking person) in a lot of messy family ties where basically everyone shares everyone's blood line with each other. The different relationships and the lots and lots of unneeded history dump, are what makes this complicated. The story itself is really flat without real political intriguing or schemes. The enemies are rather clear early on and hold no surprises.

So... for me, this novel was a double disappointment. Neither the romance, nor the story were up to standard. It started out rather promising but from the moment they went home safely, the story went downhill.

It is not my cup of tea and I would not exactly recommend it. You could use your time to read a better novel than this. <<less

Such a complicated story right from the start. Character after character dumped on you. I like the idea of mpreg though, I've always loved such novels.

Still I've read a review saying it gets boring, seeing as it's already much to begin with, I'ma drop.

LoL the translator's note at the start is ridiculous. And funny. No work doesn't get ridicule, cry about it.

... more>> So I read this a second time...

This time I completed the whole thing; and I gotta say I was wrong. It's not bad, really. Idk why I have to read these kind of ancient setting novels more than once to get them. But yeah, this one requires patience, especially having so many characters with so many information dump instances.

Sometimes it gets really fun and exciting, other times it's... slow. And you skip through the chapters. I have huge respect for authors that write these kinds of novels though. It must take tons of research.

  1. Characters. Great. Detailed. Not too 2D or just there for plot convenience. In fact sometimes I wish the author didn't focus so much on the side characters sometimes.
  2. Plot. Not so predictable, and also, definitely not disappointing. It's nice I guess. I like the romance; it's not forced (the one of the main couple) and there's mutual interest. You also get lots of side couples.
So yeah, I'ma revise my rating and give this like a 3.8 Star. <<less

Never have I posted a review before finishing the book but I was bored in middle of reading so here I am...

Sooo much superfluous information. It's like a history book! The author goes too much into the past wars and deaths of really unrelated characters. If it was a brief mention I could let it pass but they go into so much detail, unnecessarily damping all that useless info. On top of that it is repetitive.

I am unsure how I feel about the characters. There are rly 2 main characters.... more>> I was confused about it at first but neither of them can be a side cuz the story wouldn't happen without either (or would be a replay of past life), I don't really like either of them... The dad is kind of cool but he doesn't seem to be from main CP, son is still 5 years old. So there is absolutely no BL yet. Slow pace, which I wouldn't mind if the text wasn't full of boring info.

I do really like the plot and want to finish the story to find out how it will develop but I'm not entirely sure if I won't drop it sooner.. <<less

Ultimately, this novel was a waste of time.

You spent a lot of time to keep up with the growing number of casts, so large that it felt like the author was force-feeding you with chokeful after chokeful of unnecessary history lesson and extended family tree (s). It was so bad that even the translator would came up several times to remind readers of who's who. Not to mention that the author also took great pain to overexplain, even things related to minor character.

The plot's actually simple and not much different... more>> than its historical yaoi peers but this writing style is a major turn off. The plot's quality varied from chapter to chapter, some are interesting but most of them felt like reading a boring historical biography of characters you don't even care about.

Actually I was reading this for the military and palace affairs since it's what people who read historical novels are interested about, right? But don't you dare to expect more because the author LOVED to skip the scheming and strategizing parts and decided to just show us the result after daddy got involved.

I wouldn't have any problem with that since I also liked the father-son relationship development between the two. But for all those trouble the author took to overexplain about the problems they faced and the readers who took their time to connect the overarching plot, the readers were barely given any glimpse of how it was solved because the problem vanished with a wave of daddy's hand. After that, the author would just merrily went their own way and continue to write another info dump disguised as historical biography.

Rinse and repeat.

Of course, it's up to the readers to continue reading or not. I give up after the author decided to circle around the previous emperor's story again. Meh. Who tf cared enough to read about a shitty emperor's life story? <<less

A very different rebirth story I've ever read. It wasn't Like other stories of the rebirth MC become omnipotent or genius. It was a realistic rebirth scenario I could ever read. Brother Rong rebirth started from baby phase he had no power, or wealth nada... He only had knowledge of some events.

If you're looking for face slapping revenge from rebirth MC, turn back you won't get that here..

... more>> The Op person was his father Wei Zhao. ig everyone like him more than MC itself.

And most of the story involved around WZ only till 70th chapter ig. Very later it was abot MC and ML and their romance.

I came for Yaoi but the father son relationship real won my heart.

Spoiler

the delivery scene were horrible man it was described so good... I was so scared for WZ

[collapse]

I've never seen such friendly royal familiar brotherly bond. WZ and WM!

The book wasn't revolving around romance. It was about the life of war and royalty and what if, . means the second chances...

Start of the story was really good..

After 70+ chapters the actual romance starts for CP. Well and honestly speaking I didn't even felt the need to have a main CP till 70 chaps.

But still those chapter of CP and romance weren't that interesting it felt to plain...

Instead the last chapter of previous main CP were interesting

But later after 90th chapter the novel again picked his pace and become more interesting.

The origin of WZ.✔️

The past life JH ✔️

I think those were the thing that I liked the best.

Didn't like the chapter giving the glimpse of twins life tho. Because I felt there was no need of it.

And sometimes I felt like there is lot irrelevant info was also there.

And there were too many characters but it's wasn't confusing but sometimes felt them irrelevant.

But nvm it was still oka--actually more than ok read.

Will still say father son and YY and JH from first life won my heart. Basically the first part of the story will win your heart.. <<less

It was good until it was boringly lengthy after halfway of the story.. And there's really almost no thrilling conflict except the one at the beginning.. Too many characters with entangled relationships, too many terms, it such a hard work for the translator.. Thank you for the superb translation :)

The novel started out extremely good. It had me captivated until the MC grew up. After that, the story became boring. In a nutshell, the royal families and their friends just married each other; keeping it all in the family. There is not one MC, but several MC. The author tried to “flesh” the characters out but miscalculated and ended up making 1/4 of the characters the “MC”. This novel is made up of several stories put together in one. Each story is about a specific character and his/her plight... more>> to fame, then put all those stories together and you’ve got a novel with several MCs. That’s not all of it, towards the end ALL the characters of the past and present are living parallel lives. 🤦‍♀️ This novel is a mess. <<less

The moment I started reading the first line I couldn't put it down. Thank god it was complete otherwise I'll go insane. The translator has done an amazing job. Beautiful language. It was really nice.

It is a story you only come across once in a 100 stories. It is pretty good. But it could have done much better. The MC did not do much. He did but why when we do not know. He did it. That's all. It creates a certain distance between the character and the reader. I... more>> did not feel that much close to MC as he grew up. His character was very distant. Whether it was him or the ML their outlines were very blurry.

It was pretty realistic though. Our MC went back to being a 3 year old kid. There was not much he could do. He just tried his best and did all he could. Fortunately they were lucky enough.
Spoiler

Especially when they ran away from Fuyu and met the hunter when they got lost.

[collapse]

Almost all was done by his father. He is very capable and wise. Our MC actually stopped doing everything when he realised his dad would do it for him so why bother. He got enlightened after a while and started studying and practising like crazy.

It was so hard to keep going. It tested my patience so many times. And when things calmed down I wanted to ditch but I stayed.

I didn't like MC's dad in the beginning and was very sure I would not forgive him under any circumstance. Honestly if I ever went through the same stuff I'm not sure I would be a good parent either.
Spoiler

MC is a child concieved through r*pe. He was constantly used as a trophy by that wimpy emperor in his power play. That lil b*tch. He should have suffered a lot more. And the author should have described it for an entire chapter and I would've enjoyed reading it so much.

[collapse]

Well the MC doesn't come of age until like half the story so all is done by his dad. But he adds oil to the fire and makes sure he gets what he wants. That was pretty fun.

And the villain at the end of the story, the way I see it is created through enabling.
Spoiler

He is the crown prince's 2nd son. Crown prince (now emperor) is MC's dad's elder brother. He's a very good man. Unfortunately the 2nd son kills the 1st son and frames the 3rd one for it. Once they realised the 3rd one did not do it either I skipped or the author didn't say he was released. That is another thing. As long as the main couple lived happily ever after a lot of people were forgotten. Are they ok? Especially 3rd prince MaoMao. Our little cat. I was so afraid he would commit su*cide.

The 3rd and the 1st one were such good people. It was said that it was because the 2nd son was neglected by his parents and he ended up ruining his entire family.

[collapse]

He just wanted power. He was just one step away from it. He just wanted an excuse. He was probably a sociopath. Even his own father didn't know who he was really until he started ruling the country. The previous emperor knew (his other father) but ultimately gave in to his empress and gave the throne to him anyways. He ended up getting his own daughter killed because of it at the end. Nothing stays forever.

Actually it was the crown prince consort (now empress) who was next in line when it came to 'who was at fault'. He was a big time enabler.
Spoiler

He induced the 1st son's youngest prince's birth prematurely. If he was born healthy he would've been named the crown prince after the emperor died. So the empress ruined the kid. Je ruined his eldest grandson so his son could be king. The baby was born ill and so weak. He had to eat medicine for 3 meals just to live. And at the end the empress was like 'Oh this is all my fault!' Who else but you!? The crown prince who was then the emperor ended up giving the throne to the 2nd son because of the empress. It all went express way to hell after that. It had already started for a while. They just didn't know

[collapse]
Actually if they pursued the matter further when he tried to harm the MC at least they could've had a clue about this guy. When he bad-mouthed MC for being a bastard, a little wolf thus and thus and incited his younger brother to fight with him he was not disciplined. He poisoned MC's hunting horse. He could've died. Tried to beat him up in an alleyway. MC was like 9 then. But the crown prince did not go after that. Whether he knew or not I am not clear. But he did not pay much attention to it that I am very certain of. As long as the situation solved itself they didn't bother.

But ultimately it was just unfortunate. None of those people deserved any of that. Well let's be honest, some did. But to achieve that, how many innocent people were sacrificed. I feel no joy.

But there are issues here. Very serious issues.

I'm basically going to spoil everything.

1.
Spoiler

MC and ML are the children of non-identical twins

[collapse]

For me all the fluff and sweetness of our couple ran out the back door the moment I realised this. And I couldn't really enjoy the story after that. Of Course there are cousins everywhere and they marry each other from left to right.

This came to light in the later chapters but I just don't understand why the author did this. It was so unnecessary. I was actually so happy our couple were not closely related and u went nuclear on it.

The thing is it was like the uncovering of the final main secret. It was given so much attention and importance. It made me want to puke. It felt like we were supposed to be happy about it.
Spoiler

MC's father's big time idol is Jun Li who dies early. He was a very accomplished general and it turns out MC's dad and ML's dad were given birth to by him. They were twins who were born to Jun Li and the emperor.

[collapse]

I don't know about other people but Jun Li was not a central figure in the story for me. So why so much attention was given him and the emperor I don't know. They are important of course but I have no connection to them. So why would I care what they did? I would but not that much.

Again why did it have to be ML's dad? Why not someone else? The in*est here felt so intentional because it could've been easily avoided. And there was no big enough excuse to cover this balant in*estuous relationship.

Spoiler

ML of the previous timeline ended up also coming back but much later. After a while he realised his family survived and that supposed tragedies did not happen so he was at peace and left. He ended up going back to before our MC died and started a relationship with that him.

[collapse]

If I didn't know this twin issue I would've genuinely hoped to know more about them but now... nah

2. Srsly the previous previous emperor (MC's father's father) was so senile when it comes to his s*x life. There were a few chapters about him after he officially died. What happened when he was young and stuff. I just passed over. He really doesn't deserve the attention. At least my one.

Spoiler

He heard his son r*ped women (he didn't) and send more women to his house thus angering the wife of the said son.

[collapse]
He is that disgusting. Yet our MC's father is so close to him and loves him so dearly. It had it's advantages but do u not care about how he treats other people? Are you not disgusted ? I was actually very happy that this senile old man did not like MC and their relationship was very distant. It feels really dirty.

Spoiler

maybe I missed it but other reviews say he also slept with his nephew!? Really?! What is wrong with u!!!

[collapse]

3. So much information. This is not a serious issue but you won't be able to digest it and will be confused. Just saying.

Sometimes it's relevant, sometimes not... most of the time actually. I am not very sure either. Obviously I also didn't read them. If not for the 1st issue up above I definitely would've read it again to make things clearer but I don't really have any reason to do that now. Such a shame. I really wanted to.

4. The romance was not very good. It was so abrupt and out of the blue. They are basically brothers and MC was on the fence about it and his guard said if you really did not like him you would've refused on the spot. So he came to the conclusion that he indeed was in love.

I disagree. Love is not such a thing. You can like someone but it would not be as deep as love. Like was as far as it would go. You could be attracted to someone but no long lasting thing would come out of it. You would be so sure that it was love and you go through life a few more years and realise how immature it was to even consider the possibility of love. There was no relationship in the story. It just was. A mere husk.

I felt no love. Of course there is the pampering doting everything but I did not feel it at all. It was just another bunch of words.

Not many authors know how to nail the love game. This is why Mò Xiāng Tóngxiù, the author of 'The Founder of Diabolism' is so successful. Her stories are flawed. I love all the characters but the story has very big holes in them. The ending of 'The Founder of Diabolism' was a mess. It fit fine but not very good. And it feels like it was written for 13 year old girls. Maybe it was. Just call me old. But her love game is top tier. 'Heaven Official's Blessing' was even better in this aspect.

You can feel it. You drown in it. It is so obvious it makes you look at the world in a different way. There are no words pampering and doting. There is no need for it to be put into words. You can feel it.

5. Another thing is r*pe. It is everywhere. I cannot put my finger on it but it is not taken seriously.

The author does not show who the rapist is. What kind of a pathetic loser they are always. In the story their dignity is still there when they die. They are not given the same humiliation.

If any of the main couples did that I would've dropped the novel asap but they did not. There were 3. MC's sperm donor, MC's grandfather (he slept with his own nephew), and the foreign prince who made a deal with the crown prince's 2nd son (this one was a sadistic serial rapist, he tortured people to death in bed). Author did not punish them. They did not get their karma. They had their honour at their death. They should've been humiliated like they did to their victim. It was like, to the author, it was not a big issue. Because they didn't pay that much attention to it.

It is not a good story. Not because it's utter tr*sh but because it could've been much much much better. The author is clearly talented but the way I see it they have a thing for in*est. Either it is excusable, not that much of a deal or enjoyable. I'm sorry if I offend you but when you come to the end chapters you can no longer deny this.

Because it's a miracle our main couple's children didn't have any genetic disease.

But it had the power to grab me by the scruff and drag me from beginning to the end. So it was a worthy read for me. At Least it was until the uncovering of Jun Li at the last two chapters. Genuinely speaking YUK. (Not him giving birth to babies just that their babies ended up making babies together)

The things that will punch u in the gut are r*pe and in*est. It is all over the place. So be aware. Oh and also senile old men.

It will be very hard to read. After ending it I'm pretty confused myself to be honest. But it is a good story. Just morally speaking, forget about grey, it's quite dark, honestly.

But will I read this again? NOPE. I'm going to meditate so my poor soul can have some peace. <<less

Need more Wei Zhao!!! Honestly, would've been better if the story ended before Wei Su's backstory (I have deep disgust for Wei Su)

Wei Zhao's story (1st book) is so moving, I literally can't stop reading it. I cried in their trouble times and felt anxious during their escape. The father-son scenes are very satisfying and kinda makes me jealous. It was super duper enjoyable, but Wei Chongrong's story (2nd book) was not giving it. I expected some more family scenes but the author did not give that

Spoiler

I felt extremely disappointed as well when Wei Zhao had another kid with Huo Qingyang.

Chongrong even took the initiative to replace Qingyang in guarding the border. So the 3 of them could spend time together. I hoped it would be 4 of them atleast but it author said nah

I couldn't shake off the aftertaste that Chongrong was replaced lol

[collapse]

Then yeah, generally, the author loves to information bomb everyone. SO MANY NAMES I didn't even bother to read all of them and just skim over. And finally the grooming allegations:

Spoiler

Wei Su is just disgusting and he had the gall to say that he didn't mean to groom his 15-YEAR-OLD NEPHEW gosh

Even though he said that wasn't his original intention, but HE STILL F*CKED HIM (AN UNDERAGED KID) when he "threw himself onto the dragon bed" or something

The translator also defended this behavour stating the definition of grooming.

Regardless, he still manipulated his nephew to be his ideal person and he still still f*cked him underage. You can't just say "Oopsie, I didn't mean to"

Also, I hate his blatant favoritism really stokes my anger towards him. He gave his secret love child's kids courtesy names (even the unborn ones!!!) But STILL did not acknowledge Chongrong

No amount of extra chapters can alleviate my hatred for him, it even made me more disgusted.

This book made me so tired. I got to the beginning of the second half and just can’t take the info dumps and all these characters anymore.

I feel like it speeds through the fun interesting bits and then we get into a cycle of explanations about the history of the world and details that don’t really matter.

I was reading then came to the reviews to see if I was tripping and then I got spoilers and know that I wasn’t. I also don’t feel like reading the story anymore after... more>> learning the direction it takes.

Enjoyed it in the beginning but it became too much in the end. Definitely feels like a waste of time... <<less

I won’t call it dropping, cause I did get through all of except the last 2 chapters. I honestly got bored a long time ago, but seeing so many reviews about how good it was even though there are plot holes and enormous info dumps, so I continued and tried to finish it.

I’ll admit the premise was interesting, the storyline was good and the characters were interesting enough. However, tbh, the start of a plot line always drew me in only to be disappointed when it’s never brought up again.

For... more>> example, WC being stabbed and infected with a gu, that whole line was just to have the MC and ML work together and get close. And it sucks cause I was interested in seeing how it would come together, but translator was right, they never even mentioned it again even when talking about the princess or WL. It was completely pointless.

Then there was the way the romance for both the father and son happened like a skip in video. One minute WZ was forlornly looking at his ex and sad about him getting married. Swearing he’d never get with anyone due to his past, then the next he’s got a kid and is with HY. We didn’t see any development happening nor do we see any change in his stance or how he overcame us trauma. Nothing.

On the same hand, We have WC who is so worried about hurting JH because his love is brotherly in nature only to have his guard say 1 thing to him and he immediately realizes he’s in love! And is head over heels in love and kiss him with no real change or development needed to change the relationship.

I just couldn’t get used to it. The relationship felt forced and like it was just put together with no real reason other than to move the plot along.

The novel was okay, but definitely not as good as the reviews portray <<less

Too much unnecessary info dumping and I eventually got super bored halfway despite persisting through 3/4 of it.

At first, it was interesting and the info dump was tolerable. But then the author kept on doing it and several times, even conversations or present events would be dumped as walls of text. It felt even more boring than an actual history book.

I suppose it takes a special kind of mood and patience to really sit through this and finish it.

4.5 STARS

It's a very good story. It's just that there are too many unnecessary info dumps. I understand that the author has crafted a very well thought out world, and wants the readers to experience it. But at some point, it gets very exhausting. I wish those were cut down.

But apart from that, it's a very good story. TL mentioned there being a sequel to this story. Hope that gets translated soon too, coz I wanna know where this is gonna go.

TL already said this, but I want the twins to be happy too. They deserve it.

My favorite character is Wei Zhao. He endured too much in his life. If there was an award for perseverance, he deserves it a thousand times over. I am very VERY glad that the MC got to change everything. Their lives in the first life were just way too miserable.

Imma set up camp here and wait for the sequel. 😎 <<less

I didn't enjoy it as much I hoped, because I kept becoming frustrated by the enormous amount of backstory connected to each plot turn. We are not shown, we're told, and we're told all the way back to 3 generation's machinations. The result is a novel filled with an extraordinary amount of exposition.

Its a good read for someone who like serious stories and has a lot of patience. I had difficulty remembering names and titles of soooo many characters, plus everyone is blood related and connected in several ways, its hard to keep up.

The story moves forward without much dragging though I cant say the plot or twists had me shocked. There are heartfelt moments, father son bonding which is satisfying, the main characters are strong, mature and real. Whilst the father son duo are likeable characters, I found it hard... more>> to feel anything strong for them. The son's story was lot less interesting than the father's. I actually didnt really like any of the romance parts.

Overall well written story. Though it took a lot of effort to read this book, I enjoyed the journey. <<less

I felt like I was reading a Chinese Fiction history book.

We have pages of history that get thrown in our faces and the plot had no relevance to it alot of the time.

I also can't tell if MC was MC's dad or MC himself. 80% of the time MC didn't need to do jack and problem solved.

... more>> Feel like the whole rebirth thing was just to save MC's dad who is super OP.

The revenge plot seems leaves so much to be desired. It was given up from the gecko the moment they escaped.

I do like the characters, a whole of them. I can feel them with the descriptions and interactions, but just lack detail plots for them which is a shame.

You know overall it was a sweet story that I really do enjoy, and I don't feel much pain except earlier then the rest was really sweet and jittery. It's enjoyable <<less

120 chapters completed. It was a sweet story about war and love and timeliness corrected. It was worth the read. The only issue I had was that the titles of people were so confusing that I couldn't tell if they were talking about another new added person or they were referring to titles. So confusing to the point that I felt the titles could've been omitted. Very frustrating. However, pulling through the titles and all, I loved the end, so sweet.
