Professor System has issued a mission: to rescue the gentle, kind and tragic protagonist shou of the novel “The Exceptional Furnace”.

Song ‘Scholar-Tyrant’ Qingshi: “Don’t worry, Professor! I can definitely ensure the patient’s recovery!”

In the Immortal Realm:

Song Qingshi praised from the bottom of his heart: “My patient is the kindest and most beautiful little angel in the world.”

Yue Wuhuan quietly washed the blood from his hands and smiled softly: “En.”

Song Qingshi swore from the bottom of his heart: “As a doctor, I will never covet nor take advantage of my beautiful patient!”

Yue Wuhuan took full and complete advantage of the doctor and smiled softly: “En.”

Song Qingshi affirmed from the bottom of his heart: “Under my loving care, the patient will never be blackened!”

Yue Wuhuan secretly hid his monstrously evil thoughts and smiled softly: “En.”

At that inextinguishable summit, upon thousand and thousands of soul lamps, he sat on the god’s throne of white bone, guarding that piece of stone.

“You are the only one in this world who treats me tenderly.”

“And so, you are the only one I treat tenderly.”

Scholar-tyrant Song was absolutely delighted: “Professor! Can I get full marks?”

Professor System exploded: “You fool! You saved the wrong person!”

I'm speechless, no words can describe how much I love this novel. The story is amazing, the characters are compelling and fleshed out. Everything that happens have a reason. The way the author weave the story made me hooked into it, made me love the characters, made me love their world. This novel have become my no.1 in my favorite bl list.

It’s as if the author expounded on a beautifully made up Chinese folklore fairytale and cleverly weaved it into a story about hope, failure, everlasting love, trust and redemption. There are comedic elements as a result of the main character’s social ineptness and optimistic outlook. I read the Chinese text and as with all Xianxia stories, I prefer to read the original texts as it is inevitable there will be “lost in translation” moments.

I do not agree that the main character is weak. He is capable of protecting himself with... more>> his innate “duo fire” ability. He does cry but does that make him weak? I did wonder why there are moments where he seemed out of character and it is explained at the end of the story. His character evolved.

I enjoyed this more than any of Priest’s books. <<less

To be honest, I didn't have high expectations before I read this novel. Because the beginning of the arc seems like the common transmigration trope—but with many triggering tags that I must mention here, as Wuhuan suffered from continuous r*pe, was manipulated, has severe mental disorder, etc. And it's not only Wuhuan who suffered the tragic fate, I warned you.

There's so many inconsistency during the first arc, but no worries, it's all deliberate and it will be explained at later chapters, you just have to bear with it and keep... more>> reading.

I admire Qingshi's perseverance. He goes from not knowing anything, having to stutter and stumble through his steps, learning slowly but finally he succeed! His seemingly never ending missions are not failures, and he willingly stuffers so many hardships for Wuhuan. Such beautiful blue stone 💙

Wuhuan is so unfortunate and really pitiful... All that happened to him is not his fault. I'm glad that he got the happy ending and got to be freed from the shackles of that hellish hand. <<less

Absolute 1000000000/10, the plot twists came like a storm, with heart-wrenching dog blood and with just the right amount of dog food, honestly so amazed. For those that are a bit uneasy on anything sexually abusive or psychological abuse, this novel has quite a lot of that so it might not be the one for you, but it ends quite peacefully so read at your own discretion. Thank God for translators, or else I wouldn't have been able to find such a good novel. Definitely recommend for a good read!

Amazing! Everything was completely thought through and there were no plot holes. The characters were multidimensional and complex and their actions and behaviour were believable.

The story was at times heartwrenching and at times so sweet and lovely.

It did have some rough scenes so I do recommend people to read the trigger warnings before embarking on this journey.

Much love to the translator! ❤️

In fact, I leave very few reviews, But this is a story I'm so wonderful that I can't keep silent! I want to say that at the beginning of the plot it was very dark, cruel, violence, sadness, pain from the fact that at first I threw it, but then I decided to reread it to the end and you know, I didn't regret it. Later, this story was so beautiful that it evoked the deepest feelings from my heart. I fell in love with these characters, they were so... more>> alive, so realistic that it seemed to me that I myself was present in this story. MC God, he's so beautiful that I just got drunk on him, he's so hardworking, such a bun, I like his reasonableness, his cute features, his perseverance, I like his vivacity. He's not s*upid, he's not a mega genius, but he's not cold-blooded and he's not too kind. He knows how to stand up for himself, he knows how to answer for good with good, and evil responds to evil. ML He should be an example of all yandere, he is such a bun, he went through so much But still managed to keep some of his goodwill, he respected his partner loved cherished, I really love yandere men but he was the most divine for me. I liked him, he's his judgment, I have nothing against him for me, he's the best! What can I say about the plot, the plot was very good for me, it was unusually exciting and very interesting, but I started to feel very BAD, my God, he went through so many things I wanted to cry for him, I wanted to take him to me to love and make him happy. In this story there are many secrets that you would never have thought of yourself that such a thing could happen in this story, I will tell you one thing you will not get bored reading this story, I definitely recommend it! i honestly didn't expected this novel to turn out to be such sweet bitter, specially given the synopsis but damn I lost count of the amount of time I've cried while reading this.

as someone who's situation is very similar to MC of this novel and find it hard to express emotions in words, than I would just leave one word for this masterpiece; marvellous.

This is a plot-heavy xanxia, with great characterisation and development and a particularly surprising reveal towards the end, that the author obviously intended from the start. I felt that the great reveal about the MC was not only fitting, but also beautifully poetic. It was a surprisingly complex novel, touching on many heavy themes like su*cide, s*xual trauma, acceptance, revenge, forgiveness, discrimination etc... The portrayal of s*xual s*avery in this novel is one of the most difficult to read, but it is just the first few chapters. this touches the deepest and darkest side of humanity, the author doesn't sugarcoat things especially the way it describes what wuhuan went through and it also shows the process he went through to be dependent and yandere-ish to MC. Their relationship was the best thing I read about from MC helping ML and helping him to see the world as it is. The background story was executed well enough no loose ends

This is a really beautiful story. Sometimes it was really hard to keep reading, but in the end, I'm glad that I finished it. In the beginning, there are a few chapters that are hard to read because of the abuse and psychological condition of ML. The condition of ML was described very well: he is traumatized by abuse; he was a s*ave and lived in hell. He went through a lot of horrible things and even wanted to kill himself. After he was saved by the MC, he was... more>> in a horrible condition, but step by step, with the MC's help, he got better. From this moment on, it gets easier to read.

I loved this story because the characters are well-rounded. Yes, sometimes it seems that they act foolishly, but if you keep reading, you will see and understand the reasons behind their behavior. If you want to understand why ML was so unlucky, why MC was so socially awkward, or what's going on in the novel, you have to finish reading, because nothing is as it seems. Even if you think that you know and understand, the ending will prove that you were wrong. Of course, a novel has its flaws, but the overall story is really good, and it's worth reading. Please don't rate the story unless you finish reading because the ending is important and explains everything. There is an important plot twist that changes everything. The author misled all of us in the beginning, and that is what made this story so interesting.

Also, be mindful of the tags; they are here for a reason. This novel is not light reading, but the story itself is beautiful, and I would recommend it. <<less

This is NOT a quick transmigration, I have no idea why people wrote this in the reviews.

First and most important - it has one of the most satisfying endings. I don't know what is so special about it, but it was neat and pretty and simple and cute. It IS unbelievable, because 80% of the endings s*cks, even if the overall plot was great.

And, what is more strange - I liked the ending more than the plot itself)))

It has almost no plot advancement. The whole novel is concentrated... more>> on the main couple relationship. It is, again, one of the most sturdy relationships out there. It always makes you worry, walking on edge, bringing abusive thoughts over and over again - only to smash them into dust. I really enjoyed their emotional connection.

Still, as I said, it completely lacks in action or any plot movements. Gladly it only has 120 chapters, so... I guess it is pacable (made me bored a lot of times though)

Would recommend it because of the relationships - they are great and they are the only focus of the novel. <<less

COMPLETE AND UPDATED REVIEW - Continued after Original Halfway Review
Original Halfway review will remain so as to give people the chance to see the entire thought process and progression of my review.

08/12/21
Hmmm.. Half way through it and think just gotta take a break from it.. Spent an entire day reading so far and while I know roughly what is gonna happen because I'm a sucker for spoilers to make sure its HE and interesting plot beyond the summary wanted to do a review of it up to this point and hopefully can do a full review later down the line!

SO. I can say its not a bad novel up to this point! Its quite fun to see MC trying to navigate the world with no knowlege due to having burried himself in medical books vs Novels!

ML is also super interesting and like the author hasnt used r*pe as flimsy plot device thats brushed over and magically disappears and all is fine and dandy.

You can see the author has definietly been very methodical and that everything happens for a reason.

However at around the halfway point it does feel somewhat drawn out, the MCs 'innocent' blindness has really sort of worn out for me and now im just at here less enjoying the plot and more just like 'so.. When's he gonna find out? When's the system gonna reappear?' and while the occasional thing comes up thats interesting or seems to move the story along at the same time I'm also tempted to just skip if it wasnt for the fact I know the author has included information that while seems pointless or unneded right now, it will come clear later on.

As for romance? So far? Hard to really put into words. Primarily because up to this point its clear the MLs feelings yet only now the MC is starting to realise they have feelings and hard to really put an opinion on their ""romantic"" interractions thus far bar last few chapters ive read..

Like I said its not a bad novel up to this point! And genuinly couldnt outright say "oh I dont like this novel" so far, but definetly gotta take a lil break from continuing because feels little bit like ive been jogging on the spot; tired out yet not moved far.

UPDATED COMPLETED REVIEW
10/12/21

After completing the novel I can finally give a full review and honestly I still do believe it is worth reading!

Took me a while to figure out what I found so hard about reading this and honestly I think it's the fact the timeline is linear for the most part. We have the occasional flashbacks and some time skips but the story overall is as continuous timeline. I think if it had been broken up a little bit m0re maybe not wouldn't have felt as dragged out on the first half? That is more of a personal preference thing based on previous novels I have read though.

Now for the story itself. Honestly I enjoyed it a lot, it takes the concept of Transmigration and adds a refreshing and new twist and perspective on what Transmigration means in a story and how it's handled and I have yet to have found another novel that has gone from this kind of angle so was definitely fun! It doesn't feel like an afterthought and there are foreshadowing hints dotted throughout which aids it in not feeling like an afterthought.

Spoiler

Only criticism I have over the plot is the use of Human Cauldrons. Not for the fact they are used but the term was thrown around but what the term usually entails as from my prior knowledge Human Cauldrons are a way of increasing ones cultivation yet this didn't seem to get touched on at all. This could however be a conscious choice of the author or may just be an oversight. Basically the Human Cauldrons in this novel are just s*x s*aves.

[collapse]

The characters personalities make a lot of sense towards the end and you understand particularly why MC is like what he is like as well as ML being like what he is like. The side characters were handled pretty well and didn't overshadow the focus of the main plot which can sometimes happen. Everything ties in well with their thoughts and motivations. And not to mention the ending is well tied up for the Main character's that it feels nicely concluded. There was even a couple scenes that brought a lump to my throat!

My biggest criticism actually would be of the summary. While it's not totally inaccurate I would say it's slightly misleading in terms of what to expect of the Novel. Hence why my halfway review pointed out wondering where the system was. Not exactly a spoiler so haven't put a spoiler warning for this detail.

Overall Mistakingly saving the Villain is a really fun book and definitely worth having a read of, while I think the timeline layout could be tweaked to avoid midway drag that I had felt I can honestly say its a good book and the characters are enjoyable to read and everything in the plot has a reason even if it doesn't seem to make sense at first. Don't let the dragged on feeling deter you, easiest way to rectify that feeling is taking a break from it if you are binge reading, As you can see I only took a day break from it and was quickly drawn back into it!

What a fun ride. At first you think it's just your typical transmigration/system novel, but the last arc drastically expands the scale of the world and changes everything.

And it was clear this was the author's intention from the start. They left hints the whole way so this wasn't some idea they randomly came up with to conclude the story.

Amazingly written and the interaction between SQS and YWH is so fun and cute. And I love how SQS basically never judges or tries to change YWH's personality and accepts him for... more>> who he is, an obsessive yandere and all that. <<less

Many times, by the end of a novel, I am impatient to finish and be done with it. This novel however, hurt to put down. It hurts to part with these characters.

Repetitive plots, one dimensional characters, gaping plot holes... these are the ever present flies in the ointment of most webnovels. None of that here. This novel was a such a breath of fresh air.

I was geared up for another typical yandere BL with an as*hole ML but aaaaaagh. Why is this ML so cute? So endearing? So... exemplary? If... more>> there were some sort of award for Most Lovable Yandere, this guy would win it hands down.

Spoiler

The ML is undoubtably a yandere. His fixation with the MC is intense to the point of being unhealthy, but the ML himself understands that this obsession does not give him a license to do whatever he wants to "get" the MC. In fact, he is so broken that he is afraid to get too close to the MC because the MC is his pillar of faith. He sees the MC as the only unsullied land in a dirty world, and he himself is not worthy of touching the MC because he sees himself as dirty. It really broke my heart to read his inner feelings.

The ML getting salty and jealous seeing the MC get along with anybody but him is a standard trope in both BL and het novels. This usual ends up with the ML punishing their respective counterpart by violently kissing them or— (beleaguered sigh) — some extreme bedsport, but none of that tired sh*t here.
There is a secondary ML in the story that plays a pretty pivotal role in the plot, (yes, he exists for reasons other than to ferment the love between our two main leads,) and although ML does get mu*dery at times, I think it's justified. The secondary ML also isn't a nice guy and wants to kill the ML so this isn't like some unprovoked hostility like in most stories.

Since the MC is a big shot doctor, there's also a bunch of side characters that he interacts with, such as members of his sect and GASP, patients that he has to TOUCH in order to cure! But the ML never tries to break his wings or hide him from the world, as much as he wants to. Instead, he tries his hardest to become the MC's best assistant, learning medical skills and dealing with the sh*t the MC isn't good at, such as interpersonal relationships and money management.

Of course, these actions come with very yandere ulterior motives. The ML wants to become so excellent, so accommodating that the MC will never leave him. (MC ultimately confronts him about this and tries to tell him it's okay to have his own goals and preferences instead of becoming the perfect accompaniment. Seriously, the relationship between these two is such a treat to read.)

Nearing the end of the story, when the truth of the world comes to light, ML realizes that his yandere trust issues are the crux of the matter and ultimately the cause of his fate. The MC and him have actually been through many many many reincarnations and each time, his lack of trust in the MC end up sabotaging what could have been a good ending. After realizing the MC will never leave him, he learns to trust him and they have an ACTUAL HONEST DISCUSSION. How often does this happen in this genre? Almost never. It's a beautiful turning point, and it makes me curse my garbage tier Chinese. I would have liked to read it in the original language.

The ML has gone through what I would consider the most tragic backstory I've ever read. And yet, he is the least offensive kind of yandere, though he has the most "excuse" to act out and be awful.
Entire family mu*dered? Check. Betrayed by his master? Check.
Sold into s*avery? Check....

Raped repeatedly over many years and by a literal horde of people? CHECK.

WHAT. No. See, this sort of backstory doesn't happen to the ML in most novels. He's not allowed to be vulnerable in that way for some reason. Maybe it's kind of dark of me to say this, but I enjoyed seeing it written this way because this s*xual abuse backstory exclusively happens to shous and (sigh) yeah, I'm tired of hearing about it.

Anyone can be vulnerable to s*xual attack, and it's not like being strong "masculine" dude will exclude you from being a victim. Being a victim of s*xual attack doesn't make you less of a man. Also, it's okay to not be okay with s*xual trauma, and it isn't something you have to get over right away. MC is very understanding and let the ML heal on his own schedule. He could have taken a million years and I don't think the MC would have cared. He would have stuck with him all the way. Thank you author for writing it this way! Thank you!

[collapse]

On the MC's side, I've read some criticism in the reviews that call him weak and s*upid. Um, are we reading the same book?

Spoiler

When is he weak? Is it when he's secretly mu*dering the people who betrayed the ML and gifting the souls to ML to use as stress balls? Or is it when he's tanking the heaven's wrath for the ML with his nascent soul? Is it when he's single-mindedly nursing a suicidal ML back to health? Maybe when he's tenaciously going though 1, 350 grueling reincarnations to save his man?

And how can you say he is s*upid? Sure he's becomes a potato when trying to talk to people other than ML and a few other people he's familiar with, but he's a genius doctor with a sect behind him. He's survived in the cultivation world despite being some random rogue cultivator. Maybe he has difficulty dealing with interpersonal relationships, but he's racked up a lot of favors from saving people over the years. It's this identity that allowed him to save the ML in the first place despite not being very powerful at combat. And even though he's not the most powerful, he's pretty decent. He has two otherworldly fires sealed in him for alchemy and mu*dering purposes. How weak can he be?

Just because he can't thrown down like some overpowered YY protagonist doesn't make him weak. And being something of a brick at emotional matters doesn't make him s*upid.

And can I take a moment to commend the author for writing a "shou" that is sexually proactive and not some shrinking virg*nal violet?

[collapse]

And can I take a moment to gush about their origin story?

Spoiler

So the true identity of the ML is the Phoenix god, and the author really adds a layer of complexity to his persona by giving him birdlike characteristics, like an obsession with shiny objects hahaha.

The MC is originally a rock refined by the Celestial Emperor and used to seal the underworld flames. (Thus explaining the origin of the two flames in his body. And his occasional obtuseness.) Of course the ML becomes infatuated with this particular shiny rock. Later when this rock becomes sentient, he goes from wanting to possess this rock as an object to wanting to possess this rock as a person. Proceeds to fly by MC's window every morning on his way to work, showing off his gorgeousness, complete bird behavior, lol.

I wanted to laugh when the Celestial Emperor finally married the two leads to each other. Like, can you imagine if you made some random thing, like a doorstop. This doorstop then proceeds to gain sentience and have a love affair with your good friend/employee and then you have to officiate their marriage? Hahaha.

[collapse]

Props to Chrysanthemum Garden for translating this book because the beauty of this relationship would have been greatly affected if I had to MTL it. <<less

It started getting annoying. I get it that MC was aromantic or something but he's not supposed to be s*upid. This obliviousness is irritating. I cannot like An Long. He just keeps on taking advantage and sexually harassing MC. Wow so annoying. I just want ML to be happy.

And after I read through the novel, I have absolutely no regrets. The plot was good, with twists and turns that just blow your mind!

And I also love how both MC and ML had progressed and developed throughout the story. They had a form of trauma, especially the ML, but that was addressed and not kicked to the curb like some stories I've read.
