So somebody finally decided to try to translate this. I rounded up to a 3 for 'I like it'. I am feeling generous today.

It has the typical reincarnation into the past in an apocalyptic scenario. But the twist is that it is 99% integrated as a mmorpg/city building game. My favourite aspect is the city building and upgrade part. There is a main class for killing stuff and a secondary class for crafts. There are also unique classes and unlockable classes for the public too. It is fun.

Spoiler

But there are issues. The author is plain TERRIBLE with romance and endings. I read his previous work and it is just initimacy with a single potential lover. There are some signs of crush or favourness but that is all. The endings, this and the previous novel, ended very abruptly. It felt like he lost interest in continuing but did so only to finish it.

His previous work:

He wrote another novel that was also game-like but with the three kingdom theme. It had the SAME style, half ass romance with excuses and rushed poorly written ending.

He literally had like no romantic scenes with the girl. The girl just waited for him and waited for him and waited till the last chapters. And then, their supposedly mutual feelings are known and accepted. So when the novel was ending, the author crammed their "romance" in like two lines. They got married and lived happily ever after.

[collapse]

In short, it had a:

1. Fun start.

2. Decent and enjoyable progress.

3. Declining or deteriorating climax.

4. Shitty end.

Lastly, whoever named this as 'Doom Lord' should just take a shotgun and just start shooting his/her feet then legs then between the legs then the stomach then the chest and finally, the head. This 'translator', aka butcherer, turned a world saviour into a demonic lord.

It was interesting a bit in the beginning but then it becomes way too boring and idiotic. MC is just s*upid and the author is an idiot praising MC for being ahead of everyone and let everyone catch upto him in 1 month, contradicting himself. The author contradicts himself a lot. The author also throws around numbers and stats really doesn't matter very much.

Another example is the author says
Spoiler
  • MC will be cold blooded
  • He says he will not care about anyone much and then ends up saving people who he doesn't
    even know, in thousands.
  • Says it's a dog eat dog world and you can trust no one here. Then he makes a guy head of his station (his second village) who he has known only for few hours. Makes another woman village head of a different station just after knowing her for 10 minutes (I think it was even less then that).
  • Refuses to save people who live in different cities who are just 10-15km away coz they might not be alive just after couple of days after apocalypse, then to save the female lead parents, just 2 people, he travels about 200 km 2 months after apocalypse.
  • MC is a s*upid sh*t lord, simple as that.

40 chapters in the raws. The story is ok with nothing mind blowing nor anything different. It's your typical time travelling with old memories changing future plot. Would not recommend reading the "translated" English version as it is a mtl with 0 editing and quite a bit of information is either misrepresented or missing entirely.

Apparently this novel seemed to give evidence of a rational MC and his town building. Despite this it quickly grows boring as you'll see the repetition of the MC doing the same actions to grind his city higher. Even with over 250 chapters, somehow the other cities stand close to MC's power despite the MC constantly trying to stunt their growth. Explanations keep going on how it'll matter "later" yet it seems more like someone saving for a retirement plan and continuing to read said story. No sense of urgency... more>> in the novel despite it being an apocalypse that I fell asleep multiple times reading this. The novel is written in a manner of someone writing up his homework 5 minutes before class starts. Wouldn't recommend wasting your time despite its initial premise. <<less

Better story and more realistic than God and Devil World at least. I actually like this more than that, even though they're similar stories. This MC doesn't make ret*rded decisions/actions. And most importantly, less tr*sh characters than in GDW. In fact, I don't think there's any so far.

I was actually surprised on how readable the translation was, given how so many people kept mentioning it, it made me expect it to be as bad as so many of those poorly edited MTL. However, I do agree that the translator butchered... more>> some of the words and sentences.

For example, "Each lifting a small order, enhance magic attack by 3%"

WTF? How did you even translate to something like this? It's obviously supposed to mean something like each increase in order (aka level/rank up). These errors happen a lot. <<less

The plot is good, that's what attracted me, sadly its like xxw prior editors came by. The 4 stars is solely plot wise.

It's game world mixed with apocalypse and second chance. I really like this types of genre so I'm giving it 5 star. The story is moving quite quickly and interesting. The MC is using his previous life experience to get territory and I can't wait till the territory get bigger. It's too bad he doesn't have any family as it will be more interesting if he does.

This is a very good survival novel with the typical character who manages to go back in time, the catch is, it's not by 30, 20 or 10 years, but just 1 - which in fairness is really not that long, however it allows the protagonist to have one hell of a head start.

The MC is astute and understands that he's only going to have an advantage initially so he does everything in order to get as many thanks to prior knowledge! I think, hope and believe this novel will... more>> get better after the 1st year is up - then we'll see what's up ^^ <<less

This is your typical "survival apocalypse with rpg elements" novel with the added twist that there's a solid city building element tacked on. I get the feeling that the majority of the bad reviews are coming from the poor translation, and that's warranted. The first 20 or so chapters are really rough, and even at my current point there are still quite a few errors popping up, but grammatical errors aside I'm still really enjoying the read. What saves this novel is the city management aspect, I absolutely love base... more>> builders and this novel manages to scratch that itch better than most other novels out there. It pretty much reads as a city building mmo and that's basically it. If you're looking for basically any of the elements they talk about in a writing class (plot, character development, world building, etc) you're not going to find it here. You will however, find a pretty entertaining city builder read. So if you like upgrades, building construction, recruitment, city defense, territory expansion, and a whole myriad of RPG elements, you'll probably enjoy this read. <<less

Doom lord feel like an interesting story. I like the skills and I will really like to see how the story unfolds. The character of having a second chance is interesting. If you are looking for a kingdom building novel this one shows a lot of promise.

The novel was pretty decent. There weren't too much exciting moments, but neither were there disappointing. Recommended if you like slow plot progression.

Good points of the novel:

Spoiler

1. This is one of those rare novels where in apocalyptic setting humans actually battle monster and other alien species rather than other humans, as I say this, the depictions of human cruelty were realitevely small and nationalism was almost non-existent.

2. MC is pretty good too. One of the most moderate ones out there (in xianxia at least). He isn't a goody two shoes but neither is he going on massive slaughtering sprees. When he goes on to conquer other cities and countries he doesn't just kill off all the opposers, but if you don't join him, you are gonna be defending against alien species all by yourself in the future.

3. Side characters that are close to MC get a decent amount of spotlight, and it's shown how their abilities progressively develop.

[collapse]

Negative points of the novel:

Spoiler

1. The almost non-existent romance (seriously there is even less romance than in Er Gen's novels), though it might not feel so bad, because he didn't really have interaction with any other female character beside his future wife (and even that was in extremely low amounts).

2. There are several skills and artifacts that are valuable and could help him and his city in several situations but aren't even mentioned once more till the end.

3. All the other planets / worlds were left totally unexplored. (The entire story was on Earth, only time he was in other world was trough the instance dungeon and that was for ~15 chapters)

4. Ending was both rushed (many stuff were left unexplained and MC promoted more than 2 major realms in several paragraphs on the last chapter) and open (he just ascended to higher realm with his wife and left to us readers to imagine what kind of adventures he will have there), but again - it might not feel so bad since he basically finished everything he needed to (albeit it was in a few paragraphs of the last chapter)

A promising story at first, interesting background building, characters until the apocalypse that is. Suddenly the author abandon everything. Whether it's drama, or characters. It just full of killing monster, and the characters is just yes man, exist only to make up the numbers population of the city or town that MC build.

It's like the author fantasy in his own wonderland.

Heavenly Calamity plus settlement management. That's it really, nothing I can say about story, hero everyone know, no gore, no drama, no suspense, no adventure. 30 chapters is all I could take.

A mix of good and bad. The good is pretty good, the bad is quite bad.

The Good:

Spoiler
    1. The RPG state of the world is surprisingly fun to read about. I suppose I'm the type that just likes game elements in novels. The later updates that gradually transition the world to xianxia life were dealt with well.
    2. The MC is fairly competent, in general. Good RPG gamer instincts I guess. His growth (stats/class/bloodline/gear/skills) is worth enjoying.
    3. No nationalism. Thank god.
    4. The kingdom building and later wars are set up quite interestingly.
[collapse]

The Bad:

Spoiler
    1. The MC does tend to do some s*upid or hypocritical things at times. s*upid: While in disguise, he freely uses ice (only he's known to use ice in the world at the time) and brings along a priest (only known to be seen in his village at the time). When he's recognized, he's confused why. In another example, he got a scroll for a skill that could change time flow speed. First reaction: Confusion, wondering if that was even useful. Forgot about the skill later on by the time he was qualified to learn it. Hypocritical: After spewing a bunch of pragmatic lines explaining why he must be cold-blooded and can't go save these soldiers' families or that bunch of suffering refugees not far away, the guy goes on a long trip to save the parents of some random pretty girl he met recently. He even justified it as an act that'll show how much he values his subordinates, going so far for one of them...
    2. Robotic dialogue. Really, I can't feel much emotion in the lines. Maybe author is just bad at writing speech lines or characterization?
    3. Characters are extremely simple. Love interest is 'a pretty girl with a kind heart and instakill ability'. Not much beyond that. No detail. Friends pretty much all have the same personality - trust MC, like MC, fight for MC, bros. Can't tell 'em apart. Extremely hard to pick out even one character that goes through visible character growth.

Hrm, review had been too long and was more like a summary. I'll just give pros and cons.

Oh, and score is due to the 'TL' of this. Story itself is at least a 4.

Pros:

... more>> MC is a mage.

MC makes very nice use of his future knowledge, though it doesn't last him forever since he only lived 6 months after doomsday.

MC and friends are all quite OP.

Lack of nationalism since it's Earth (or the remnants of it) versus the otherworldly invaders.

The game-like system and subsequent explanation for it was done nicely.

Cons:

Romance of any kind, relationships of any kind, ships of any kind, all of them don't exist. It's a sausage fest of MC and monsters he kills.

TL calls this Doom Lord which makes him sound evil, but the actual name is Doomsday Lord as in he's the lord of this place after Doomsday arrives. Basically, wdf is with the name?

Lots of grinding. If MC isn't grinding levels, then he's grinding skills and alchemy.

MC and friends are a bit too OP... steamroll over all Earthlings, so their enemies are just the invaders.

Power growth too fast. It's like everyone is only like level 40, but MC's friends are in the hundreds and MC himself is about to hit max level...

I like the story, I really do. It could be vastly improved, but it's well done for what it is. I wasn't bored when I finished it, and only a bit disappointed due to the romance part. Sighs... that romance... <<less

Though at first glace the premise is promising and should be a thrill, Ii's subpar work of an author of an lesson on bad writing along with translation that does not for it. Why minor inconveniences can be ignored such bland usage of English is most disappointing aspects of in this series It's at the level of "I walked the dog" and not "I walked the blue dog". As the reviews below say, this is most boring piece of work.

I do not recommend this series, for anyone.

Firat of all, if you decide to read thia story... READ XMTL'S TRANSLATION AND NOT THE OTHER ONE THATT IS OLDER!!! I accidently read the older one first as Im used to pressing the last page, but the translation was god awful, if it wasnt for me looking up this story to see if theres a better translation because I like distopian, /apocalyptic stories, I wouldve likely rated this a 1 star... But after reading a little more, I still got dissapointed with the story. Like most rpg game element... more>> novels, the author goes too much into stats, skills, items, et cetera that becomes big filler. The system / training to become stronger isnt the best either. Anyways, if you decide to give this a try, read xtml's translation <<less

Mmorpg with city building elements. That's pretty much it.

The characters have no depth.

It's like God and Devil World done wrong, no orignality, no substance, no suspense, this story is mediocre at best.

Endured till chapter 200, it keeps getting boring and boring. Absolutly no logic.

He says how great he is, how fast he did things but on the other hand everyone else pretty easily caught up him and his friends.

Numbers keep floating on air and I doubt author remember what he wrote former chapters.

No personality. All of them are one sited characters. (Even mc)

Nothing exiting. He goes here and there

This is one of my Favourite novel so far. It begins as a typical Back to the Past setting within a Monster apocalyptic world. However the interesting twist comes with the ability of the MC to build his own town and improve it bit by bit. The levelling system is also more realistic as it relies on cultivation time and not on the amount of monsters that u kill etc giving u exp. Overall very interesting and would totally recommend more people to take a look at it and read... more>> it. <<less
