As I read this novel I realize that it is somewhat interesting, the battle with vampire, werewolves and etc. Is what I love to read the most. When I first read this novel I had my first impression that this novel might be written by a perverted pedo author who love to torture and torment little children such was the impact of volume 1.

Seriously it's weird that no one I mean no one reacts to volume 1, was the gore and brutality towards little kids not enough? Well volume 1... more>> is just 30 chapters a very short nonsense chapter that I advice you can skip reading and you won't lose any thing at all.

Spoiler

I never understood the purpose of volume 1 it's one of the biggest question for me in this novel. What was the purpose of hell camp? All I see is they are just killing kids left and right, they even have a lesson where the MC dissect one of the fallen kids who fail. The camp arc is really weird they have this coming of age ceremony where they drug the children and let the instructor have s*x with them (an orgy in short). After MC graduated it went poof like a smoke gone forever unmentioned.

What I remember in volume 1 Kids are force to train failure means death, They got F*ck up mentally and physically. And by the end of volume 1 MC was turned into none human and well make you think, what the f*ck just happen. The only one who was mention that is also present in the camp was mc's only friend and was also rank 1 who has an odd character plot. He was like a male version of plot armor

[collapse]

The real story start at volume 2 as I suggest just trash volume 1 and start reading volume 2. It's a good novel although their are some repetitive parts but it can easily be ignored. So far it's just another drag with a never ending loop so I might as well drop this novel and re read this later.

The main character has no agency and just drifts along to the author's whims. He'll also frequently go from "ruthless killer who's even more ruthless to himself" to "think of the people" at the drop of the hat. As if that's not bad enough you have to deal with a severe drop in translation quality once legion takes over. Protip: if you think "fishes" is the plural form of "fish" then you shouldn't be translating into English.

Could not get into, especially because of the wussy MC. Read the spoiler for a better idea.

Spoiler

MC is a kid living in the streets scrounging for food. He somehow sneaks out with a piece of bread from the big kids. He sees a young girl eyeing the bread. He gives her half, but for no reason she snitches on him to the other kids after she leaves. The other kids beat the MC up and are asking him where is the other half of the bread. No matter how much pain he is enduring, he does not snitch on the girl. Then again for no reason, the little girl uses a stone to smash the MC's head. Somehow the MC survives, and she tries to smash his head again, but stopped after some adults appeared. The adults noticed the bloodlust of the girl, and gave him a gun to shoot her. They told him if it was not form them, she woulld have killed him. The MC does not shoot her, so she leaves a psycho roaming the streets.

Quite good, I think some people should "read" everything said, not just skim through it. I say that because I noticed a lot of reviews on different novels rate a novel bad, one star, for reasons that are rather incorrect. In one of the earlier comments I read on this novel saying that the MC is a "pu**y" because he didn't kill a 5 year old girl that tried to kill him after he showed her kindness, at the time he is 6 years old, he has the opportunity to... more>> shoot her in the back but he doesn't considering he is leaving and will probably never see her again. Another person said about the time the vampires attack the human town and they are ordered to kill everyone, it was NOT for simply cold blooded killing, but because the vampire virus was so dangerous that if one infected person gets out to another city, that city could be destroyed from the spread vampire virus.

I think a bad review should only be written "After" reading all facts in the ark or mini ark. <<less

I have to say, this novel is much better than people rate it. This novel is mature and has graphic scenes, and if you dont want that then this is not for you!

Overall I think the novel is good and the translators have done a beautiful job on it so far. I love the steampunk cultivation wold, it is something a little different from the norm but still familiar.

The characters are well built. I think the previous reviewer who complains that the MC is a wuss because as a 5... more>> year old he doesnt murder another 5 year old needlessl should get his head checked out. Thus far the characters are actually believable, not caricatures, not monsters made flesh who do everything to the extreme. <<less

Okay. I understand what the previous reviewer was talking about with the orgy.

Spoiler

The orgy shows up at chapter thirteen (If you don't like that type of stuff - I don't - skip it). Just skip it. The orgy is of little importance to the overall plot. I personally hate that scene and I had to stop reading, because it seemed badly done and a bit too far for my tastes.

[collapse]

Despite this I really like this story. If you don't like the mature parts, I highly recommend you skip it.

There are parts that make you cringe at times - again - it depends on your preferences.

Overall this story is fairly unique, though a bit on the dark side. The MC is a thin and underfed child in beginning. His actions do not make him a wussy. His later actions enforce my point.

Certain parts remind me of The charm of soul pets (you may not see it in the beginning), but at the same time it is completely different. At least try and I hope you don't let one bad review stop you from making your own opinions. I had a different opinion before, now I'm sort of on the limbo. <<less

Highly recommended series. But, it has a lot of dark elements. So, age restriction is probably in need.

First off, TLed by Alyschu means that the grammar and pace is great. Now, onto the actual review.

I love the dark elements of this series, because the author is able to make the MC actually look like a villain in a world that is already very dark. The setting is great. And the concept of guns as weapons is refreshingly new in CN.

And vampires?Hell yeah to Silver!! There is obviously some back story... more>> to the MC, causing the super talented him to be robbed of it. yes, robbed of his talents. As a result, you are always drawn in to know how the author will make him an OP guy, because there actually is some logic and science involved here.

Currently, there is no romance involved. However, I am willing to bet that this has a great romance. Why? because the writer has already show great skills. Stuff that you almost never see in the opening chapters of a regulation CN appear. And for once, the MC doesn't care for women. So, if he actually will fall in love... The hype is real!!

Also, this actually seems to be written n a Western type format, so I am interested to see where it goes.

Also, there seems to be a lot of negative comments about a particular chapter containing an orgy.. Grow up. That is a single paragraph at most. And it is not even descriptive. As I mentioned, this series is mature.

This is Mango approved. <<less

So i've read up till the newest chapter, and I feel a lot of the reviews are unrealistic or written by people who haven't read enough of the story to give a proper opinion (thats just my opinion of course).

Here goes:

I kind of liked the beginning of the story, it seemed like a different sort of xian xia, and I also liked that it's with vampires/dark races, and set in a post-apocalyptic world. But thats where my likes end.

The story just drags on, there could have been so many exciting... more>> developments, possible plot twists, and cool supernatural elements from the darker side of the fantasy genre. But instead we get a cookie cutter MC that no matter the odds; always comes out on top. The author seems to think that by writing "suddenly" hundreds of times in each chapters, that the story telling/combat magically gets filled with suspense and excitement. Which of course is false.

The MC has an Arch Angel of Supreme Plot Amour hovering over him all the time. And the author really wants us/me/you to know how amazing and incredible everything he does is. By using almost half of every combat chapter writing about it. The author also does the same with every female appearing in the story, and in the latest chapter; Forces a 'comment' into the middle of a paragraph/sentence. About how white a female enemy's skin is, and how full her breasts are, and that the MC actually thinks she's beautiful. While he is trying to choke her to death - why is that information necessary to write? And especially in that scenario? - Lazy writing, powertrip, and wish forfillment thats my guess.

I'm sorry to say that this is imo a missed opportunity to make something amazing and different, instead it's a typically badly written xian xia thrown into what could've been an otherwise interesting setting. <<less

Novel is very good.

MC matures in between trainning camp from which he graduates in 18 chapter. So ignore reviews based on just 3 chapters.

MC is ruthless but not blood thirsty.

... more>> Pace is neither fast nor slow and there is growth in MC.

Setting is of war beteen two oppsite side (dark side which uses dark energy and light side which uses light energy. Fight is to take more territory for population and prosperity rather than good and evil) with sword and guns powered by cultivated energy.

+ there is no young master/noble and even in tranning camp nobles are butchered.

+good pace and setting

+little bit dark

+interesting characters

+MC with unknown past. <<less

I'm reading both versions, from Wuxiaworld and WuxiaDream. Honestly, the M/C just has no backbone. He is nothing but a soldier who follows orders, his team feels guilty but they still end up killing men, women, children, doing whatever the captain tells them, because as a soldier, you cannot ignore the orders of your Empire.

This senseless killing is just, so idiotic. I mean, you're talking about a situation where you can even save people, but nope, Empire orders them to die, so let's just obey and pull the trigger.

I really... more>> am trying my best to stick with this, but it's become hard when you think how much of a pssy our M/C is. This kid would probably eat a bag of dog sht if his captain told him to.

The brutality of the world is just, too much. I mean, I understand, you're at war with the dark races, but to just go around killing the humans because of some idiotic stuff, like "Oh, a few people are infected, so let's round up the survivors and kill them too, because they MIGHT be infected as well. No, let's not examine them to make sure, let's just kill them because we were ordered to do so."

It's sht like this where it just screams "I CAN NOT WRITE A NOVEL." <<less

So far, Monarch of Evernight is an incredible story. It’s a bit dark, but the protagonist does everything he needs to do to live his life according to his principles. He has a very human personality despite being able to be ruthless when he needs to. It’s also a very refreshing setting, in an apocalyptic, steampunk world. I was a bit worried whether or not I would like MEN, since I usually read “stallion” novels like MGA, but I had a great time reading this, and releases could not come... more>> fast enough. Alyschu’s team is still doing top-quality translation, and the English portrays the original meanings of the work very well. All in all, a fantastic read for anyone interested in gunfights and fantasy. <<less

The author clearly has not planned this story out. At all. He clearly is just having random ideas every 2 chapters and decides to abandon his old idea to go for his new one.

"Okay, I think I'll have my MC be trained to be some sort of special ops soldier guy. Wait, but wouldn't it be cooler if he were a vampire? Okay nevermind, he's suddenly a vampire now, and then he leaves the continent. I liked that one book with that bartender... bartenders are so cool. Why not make... more>> him a bartender in this new continent? Oh, and I'll just throw in virtual reality for some reason too because virtual reality is cool."

Clearly this author has no clue what he's doing. <<less

This is one of the most underrated novels on this site.

Some people have simply downrated it due to the starting chapters which I also admit were very boring (only contained training for the first 10-15 chapters). But after that, the pace has increased and volume 1 is nowhere good as volume 2.

I especially like the author's writing style. How he describes his world is one of the best on this site.

Some people also dropped due to the orgy that was shown but it wasn't even 2 paragraphs that were used... more>> to describe it. When you start to read a novel, you read the tags as well. It is clear that this will be a dark story. Underrating because a dark story is dark doesn't make any sense.

If you are a lover of dank themes and fantasy (vampires, werewolves, etc.) then this novel is for you. Don't miss it. <<less

it was boring. Not even the infamous orgy other reviews mentioned could spice it up; said orgy was pg13.

The beginning made little sense, girl for some reason try to kill him for giving her food? Betrayal makes not sense if there is no reason for the betrayal. Cultivation is the standard 9 nodes model.

Overall this story is very promising, the intro volume has set down a solid foundation with a great backstory for the MC. The pacing is extremely fast but it still covers enough details and does not feel rushed.

This story has been fairly gruesome so far, it is very descriptive and that probably made people rate it 1 star, it has an r-15 tag but it should probably be 18 due to the imagery.

The story really is quite brutal, if you are squeamish it may not be for you, but it... more>> is still very good. <<less

First of all 6-10 chapters is not enough to judge the direction of a novel.

Most of the low ratings were from people that barely got past the introduction of the novel, for those thinking if they should give this novel a try, ignore them. This novel is great, but it's not for pre teens and little kids, so therefore if you act like one of the above or think you're one of them don't read it. This novel cater more towards the adults as it has gore, s*x, violence, and... more>> tons and tons of action. What happened with the MC at the start does not depict or in any way show who and what the MC is, after all he was only, what 6 years old (?), when you were that age how would you act. I bet the MC at age 6 acts more mature than most of the readers giving this a one star rating.

What happens after the scene with the little girl is the MC will get picked up by the army where he is sculpted into a soldier. That is where the real story begins and where all the action is. This novel is full of twists and turns which will leave you wanting more. The MC isn't some childish whining brat that throws tantrums or attempts to face slap others, he just does it naturally, by the time it's over you'll be wondering "wtf just happened". After the first twist or when he got bit is when the story gets even better. So my advice is read until the end of volume one before leaving a bad review. <<less

The whole thing is boring. There's just people with guns going around to kill the dark races. No other special powers. Not to mention the MC is a wuss. Ruthless protagonist? You call letting a girl that the MC shared his food with then told other kids who beat him up followed by the girl trying to kill him by smashing his head with a rock but he lets her go free when he had a chance to kill her ruthless? Sorry, guess I don't know the meaning of ruthless.

I should have taken note of the ratings for this book before taking a read.

Lets start off with the fantastic beginning.

The MC lives at the very bottom of society and has a chance encounter with an expert.

... more>> What sets this apart from the others is that the MC isn't given an OP skill, instead he's dumped into a death camp where he has to survive.

This is where the story falls apart for me.

Who wants to read 10 + plus chapters focusing on one setting and the MC day to day life?

Once the MC is old enough to notice the difference in women suddenly the Author spends one or two chapters completely destroying any good females it might have had and reducing them to objects of s*x.

Then the first true piece of Vampire element finally shows in the name of energy the MC is supposed to cultivate.

Before this I was confused on my the translator kept insisting it was a Vampire story when the enemy was called Dark Creatures.

I also can't help but notice how much the author tries to squeeze a giant info dump into every chapter.

Despite the mostly glowing reviews, the ratings contradicts that. A large amount of people agree that this a good book but its not good enough for 4 stars.

And I am one of them. <<less

So, the only thing the MC knows how to do is follow orders. Even in the future chapters where he is no longer a soldier, it's still all he does. He doesn't have a single independent thought. Literally the entire novel, consists of just about everyone using and manipulating him. Most of those people are actually his friends. They constantly manipulate him and say it's for his own good. They tell him to do something or go somewhere and when he asks why they all say, "You'll know in future,... more>> " "There's no point telling you now...." And when they do that he just says, "okay!" and goes along with whatever they want. There's one part in particular which actually made me drop this novel...

Spoiler

MC is manipulated and drugged to sleep with two girls and get them pregnant. They are from powerful families, so if they get pregnant with his child these families will offer support to him as the father. This is the plan his so called best friend created. If I was manipulated and drugged to get a couple girls pregnant, I would be incredibly pissed off at both the girls and my best friend. Regardless of what their reason was it wouldn't change anything. When he found out? He didn't blame the girls and instead immediately tried to take responsibility. Noble sure, but dumb as sh*t. His friend? Pretty much smiled and said you should be grateful. Which of course he immediately accepted and the whole scenario was glossed over like it was no big deal.

[collapse]

That is only one such scene. The MC never makes his own decisions. Everything is decided by other people using him and he willingly goes along with it. <<less
