Professor System has issued a mission: to rescue the gentle, kind and tragic protagonist shou of the novel “The Exceptional Furnace”.

Song ‘Scholar-Tyrant’ Qingshi: “Don’t worry, Professor! I can definitely ensure the patient’s recovery!”

In the Immortal Realm:

Song Qingshi praised from the bottom of his heart: “My patient is the kindest and most beautiful little angel in the world.”

Yue Wuhuan quietly washed the blood from his hands and smiled softly: “En.”

Song Qingshi swore from the bottom of his heart: “As a doctor, I will never covet nor take advantage of my beautiful patient!”

Yue Wuhuan took full and complete advantage of the doctor and smiled softly: “En.”

Song Qingshi affirmed from the bottom of his heart: “Under my loving care, the patient will never be blackened!”

Yue Wuhuan secretly hid his monstrously evil thoughts and smiled softly: “En.”

At that inextinguishable summit, upon thousand and thousands of soul lamps, he sat on the god’s throne of white bone, guarding that piece of stone.

“You are the only one in this world who treats me tenderly.”

“And so, you are the only one I treat tenderly.”

Scholar-tyrant Song was absolutely delighted: “Professor! Can I get full marks?”

Professor System exploded: “You fool! You saved the wrong person!”

I never thought I would be able to read something like this. It made me cry as much as it made me enlightened. If you get pass your prejudices in the start you'll be able to see how much of a gem it is.

The romance was more sweet than heart wrenching. It didn't feel unnatural at all, the author gave reasons for it and it made it so much better. Their love was like how sand will naturally be formed after rocks are hit millions of times by waves.

The plot... more>> was also so 🤌🤌

Theres thousands of layers, you'll realize how much the author thought about it, it's like every step was already planned. THE PERSON WHO MADE THIS IS A ONE IN A MILLION.

Just read the warnings from the tranlator, if your fine with it and read it despite all that..... You'll be blessed with the best experience.

Also love how the side character were given some depth. Kinda regretted how they didn't put more extras for what happened to them but aside from that it's perfect. <<less

The ML is a yandere, but he doesn't cross the line into breaking the reader's ability to cheer for the CP. Meanwhile, it's fun to read about the MC being a benevolent doctor and helping the world. The 2nd LI feels a bit like he's just there for most of the story, but he doesn't eat up too much space.

However, the final twist that

This is an absolute masterpiece through and through, the story brilliantly done every step of the way with no waning of attention and no basic cliches, I wasn’t able to predict this story at all and I cried happy tears in the end. I’ll say it again because I can’t praise this work highly enough: Absolute masterpiece.

Well.. It was somehow decent, dropped it at the system thing. I couldn't withstand the second-hand embarrasment after it tbh.. Especially the mice.. What was it with Song Qingshi and the mice, seriously.. That was weird. His "feelings" towards Yue Wuhuan also felt too rushed. He said he wouldn't think of a patient that way, yet he doesn't even try to deny it later. I didn't like the An whatever guy either. He felt useless and annoying. Also, the way Song Qingshi was sooo oblivious made me sort of irritated.... more>> Overall I don't think I'd recommend this, you'll waste your time. There's certainly better novels to read, especially in the Transmigration genre.. I suggest If you want a good novel, go read Priest or something.. <<less

Wow, just wow. The author takes every Danmei trope available and turns in on its head.

I absolutely love this book. Yes, it's dark and angst filled. There's a lot of abuse and just awful behavior.

Buuut, there's also healing, hope and unconditional love.

Other reviewers have said everything else I'd like to say perfectly. I agree that the low reviews are a result of not completing the book.

I highly recommend this. I wish I could find the author so I can beg them to keep writing.

Qingluan is totally my most favorite character in this book She's smart, kind, respectful, and most importantly she's badass. I love her. She's the girl I will never be able to become.

To be honest I really like the side characters in this story and wanted to see more of them. <<less

Quick synopsis: Song Qingshi has transmigrated to save a novel's protagonist shou. Yue Wuhuan has been deceived and toyed with by other men, and is close to giving up on humanity. Witnessing Yue Wuhuan's terrible circumstances, Song Qingshi saves him. What he doesn't realize is that he has chosen the wrong answer, and that he has chosen this wrong answer across many lifetimes...

This is definitely not your typical villain-saving story, and I really appreciate it! Things I liked:

Plot: The plot is deceptively simple in the beginning, but reveals a lot... more>> of complexity as the story progresses. I love the attention to detail with the recurring themes, plot direction, and imagery. By the end of the novel, we understand how necessary every arc was and how far our characters have come.

Tropes: One terrible but popular trope in villain-saving Xianxia/transmigration stories is non-consensual s*x between the MC and ML. I so appreciate that this novel doesn't have that. And also unlike other novels, the MC doesn't vehemently deny his feelings for the ML. As a medicine fanatic, the MC understands that bodily desires are normal and shouldn't be shunned or stigmatized. The MC honestly does a great job with the healing process of the ML.

Characters: The MC is lovable and stoic at the same, with an overwhelming love for learning. The ML is dark but loving, steadfast, mysophobic, and yearning for purity. Both undergo a substantial amount of character development throughout the story, tied in with the plot's direction. Both also have extensive backgrounds that are only fully revealed toward the end of the novel.

I would love to reread this and better appreciate some of the foreshadowing earlier on. It's a long novel, but worth it! <<less

I'm surprised this novel was so underrated! It's was a great story and I dare say better than many of the currently very popular novels that got live adaptations (and those that are still WIP). This novel actually handle yandere type characters very well and is one of the most healthy of "toxic relationship" I have read. I mean it! The misunderstanding can be funny, but they do have communication and trust! This was so rare in many BL novels just for drama's sake that it was wholesome in this... more>> one (even with all its darker themes and elements). I also love enthusiastic shou who is ready to please their gong to the max, so this would have gotten a 100/10 if I could give it such rating. The only downside is that sometime the MC does have random Gary Stu moments and I get thrown off (with a bit of excitement, of course, cuz he does look cool and badass), but it doesn't take away completely from the story.

This is a recommendation! Go read it!!! <<less

This is one of the best BL novels I have ever read.

However, it is 90% thanks to the first half of this story, because it outshines the second half so much that it may as well have been its own book.

Let me explain.

In the first half of this story, the characterization is unreal. The author did such a superb job and writing the MC and ML to be super realistic that it literally felt like I could reach out and touch them. Their feelings, habits, self-doubts; everything was so convincing... more>> I cried true, genuine tears.

I have never, and I mean never, seen a book so accurately describe many of my IRL struggles and feelings towards myself.

Song Qingshi’s fears and social ineptitude.

Yu Wuhuan’s feelings towards his own body. In fact, especially Wuhuan’s feelings towards his own body.

Just thinking about reading the first half of this book makes me cry. I have never felt so seen. And I didn’t think I was even the type of person who could be seen.

.

Which is why the second half of the book, despite being good, is so overwhelmed by the brilliance of the first half that it seems extremely lackluster in comparison.

I remember exactly where it felt like things dropped substantially in quality.

It was the chapter where Song Qingshi finally acknowledged his feelings. I still remember reading the chapters that came after and thinking to myself that there seemed to be a very noticeable shift in the tone of the story. From that point on, the characters, world, and plot just... felt different. Shallower, even.

It seemed to me like the author either:

1. Was in a hurry

2. Hadn’t planned the rest of the story very well

3. Didn’t know how to fully write romance

4. Lost sight of the character’s a bit

The sudden shift in the essence of the story really stuck out to me. It wasn’t as detailed or nuanced as before, like the author was writing without as much effort.

The characters are the best part of this book, and when the second half stopped focusing on them and instead really pushed the plot, it lost that little something that blew me completely away.

I still finished it, though. Even with my hands down least favorite trope *ever* thrown into the mix. And the ending, though a little abrupt, was still satisfying.

TL;DR

Even considering its flaws, Mistakenly Saving the Villain is one of the best xianxia BL novels out there. Read it. You won’t regret it. <<less

I think after I read Grandmaster of Demonic cultivation and SVSC and Heavens Officials Blessings my standards for historical or cultivational stories have set a standard and I read many other novels but they couldn't match that standard. I like a novel when it has good chemistry between the ML and MC (the passionate and romantic kinda relationship). This story although I can't compare with the above mentioned novels but it was great. I totally fell in love with this the amount if love between the leads, the trust and... more>> the struggle of the MC to be with ML and have an happy ending is really great. I read few comments who say that MC behaves like a child and socially awkward and all but just believe me there is a reason for everything as to why MC and ML or for that matter all the characters behave a certain way. One more thing I like about the author is that they made sure each and every character has some significance and they have a meaningful ending. I read many novels where cannon fodders mentioned are forgotten at some point of time but in this every character has an ending. I don't know why ppl didn't like MC's personality but I just fell in love with the character many other stories have gong dote on their shou but here MC dotes on ML so that he could forget his dark past and move on in life. He time and again expresses his love for him. MC is just loveable cutie. So my list will just go on.... I would just conclude by saying that- IF YOU HAVE RESERVED THIS NOVEL TO READ IT LATER DUE TO LESSER RATINGS AND NEGATIVE COMMENTS -THEN DON'T THINK FURTHER AND JUST READ IT NOW. (coz I did the same and I didn't read it earlier). <<less

I have so many things I want to talk about after just finishing this story, I had to come here and write something in hopes I'll make someone undecided read it as well.

Don't hesitate to start reading this novel; it's a piece of art! I had to MTL it but it was a very smooth read, I was actually pleasantly surprised!

About the novel, we have very dark subjects. In one way, this novel follows the psychological situation of the characters. Our ML is tortured so much that he just hopes... more>> he could die. His psychological shadows run so deep, and he shows many stages of going crazy. He doesn't just get better out of a sudden with the mighty power of love, nono, he goes through desperation, denial, anger, he tries to hide, then learns to accept his crazy thoughts, learns to trust and cherish, and then finds power to actually start healing. It's such a well made transition in my opinion. His healing journey keeps going even after the story is over by the way. Long story short, the author didn't just add mental issues into the story for the sake of drama, but instead this whole story is one about healing. Both main characters go though healing together.

Now I have to applaud our lovely MC who is righteous but would not bat an eye when it comes to killing or torturing scums! Especially those who wronged our ML! I absolutely respect Qingshi for his character and morals, I love his straightforwardness, stubbornness, faith, the way he treats people fairly, and his pampering of the ML. I'd say he's the real MVP in this novel!

Although I have so much more to say, I will stop here and give way to new readers to find the wonders of this novel by themselves. It really is worthy of your time.

Last but not least, I want to sing praises to the author for this lovely novel. I will definitely come back to it for a re-read in the future! <<less

In the beginning, I avoided this like a plague because of the trigger warning and some of the tags, mainly because I felt I couldn't handle it without having an emotional breakdown from all the angst, the dogbloodedness of the story, and every other things in between. In fact, even now that I have read it, I still couldn't read it without taking small breaks to finish the story, even when it was so beautifully crafted, because I couldn't take how painful some chapters were and I needed to restock... more>> on fluffy things to make me stop my crying.

I ended up with puffy and swollen eyes from crying so much when the system recalled our MC and in the final arc when everything began unfolding. It was beautiful, bittersweet and everything that I had expected and not expected. It went and exceeded what I originally thought it would be like.

MC is really comedic and he's such a cutie though sometimes, if you still don't know who he truly is or rather "what", you'd find his thoughts to be rather weird and maybe question, per se, why he seems to lack the common sense that typically humans have no matter how obtuse they may be. He is literally a pure, naive and lonely little cutie who decided to save the ML for many reasons. And god, did his reason not make me tear up when things got revealed near the end.

His character growth from someone who always seemed to be so aloof and indifferent and removed from the world as someone who practiced the Way of the Heartless, as well as how he slowly started to become more 'human' in that he gains understanding of emotions through caring for our broken ML is beyond beautiful, I swear. His thoughts, his ideas, even his devotion, they really are amazing in their own right. He truly is unyielding like a stone, yet also as gentle as the softest feather when it comes to our ML. He makes s*upid and questionable decisions which you'll probably be left wondering why he is like that and why he chose to do that move, but things get revealed and questions get answered by the end.

The resolution was amazing. The reveal of their identities, the reason for heaven's intolerance of the ML and even why the system is so garbled and confused, everything just melded together perfectly at the end.

The side characters were also fleshed out in their own way, even if they seem to be unnoticed and barely there sometimes because of how the MC's world just ends up revolving around ML and vice versa, they had their own stories and reasons for being and gosh, can I just say that even the OG protagonist made it in his own? Like gosh, he really showed after he come to realizations that he doesn't need any man to protect him anymore. He grew from that person who was broken and accepting of what he had been taught by that tr*sh and grew to be someone amazing later in the story.

The villains of the story really makes me sick. They are disgusting tr*sh, no, even worse than that because tr*sh has some uses instead. I would have loved it if they suffered even more. But well, it was also a good revenge for all their sins how things ended for them. I still wish the punishment lasted longer. Tsk. The real villains of the story though, I bet An Long is still giving them their punishment HAHAHA.

ML... ML is broken but not beyond repair, apparently our MC thinks. And he proves it so. ML has given up on himself and sees himself as dirty and disgusting because of his past and how many times he has been defiled and broken and he really only longs for death. He's truly a pitiful character and his mania, his pain, his suicidal tendencies and his obsessions, all these were heartbreaking to read, but at least he also had a happy ending (I wouldn't be able to finish this if I knew it would end badly). The amount of care MC had to give him was really a lot. But it all paid off in the end. He was yandere, really, but he drew a lot of boundaries to never hurt or 'dirty' the purity of our MC which, really made me laugh at one point because
Spoiler

MC found out about his desires and how he used drugs to repress himself, so he decided to learn about coitus and even went and read danmeis and dual cultivation texts, while making notes and researching so he can be prepared to do it when time comes. Gosh, MC was so proactive in that regard for the first time that ML was backed into a corner until he had no other way out but to accept the lessons that MC taught him and just do it. It was sad how he broke down afterwards because he realized MC has broken his path of cultivation and his nascent soul is breaking apart that he wanted MC to kill him. But gosh, I love how MC corrected him and taught him that mistakes can be made and corrected. And that he can do it. And he's willing to keep going on. He's really an amazing MC, and just calms down our ML

[collapse]

My favorite part of the story was the 'Unsolvable' part where ML
Spoiler

finally came to realize that he was never the wrong answer for MC. 1352 times, he was chosen again and again by MC in their lifetime in that world, and in the unsolvable puzzle in the bracelet, he got to see it hundreds of times before he forcibly destroyed the puzzle because MC would not have stopped regardless. This was the turning point of the story and this was also when the locks in ML's heart began to one by one fall off. From the get go, MC never chose wrongly, he chose ML because he wanted to, regardless of amnesia, regardless of his actual mission targer. Because he loved him, even when he didn't have a heart yet. He had already loved ML.

The ending was beautiful. Things got resolved, finally, and I was just so happy for them. I felt a bit sad for our MC because even he thought that ML would
Spoiler

choose to seal his memories of that world and even said that it would be the best in the end. I loved how he said he would cry from loneliness and when he was done, he would go and read 10000 writings hahaha, he never changes.

[collapse]

The extras were much needed and I wish there were more extras about them and the other characters. But we get what we get and it was enough. I love how in the end, their dynamics didn't really change and MC still acts the same and stone-headed stubborn when he gets lost in his research and ML ends up having to try and rectify that because he needs attention from his
Spoiler

dao companion! Yes, they finally became dao companions in their real bodies hehehe

I don't usually comment, but I must ask you to read the warnings before reading and not rate it if you didn't finish the novel. I do NOT encourage you to read it if you think you can not handle it. This novel by no means romanticize all the abuse the ML and other characters have been through.

I can't say much or I'll spoil it, but this novel is not simple and there is a huge plot twist, the truth about the system, about the transmigration, everything. It is truly... more>> worth reading if you have enough textual interpretation and maturity.

The MC is a lovable character and, yes, he's not the typical you'll see around other novels, I love his uniqueness (and so does the ML). They are a perfect match, and also MC is not totally oblivious to everything, but yes, I guess some of you never got to see it, since you're giving a bad rating before getting even to the middle of the novel.

I'm really glad I got to find this hidden gem. It is not only my favorite now, but also I'm reading it for the second time and crying/sobbing/smiling just as much now that I can get all the easter eggs the author left every corner......

I'm not usually this kinda person, but I don't mind it if you still disliked after you did read everything, after all, we all have our own taste. If you didn't read everything and is complaining about this and that without even knowing what this is all about, know that I'm rolling my eyes to you right now. srsly. <<less

Everyone has already written and explained the beauty of this novel and character and why you should read this novel, so this review is not about that but If you gonna read this novel, read it until the end to see the true beauty of this novel.

The summary really don't do justice. This is a beautiful healing novel but before the healing you have to go and suffer pain and heartbreaking moments...... like how I suffer..... from 2nd lead

THIS REVIEW IS ACTUALLY JUST MY RANT, SUFFERING AND LOVE FOR 2ND LEAD, AN LONG.

An Long is the character that impacted me the most...... This is the 1st time I suffered from 2nd lead syndrome in danmei ever....... that too in this big impact that I cried for him more than for ML Sufferings. The 2nd lead syndrome for An long is not wishing MC to choose him (ok, it was little bit for that before) but more for why the f*ck it happened to him and how he had to suffer this and how everyone hating him even though he and ML are quite similar in chara (both yandere) and all. Like I get that ML suffered a lot.... both physically and Mentally but in An Long case it's Heart Suffering which is more effective on me (also my weakness) to the point I had to take a day or two break to get over it. (last time this happened was while reading Little Mushroom)

Spoiler

like just think from his point. He end up falling for MC as MC saved him. He tried his best to be worthy of MC love (became someone of MC level and not become burdem to MC when in trouble) and tried his best to win MC love (though some of you might not agree because of his dominating character but It's ok. I can see his effort).

But then you (an long) find the person you love choose the way where he can't have feeling anyone else or it would hurt him. You can't get his love but you also can't stop your love for him which get greedy day by day. You tried your best to just stay by his side (unrequited love for 800 or more years) but also tried your best to get his love but then you end up killing the person you love unconsciously because of the demon blood that you can't control (and also because you was fated to kill him)....... That's really heartbreaking 😭

But then you find the one you love alive again and you promise yourself to never make same mistakes (loosing control and killing him) again only to see him in love with someone else...... that too a person he met for just met few months ago...... (that's big impact) plus, you find that you are destined to kill the person you love and you can't control it..... plus that person is also ready to kill you to save his lover....... I just can't take it. He's so f*cking miserably........😭😭😭

My heart bleed for him. He had to go through such dog blood Suffering..... why make him fall for MC..... only to suffer

And there's people hating An Long for having feeling for MC and trying to c*ck block their romance and picking fight with ML.......... Why? just because he was not ML?

[collapse]

As much as I wish An long to not have fallen for MC, I actually really cherish his feeling he had for MC. I am thankful that the one An Long fell for was MC 😭.
Spoiler

The battle between An Long and MC is truly most heartbreaking moment for me

"An long finally understood that death was the best thing he owned.

He Smiled and lowered his head, embracing the blood-covered young man into his arms. He traded having every inch of his body getting burned for this momentarily clarity. He gently branded a kiss on his forehead; his lips burned inch by inch until its original appearance could hardly be seen. All for this final farewell.

The most painful embrace and the most painful kiss in the world, but he was perfectly willing." ~ STOOOPPPPPPP 😭😭😭😭😭 My heart can hardly take it anymore.

[collapse]

OVER WITH AN LONG,

This novel is really one of the best and satisfying as it really explain everything why it happened for what reason. I love how author planned everything and carefully putted, filling the plot holes and building the world and story in such a way which make this novel seem quite perfect.

Also it has one of the most beautiful and sweet romance. MC and ML are both made for each other and truly deserve each other. Especially the effort MC put in their relationship is worth admiring. Kinda reminded me of Hua Cheng.

Overall this is a good novel that is worth giving a read. Trust me, this one ain't got that high ratting just for the sake and so. It truly deserve it.

It Also has a happy Ending for everyone. I would have love to see more extra about other character or couples ~

Spoiler

I see some people not satisfied with the way it ended for An Long but I love how An Long end up with no one. As much as I love to see An long being happy, I really cherish his feeling he had for MC so say it my selfishness or whatever, I don't want an long to fall for someone else. Let his First and the last love be MC. Though it bit sad sad that he choose to erase his memory but well, it's for better (no more heartbreak from seeing dog food), well, I'll be here cherishing the memory of the prideful dragon who says love is useless and he won't fall in love like his friend..., once use to love and cherish the same sweet-dumb-pure guy (his friend love), trying to get his attention and by acting like fool, injured and weak, and causing trouble just so that person could give him a glance and scold him. And his final embrace and kiss on forehead toward that person which is so sweet yet so painful and heartbreaking....... It's f*cking inreplaceable. It was indeed a HE for An Long..... to be single without memory. Plus who says being Single is not Happiness.
