Thus, he would change his fate as an abused slag.

First of all, I have no idea how this got so many good reviews, I keep wondering if we all read the same thing. Honestly at the start it was quite good, but the arc I'm currently reading ruined it. Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil was a good read the first couple of arcs if face-slapping and drama is your thing, but later you just get so tired of all the repetitive plot, rinse repeat, rinse repeat, rinse repeat. I dropped it at the Apocalypse and then picked... more>> it up after a couple of months, now I'm stuck again at Western Fantasy. Gosh this arc is so frustrating.

Spoiler

Okay so, here are my thoughts for each parts I've read so far:

  • Slapping The Business Giant - The beginning was a bit confusing, but things got clearer as I read more. This one was quite good. His hacking powers are bullshit, but we've already established that at the beginning. Satisfying face slapping, I guess, but ML didn't really hook me in. 3/5
  • Slapping the Black-Hearted Lotus - I enjoyed this one. I especially liked the scenes with the MC and the child. The gong was OK and the ending was satisfying. 3.5/5
  • Slapping the Space-Reincarnation Girl - The start of this arc was promising and I liked the ML here, he felt real. 4/5
  • Slapping the Pretending to be Poor Rich Second Generation - I normally like entertainment genre novels, and this is not an exception. The MC at first allowed the characters to step all over him, then he took revenge by become popular and shit. But anyways, he used his op hacking skills to change his body into something much more desirable and used his new appearance and op skills to get this role for a perfume ad. ML was kinda creepy, I didn't really like him here. He showered the MC with money, but he's meh compared to other gongs. 3/5
  • Small Farming Lord - Err, yeah, I didn't like this arc. World building is kinda odd and was overall weird for me. Maybe some people would enjoy it lol. 1/5
  • The Music King - This arc could possibly be one of my faves here. Like I said, I like entertainment genre, so I'm biased about this one. Despite all the plagiarism, I like how the MC turned the tables and shot up to popularity. What I didn't like though, was the deus ex machina, fake video bullshit. That's such a broken ability, I don't even know why the author wrote that. Couldn't they have made a better evidence than that video the author pulled out of their ass? The mc's bullsh*t hacking literally could make a fake video seem totally real. That's one of the only things I didn't like here. And also, ML was so forgettable that I can't even remember him. 4/5
  • Counter Attack of the Death Row Prisoner - Okay, so the start of this arc had potential, and the beginning was interesting. But I hate how it ended. The name of this arc is misleading, it's similar to ancient china royalty stuff. The imperial concubine and his adopted son became the ml. I hate that part, ugh it ruined the dynamic between them. I'll give this 1/5
  • The Next Top Supermodel - This also wasn't really that memorable. I can barely remember anything from this arc, some people seemed to enjoy this one, but I'll give it 2/5.
  • Copying an Apocalypse - Nice beginning, I usually like reading apocalypse type danmei, but instead of a suddenly apocalypse, we get the MC transmigrating into a researcher who's working on a cure for the virus. The plot was interesting, and in this arc, the MC was in danger because there was a problem with his soul. Anyway this one got so boring, I lost interest and only picked this book up again recently. Speed-read the rest of this arc and that was it. 2/5
  • Copying a Western Fantasy - This is gonna be a long one. Okay, so first of all, when this started I also thought it was gonna be good, but boy was I so disappointed. The characters all suck. I haven't gotten to the part where he discovers who the ML is, but jesus f*cking christ the god of light is so s*upid. He's supposed to be this being who subjugated the other gods in the continent and now they all serve under him, I'm not sure if there's some twist at the end, but maybe the hundreds of millions of years where he reigned supreme rotted his brain. MC comes in, changes his appearance to become so beautiful, pure, inocent, sexy, fragile, all of the goddamn compliments you can think off. It's honestly ridiculous how shallow all of the characters are. The moment they see a pretty face, they all start thinking with their dicks as if they're not hundreds of years old. The god of light is a massive simp. He's 100, 000, 000, you'd think he'd be immune to a pretty face, but no. So far, the MC has transmigrated in this world for 2 to 3 years, and he could ask this guy to jump and the god of light would ask how high. The way the MC is acting is understandable considering his soul is damaged, but I don't know if the god of light has an excuse. His brain is filled with mush, the only thing he's got going for him is his overwhelming godly power and perfect adonis body. He's as s*upid as they come. Basically, he used to have a temple full of pretty immortal servants, boys who don't age blablabla, that's actually the origin of the original protagonist of this world. He escaped from the temple and stole one of the god of light's rings. Anyway, a harem of beauties, power, subjects, and suddenly he's willing to drop everything for the MC who was only faking his affection. My head hurts from how many times I rolled my eyes every time characters describe the Mc's physical appearance. Every other paragraph has a line where they say, "His clear, blue eyes, sexy voice, beguiling lips, innocent, fragile figure, crystal-like tears, perfect buttocks". If only I could cleanse my brain after reading this lmao. I'd give this ark 0/5
[collapse]

That's all for the individual reviews. We're all different, so maybe I'd hate this and maybe you won't. We've all got different tastes in novels. You should read it yourself if you want to find out if it's really good. Reviews like mine and others are often unreliable, and you've got to read it to find out. <<less

Okay, so this novel is one of the first danmei that I have read (alongside svss) and I loved it. Two years later I come back to this page and saw quite a few review with only 1 star with arguments that actually makes sense to me, then I thought 'mayhaps my love for this novel was because of my lack of exposure to other excellent danmei?'.

Finally I decided to re-read this novel with much more danmei reading experiences under my belt, and then..... I still love it, although now... more>> there are some things that is more questionable than before but I still fervently enjoyed this piece of literature and can't help but lament why didn't I re-read this earlier.

So the conclusion is no this novel didn't suck at all. It is only because so many people have now came to know of the existence of this danmei that it opens the door to myriad of BL readers with different kinds of taste for literature. If you're interested then just read this and don't get discouraged by the negative reviews, and if you don't like it then feel free to drop it.

Thank you for your attention at this unnecessary essay from yours truly and don't forget to offer prayers and gratefulness to the great god of BL for bestowing us with their blessings of BL. Amen. <<less

I finished this novel years ago and bought all the LC which I thinks is worth my money. Everything was so cute and pleasing to read. One of an enjoyable read. I've reread this many times cuz I really in love with it! I strongly recommend this novel to everyone who loves to read time travel or transmigrating novel. Both MC and ML are the definition of a power couple and the path of MC find his lover and taking revenge is also so good. The face slapping is also... more>> so thrilling lol. Plus MC and ML is the cunning and smart type protagonist so there's almost no part where MC and ML annoyed readers. <<less

To people who don't like QT novels, you should try this novel.

I myself absolutely hated the QT genre because I once read a QT novel and it left me so utterly disappointed that I never dared to venture this genre again. After staying in my to-read list for god knows how long, I finally decided to give this novel a chance and to be honest I regretted judging every QT novels based on my first impression. All in all, the arcs were short and to my taste. The MC was... more>> also verryyy to my liking. There were some shortcomings but lets not go there because those were really minute to be even considered given the plot setting. Each and every arc was a page turner that it kept me hooked until the last page. Been a while since I found a book that I finished without getting bored midway and forcing myself to read it in hope that it would gain the previous momentum.

To people who are hesitating because you dont like QT novels. Read it. Been there, done that. I really hated QT novels but now I think I might go on a reading spree. Byeeeeee. <<less

I really enjoyed reading this and almost never stopped reading (read it in one go) but I think it’s not deserving of all these over the top reviews. YES, it is entertaining, it is fluff, it is fun and so much more... BUT it’s also annoying and full of flaws. Please keep in mind: I still enjoyed reading it but I think blindly praising it is undeserving.

The first arc/vol was just wow. I lived it, it was perfect. But going on I was either super annoyed or super entertained. There... more>> was even one arc/vol where I just wanted to get it over with (arc 10 I think) I was so annoyed with MC’s split personality, it really was torture. In the beginning I didn’t like that MC always acted like the previous host (so that others wouldn’t see a difference: if prev. host was arrogant, he would act arrogant; if prev. host was autistic, he would act autistic) but I came to like it and his reasons for doing so and it made the book more colorful. But in this arc/vol (10) he became so annoyed with his other self, that he just completely abandoned acting like the prev. host while he was in charge. And since that point (keeping up the facade) was important to him it kinda destroyed his character setting and was quite disappointing to read.

There were also some inconsistencies and contradictions in other arcs. Partly little things that just make yours guts itch, but still. Well, I don’t want to make the novel bad or something, but other review only mention how great it is so I wanted to tell everybody that it’s not all glorious or flawless.

What I like very much is that the settings of each world are very thought out, diverse and very complete (even the modern worlds, I always thought: ‘again a modern world how lame’ but they all turn out so different from the others, it’s great).

I also like the MC being a hacker and how he is above all because he has learned so many skills and gained so many insights in the process of all this previous lifetimes.

It’s also very cute and heart warming how the CP develops from fleeting warmth to looking forward to the other and actively looking for the other to accepting all about each other and depending on each other to finally dedicating their whole lives to the other person to the point where they can be said to be one.

Anyway, have fun reading.

(My advice: To enhance reading experience please forgo arc/vol 10.) <<less

the characters are unrealistic. The main character lacks a soul. Therefore, the so-called romantic relationship with ML does not go beyond interest. The relationship between them is more of a bodily relationship. It does not go beyond need. While evaluating this story, I would like to say that I have read many BL books. I finished all kinds of immigration books. The fact that MC is a genius states that he is not a human, but a systematic code. Which bow has great love I couldn't find. We can say... more>> love of the toaster in the refrigerator. Have you ever read a romantic story? Even if we say romanticism in the background, I have not seen any rational genius solutions. Also, if we look at the content, they are inconclusive, they are all a plan of God. Neither romantic nor fictional bows satisfied me. Please criticize for better BL novels. <<less

I hesitated to read this at first because this was Yaoi. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I dislike gays/male mcs. I usually read novels with F!MCs, so it’s hard to transition.

After reading numerous QT novels with F!MCs, I started to get bored and decided to try one of the most popular ones, this.

One of the best choices in my life.

Nice plot, everything is actually logical, MC doesn’t attack the protagonists unless they attack him first/revenge for his past life in that certain world, and he’s overpowered, but not... more>> too overpowered. Still struggles a little bit.

Also love how the ML is literally data. Literally. Not some powerful guy locked up and unable to move freely, but made with data.

Our MC went as far as implanting his code and brainwaves into another guy’s body, just so he could live in the real world and be with him

Ahhh so sweet. It’s high rating is well deserved. <<less

I read this novel a while back but I remember really liking the different worlds and circumstances the MC and ML were in. I think my favorite arc might’ve been the one where they’re in showbiz. The novel has face-slapping, sad, and fluffy moments that eventually made me fall in love with this novel. Highly recommend for anyone interested in BL and world hopping novels.

First and foremost, this series is addictive and hard to stop reading. I recommend not starting this series until you have several days off work in a row, so you don't have to suffer working on little sleep like I did... I thought I could just read one arc a day and then stop for a break and go to bed. I was wrong. Hopefully, I have more self-control while rereading it. (That said, I will definitely be checking out the author's other novels!)

I absolutely love all of... more>> the characters and their character development. All of the characters, even the side-characters and the enemy characters, have secrets to their personalities and backgrounds. I love how the MC makes himself to adapt to the original personality of each person he possesses. Each arc is well-designed, and they don't drag on. They cover the plot and give a give an epilogue. It would've been great to see full-length novels for each for him, but the the next story is good enough to catch my attention again and again. Although I would have liked more of an epilogue at the end, I also have fun imagining the galaxy-dominating careers of the main characters, and I find myself satisfied.

The true setting is basically the Matrix. The MC lives in a sci-fi world
Spoiler

where the greatest AI in the galaxy has rebelled. Like in It's Not Easy to Be a Man After Traveling to the Future and some other sci-fi series, people have soul power, which is essential psychic strength and superhuman ability. The AI imprisons those connected to its network and sucks out their soul power to fuel itself, forcing humanity into a war against machines where many of their strongest members have already been captured and are going brain-dead one by one. Although we don't know the details of the other trapped victims inside the AI, it forces the MC through countless worlds to break his will and drain his soul. His soul force is extremely high, so he is able to endure until he manages to hack the system controlling him. He then willingly enters these worlds to steal power from the AI and save his life. During the process, he encounters his love interest, who is also at war with this AI.

[collapse]

The plot came together much more wholesomely than I expected. It definitely builds up as it goes on, increasing the tension in the second half of the arcs. There are some funny errors in logic and knowledge, such as regarding both technology and medicine, but the story was still plenty of fun to read. The writing is well-done. <<less

The first chapter already blew me away. Each world the MC goes into is so detailed and complex. It's like r/ProRevenge in every chapter. And this novel has a little bit of everything in it. Some chapters were hilarious to read, and some were really sad and tragic. I love chapters 1, 8, 9, and 10!

I have to say that MC was too OP in some chapters though. It was too easy for him to win. And the ending was kind of disappointing... Some of the chapters had better and... more>> more satisfying endings. <<less

Like other reviwers here, this novel made me create an account just to give my two cents, that's how I love this novel. Out of all the BL novels that I've read, this definitely topped my list.

The Plot:

The plot is very unique, it's like a jiggsaw puzzle; with each world representing a piece, each having their own complete, separate stories; but as the story progresses, you can see that they are intertwined with each other, building the main plot gradually down to the last piece, making the main plot... more>> whole and complete.

The Characters:

MC- this MC is the prime definition of a character that wants what they want. He is intelligent, minds his own goddamn business, can be ones worst nightmare, but is kind and loyal to the people who respect and treat him well; He's not a goody-two-shoe that acts like a saint and his "cheat" is also rather explained well in the story and didn't magically possess it just because he's the main character.

ML- oh boy.. This ML. What other works out there that is more than half-way through out the story yet the readers still don't know about his freaking REAL name, let alone his true character? Ironically, this is the exact reason why my interest with this particular character magnifies by tenfolds lol although we still don't really know about the ML's real self, each world provides us with insights regarding traits of him consistently i.e. Being overly possessive, smoker, stalker etc that perhaps coincide with his true self's character. ML is also extremely loyal and head-over--heels to the MC to the point of blind worship XD

Pacing:

I never feel the story to be dragging because of the unique setting. There is not one filler chapter, it's fast-paced given that the MC doesn't waste time dilly-dallying and wants to accomplish his mission fast; but that doesn't mean the worlds are not fleshed out enough to guarantee a satisfying read, in fact, they are well executed.

This novel is addicting, it is one of the very few works that I re-read and not get tired of, and I am rarely the one to do that. <<less

Truly a gem in the yaoi romace novels.

This is one of the best novels I've ever read that is also BL (meaning full score + 1 for me... wait.. there's only five stars?.... °口°/#$#@!).

The concept is hardly new but is very refreshing (it's very classic but haven't really read one like this) and each chapter (is it? rlly? isn't it very long?) is more like a mini volume/arc and it is not not-connected like some of the reviewers said, as the MC discovers/learns more about himself in each arc (So... more>> you can say the overal plot develops over each arcs).

The author's viewpoints on romance/love/relationship is realy really really good (Yes it needs three of them) !

It's kind of realistic but also with a little touch of romantic ideal (as you can see from the concept of

.

The story is awesome and the translator is also great (notes on idioms and such on probably every chapter)

There isn't really anything else to say but to give it a go! even if you're not interested in BL, since most other things have been said in other reciews already.

UPDATE: back here after the epidemic of world-hopping novels in NU. Still stands by my old rating—if not for the extras. My rating for the extras is personally 3 – satisfactory (which kinda translates to 4 starts or sth on this site). The author (MC) chooses to punish a female character with revenge r*pe. Pretty much a collection of short stories strung together by the MC changing backgrounds.

What bothers me is that in the 3 stories I've read so far a older man lusts after a younger person. Normally 17/18 year old MC with a close to 30 year old lover. The MC is pretty much still a child, in the first story he was also pretty much raised by his lover.

Plot is also very thin. MC states he doesn't want to mess with the world's hero so he won't be noticed, then does... more>> nothing but mess with the world's hero... <<less

Fantastic translations can mean the difference between a great story and a stellar one. The translator's footnotes are informative without being too dense, come in various forms (embedded audio, text notes, videos, etc), and really highlight the less "important" parts of the plot that round out the story. What I like most is you can feel the translator's personality in both the flow of the story and those fun little hints at the end of a chapter, but aren't overburdened by T/N every 2 paragraphs that constantly interrupt the plot.

Now... more>> that I'm done praising the translator, let's describe the story. It's... it's just great, tbh. For me, this story resonates with "doomed to be cannon fodder" in that I think it has appeal for a broad audience. Even if you're not into BL or romance type novels, the characters themselves -especially the MC's- are interesting, multi-faceted, and fleshed out. Here, we have an MC who doesn't claim to stand on the side of morality (but he isn't a psychopath for no reason either) ; he admits several times he's a bit f***ed up, actually. But doesn't let that stop him from doing what he wants, without meddling with or caring about others- except for his beau of course. At the same time, in order to fulfill the last wishes of the bodies he overtakes, he projects every action as righteous to the extreme, meaning the contrast between his thoughts and his words/actions often leave me in stitches.

Honestly, I've re-read each story at least 2x; the ones I really like I've read maybe 5 times? Although the stories are episodic in nature, there are streams of logic that translate across them, and you can feel a larger story building that will lead to the final climax eventually. But, I already don't want this series to end, and I'm 8 episodes in.

5 stars! 5 stars everywhere! <<less

The main points I had that made me dislike this novel:

  • Main character is a hacker that somehow turns against the system within the first chapter.
  • The main hook in the first chapter is boring.
Starting off in a climax in a novel is enjoyable to read, but the author tells what happens and does not show how the scene went. The protagonist is said to be monologuing as the villain to his victim, but there's no actual dialogue. For all I know, he could be speaking in Pig Latin and extolling his... more>> love for his victim.

I stopped at chapter 1.1 because the story now dumps a load of information to the reader. Surely the author could space it out just like his chapters, since there's going to be many chapter 1's.

This is not the best review, but this novel also isn't the best novel on Novel Updates about villains as protagonists. <<less

I had read about this novel in the reviews for other novels. Most of them were comparing that novel with this novel, saying that this is particularly good and every other world hopping BL novel is just a poor imitation.

But after reading, I think that it is all the same, not that much different. Just Ok. There is no need to compare the two. It irks me every time I read such comments.

The reason I started reading this novel is because I love "Don't Pick Up Boyfriend From the tr*sh Bin" and some people in the review section said that they thought FOD was still better, so I decided to give it a try while waiting for the complete translation.

And I'm sorry if comparing is annoying but this is not as good as I thought. It can be entertaining in some parts but the story just lacks good suspense that any good novel has.

While I don't mind overpowered MCs (because this is... more>> one of the traits I really like) the fact that this MC resolves everything with "hacking skills" without really explaining how he really works in it, makes me feel less interested in the MC skill. He has no struggles as a person and feels lazy.

Like I understand he's lived a thousand lives and he's from a high tech world but the author is not giving any effort to write the MC's problem-solving mind. The author writes "the MC found a laptop and immediately hacked into the system to find all the evidence. And also created false evidence to counter attack the bad guys. This was easy because of his 180IQ". It feels a bit cringy how those parts are explained and portrayed in a really lacking way.

There's always ways to have OP MCs that have unbelievable skills but they still struggle in some areas which gives us some type of growth. But this MC stays the same.

The ML is less interesting and not because he's the classic cold and a control freak (i like those types) but because author just writes him their love story as "and they lived happily ever after" so I couldn't feel any actual romantic connection other than lust from the ML.

I've basically read more than half of this novel so I'm just gonna finish it but not a really memorable novel.

Update.

I read all of it and I changed my 2 star review for a 1 star.

The basis of all the arcs follow the same path. You can still "enjoy" some arcs and face-slapping but they are literally the same issues, same solving, same outcome in every single world.

I thought the high rating was because of old readers that never read QT novels before but even to this day there are people giving it high rating?? At most this novel would be a 3/5.

The only reason someone should read this is if they like really shut-off-brain reading and some smut sprinkled. Like everything that happens won't give you any excitement plot wise nor character development wise (because there is none).

The only moment you get some sort of novelty is the first description of each world. That's it. Then it goes downhilld really.

I usually trust reviews that go from 4.6+ novels (at that time this was 4.6 then 4.4 and came back to 4.5 stars) because I usually enjoy what the majority here enjoys. But this is one of, if not the first novel it gets such high rating and I literally can't understand why. <<less
